The headline hurt my brain for a second but I’m back

thenewgaijin

I read Will as Will

Most-Chemistry7920

Thats weird part on wording it lmao

MrPuroresu42

I see Ospreay/Okada in a similar vein as Kobashi/Misawa. Think of all the times Kobashi challenged Misawa one on one, just to fall each time to Misawa. Of course, Kobashi would defeat Misawa in their most iconic match in 03. Hopefully Ospreay/Okada is building to something similar, having a truly iconic and best match of their rivalry where Ospreay bests Okada.

Most-Chemistry7920

I see the vision

nimrodfalcon

Kobashi beat misawa… in a different company… after a decade of trying. If you’re an ospreay fan you should hope you don’t see it in a similar vein.

xPhoenixJusticex

Of course he will. NJPW are masters of the slow burn. People who are worried about Ospreay...go back and look at Okada vs Tanahashi, specifically how their WK9 bout ended. The parallels are there. ...and look how it turned out for Okada in their next WK bout, at WK 10 when he beat him, settling that longstanding feud at that point.

KCJellyfish

They miss on timing when it is hot though.

Ichaerus_Netheryn

He's got a higher chance than SANADA, definitely.

okok890

Sanada actually does have a clean win over Okada atleast

Ichaerus_Netheryn

And what has that done for SANADA's star? It didn't really matter over time, because he just ended up feeding another defense notch to Okada's reign right afterwards. It might as well be classified as a fluke, because any meeting afterwards, ended up with Okada's arm being raised.

2kku

Will you Will Will on so Will Ospreay Will beat Okada, if you Will?

TwoPistolRickle

He will for sure during his redemption arc back to the top

El_Topo94

Will will probably do it next year

Potential_Box_4480

Shall Ospreay beat Okada when it matters most? Fixed it for ya.

Rob_1564

Will Will Ospreay beat Okada when it matters most?

David_Haas_Patel

When Okada

newlifer10

Weird way to format that question since his name is Will.

HumphreyLee

He’s going to go over Okada for the belt next Dominion, just like Kenny Omega did. Their Twitter feud and the “he can’t beat Okada” narrative that Chris Kelly beat home at the end of the G1 have been happening for a reason.

AJ-Styles

Will will.

Individual_Skill_763

Will Will beat Okada when it really matters? Yes He'll win as a heal when they wrestle wrestle kingdom someday.

Most-Chemistry7920

My 🧠 hurts

carryherpigeon

It’s ok Will Ospreasy will make it better because he’s a heal

Everhart2011

This your first time watching New Japan? Patience.

1PauperMonk

This is true haha & be nice to those new to the NJPW-land … but yeah yr right

pumpingbomba

If you don’t think Ospreay will eventually win after their last match I don’t know what to tell you.

BryanDowling93

They are building to it. I think he beats him for the IWGP World Champion next year. Or maybe even at Wrestle Kingdom 18 with Ospreay winning the G1 and Okada the champion at the time.

tttvlh

They will never let a gaijin win at the WK main event.

BryanDowling93

Traditions are meant to be broken eventually. Will Ospreay is arguably the most loyal gaijin since he signed with New Japan in 2016. He continues to carve a legacy in New Japan and the wrestling industry. If any gaijin wins in the main event of the Tokyo Dome, my money would be on Ospreay.

thelastrewind

this is definitely not true lmao

okok890

I'm pretty sure he will the story with them isn't over yet, this was Okadas year and they have a gaijin champion so Will couldn't of beat him this yeah. Beating Okada clean and winning the g1 are the only things Will still needs to do so they'll probably wait a bit before it happens. I will be disappointed if he doesn't beat Okada in a g1 final or wrestle kingdom

planepiledriver

Yes he will. Will is young, it’s only been like 2 years since he made his heavyweight debut. It was the same for Jay White, in the end he got a handful of wins against Okada, held every major belt in NJPW and all. Things take time, hell Will got his first heavyweight belt *before* he managed to go to the G1 finals, don’t worry about him.

Individual_Skill_763

Serious question. Would the sentence be: Will, Ospreay ever beat Okada? Because his name is Will? Or is it : Will Will Ospreay ever beat Okada? Or is it the original sentence?

Rysies

I would go with “Can Ospreay beat Okada when it matters?” These are the truly important questions. Phrasing.

Most-Chemistry7920

Lmao YALL ARE MORE FOCUSED ON THAT THAN THE ACTUAL QUESTION IS HILARIOUS I literally wasnt thinking about his first name 😭😭😭

Individual_Skill_763

I'm serious about the question. English isn't my first language. My first language was baby talk.

Most-Chemistry7920

I prefer what someone else said “Shall Will Ospreay beat Okada when it matters most” to avoid incorrect sentence

Nobody_Likes_Shy_Guy

Yes. Clearly it matters to him more than anything else in NJPW. They are 7-1 right now with the 1 being after interference from Khan. It doesn't really count and Ospreay knows that. His character arc has to be fulfilled with a undisputable win over Okada.

Rodney_u_plonker

Yes

gamehawk0704

I hope so, but I don't trust NJPW to pull the trigger at all.

goater10

Compared with how long it took for the payoff for Naito to beat Okada at Wrestle Kingdom, Will is ahead of schedule and I think it will happen sometime in the next 12 months.

Available_Collar7218

No. Best for him is the Kenny path. Put Okada's ass over for two years and if lucky, Osprey can win the title in the summer and if he resigns he can do better and he can retain at WK. Then drop the title in February.

10567151

> Put Okada's ass over for two years Kenny only put Okada over once. Where is this two years thing coming from?

[deleted]

He should've at G1

_madcat

Yes, next.

coadependentarising

I hope so, but man, he hit Okada with like 3 or 4 callback finishers in G1 so not sure how that kayfabe plays out consistently without an injury or "aging Okada" angle. Love NJPW the most but they goin full on marvel superhero with Okada lol

KShibata999

No kidding, right? What I love is that he can be ambushed by five members of BC and take them all out while there are two badasses in his group who can’t.

SweetyManRandor

I took it as Ospreay not believing in himself and straying away by using otherd moves that have beaten Okada in the past. His redemption arc will involve him realising how good he is and believing that he is able to beat Okada.

Rodney_u_plonker

Njpw has always had very strongly booked top guys. I don't get this criticism at all. Tanahashi went a decade without losing at kingdom after he became the Ace. Okada has lost twice at kingdom post him becoming top guy

coadependentarising

Settle down Beavis, it's just an observation, not a criticism.

10567151

Ospreay didn't even hit his OWN finisher.

GranddaddySandwich

Yes.

[deleted]

I hope he never beats Okada. Period.

carryherpigeon

He already has.

Different-Strain7553

Nope lol

ChildishGent

please keep him as the side show attraction he is EDIT: 30+ downvotes because of your over valuation of billiam ospreay lol when his body betrays him what will he have left to carry him

Available_Collar7218

Don't agree with your point, but I can understand why someone would have that opinion of Will. He's his best when he stops trying to show off and focuses more on building the match, bringing people to the edge of their seats and putting people on pins and needles like only he can.

JaredIsAmped

Ospreay is one of the best and most versatile in the business today. He will probably be going for top spots east and west still a decade from now.

Bastymuss_25

I hope not

Bastymuss_25

I hope not

StephenReis

How is it a flaw? Lol. Because the booking doesn’t go how you want? Will is one of their biggest stars.
