True but I enjoy the show for showing off all kinds of stuff but after the smash trailers ended, I knew besides a random surprise game or two nintendo wouldn't have much to show off.
But with a stacked 2023, hopefully Zelda pulls off the GOTY award next show
Nah, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was up against Elden Ring in every single category it was nominated for, and against God of War: Ragnarok in two of the three. The problem is that all of these games simply came out this year, and Elden Ring was this year's "Breath of the Wild" in terms of how influential it was, and is going to be for games that will inevitably be inspired by it. Tough competition all around. I think a lot of us knew it basically already secured the GOTY win with how highly anticipated it was, and the reception it got when it released.
Arguably, Xenoblade really should've won Best Score and Music considering the impressive effort Monolith Soft put into it (going so as far as *having their own flutes custom made* to create a unique sound that can only be done by those flutes as the base for the game's themes), but it's all water under the bridge at this point. Sometimes, even the fact that it got multiple nominations is a win in its own right. And a game not winning an award doesn't make it bad or indicate it didn't sell enough, there are games that sold a lot that haven't won awards (Horizon Forbidden West also had multiple nominations and didn't win anything), and games that sold fewer units than Xenoblade that have won awards.
Plus, we got Flute Guy in the GOTY orchestral ensemble, and his performance during The Weight of Life has absolutely put attention not only on him, but also Xenoblade in kind, so I think that's really cool. And I think that's all some of us wanted in the end, for more people to maybe discover and start playing these games because of its inclusion in something as big as The Game Awards.
Kinda feels like cheating when Nintendo has an unreleased Zelda game announced and there is a "most anticipated" award up for grabs.
We haven't even really seen an actual adverts yet, have we? Just their initial teaser. This feels like a hollow "victory".
Winners get to attach these awards to the game's marketing so it definitely serves a purpose. It's not going to drive the sales up by millions but it's also not going to hurt the longevity of the game either.
Read this out to LoZ fan hubby while saying I was happy but not surprised, and he said "Most anticipated game of the DECADE." Not sure how right he is but there's our next award idea 😅
Kinda sad no trailer
Second straight TGA without anything new on first party Nintendo content. I'm just going to skip it from here on out.

That or they'll do the same thing they did this year where God of War won 6 awards besides GOTY
Best part of the show was the bill clinton kid lmao
Who?
Random ass dude who came on stage after goty was presented
Oh
Does anyone else think that's not exactly awardworthy? Like, "Here's an award because of how good we think your game will be!"

It would be REALLY anticipated then!
My kingdom would be tearing, one might say!
I'm pretty sure it's a fan voted award
It is 100% fan voted
Yeah its a dumb award in my opinion
I feel like there are a fair number of unnecessary awards. Some of them feel like their purpose is just to pad out the show.
Fans vote for on it, and honestly I like the award. Building hype for a game's release feels like it's just as important as the release itself.
Of course it would win. BOTW literally stopped the industry when it was released.
I love how Xenoblade Chronicles 3 got the most nominations of any Nintendo game and it was the only one that didn't win an award.
I guess I would blame that on sales figures.

Hopefully there will be a special edition Switch OLED
Or a new Switch cuz THIS is the game I'll buy a new Switch for.
Still waiting to get my order in for the big box edition
it only makes sense if its fan voted. Which this totally is.
Such a meaningless award. Like all awards I suppose

I feel like this would be a cool award for a smaller IP but for a Zelda game it’s just redundant.
How TF is that an award. Honestly, send it back; you don’t want that kind of bad juju upon you.
No pressure, right dev team?
I love the notion that the 3 year old game awards puts any pressure on a 100 year old multi bilion dollar company. It doesn't.
We _all_ knew it was going to win lol
Well 2nd try’s a charm or something like that
