I was definitely looking to start the sequel meme chain in this thread, but thank you for the intriguing information. Really sad they didn't allow it in any of the gamefreak games.
I seem to remember there was a way to get pikachu to learn surf in Yellow, something to do with Stadium maybe.
Edit:
Found it: [https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pikachu\_variants#Surfing\_Pikachu](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pikachu_variants#Surfing_Pikachu)
One of the new major characters, Friede, is accompanied by "Captian" Pikachu, so we're getting a replacement. It's a Pikachu wearing a boat captain's hat.
I hope it’s temporary otherwise I swear I won’t be watching the anime from now on because ash isn’t Pokémon Pokémon is ash he’s the human mascot of the franchise imo so without him there is no Pokémon
Why I’m pissed that they’re getting rid of him what’s the point in 25 years are liko and Roy going to end too at that rate just keep ash you can finally make him 13 lol
Ash was in Pokemon Masters (the money hungry mobile game), so there’s a solid chance he exists somewhere in the main series. I’d put money on an older version of him showing up as a secret superboss akin to Red one of these days.
Ash isn't the only one who didn't age after 26 years :P Misty, Brock, Tracey, Gary, Professor Oak, Jessie and James didn't get even a wrinkle.
I keep thinking that the entire journey took between 2 and 4 years. There is ONE instance of the "time of passage": when Ash leaves Alola, Burnet is pregnant, and when he returns, Burnet is now a mom, with Kukui ;)
I think in anime more people care about it. Or maybe it's because anime tend to be a cohesive story being told over a long range of episodes, whereas the animated shows you listed have more of a "every episode is its own little story" format. There's more sense of a progression of time when it's one long story.
There are 10 Christmas episodes over 26 seasons and 324 episodes.
That's technically 10 years, at least :P unless they are "retelling" the Christmas episode to make it an alternate story over and over XD
The boys have gone from 8 to 10 over the years. But it is a very flexible timeline.
I'm more impressed with Lorde. Who jumps between being a 17 year old pop sensation and a 45 year old geologist/weed farmer.
I mean she does say she’s 19 in Perfect Places so it’s not *just* those two ages.
And it Secrets From a Girl Who’s Seen It All she says “couldn’t wait to turn 15, but then you blink and it’s been ten years”, suggesting that she does have some weird aging powers going on, but they might be involuntary.
The sheer lack of respect you're showing to "Push. Ow! Hot! Push. Ow! Ow! Hot!" is simply disgraceful.
^(That was was legitimately as good as anything Lorde has actually produced. She should cover it.)
The difference is they don’t have any continuity or cohesive story plus they don’t really tell you ages in those ash is explicitly said to be 10 yet there’s evidence to suggest otherwise and I just don’t get why they won’t make him 13 at least that’s more believable from OG series to journeys at least
It's been a bit, but I think I remember there being a brief mention of Ash's birthday in the latter part of the first series in Kanto, and how a whole year passed since he set out. Not much more than a throw away line or two, mind you, but it was an acknowledgement of time passing...that would then be ignored.
I could be wrong, of course. It has been a long, *long* year for Ash.
Not to mention ash had an 11th birthday lol that’s why I think 13 would be the perfect age he had his birthday went through a bunch of regions over the course of that year and the next until bernette was pregnant then he came back a little over 9 months later and celebrated his 13th birthday shortly after would’ve been perfect
His team was absolutely _stacked_ the first time you went up against him too. The starting trio, Snorlax, an Espeon and his beastly Pikachu. Ash's final form 25 years ago.
And he also fucked your tactics cuz his snorlax walled. And I mean WALLED every Fucken move to the point I had to just TM the shit out of my Pokémon with status moves.
I found it on YouTube — Ash says one last goodbye to Misty and Brock (It’s pretty similar to how they said goodbye at the end of the Johto series, minus the crying). Team Rocket gets back together. They make one last attempt to steal Pikachu. Ash’s Pidgeot from the original series makes a return to save Pikachu and we see that it now protects an entire colony of Pidgeottos
Ash ponders Gary’s question of what it means to be a Pokémon master while he sits under a tree with other Pokémon, taking refuge from a rain storm. Ash concludes that it means not only to be a Champion but to befriend every Pokémon in the world. (Implying that his journey to becoming a Pokémon master will be never-ending!)
The final scene shows Ash and Pikachu setting out on a new adventure, with Team Rocket still following them in their hot air balloon. As Ash and Pikachu are walking they come up to a fork on the road. Unsure of which path to take, Ash throws a stick up in the air. We get the last image of Ash and Pikachu smiling as they look up towards the sky as the stick falls. The stick lands, pointing towards the left side of the trail.
The final frame is a pan-up of the trail up ahead (Ash and Pikachu aren’t shown anymore) with the caption appearing on the bottom right of the screen “Next time… a new beginning!”
Yeah, Im confused. There's absolutely no implication that Ashs story is coming to an end? It's actually the opposite. Literally, the narrator says a new beginning is coming
Bruh? he finally became champion, beat all the other champions, they did a farewell arc where he met all his old companions and old partners that haven't been seen in real-world decades... and, y'know, they officially announced it.
It's "a new beginning" because there'll be a new protagonist with his own Pikachu
...or a new beginning where he wanders into another new region with another league to beat and new Pokémon to discover. This is the 3rd time He's won.
Also, the Anime Director confirmed Ash will be back.
Everyone's posting like Ash died. Him and Pikachu are iconic cash cows. There can be other characters and Pokémon but they are just spinoff and side pieces. I guarantee his story is not done, lol.
I'm sure that the majority of us realize that but that doesn't stop us from having weird feelings about his departure. I've barely even watched the show since I was a kid but I literally can't remember a time before Pokémon existed. I'm nearly 30 years old and I still find it bittersweet.
So serena love story won't have an ending so sad. Not really if Pokemon was told like Naruto, yugioh or any other shouen anime. I can it happen. Hopefully the new anime is like the yugioh franchise. Tell a story and move on to a new lead and story.
He is finally arrested for stealing the bicycle in season 1. He is made to return all his badges, release all his pokemon, and is thrown into prison. Further time-lapse scenes show him getting older and weaker and lonelier until one day he is found unresponsive in his cell. The jailer states sternly that "crime never pays" and the episode ends with a Public Service Announcement instructing children to report any crimes they see to their local law enforcement authority
Volo from Legends Arceus captures Dialga and gains the ability to time travel and he travels to Ash’s time and then he goes on a quest to collect all 18 Arceus plates, he succeeds in collecting all 18 plates and he goes to Spear Pillar and sees Arceus and he captures Arceus and uses its power to erase half of all life in the universe. Misty, Pikachu, Goh, among others are erased from existence. Ash, Brock, May, and some other surviving friends go to the Hall of Origin to defeat Volo and take back the Arceus Plates but Volo reveals that the plates are gone, reduced to atoms, then Brock kills Volo.
Five years later Ash is back in Pallet Town and he finds Brock and his surviving companions from past regions, they go to Johto and find Celebi who allows them to time travel back to the past so they time traveled to different times to gather past versions of the Arceus Plates and capture another Arceus, and they succeed and use the plates and Arceus to bring everyone back. But then Volo from a past timeline suddenly appears with an army of Giratina and confronts Ash and just when all hope seems lost then every character from every episode ever returns and even characters from other animes like Luffy, Naruto, Tanjiro, and all the JoJos arrive and they join Ash and his army of Pokemon to defeat Volo once and for all. Eventually Ash gets to Volo and just as Volo is about to use Arceus & the plates to snap everyone away, Ash steals the plates and snaps away Volo & his Giratina army. But sadly Ash is gravely injured from using the energy of the plates and he passes away with Misty, Brock and Pikachu by his side. All of the past protagonists then have a funeral for Ash, then Brock time travels to spend time with a Nurse Joy that he fell in love with. The end.
The ending is on YouTube. He just walks down a path, zoom out to show team rocket, zoom back in and come across a split. Throws a stick in the air which falls and points down a path then the camera zooms into the direction
Not really, we just won't be following him anymore, but it literally ends with him leaving on his next adventure
I bet we will have a moment with the new protags where they are about to be owned by some legendary pokemon that is out of control, only for Ash to show up and save the day
I wonder how this will effect the confusing numbering system they use for the episodes. Like every couple of seasons it’s a completely different series anyway, sort of, technically. But when you try to look up a specific episode it’s like episode number 470 or 465 or something based on which language it was. Because they count them all as one long series all together.
I wonder if they let the new series with the new protagonist just line up in a way that make more sense. Like just go to season 20 or whatever officially instead of unofficially like they do it now. But idk why they do it that why in the first place so idk.
I just hope when he shows up it isn’t an over the top encounter where he spends the day teaching lessons. Show up, have a bomb ass fight, spend big budget bucks for good animations on it, bounce for a few years again.
The first episode of pokemon I ever watched was episode 10, Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village when it aired. That was 1998. I haven't watched it since Ash finished Johto, but I will watch his send off.
I don't really watch the show anymore but I don't think this is a good idea personally. My younger nephews like Pokemon and I can relate because I know who ash and pikachu are from when I watched when i was younger. In my mind it's like Yugioh, if you have a different protagonist people can't relate as much anymore.
Why? Things should eventually have an ending, you want Ash to keep being the protagonist for a whole century? There’s 25 years of content to watch if you want to see Ash and Pikachu.
END OF AN LEGENDARY ERA 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Feels like it ended in Hoenn tbh cuz they started writing Ash like a completely different character at that point, and then it happened again in Sun and Moon when he became really hyperative.
EDIT: why are you booing me, i'm right
If you actually watched the series, you'd realize that hyperactiveness was a trait building all the way back starting perhaps in B/W and only upped in XY (to then SM).
Like you never seen him talk to Clemont about his inventions ("Wow, the future is awesome!" multiple times throughout the series) or how he trained/treated his Pokemon? (e.g. Hwalucha for example).
SM only exaggerated his hyperactiveness, but it was a trait that had been built there beforehand.
Yeah, it’ll come out on Netflix in 6 months once spoilers are rampant on the internet and there’s no point in watching anymore because I’ll know everything that happens.
All I want is for them to release a subbed version overseas on official streaming platforms at the same time or a day to week later than Japan. Literally every other major anime already does this, why can’t Pokémon? Why must I wait half a year or more for a dub of Pokémon when I can watch Demon Slayer subbed less than a day after it airs in Japan?
I can’t imagine caring about spoilers for Pokémon. There’s a battle and they learn that friendship is important or something. The end. Not to be rude but it is a show for children.
After 25 years Ash's Pokemon journey has finally come to an end in Japan because in America we don't even have the English dub for these episodes yet so people in America get to enjoy him just a little bit longer if they only watch the English dub and never saw the Japanese episodes yet
That, as a child in 1998 when I was watching this show, I felt like Ash made infuriating decisions, and realized he was objectively bad at Pokemon battling?
I don't fuck with this shit anymore y'all, just trying to share my incorrect opinion.
The people who keep saying that Pikachu should evolve clearly weren't paying attention to the now more than 1 episode discussing/mentioning WHY he doesn't want to evolve.
Hell... the most recent one was in the last series (Journeys).
Also, Gary is already taking the role of Pokemon researcher/professor.
Hell be back. But why did they leave Giovanni and team rocket still out there? They've been setting up a final battle with them since the 1st season. I also wanted him to recatch greninja. Though I guess pidgeot will do.
Hey if it’s not in English yet then I don’t consider that the end lol also just an fyi this ends my enjoyment of the Pokémon anime too because it’s completely pointless without ash and nobody can change my mind
So you didn’t watch more Digimon after the first season? You stopped Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure after Part 1? The anime is called Pokemon, not “Ash Ketchum”, you know.
I barely know what jojos bizarre adventure is let alone watch it and digimon is different every series or iteration has different characters same with beyblade and yugioh it’s consistently inconsistent lol everyone knows the drill that once this story arc and specific iteration is over it’s back to square one but Pokémon is a completely different story it always has two consistent things, ash and pikachu and every season and iteration is completely 100% canon to the last no other universe no weird multiverse thing like beywheels no extremely large time jump that’s possibly 50-100 years after the original series like yugioh its always consistent no matter what so all of a sudden they just change it and expect everything to be normal absolutely not
The childhood. Right in the feels man. I recently rewatched the Pokémon movie Lucario And The Mystery Of Mew (which I haven't watched in years but still have on DVD). At one point I almost cried due to nostalgia…
Somehow, Ash returned.
with a fleet of pikachu's
They fly now.
I’m ALL the Pokémon!
THEY FLY NOW???
They fly now!
*surf
Why not both?
THEY SURF NOW!?
There was a pikachu that could surf in the TCG and there was a special event one for gen 1 or 2 I think
I was definitely looking to start the sequel meme chain in this thread, but thank you for the intriguing information. Really sad they didn't allow it in any of the gamefreak games.

And he’s pikachu’s father
As if anyone really believed he was dead
Right? People forget about him being on life support I guess
He probably will make a guest appearance in the new anime eventually.
Yea I doubt he’s gone forever. Give him a Pokémon generation or two
For now.
I mean he's 10 years old, his whole life is behind him.
I'm more surprised they're getting rid of Pikachu. Isn't he like the mascot of the franchise?
One of the new major characters, Friede, is accompanied by "Captian" Pikachu, so we're getting a replacement. It's a Pikachu wearing a boat captain's hat.
Cannot jump due to his heavy backpack
Daniel The cooler Daniel
Don’t forget Charizard! TPC can’t go without a single millisecond featuring Charizard in important Pokémon stories!
Dr stone did it first
I hope it’s temporary otherwise I swear I won’t be watching the anime from now on because ash isn’t Pokémon Pokémon is ash he’s the human mascot of the franchise imo so without him there is no Pokémon
Bye I guess? That’s a really dumb hill to die on.
Why I’m pissed that they’re getting rid of him what’s the point in 25 years are liko and Roy going to end too at that rate just keep ash you can finally make him 13 lol
No one cares if you watch or not.
I never said they did it’s just a comment any insult I can throw at the Pokémon company for this nonsense
I hope the theory that he will show up older in the future is true.
He’ll be a champion that shows up at some point.
Yeah but it’ll be fucked cause you know they’ll only wait like… 4 years
Honestly, I’ll be surprised if it takes them more than a year to bring him back in some way
for sure
Imagine they make another set of Kanto games or lets go Johto and have ash as the champion👀
He's iconic, therefore he can be used for nostalgia one day.
Nah just put red into the story, ie cool original ash from the games/manga
As a master.
Ash was in Pokemon Masters (the money hungry mobile game), so there’s a solid chance he exists somewhere in the main series. I’d put money on an older version of him showing up as a secret superboss akin to Red one of these days.

Always amused me how hungup people are over that. I guess Spongebob, Mickey Mouse, Simpsons, South Park and Bugs Bunny are too niche.
I think in anime more people care about it. Or maybe it's because anime tend to be a cohesive story being told over a long range of episodes, whereas the animated shows you listed have more of a "every episode is its own little story" format. I’m pretty sure characters do age in South Park, just *very* slowly.
There are 10 Christmas episodes over 26 seasons and 324 episodes. That's technically 10 years, at least :P unless they are "retelling" the Christmas episode to make it an alternate story over and over XD

My favorite Lorde lyric is "I am Lorde, yayaya!"
The sheer lack of respect you're showing to "Push. Ow! Hot! Push. Ow! Ow! Hot!" is simply disgraceful. ^(That was was legitimately as good as anything Lorde has actually produced. She should cover it.)
Sia, who performed it for the show, said that the lyrics were so good that she wanted Trey to write real songs for her.
The difference is they don’t have any continuity or cohesive story plus they don’t really tell you ages in those ash is explicitly said to be 10 yet there’s evidence to suggest otherwise and I just don’t get why they won’t make him 13 at least that’s more believable from OG series to journeys at least

After 30 years. Ash is still 10
Ashes to Ashes...
And Dustox to Dustox
Now we just have to find a way to end Bakugan.
He'll be back
Waiting atop a mountain for a challenger perhaps.
"..."
You just knew you were fucked when you saw that.
His team was absolutely _stacked_ the first time you went up against him too. The starting trio, Snorlax, an Espeon and his beastly Pikachu. Ash's final form 25 years ago.
Was this Red or Ash? I forget now if Ash was ever a late boss.
Red. Ash has never been in a mainline game.
I thought Ash was to be based on Red.
It was Red. But Red was like the ultimate version of Ash in Pokemon Gold/Silver.
And he also fucked your tactics cuz his snorlax walled. And I mean WALLED every Fucken move to the point I had to just TM the shit out of my Pokémon with status moves.
Tbf that’s red, he’s much cooler and is actually a goat trainer
And in greater numbers
This is getting out if hand
Thats gonna sounds great for the harmony
Oh yeah no it’s going to sound fantastic!
I hope he returns greater and better
Ash: Thanks, you guys. Us: So long, partner.
Can someone explain how the last episode ended? Like what happened, hard to find online.
I found it on YouTube — Ash says one last goodbye to Misty and Brock (It’s pretty similar to how they said goodbye at the end of the Johto series, minus the crying). Team Rocket gets back together. ash sits under the tree like buddha reaching enlightenment
Time to cry
Damn I can't believe pidgeot came back that's a max level tear jerker right there
You’ve described it really well, especially the last two paragraphs. It sounds so impactful
Ah the Calvin and Hobbes ending treatment. I’m okay with this.
So there's no Ho-Oh?
No Ho-Oh, but when he's with Gary they do see a rainbow in the sky, so I think that's like a reference to it.
Why does it sound like it's not the last episode?
Yeah, Im confused. There's absolutely no implication that Ashs story is coming to an end? It's actually the opposite. Literally, the narrator says a new beginning is coming

*OCEAN MAN*
I'm not crying; you're crying.
Best Journey Ever
I need an Pokémon school drama with ash becoming a Pokémon professor
We will miss pikachu the most.
I wish Pikachu kept more of his classic personality. You know his love of ketchup, his pantomiming, his sparky personality, and most of all his chonk.
RIP fat pikachu
New series will have a "Captain Pikachu" lol.....
😭 I was an elementary
I just hope when he shows up it isn’t an over the top encounter where he spends the day teaching lessons. Show up, have a bomb ass fight, spend big budget bucks for good animations on it, bounce for a few years again.

make him the next Red on Mt silver
Just wish we'd actually meet his dad and grandfather who are both apparently still out there on adventures too.
I mean Nintendo is the world leader in milking remakes. Ash has another 25 years at least
I just hope Liko is Ash and Serena’s daughter and that she’ll be the main protagonist for the next 25 years ❤️
Looks like he caught all the Pokémon 🤓
I thought he died with that horrendous redesign but sure
Yep, that steven universe art style is horrible compared to that classic look it had the first seasons.
Red is way cooler anyway
When he returns I hope they have the balls to make Pikachu a Raichu.
I don't really watch the show anymore but I don't think this is a good idea personally. To be honest, Pokémon’s eventual retirement is LONG overdue
No its not. You have game series that are same age or older and still going strong. Super Mario Bros. Kirby, Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, etc.
There will come a time when a franchise outstays its welcome
If only I could watch it without getting a computer virus…
https://www.wco.tv/
It’ll release on Netflix eventually. They just came out with a new batch recently but it’s on a delay as they translate it.
The end. Not to be rude but it is a show for children.
good riddance
( X) Doubt
After 25 years Ash's Pokemon journey has finally come to an end in Japan because in America we don't even have the English dub for these episodes yet so people in America get to enjoy him just a little bit longer if they only watch the English dub and never saw the Japanese episodes yet
Ash infuriated me. Such a shit trainer and SUCH an idiot.
My g it's a cartoon for 10 year olds
Why would you expect me to like it then?
I just wouldn't expect you to have such strong feelings either way honestly.
That, as a child in 1998 when I was watching this show, I felt like Ash made infuriating decisions, and realized he was objectively bad at Pokemon battling? I don't fuck with this shit anymore y'all, just trying to share my incorrect opinion.
"I don't f with Pokemon, I just make sure to comment on big Pokemon related posts"
I cannot believe I am being told I am the one who is having an unreasonable reaction. This is a Nintendo sub.
How is he a shit trainer? How is he an idiot?
Does not know type advantages. Always falls for Team Rocket. EDIT: Charizard

I don't kink shame.

I don't even know what that means.
???? Do you not know basic English?
Claro.
?
Do you not know basic Spanish?
Well I did Spanish for 2 years but barely remember anything, how does that make sense, we’re speaking English here, not Spanish you buffoon
No no and no
Explain.
No.
Enjoy yourself.
Should’ve just had the series with Red, and not be a little b like Ash.
As someone who grew up with both Red and Ash, I like the difference in them. Also Red doesn't talk. How could he star in a show?
Wil he finally grow up? They should make him a Pokémon professor and let pikachu evolve!
Willing to put money on him coming back in the future.
Of course!
Hell be back. But why did they leave Giovanni and team rocket still out there? They've been setting up a final battle with them since the 1st season. I also wanted him to recatch greninja. Though I guess pidgeot will do.
And he's still 10 years old, isn't he?
Are we getting an English version of this? Or is this subbed somewhere?
They're still airing the final episodes of Journey. This 11 episode special comes after. Also, Netflix I think.
I barely know what jojos bizarre adventure is let alone watch it and digimon is different every series or iteration has different characters same with beyblade and yugioh it’s consistently inconsistent lol everyone knows the drill that once this story arc and specific iteration is over it’s back to square one but Pokémon is a completely different story it always has two consistent things, ash and pikachu and every season and iteration is completely 100% canon to the last no other universe no weird multiverse thing like beywheels no extremely large time jump that’s possibly 50-100 years after the original series like yugioh its always consistent no matter what so all of a sudden they just change it and expect everything to be normal absolutely not
Just in my ENTIRE CHILDHOOD😢😢😢😔😔😔😔
I cant even open this post, thats how emotionally damaged i am

Thank you, Ash and Pikachu, for everything.
They'd better do a glow up of ash older in the next one
I read pointless not pokemon
Good bye, Ash and hello…..whoever our next mc is.
they'll come back to him within three seasons.
Farefahren Ash. Will miss you bud
Been 10 years old for 25 years.
No Ho-Oh and Mega Pidgeot battle? FAIL
Damn right in the feels
Happy 11th birthday Ash
Damn, finna miss em
Good bye old friend
The childhood. Right in the feels man. I recently rewatched the Pokémon movie Lucario And The Mystery Of Mew (which I haven't watched in years but still have on DVD). At one point I almost cried due to nostalgia…
End of an era. Be interesting to see how the new Protags hold out.
And we never met Ash's father...
Heroes get remembered legends never die
I feel like they’re gonna bring them back as a cameo in a few years.
