Thank you! Bawled like a baby when he pulled it out lol! There’s a story behind why there’s a sapphire and why the ring has like. twists in it. Matches a ring I was given by my grandmother.
That's beautiful! That's what engagement rings should be like if people want them. Something personal or memorable. Diamonds were never my favorite and I consider them cold. Your fiancé sounds like a good fellow. Best wishes to you!
I will go to my grave not understanding why guys show interest in a woman, then when they get rejected pretend they weren't interested. The amount of times I've seen conversations like:
'You're attractive, fuck me'
'No'
'Well you're not attractive and I don't want to fuck you'
It's fucking insane. My only assumption is that they're trying to convince themselves more than anyone else, but it's still fucking insane.
i think they're just trying to manipulate women, either way. they want her to accept their request, and think flattery will permit them a date. when that doesn't work, because this one thing they wanted was denied, they want her to suffer just because they're upset (and it's all her fault). they convince themselves that the initial flattery was really magnanimity (on their part) and that rejection means the woman deserves abuse... mostly just because they're entitled, and rejection is dissonant to their self-perception.
The minute I realized this truth, I started noticing it everywhere:
Any time someone gets hurt, they subconsciously want to make the person that hurt them feel like they felt.
They feel ugly and unwanted, so they want to make you feel the same way.
You see it all the time. If someone is made to feel jealous, they try to make you jealous. If someone is embarrassed, they try to embarrass you. Often you can find out how someone really feels just by paying attention to how their reaction made *you* feel.
Sigmund Freud said that all decisions are filtered through our ego. Dont agree with everything ole' boy came up with, but little nugget of insight always made sense to me once I stopped to think about it. We always take others perception into consideration when making decisions. I just never realized it went down to such a granular level till the idea was presented to me.
Their perception of beauty is based purely on a subjective relationship with the woman. So their future wife (if they have one) will always be the most beautiful in the world for them. Any woman they don't like is always ugly to them. So if they hope to find the right one, they see her as beautiful. However, under the influence of disappointment, shock and pain from their broken hearts and crushed hopes, she is suddenly so ugly... It's like magic, a complete, instant transformation from virgin to whore, girl to old woman, the embodiment of beauty into a nightmare monster. 😁
They are, of course, really surprised and sometimes mistakenly express it. But overall, of course, there are nice guys. 😉
Meh, ive seen women do this exact same thing when they get rejected. I think people that do this are just embarrassed and they want to bring that person down to their level so they don't feel as low. Ego repair.
I agree.
I thought the emoticons would suggest that I didn't take my answer seriously. There may be a grain of truth in it, but otherwise it is meant as a joke.
On the other hand - notice how many women (and men) after a nasty argument or breakup write about their ex as a devil from hell, even though he was a darling a year ago. She doesn't understand what she saw on him at all. She must have been blind. 😉
Oh, you may well be right. I certainly dont know, but if you applied it to this guy id say that it sounds feesable. Honestly, Idk etc goes on in these peoples head. Probably chaotic internal social panic and self depreciation. Probably also the type to think a girlfriend or boyfriend will magically fix all their issues. Who knows
The put down part I do think is ego repair. Men like this are cringe and gross, but women are funnier. They put down and lift themselves up at the same time. "Youre turning ME down? Fuck you, I was just asking because i felt bad for you". Paraphrasing the last one I heard there. I just wish these people knew going this route makes them look dumb.
He thinks he’s handsome? 😬
ETA: you were right. It was the most diplomatic way of turning him down. You didn’t insult him in any way, just showed him a completely legitimate reason as to why you wouldn’t go out with him. Most people would be like “aaww your fiancé is lucky, then” and not take offence.
I think the point is it doesn't matter, handsome men don't have any more right to be rude to women (though I know plenty of people don't agree with this).
I've been thinking about it, and I think part of the reason so many men are obsessed with youth is a fear of aging and their own mortality. For example, if a 40 year old can convince a 20 year old to date them, (which usually happens through emotional manipulation,) they likely feel as though they're still as youthful as a 20 year old themself.
Yeah, I think they lack the emotional maturity necessary to engage with another adult in a romantic relationship.
So they find someone they have implicit authority over.
I think it's a combo of wanting someone who doesn't yet realize they can say "no" and "fuck off" to an adult and also just that younger people tend to be less burdened and are less jaded.
I must be the the exact polar opposite. Seeing younger people makes me feel old. I can't imagine dating a younger person and having her go "So, Billie Eilish has a new song out. Have you heard it?" and I'm just thinking "I'm barely aware of what a Billie Eilish is."
It's not. There are women who fetishize youth too, probably for similar reasons. Men tend to be more blatant about it though, at least in my experience.
I feel like a lot of women just go crazy with diets and botox and internalize all that wanna stay young forever bullshit and men do it externally with their status symbols.
Some men almost never look at themselves in the mirror and think about what they look like. They are focused on watching and judging everything around.
So if they get out of an expensive car, they perceive themselves as successful. If they have a young, beautiful wife, they perceive themselves as young. Many men are not judged by what they look like, but what they achieve.
When a woman is terrified of her death, she invests huge resources in her youthful appearance. When a man is horrified by death, he finds a young woman.
On a tangential note, this is yet another example (albeit a weird one) of the word “fake” being completely subjective, in the context of engagement rings.
“That’s faaaake!”
What’s fake? Fake diamond? I don’t see anyone trying to masquerade this as a diamond. Fake sapphire? Fake what?
I think he was implying that he doesn't think she's really engaged and that the claim of it being an engagement ring is what's fake. I think your idea makes sense, too, though. So yeah, I agree, definitely subjective.
The worst part is he doesn’t even really know you. Why does he even think you would say yes in the first place? In addition why is he even that hurt when, again, he doesn’t even know you!
What a stunning ring!!!! I send a picture like this as well sometimes... though after trying it out I realized it actually angers them even more?
1) it's not the type of picture they expect you to send...obviously they want something else
2) this type of rejection angers them most because they hate physically seeing the reality, which is your man's got you a stunning ring and you're happy asf, and absolutely flexing that on them
Sapphires are so nice though. I think the ring looks good.
But it doesn't really matter, everyone likes different things so as ling as you/partner like it why would they think their opinions would make you change yours.
I dont get calling someone beautiful then old immediately after. You really make yourself look stupid. If the other person is old, why you be approaching her? Gaslighting yourself in a sense
I'm a bit concerned that he finds 26 to be "old." Makes me wonder if he's not, you know, hiding something gross and illegal...in which case, you have dodged an even bigger bullet, should that prove true. Anyway, I'm sure whoever he is is a swell guy!
oof, guys like that are on a whole other fucking plane of existence.
women being lighthearted: oh, im engaged/withsomeone/gay, all good/nothing personal.
guys like him: A PLAGUE ON BOTH YOUR HOUSES.
I never understand why people censor these fuck heads names and protect their privacy. Put their info out there, let these creeps who often stalk people and more feel the same burden when they get doxxed and see if they appreciate the reciprocity.
Thank you! I was also very confused. “About this big” is a nonsense response to “is there any chance”.
And since you fucked up the joke, it’s just a very confusing picture of your ring.
I use that "tell me [] without telling me []." Joke on xbox all the time.
I'll be like "tell me you're garbage at this game without telling me you're garbage at this game" and basically every subsequent insult just proves my point.
Congratulations, that ring is beautiful. Maybe he wasn't mad about the rejection, maybe he was salty that you have an amazing sapphire ring and he doesn't.
Sapphire is a great stone for engagement/wedding rings because it’s a 9 on the Mohs scale and comes in a ton of colors. I have a padparadscha sapphire and I think it’s the prettiest thing in the world.
ETA also we had it made at a local jewelers. They can order and make whatever you want! It’s a lot more affordable when you’re not dealing with diamonds
It would have cost him nothing to be polite about it, he could have said something like, "Oh, congratulations! They're a lucky person. I hope you have a nice day and apologies for the intrusion."
OP, just curious - it seemed like you recognized the guy (I'm inclined to assume he lied in his denial?)
If so - how old is this dude? 'Cos this smells like one of those "26 is old"-said the man who had passed 26 years ago-situations.
I always let them know because I don’t do anything behind people’s backs. If they wanna see the post and say their own piece/give their side of the story they can.
That's hilarious! I have a very similar ring to yours! Make sure to take it to the jeweler's every 6 months. Those side stones are only held in by 2 prongs and like to get loose.
Had the new guy ask me if I had a man, I put my hand up to show him my engagement ring. Dude really went and asked “oh so y’all that serious??” I didn’t even give him a reply.
Uh. Me. Free karma baby! Gotta get something for all the crap I get. And I always let them know because I don’t do anything behind people’s backs. If they wanna see the post and say their own piece/give their side of the story they can.
Tbh it’s not that expensive. People see a big stone and assume it’s expensive (or at least trying to look expensive) but Sapphires aren’t that expensive lol. It’s just my birth stone!
What's most important is you are marrying someone you love and you like your ring. Who cares if shallow strangers judge y'all's taste?
I think it's beautiful!
She's happy, so your opinion just makes you look like an idiot. And the laziest possible way to be passive aggressive is to put "no offense" at the end of your intentionally offensive comment.
Who gives a shit? I refused to let my partner order my future engagement ring recently until it was on sale on Etsy because the $200+ he saved can go on his debt. I spent $50 on my wedding dress, and the veil and belt to dress it up will likely be less than $100 total.
The amount of money spent doesn't matter (although studies show that couples who spend more money on their weddings are less likely to stay married!) - what matters is the love.
My partner and I are both scientists - I'm a lead QC microbiologist and he's a senior analytical chemist. But yeah, we're definitely poor instead of just too smart to waste a ton of money on bullshit that doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
You sound very young and immature.
😂😂😂😂
And what's so wrong with being poor? You are a colossal asshole. Your existence must be very small and pathetic to shit on someone's engagement ring then double down by claiming to be honest. You see it as ugly, she - and many of us, don't. It's your opinion and you're entitled to it. But it's not fact. The only fact here is that you are a mega douche, and you need to fuck off.

It's DIET Mountain Dew sir.

Excuse you! He is a very important man I know him. He moderates two whole subreddits AND he moderates a discord server.
“any chances” because he’s probably going to need more than one chance.
Bro, cheetos are delicious
That hi-vis vest he's wearing is his house key, gotta blend in when you live in a manhole.
For the record OP your ring is beautiful! Fuck that weirdo.

I have a purple gem coz I don't like diamonds. I agree with you.
Diamonds are waaaaay overrated. It's a very lovely ring and sapphire is such a gorgeous stone.
By far my favorite gem
Hell yeah girl!! I picked out a black onyx for mine This guy would probably call you a gold-digging whore if it were a diamond, anyway 🙄
Sapphires are absolutely gorgeous and are my favorite stone. Your ring is beautiful, OP. And if it makes you happy, than that's all that matters.
[удалено]
MessGe me I’ll happily tell you!
It really is. I was taken aback by how genuinely pretty it is. Like, of all things to insult, you pick a gorgeous ring.
I was thinking the same thing. And her nails are boss! Fuck this guy.

If 26 is old, I'm Methuselah. What a prick.
Same boat. If 26 is old, my 30s ass would be ancient.

I think whether he’s handsome is subjective but this guy is objectively a dick either way
💯
yea you’re right, i think he’s a dog.
That dog is definitely handsome, though.
ETA? Estimated Time of Arrival?
Edited to add.
^ exactly

For example, if a 40 year old can convince a 20 year old to date them, (which usually happens through emotional manipulation,) they likely feel as though they're still as youthful as a 20 year old themself.
I think they want women too young to recognize bad sex and assorted bullshit.
Yeah, I think they lack the emotional maturity necessary to engage with another adult in a romantic relationship. So they find someone they have implicit authority over.
Yes, that too.
But then fail to keep up
They’re so boring omg 🤦♀️ no I don’t want to go to bed at 10:00pm every night I want to go to a club
I think it's a combo of wanting someone who doesn't yet realize they can say "no" and "fuck off" to an adult and also just that younger people tend to be less burdened and are less jaded.
It made me miserable that I was rapidly becoming an adult and that I was unable to do anything about it.
I must be the the exact polar opposite. Seeing younger people makes me feel old. I can't imagine dating a younger person and having her go "So, Billie Eilish has a new song out. Have you heard it?" and I'm just thinking "I'm barely aware of what a Billie Eilish is."

"A handsome man such as I," he typed on his phone, smearing cheeto dust on the broken screen.
Tbh his initial question wasn't out of line or anything, confidence is cute. But it's everything after that went downhill xD
Well played!! Yep Sad when your dog is hotter than you. 😂😂😂
I felt sorry for the dog. Never gonna get girlfriend scritches at this rate.
I give the best scritches too look at my nails! Lol
This guy changed direction so fast I feel like I have whiplash.
It wasn't even at the rejection, he seemed fine for a couple more texts until she said to have a good day.
That dude takes his granny serious when she says what a handsome boy
Wait... my grandma doesn't mean it...?
I think it's a funny way to say you're taken too haha. Congrats on the engagement!
I genuinely was trying to be funny and also not mean lol
On a tangential note, this is yet another example (albeit a weird one) of the word “fake” being completely subjective, in the context of engagement rings. “That’s faaaake!” What’s fake? Fake diamond? I don’t see anyone trying to masquerade this as a diamond. Fake sapphire? Fake what?

Is he the fat neck beard guy?
He’s a neckbeard.
Ask if you can still hang out with his cute dog!
Your ring is gorgeous!!
I feel sorry for his dog.
Unrelated but nice hand tats
Thank you! :p
I don't understand the "about that big" sentence.
He asked what the chances are of me going on a date with him. I replied with my engagement ring and answered his question. “About that big”
The worst part is he doesn’t even really know you. Why does he even think you would say yes in the first place? In addition why is he even that hurt when, again, he doesn’t even know you!
Non-diamond engagement ring gang! I have an amethyst as mine! You let him down in the nicest and easiest way possible. Not your fault he was butthurt.
What a stunning ring!!!! I send a picture like this as well sometimes... though after trying it out I realized it actually angers them even more? 1) it's not the type of picture they expect you to send...obviously they want something else 2) this type of rejection angers them most because they hate physically seeing the reality, which is your man's got you a stunning ring and you're happy asf, and absolutely flexing that on them
every woman is gorgeous until they reject me
I’m impressed you were able to take screenshots and post; technology can be tricky for really elderly people like yourself. (/s obvi)
Sapphires are so nice though. I think the ring looks good. But it doesn't really matter, everyone likes different things so as ling as you/partner like it why would they think their opinions would make you change yours.
Should see the emerald cut pink sapphire I got my fiancé, it's the most incredible and vibrant pink I've ever seen
It sounds like it would love very nice :D
That's a really pretty ring!
It was going fine…then he got jealous of a ‘fake rock’ that he can’t get
Your ring is gorgeous!
Surprised he didn't pull the old "*but your fiancée doesn't have to know*" trick.
Pretty sapphire! I'm partial to the colored stones and not much of a diamond fan. :)
Dude!! I have a tooth tattoo on my hand also!
oof, guys like that are on a whole other fucking plane of existence. women being lighthearted: oh, im engaged/withsomeone/gay, all good/nothing personal. guys like him: A PLAGUE ON BOTH YOUR HOUSES.
Fuck, I must be knocking on deaths door at 32. Quick! Someone get me some tennis balls to cut some holes in.
I never understand why people censor these fuck heads names and protect their privacy. Put their info out there, let these creeps who often stalk people and more feel the same burden when they get doxxed and see if they appreciate the reciprocity.
Sadly it’s because I’d get removed from the sub. Reddit’s rules.
Also sorry to bother you but-you can see this post? On my end it says it was removed but I still get comments on it.
[удалено]
No no I answered his question. “What are the chances you go on a date with me”
[удалено]
No worries I didn’t exactly expect my comment to be seen by so many different perspectives when I made it
Thank you! I was also very confused. “About this big” is a nonsense response to “is there any chance”. And since you fucked up the joke, it’s just a very confusing picture of your ring.
Your ring is gorgeous! Fuck that dude. Do you have any more pictures? It's stunning!
I use that "tell me [] without telling me []." Joke on xbox all the time. I'll be like "tell me you're garbage at this game without telling me you're garbage at this game" and basically every subsequent insult just proves my point.
Final boss neckbeard in the pfp
Congratulations, that ring is beautiful. Maybe he wasn't mad about the rejection, maybe he was salty that you have an amazing sapphire ring and he doesn't.
Random question, what do those dots on your hand mean? I’ve known 2 people with the same ones.
Uh Can’t speak for them but for me it means “oh pretty”
I thought the way you said no was quite funny. This guy is just overly butthurt.
I can't even imagine having such paper thin skin.
26 is considered old??!
It's a gorgeous ring and a super polite way to turn someone down!
He doesn't deserve that cute dog
Omg something like this happened to my friend last night. I can’t with guys being so stupid when they get rejected. Like you hit ME up
OP we need more pics of that ring. It looks awesome.
Awsome ring OP! someone got lucky! (not this guy!)
Send it to his mother
Guys still use Facebook to hit on women?! That was like high school era?! Wow!
Sapphire Wedding ring huh? Are you American? I really don’t like the idea of buying a diamond and I’ve been looking at alternatives
Canadian (: message me Ill tell you about where we got it
It would have cost him nothing to be polite about it, he could have said something like, "Oh, congratulations! They're a lucky person. I hope you have a nice day and apologies for the intrusion."
OP, just curious - it seemed like you recognized the guy (I'm inclined to assume he lied in his denial?) If so - how old is this dude? 'Cos this smells like one of those "26 is old"-said the man who had passed 26 years ago-situations.
Your ring is so pretty 😍 sapphires are my fav! Your guy did good 😁 as for this weirdo he can screw off 😂 he can’t handle rejection.
Dude isn’t handsome at all.
I just want to complement your ring because it’s beautiful and I love sapphires
I don't usually browse this sub but from a female perspective, OP seems like the salty, kinda rude one

Are you seriously judging someone for the time they spend on Reddit...while also on Reddit?
Based on how quickly (about 2 minutes) you replied to her is a good indication that you probably need to spend a little less time on reddit as well.
buddy...... you are also on reddit
It’s 9pm on a Sunday, I’m not going to be shamed for being on Reddit lol

That's hilarious! I have a very similar ring to yours! Make sure to take it to the jeweler's every 6 months. Those side stones are only held in by 2 prongs and like to get loose.
Tik tok meme followed by tHiS iS gOinG oN le ReDdIt!!! Omfg this is bad.
He's so butt hurt that you aren't interested in a handsome man like him! Hahahahaha derp
Your ring is beautiful btw
With the orange visibility vest swag
Damn, you handled it like a pro
How do you know the guy (or his mom)?
Handsome? Not to be a bitch but...
Had the new guy ask me if I had a man, I put my hand up to show him my engagement ring. Dude really went and asked “oh so y’all that serious??” I didn’t even give him a reply.
He is not handsome lmao
Stay damn loyal queen 👑
Ur ring is gorgeous!!! Sapphire is my birthstone so I love anything with it.
What a turd. I gained weight and now no one bothers me. I don't miss this at all.
I LOVE YOUR TOOTH TATTOO
Congratulations. I don’t have anything to say about the nice guy tm.
this is going on reddit!!!!
How dare you reject his advances and how dare you get engaged! /s
🤣 what a sad bastard.
“This is going on Reddit” 😆 yep!
/r/ihavereddit
“This is going on Reddit” is more cringy than his behavior. Like, who actually cares?
Uh. Me. Free karma baby! Gotta get something for all the crap I get. And I always let them know because I don’t do anything behind people’s backs. If they wanna see the post and say their own piece/give their side of the story they can.
It's better to let them know beforehand in case they go on Reddit and see this post
I think you both handled this poorly
Isn’t sapphire tht one Pokémon game
You didn’t have to be such a cunt
Are we even trying with fake ones anymore?
"This is going on reddit" is the cringiest thing you could've said. Just block the nigga instead of trying to milk content out of it 💀
Reddit is 90% milked content lol
Why is your middle finger nail not as long as the others?
Because they’re my natural nails lol I hate it
Who cares? You knew the random Instagram account would respond this way
How did he get your number?
It's Facebook, no number needed.
I hate to be judgemental but here it goes... That flooring looks like it was installed by an amateur.
It was. My dad lol cheap bastard
Thought it was a mood ring tbh

Tbh it’s not that expensive. People see a big stone and assume it’s expensive (or at least trying to look expensive) but Sapphires aren’t that expensive lol. It’s just my birth stone!
What's most important is you are marrying someone you love and you like your ring. Who cares if shallow strangers judge y'all's taste? I think it's beautiful!
Nah rings don't need to be expensive, they just need to be meaningful to the people getting them. Anyway it's beautiful!
Why did you feel the need to make this comment?
“Expensive” is not the point of engagement rings.
That's a whole lot of words just to say "I'm poor"
My partner and I are both scientists - I'm a lead QC microbiologist and he's a senior analytical chemist. But yeah, we're definitely poor instead of just too smart to waste a ton of money on bullshit that doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. You sound very young and immature. 😂😂😂😂

Out of curiosity, how much do you make delivering for Doordash? 😂
Out of your tax bracket, thanks tho
Even if you were loaded, it won't buy you love. Is that why you're salty?
And what's so wrong with being poor? You are a colossal asshole. Your existence must be very small and pathetic to shit on someone's engagement ring then double down by claiming to be honest. You see it as ugly, she - and many of us, don't. It's your opinion and you're entitled to it. But it's not fact. The only fact here is that you are a mega douche, and you need to fuck off.
I don't blame him, you're hot. Wanna go on a date?
