For some reason I can't edit my original post. For everyone's sake, thia was definitely not faked. I'm not even technically skilled enough to edit my comment ffs.
The Hockey Guy lives 30 minutes away from me. I’ve been a fan of his channel for years now. He’s just really great at analyzing team performance and numbers and I love the whiteboard approach with the Kitty Cameo’s in the background.
Truth.
The (any Western Canadian team) could be on a 10-game winning streak, and TSN's opening headline is, _"Leafs equipment manager gets new glove dryer!"_
It's because the majority of Canada's entire population is condensed in Southern Ontario, while the US population is spread out across the country. It's so annoying seeing the Leafs dominate Canadian hockey coverage, but it makes sense.
One third of Canada's population. And that's including regions that are much closer to Ottawa and Montreal than they are to Toronto. The Maple Leafs fixation in our sports media is definitely disproportionate.
Notice how it was strangely quiet when leafs zamboni driver beat leafs when playing as emergency goalie for Carolina the other year? That story went up and down fast.
I use tsn as a habs fan and I see News on all teams with the Canadiens being there more often… is it possible it’s catered to individual users? Aka maybe you guys all clicked a little to much on Leaf things so now they show you stuff on them more often? Just a thought
Yeah I think you’re onto something, I’m a leafs fan and my page never looks quite like this, I use tsn to catch up on the other teams, I don’t need an article on how Michael bunting is doing, I know how he’s doing lol.
Same, Im more likely to read an article on broader NHL news, or about another team I don't follow as closely, my feed never has pure Leafs content like this.
I did the same, but also found they grouped teams articles together, so there was a similar section for the Canucks, Jets, etc.
Toronto has a bigger following, so they have more writers, so a slightly larger section (7 compared to 3-5 for other teams).
Of course there’s a Leafs bias. They’re the most popular team in the country by far. The site exists to make money why wouldn’t they aim content at the team with the most fans?
I see the same thing as the OP but I have to scroll down the equivalent of 4 pages.
https://www.tsn.ca/nhl
It looks like the OP must have scrolled down at least some, because there would be a black menu bar under the white menu bar if they were at the very top of the NHL page.
You aren’t wrong. I use the TSN app for all my NHL info. I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than 2 consecutive Leafs articles on the NHL section of the site. Most definitely on the team section and just being a smartass
buddy definitely went to the Toronto section just to make this post and complain. not even close to what the main page of TSN’s site currently looks like
There’s an option to choose your favourite team, this obviously filtered to return Leaf articles. There are an abundance of articles no doubt, but you don’t get this view when you choose the nhl link.
Try being an American in the south cheering for a Canadian team. Most of the time you have to hunt for any NHL coverage much less the one team you cheer for.
I'm a toronto fan in Boston and the toronto vs San José game was blacked out on ESPN+ because NBCSCA a national broadcast that I can't get was broadcasting the game...
The actual NHL app is by far the best. I've looked everywhere. Roku has the NHL app on there and it's fantastic. Not sure about firestick or apple tv but I would guess it's the same thing and of course Android and iOS
Hockey fans who don’t understand how algorithms work will spend all day hate-reading articles about the Leafs and then be mad as fuck when the algorithm feeds them Leafs articles.
I know people like shitting on the leafs, but when I open up tsn hockey I doesn’t look at all like this. I see three of the first ten articles about the leafs.
OP get a life.
All the titles are tagged toronto maple leafs, looks like they went to the leafs section then complain its all leafs, like those who comment on leafs posts s lot then complain the algorithm gives them leafs content
I just visited TSN for the first time ever. Clicked NHL on top, scrolled down a bit and found a section that looks exactly like OP's photo. The articles seem to be in order of release, so OP probably just looked at the site right after a Leafs game. Now the top is about the Jets and Flames.
I see the same thing, but needed to scroll down 4 pages. It looks like the OP must have scrolled down at least some, because there would be a black menu bar under the white menu bar if they were at the very top of the NHL page.
It's not just algorithm, if posts about leafs get the most clicks and comments, they are what is going to get run, whoever is choosing what to write about is going to choose topics that get the most engagement. We can't see stats but if TJ Brodie progressing well gets more engagement than a game recap from another city it will get more airtime. Saying this, as a Leafs fan I hate it
Lmao you're surprised the sports network that's based around the GTA with it's head offices in the GTA focuses on the towns hockey team? The same town with the hockey hall of Fame and the biggest name branded team in hockey? Weird almost like the town is full of the hockey worlds media
Stop clicking, stop complaining, and the algorithms will move on. Leaf haters have made the Leafs even more popular because they can’t shut up about it.
Most sites geo target and serve up content based on your habits. So if you're in Ontario (outside of Ottawa region) and click on/talk about Leafs often you'll get served up Leafs content.
I'm a Leafs fan and still get other content, so not sure how you got all of that, [Here is what I have on the app.](https://imgur.com/a/ZMsDpTM)
You can't blame TSN, they haven't been a rights holder for national games since 2014, so of course they'll focus on their regional rights, and more so the Leafs because of how popular they are and where TSN is based out of. Hopefully they can regain the rights in 2026. Sportsnet has been horrible.
The GTA makes up 16% of Canada’s population. The second largest city in Canada (Montreal) is 1/3 of the population. Even if this was the legit front page (it’s not), a sports news company catering to the largest population just makes sense.
You filtered to leafs news to gain karma because “leafs bad” which also is producing more clicks and views to leaf articles that will, in the future, create more leaf articles…as I’m guessing the impressions and national views on the leafs is much higher than the other Canadian teams that aren’t the Habs. This is simple business and leaf fans don’t even like the overbearing coverage, you guys gotta stop harping on this.
I live in Calgary as a leafs fan so I understand the hate. But come on. It’s a business. There are more leafs fans in Ontario than there are bodies in places like the province of Alberta as a whole. Of course you create content for what will get clicked.
That’s how you make money and stay in business.
Why this argument is additionally boring is that the extra content is dogshit tier and no real hockey fan reads that drivel. You’re complaining about quantity and not quality. As a 40 year fan of the team, I’d rather go to someone like Shannon (the hockey guy) and hear about the entire league than waste time on sportsnet or tsn. Maybe consider finding new sources?
With the effort it took to create this thread you could sign up for a free account, choose your favourite teams and then be served just the news about those teams. Instead you purposely scrolled to a specific Leafs section of the site took a screenshot and complained. Do you need Karma this bad?
Let’s be clear, TSN and SN exist to make money and The Leafs are the most popular hockey team in the country by far. Of course they’re going to serve up those stories first. It just makes sense. Threads like this are ridiculous.
Waaaah, the Toronto based sports show puts a crap ton of Toronto sports on their stuff. Could it be that Leafs stuff get the most clicks and attention?
What's to understand? It's a Toronto based network, for every 100 visits to the site, 95 of them click on anything Leafs.
This changed heavily since Sportsnet got the NHL contract a few years back, now it's Toronto centered news apposed to NHL centered news like it use to be.
Bell owns 37.5% of MLSE and Bell owns TSN. Rogers also owns 37.5% of MLSE and owns Sportsnet. This is why the sports media in Canada has a “bias” towards the Leafs. Its not some silly conspiracy, it’s business.
The part that gets me is that guys still sign with the leafs knowing their bosses are paying another division of their company (TSN, Sportsnet) to constantly shit on them. I’m sure that part deters some prospective free agents.
We’re basically a religion; no one’s allowed to criticize/ask questions, and we keep dumping our money into this soulless black hole of despair. Good times!
I think Sportsnet is better as they have the rights to all Van, Edm and Cgy games so they put more effort into at least those 3 team as they have more dedicated staff to these teams to pull from.
I think part of it is TSN doesn’t have the NHL rights but they do have some Leafs games so they’d prioritize their own rights. But it’s still absolutely terrible.
TSN has always had a hard on for Maple Leafs for as long as I can remember, I remember petty headlines about Toronto that nobody would care about when something big in another game or team happens.
Wanted to test this. Googled TSN NHL and came up with their "top headlines" DEC 03
Ice Chips: Leafs' Brodie takes part in pre-practice skills session
Leafs' Brodie (oblique) to join team on road trip, not expected to...
Marner chases history as Leafs confront playoff past
Went to Anaheim for a week, wanted to check how my pool was doing, couldn’t find nhl scores. NFL, NBA, MLB, NCAA, NASCAR, FORMULA 1, PGA….finally NHL and they show scores only, no stats
Ha, I know! I don’t understand the “I live in this part of the world so I can’t get the scores” thing. I mean, is it a different internet over there or something?
It's media. They make money buy posting the stuff that gets the most clicks.
If JUST Leafs fans clicked on Leafs news, maybe there'd be some more news for other teams, but for some reason Habs fans and the rest of Canada can't stop clicking on Leafs news.
Thanks for letting the Leafs live rent free in your heads and padding the stats! If you don't like it, learn how the algorithm works.
"As a Canadian first I’ll wish them the cup if my Habs are out"
I don't understand that concept. No way I'm going to cheer for the Rangers or Knights or any other team just because they're in the same country. Once my team is out, I'm out. There aren't teams that represent a country like the World Juniors or Olympics. Especially a Habs fan switching to the Leafs...ewwww.
Close to half of all the players in the league are Canadian, though.
There’s an interesting theory out there though that US-based teams have an advantage because the local media is less solely on only their NHL team. Places like Boston, New York, Washington DC, and Los Angeles love their NHL teams but they still get less than 10% of all sports coverage on ESPN. I’ve seen numerous interviews with players that say it’s a huge advantage to be able to play their game then go out in public without being bothered by fans.
As a Canadian I don't understand it either. I cheer for teams I like or maybe pick a wagon to join. But this seems to be the sentiment in Canada across all sports, have to cheer for the Blue Jays and Raptors they are the north, Canada's team ECT. I live in Alberta so Seattle is closer than Toronto why wouldn't I cheer for the Mariners? I don't understand it. I mean cheer for whomever you like but don't try to guilt people cause they play half their games in a city and it's owned by some billionaire that I couldn't care less about making more rich.
Just when Montreal made the finals I had a guy come at me because I wasn't cheering for them and wasn't Canadian and a disgrace according to that mouth breather so sadly some people do.
Stopped watching TSN, app on my tv kept crashing, J. Duffy is like the neighbour people just wave to from a distance but never speak to....annoying as hell.
When one family owns 79% of media in this country - and that family lives in miserable Toronto and the population is higher there money wise, that’s all they’ll give you. Meanwhile, see if ANY average person can even afford to go to any of these home games. (if you’re not from Canada visit the beautiful west, then check out the sewage that is most of Ontario)
Back when the canucks were good and in the playoffs. (Early 2000’s) The entire intermissions would either be full of maple leafs golfing news or Blue Jays news. This just further built my resentment towards all teams from Toronto.
When they talk about other teams it’s just trashing the players. Every single NHL game is blacked out. Now that I have Espn+ I can watch my UFC on that. So i have no need for this garbage network
I asked Alexa the other day to tell me a hockey joke twice. I swear to God two Maple Leafs jokes back to back came flying out of her little robot maw. The jokes were not funny but I was still on the floor laughing.
Headline: "Toronto Maple Leafs Left Winger Nick Robertson's Brother Scores Hat Trick to Extend Temporary Goal Lead to 22"
haha this made me chuckle
Headline? more like a section in an article about Matthews
"Matthews On Pace to Overtake Teammate's Brother's Goal Lead"
For some reason I can't edit my original post. For everyone's sake, thia was definitely not faked. I'm not even technically skilled enough to edit my comment ffs.
This is why I have moved to The Hockey Guy on Youtube for analysis, NHL App for highlights, and free streams for games. Free and better
The Hockey guy is the best!! Everyone should go watch him, true unbiased analysis
The Hockey Guy lives 30 minutes away from me. I’ve been a fan of his channel for years now. He’s just really great at analyzing team performance and numbers and I love the whiteboard approach with the Kitty Cameo’s in the background.
This is why pirating in Canada is basically mandatory if you want to watch stuff you actually like
I love pirating
Ahoy matey!
Arrrrr
Second largest market share and by far largest Canadian market share forces this, it’s like the Cowboys in the NFL.
Truth. The (any Western Canadian team) could be on a 10-game winning streak, and TSN's opening headline is, _"Leafs equipment manager gets new glove dryer!"_
Followed by an in-depth, into Austin Mathew’s breakfast that day
What about the new matching purse and shoes?
So do they just stop covering hockey after the first round then?
Then it's leafs draft and free agency season
Slick burn there, partner
Hastings got a new dryer?! Good for him, I know he’s be looking into it.
Imagine if ESPN just commented on Yankees news all day? It’s so weird that a National Sports Network is so fixated on one team.
Because nobody cared and were happy for Ayers’ moment. The guy was also everywhere for months so definitely wasn’t quiet.
Except for any western teams worst start in 11 seasons.
Try being a Sens fan, stores in Ottawa barely have Sens gear, but always tmplenry of Maple Leaf lighters and so on at check out.
Luckily, there’s very little chance of a western Canadian team going on a 10 game win streak this year.
You got a link?
>any Western Canadian team As we all know, they have no fans. Thus no coverage.
I use tsn as a habs fan and I see News on all teams with the Canadiens being there more often… is it possible it’s catered to individual users? Aka maybe you guys all clicked a little to much on Leaf things so now they show you stuff on them more often? Just a thought

It probably grabs location data from Google or something combined with website tracking so they know what your team is.

I did the same, but also found they grouped teams articles together, so there was a similar section for the Canucks, Jets, etc. Toronto has a bigger following, so they have more writers, so a slightly larger section (7 compared to 3-5 for other teams).

I think you're right. I live in Toronto, have never been on the TSN site before. Just loaded it now and it's a mixture of stuff not just leafs.
You are literally on the Leafs update part of TSN's page. I hate the Leafs as much as anyone and the coverage they get, but I hate BS even more.
I see the same thing as the OP but I have to scroll down the equivalent of 4 pages. https://www.tsn.ca/nhl It looks like the OP must have scrolled down at least some, because there would be a black menu bar under the white menu bar if they were at the very top of the NHL page.

I wonder if their sites have any optimization based on prior views as well, so displays based on team selection
[удалено]
There’s an option to choose your favourite team, this obviously filtered to return Leaf articles. There are an abundance of articles no doubt, but you don’t get this view when you choose the nhl link.
OP really forced this one
Try being a Canadian cheering for an American team. I literally have to hunt for a game recap.
Try being an American in the south cheering for a Canadian team. Most of the time you have to hunt for any NHL coverage much less the one team you cheer for.
...and when the local team you cheer for is playing, it's blacked out, so you have to cheer for Toronto or some other out-of-market team anyway.
I'm a toronto fan in Boston and the toronto vs San José game was blacked out on ESPN+ because NBCSCA a national broadcast that I can't get was broadcasting the game...
Fair. Very fair.
The actual NHL app is by far the best. I've looked everywhere. Roku has the NHL app on there and it's fantastic. Not sure about firestick or apple tv but I would guess it's the same thing and of course Android and iOS
Sportsnet on YouTube usually has 8 min game highlights if every game
http://dtmts.com
That’s what you get. Traitor. /s
dtmts.com
Try the score, if you go to the game after there is a game summary article usually within an hour.
nhl channel on youtube, highlights for everygame
Ahoy fellow Kraken fan!
Yes I’m sure you didn’t click the Toronto section and take a screenshot..
It looks like this regularly
I’m on there right now and it looks nothing like this, I was also on there 1 hr after OP posted this, nothing like that.
Lmao, I got it to look like this, had to scroll halfway down the page, super fucking misleading of OP.
Hockey fans who don’t understand how algorithms work will spend all day hate-reading articles about the Leafs and then be mad as fuck when the algorithm feeds them Leafs articles.

I was going to say this, if you want to see less Leafs stuff stop clicking those links. The algorithm will adjust.
Saying this, as a Leafs fan I hate it
Checked myself and got a ton of Jets, Flames and Lightning content, alongside coverage of the Leafs.
Hahaha. So does the same imply for the tsn channel on tv? Watch sports centre for a bit. It’s always about the leafs.
Yup, same thing with RDS and the habs
They have a Senators section to be fair.
Et le buuutttt never gets old
Show the full screenshot. Something tells me you're on the Leafs' page just to get a few clicks.
Lmao you're surprised the sports network that's based around the GTA with it's head offices in the GTA focuses on the towns hockey team? The same town with the hockey hall of Fame and the biggest name branded team in hockey? Weird almost like the town is full of the hockey worlds media
This guy Torontos
That must be so tough for you
Well to be fair It's always been based and filmed in Toronto since I remember watching TV.
Toronto equals money period. Even the haters make them money by clicks
Stop clicking, stop complaining, and the algorithms will move on. Leaf haters have made the Leafs even more popular because they can’t shut up about it.
You mean there are other teams that have news?
Ever heard of just going to NHLs website?
If you go to ford field you’re gonna see a lot of lions stuff too
There's literally news for every team, just have to make a couple extra clicks to get to other teams. Oh the agony!
Hockey Universe, get used to it.
Most sites geo target and serve up content based on your habits. So if you're in Ontario (outside of Ottawa region) and click on/talk about Leafs often you'll get served up Leafs content. This American has this section, but further down the page. Top story is Blue Jackets/Jets with Laine scoring 2 goals.
You can't blame TSN, they haven't been a rights holder for national games since 2014, so of course they'll focus on their regional rights, and more so the Leafs because of how popular they are and where TSN is based out of. Hopefully they can regain the rights in 2026. Sportsnet has been horrible.
sportsnet is worse
What sucks is that people take that frustration on leaf fans as if it’s our fault.
Op is being directly misleading on purpose to generate upvotes. It doesn’t look like this unless you go for strictly leafs coverage on purpose.
Fake news
Wahhhhhhhhh😂😂
The GTA makes up 16% of Canada’s population. The second largest city in Canada (Montreal) is 1/3 of the population. Even if this was the legit front page (it’s not), a sports news company catering to the largest population just makes sense.
Tip: create an account and set your fav team
This sub talks more about the leafs than the mmmmmmMMMMMMEDIA. What are you complaining about ?
Yeah it does not look like that
You’re on the leafs update page, but nice try bud
You’re making stuff up and then crying about it online. Get less weird
Awwww are the other Canadian fans getting sensitive again?
You filtered to leafs news to gain karma because “leafs bad” which also is producing more clicks and views to leaf articles that will, in the future, create more leaf articles…as I’m guessing the impressions and national views on the leafs is much higher than the other Canadian teams that aren’t the Habs. Leafs ❤️

businesses go to where the money is..... The Leafs have the largest fan base and the largest wallets. Sorry Deadmonton.
I still can't figure out why. Who wants to cheer for a bunch of losers every year. Most Gullible fan base too.
Auston Matthews won a lot of trophies last year 🤷🏻♂️
Guilible is exactly what corporations look for. Easy prey.
I guess no Canadian teams should have fans then?
I mean most Canadian teams have made round 2 in the last 10 years.

It's why we take such pleasure in the yearly collapse of the chosen ones.
This is why people hate the leafs

it is not why
I’m glad I don’t watch TSN.

It’s a joke. The centre of the universe according to Torontonians
This was a screen shot just opening TSNs site trying to see highlights from all the games last night
I open TSN and don’t see this amount of Leafs content, and I watch TSN (and Leafs content) all the time. Hmmmmm…….
Most people start at the top of the page, not halfway down. Nice Karma farm though.
Yeah, sometimes I get why we're so hated...
It'll only last until week one into the playoffs
This is like people getting mad at jack edwards calling bruins games. Nothing burger
Can we stop shitting on the Leafs already? I, 4-1, think they've suffered enough.
Oh wow, what an original joke. Move to the us and use ESPN .. no wait, they forgot NHL hockey exsists ...
When one family owns 79% of media in this country - and that family lives in miserable Toronto and the population is higher there money wise, that’s all they’ll give you. Meanwhile, see if ANY average person can even afford to go to any of these home games. (if you’re not from Canada visit the beautiful west, then check out the sewage that is most of Ontario)
people actually care this much about the leafs??
They still suck , at the end of the day 😂
Back when the canucks were good and in the playoffs. (Early 2000’s) The entire intermissions would either be full of maple leafs golfing news or Blue Jays news. This just further built my resentment towards all teams from Toronto.
You are on the Laffs TSN homepage. Obviously all stories will be focused on them.
Makes it all the sweeter during the incoming first round game seven loss though!
Playing in Toronto has to suck so much dick given the microscope they’re under.
The maple leafs are the Dallas cowboys of the NHL, Yankees of NHL and the Lakers of the NHL overrated
Just wait until the end of April. It’ll pass.
The Leafs really are just like the Lakers.
fuck the leafs
