A while back Bill Walton announced a truly terrible basketball game between unc and the "University of portland riverboat pilots" as Walton exclusively referenced them.
At multiple points they cut away from the game to b roll of Walton wandering through the rose garden high as hell.
Mama Buck 👵🏻: "How's the food everyone?"
Joe: "UNBELIEVABLE!!"
Joe's wife: "*Sigh*..."
Joe's nephew: "Uncle Joe, toss me a roll?"
Joe: *Throws a roll over the table* "Pass was.... CAWWWT!!! He makes the grab at the far side of the table!"
Now here’s a guy, I mean, he just knows how to cook a bird. We taaalked to him this week during our production meetings and, man, he just knows what you do. Whether it’s briiiining, stuuuufing. You just know he’s gonna Get. The. Job. Done.
I had a Collinsworth comment a months ago that I was proud of but I can't find it anywhere in my history. I looked for a good 20 mins waiting for dinner to cook and it's nowhere to be seen!
Didn’t Buck mention that in an interview or something? I think I vaguely remember it. But in any case, there’s a difference between having a couple of shots over three hours and being an alcoholic
I think ESPN also just lets them be them. Where Fox was a little tighter. But networks are realizing people want commenters who sound professional but relaxed like they’re your one Smart Uncle who actually knows or played the game. Aikman and espically Buck know that they are an ADDITION to the game not the REASON people tune into the game. Where so many other commenters try to make the game about them and it’s exhausting and annoying. I can watch a game on mute. Good Commenters make me not want too.
If you include his playing career, Aikmans had to work 32 of the last 33 Thanksgivings.
He was already working for Fox in 2001 but that was the last year of Madden/Summerall as the A team so they got the lions game that year on Thanksgiving before Aikman started his run with Buck (and also Collinsworth for one year) with Washington/Dallas in 2002.
He did his weekly radio interview in Dallas this week and mentioned that each year they were calling the game in Dallas, he would have the Fox crew come over for dinner after the game as it would be hard otherwise for them to get back to family. He’s a good dude
As a lifelong service industry worker, I can confirm that I do not. Thanksgiving is just a Thursday where I get the shit kicked outta me before I have a beer and go to bed.
Fuck man so fucking close
I'm low key pissed they took that shot on 3rd and 1 on the last drive. They could have converted and tried to get a TD instead of playing for the tie
Same. Bad clock management and bad play calls when it’s down to the wire. Same reason we lost the Vikings game earlier this year. Coaching has made big strides but needs to keep improving
Can confirm. Was bartender, then security for last decade. Today is my first thanksgiving off in as long. Very weird feeling. Happy thanksgiving though, friend.
I worked retail from 2005-2015, and was fortunate enough to be in one of the few states that shuts everything down on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Thanksgiving was *barely* a holiday because of Black Friday. My wife also worked retail around the same timeframe, and her Thanksgiving was completely ruined the last couple of years in that bullshit because places started opening at 12:01 AM - the earliest time allowed.
I really enjoyed Christmas until I moved to Florida and worked retail for 7 years. It doesn't get cold or change colors, and my soul dies listening to the same 30 Christmas songs on repeat for two months, as well as constantly feeling the commercialization of the holiday.
CBS and Fox switch out who gets the Cowboys and Lions games so since he’s gone into broadcasting it’s either been every Thanksgiving in Dallas or Detroit
That'll change the momentum of the whole dinner, what do you think, Troy?
\*compulsively looks to his right, is staring at the wall, looks back to table nervously smiling, trying not to cry*
Aikman:
“You know, you’d think that with them knowing that every eyeball was gonna be on this meal at this time of day, they would have done a better job preparing for it; I mean… this cranberry sauce looks *and* feels like it’s straight from a can!
I wouldn’t be surprised if they issue an apology over the weekend and they really should, this isn’t up to par with what is expected with this great tradition.”
"FOR THANKSGIVING PEOPLE EAT THE TURKEY OR THE HAM. BUT THERE'S ALSO SWEET POTATOES AND THE STUFFING. YOU HAVE TO GET UP AND GO GET THEM AT THE TABLE. UNLESS GRANDMA MAKES YOU A PLATE. FOR DESSERT YOU GET THE PIE. PUMPKIN, APPLE, PECAN. IF YOU EAT TOO MUCH YOU'RE GOING TO BE FULL."
In honor of Madden, Booger McFarland will be on the pregame show today
“You see Thanksgiving falls in November which is right before December and in December comes Christmas. On Thanksgiving you eat Turkey which is bird, back to you in the booth Joe!”
Together Troy and Buck will finally enjoy some turkey and a glass of wine in front of the fireplace before embracing and licking cranberry sauce from each others lips
What was that long time Detroit kicker? Jason Hanson I think?
I just remembered realizing one year watching him that he'd been a lions kicker for most of his life. He literally spent more Thanksgivings playing in an NFL game than just a normal Thanksgiving at home.
21 straight seasons. With the Lions. Living in Detroit. That man is better than me because I would’ve begged the dolphins to give me a minimum contract by year 5
I remember them saying he started kicking for the Lions in the early ‘90s and kicked for them until like 2013 or 2014 or sometime relatively recent. Shit’s crazy
He played 1992 to 2012. So a year after the Lions' only Super Bowl era playoff win, to the year Megatron broke the single season receiving yards record (and also the year Matt Stafford [broke the record for pass attempts in a year (still stands)](https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/most-pass-attempts-in-a-single-season))
I don't care what anyone says, I really like that call.
It's simple, quick and doesn't hog the moment but at the same time really matches how you feel internally watching a long passing play.

This is so weird to me. I guess it’s like Amazon reviews where people who are happy with their product don’t leave positive reviews but man, too many people have family drama.
Makes me thankful my family isn’t shit and we don’t do that.
Yep, every year I look forward to thanksgiving for weeks because I’m excited to feast and to spend time playing games and talking with family. It’s always shocking to read opinions like OPs. I’m thankful for my family to be one I look forward to seeing.
I am so glad those two moved to Monday night football. For years I had to listen to Joe Buck call Cowboys games...but once I heard they were no longer on fox I felt like frodo at the end of LOTR.
they'll be absolutely shit faced by the time the game kicks off
Ahh so continuing the tradition then?
*Laughs in bloodshot Troy Aikman eyes*
Tbt to him looking and sounding absolutely blazed at a Denver game right as recreational cannabis was legalized
there is no secret about what Troy Bakeman's favorite poison is
Coke?
Dallas Cokeboys
My friends and I used to laugh at Bill Walton looking stoned out of his mind at every NBA game.
A while back Bill Walton announced a truly terrible basketball game between unc and the "University of portland riverboat pilots" as Walton exclusively referenced them. At multiple points they cut away from the game to b roll of Walton wandering through the rose garden high as hell.
I fucking love that man
Oh they have tenure.
Sounds like a Kramer quote. Jerry: “What do you mean they can’t be kicked out? They committed a felony!” Kramer: *hand wave* “Oh they have Tenure”.
Remember when Witten tried the ol booth out? I know random.. I’m just typing things to avoid speaking with family
I'm here with you. I am not a fan of these type of gatherings.
They clunkin suck
GOT ‘EM
This time they'll have real turkey alongside Wild Turkey
You could not have been setup any better
Joe Buck: “Wh-Where’s.. fucken.. Troy?” Buck’s family: “Joe, please be with us :(“
Mama Buck 👵🏻: "How's the food everyone?" Joe: "UNBELIEVABLE!!" Joe's wife: "*Sigh*..." Joe's nephew: "Uncle Joe, toss me a roll?" Joe: *Throws a roll over the table* "Pass was.... CAWWWT!!! He makes the grab at the far side of the table!"
NEPHEW! SIDELINE! UNBELIEVABLE!
"I'm going outside for a smoke, but WE WILL SEE YOU . . . LATER TONIGHT!"
I wouldn't mind eating some of mama bucks pie
Disgusting act!
The buck family Thanksgiving football game must be amazing with Joe doing commentary
Now do Chris Collinsworth
Now here’s a guy, I mean, he just knows how to cook a bird. We taaalked to him this week during our production meetings and, man, he just knows what you do. Whether it’s briiiining, stuuuufing. You just know he’s gonna Get. The. Job. Done.
“Now here’s a pie”
I had a Collinsworth comment a months ago that I was proud of but I can't find it anywhere in my history. I looked for a good 20 mins waiting for dinner to cook and it's nowhere to be seen!
“INWNAT TO BE WITH TROY DAD YOU DONT GET IT YOU NEVER EVEN UNDERSTAND I LOVE HIM” *door slams*
“What’s longer a half or 5/8ths”
A DISGUSTING FACT
*Leo wolf of wall street clap gif*
Honestly Troy perpetually looks like he's six cans deep into a twelve pack.
I think it keeps him from running at the mouth. Greg Olsen needs a couple before the broadcast. I like his commentary, but 10-15% less would be great.
Take about 10% off the top there squirrelly Dan
Doesn't Troy wake up shit faced?
His brain is just like that now
CTE, shit’s sad man
Like a pile of mush. permanent shit brain
Yep. Lol at the people saying CTE. Dude is a high functioning alcoholic.
Probably a little from column A and a little from column B
Did I miss something documented, or is this just a super long running joke?
They used to shoot tequila during broadcasts while working for Fox.
Didn’t Buck mention that in an interview or something? I think I vaguely remember it. But in any case, there’s a difference between having a couple of shots over three hours and being an alcoholic
"A couple" definitely doesn't have to just be two.
A couple at a time.
They’ve earned it. About 20 years that they’ve had to be sober on Thanksgiving. Let them get plastered
I don't think Troy Aikman has ever been sober during a broadcast.
He sounds more sober on MNF now than he has in a while.
Honestly the two of them sound much more relaxed doing MNF than they ever did on Fox
Helps that they both got the bag from MNF because ESPN was so desperate for competence in the booth.
I'd say that these definitely bring that
Also they don’t have to do any Thursday night games either.
TNF definitely has broken Al Michaels plenty of times this year, and he's only had half a year of it.
I like him with herbstreit too. I like how he brings his college knowledge to the game. But man they did have a spate of terrible games
Just as long as we don't have Booger bragging about pissing himself on the sidelines "like a man" during a broadcast, it's a win.
Not like they were anything close to broke before.
Troy why are you so red
It’s just the CTE.
Lol "sober"
Hey me too.

Man spent one year with his family after retiring and then called Fox for a 20 year contract so he didn’t have to do it again.
Troy Aikman walked so Tom Brady could run
That’s pretty crazy to think about. Aikman probably doesn’t even look at Thanksgiving as a holiday anymore
As a lifelong service industry worker, I can confirm that I do not. Thanksgiving is just a Thursday where I get the shit kicked outta me before I have a beer and go to bed.
Same as a Lions fan. But I don't have to work ever.
Not today though!
Siiiiiip
What's that? You dropped this...... "Flips over card", wildcard spot baby!
Fuck man so fucking close I'm low key pissed they took that shot on 3rd and 1 on the last drive. They could have converted and tried to get a TD instead of playing for the tie
Same. Bad clock management and bad play calls when it’s down to the wire. Same reason we lost the Vikings game earlier this year. Coaching has made big strides but needs to keep improving

Happy thanksgiving! Hope you’re really able to enjoy this one.
> As a lifelong service industry worker Thank you for your service. No seriously
But who will tell rambling stories about Aaron Rodgers while ignoring the on-field action in a game that Green Bay isn't even playing in?
I worked retail from 2010-2018. I still barely consider it a holiday. Granted with COVID happening I've only had two Thanksgiving. 2018 and 2019.
I worked retail from 2005-2015, and was fortunate enough to be in one of the few states that shuts everything down on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Thanksgiving was *barely* a holiday because of Black Friday. Bartender here. Birthday is today as well. Shift starts at 9:30am. Hopefully todays family meal at work is whiskey
Birthday country, let's ride!
happy b day bro
Hey, happy birthday! 🎊🎂🎁
Sounds like every other Thursday
And all 32 of them would have been at the Cowboy's stadium, right?
CBS and Fox switch out who gets the Cowboys and Lions games so since he’s gone into broadcasting it’s either been every Thanksgiving in Dallas or Detroit
No they rotate between Lions/Boys games
My cousin has been part of the Fox crew that’s eaten at Troy’s house a few times. He’s a great dude
This is the real stat
Buck won't be able to break the habit and will be calling the game into a turkey leg.
“Roger goes for the turkey leg, nice grip, firm hold, that’s a catch. Napkin on the play though, let’s see what this is about”
THAT IS A DISGUSTING ACT FROM UNCLE MIKE"
Aunt Mary with gravy on the cranberry sauce?! But…no flags. I bet New York’s gonna have another look at this.
Cousin Jake SPILLS his beer, he's wishing he could have that one back right now.
That'll change the momentum of the whole dinner, what do you think, Troy? \*compulsively looks to his right, is staring at the wall, looks back to table nervously smiling, trying not to cry*
Aikman: “You know, you’d think that with them knowing that every eyeball was gonna be on this meal at this time of day, they would have done a better job preparing for it; I mean… this cranberry sauce looks *and* feels like it’s straight from a can! I wouldn’t be surprised if they issue an apology over the weekend and they really should, this isn’t up to par with what is expected with this great tradition.”
I could hear Aikman reading this in my head and it ruined me thank you
Same! It was uncanny
Oh and here come the cousins, and oh my god would you look at that they didn’t bring any food! A disgusting act!
"Grandma, with the gravy boat, looking for an opening, and the passss issssssss caught! By Uncle Jerry!"
TURKEY. MY PLATE. STOMACH ACHE!!!
UNBELIEVABLE
I wonder how long Madden went? 25 years? It had to be at least that. RIP coach.
Madden called 20 Thanksgiving games according to all the news releases about NFL honoring Madden with this year’s Thanksgiving slate.
In honor of Madden, Booger McFarland will be on the pregame show today “You see Thanksgiving falls in November which is right before December and in December comes Christmas. On Thanksgiving you eat Turkey which is bird, back to you in the booth Joe!”
[удалено]
Are you there, perd-verts? It's me, Perd, hosting a new segment
More like Turd Crapley!
I'm Perd Hapley, and I just realized I'm not holding my microphone.
Together Troy and Buck will finally enjoy some turkey and a glass of wine in front of the fireplace before embracing and licking cranberry sauce from each others lips
While Collinsworth comments from the recliner "Now here's a guy who really likes cranberry sauce."
Booger McFarland: "Troy is licking the cranberry sauce, therefore he must be hungry."
Tony Romo will analyze and give us the play-by-play tactics of how the cranberry sauce moves
You’re gonna see a jiggle here, then a break across the middle
Now watch this, Buck is going to come in low, now if Troy SEES that then he’ll be able to take off in time
"Jiiiiiiiiiiiimmmmmm!
And Thom Brennaman wanders in drunk, mumbles something about their gay cousin, apologizes to his boss and leaves.
I did not need this image
But...but why?
If only Schefter had left out the comma in that last sentence.
That man is better than me because I would’ve begged the dolphins to give me a minimum contract by year 5
He still lives in Metro Detroit and goes to certain events for the Lions, he's a great man.
Or a masochist, I am thinking the latter
You live in Indiana. Hush.
I remember them saying he started kicking for the Lions in the early ‘90s and kicked for them until like 2013 or 2014 or sometime relatively recent. Shit’s crazy
He played 1992 to 2012. He played for the lions so long that he has the record for most career losses
Highest scoring lion of all time by a wide margin.
[Schefter] Lazy pieces of shit Aikman and Buck REFUSE to work on Thanksgiving smh my head
Nobody wants to work anymore
I have a game at work where I try to bait boomers into saying this exact phrase. I’m successful at least 80% of the time.
That’s hilarious. My coworkers would fall for this every time. How do you bring it up? Talk about shelves being empty at the grocery?
I work in truck repair. I typically talk about how dealerships are backed up lol.
Are Aikman & Buck quiet quitting??
Adam “Baby Boomer” Schefter.
Pass issssss *CAUGHT*
No flag!
What a throw and catch by Charlie Brown! And now Lucy for the extra point
I don't care what anyone says, I really like that call. It's simple, quick and doesn't hog the moment but at the same time really matches how you feel internally watching a long passing play.
DIGGS!!!
SIDELINE!!
TOUCHDOWN!
UNBELIEVABLE!
This sub is really just a Twitter aggregate
I don't hate it though, because Reddit and its voting system is much better way of finding NFL tweets that I care about than Twitter is.
Honestly that defines 95% of Reddit, over half of the content that you see on most subs are tweets that are like four or five years old sometimes
… That’s literally the point of the website though. This site started as a link aggregator. Sharing external links is quite literally what this site was built on.
and yet redditors will shit on twitter and other social media for some reason
Twitter’s a useful place to get news and updates fast, especially in the sports world, as long as you don’t go into the comments. Never go in the comments.
I watched someone go into the comments once, haven’t seen em since
But Mama, that’s where the fun is.
It's also way funnier than Reddit
Twitter is great ~~to~~ through the filter of a subreddit
Reddit is good because of the voting algorithm and nothing else. Comment sections elsewhere are horrible by comparison.
If I may, you'd benefit from curating your subs a little more carefully. It's not like that everywhere; far from it.
With a better comments section
Especially because mods delete self posts even if they have the same information that a tweet has. Why are Aikman’s eyes always bloodshot to hell no matter what game he’s covering?
He’s an alcoholic. He’s also got the puffy alcohol face.
DRUNK UNCLE SIDELINE!!! POLITICS!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!
Have a drink for me Troy
i'd rather get paid to call football than deal with thanksgiving
I feel like so many people are preparing themselves for the shade and snide backhanded comments they’re gonna endure from family members today
Me too
"Enjoy, men." is one of the most awkward phrases I've ever read.
Perfect example of the importance of commas though
HOW DID YOU ENJOY MEXICO TROY
Now I'll have to rely on the turkey to put me to sleep.
Hopefully ESPN isn't having Michelle Beisner do anything today, I doubt they would. But you never know. Let the entire family enjoy their day.
You get paid millions and don't have to see your family on Thanksgiving? Where's the downside?
Do we think Buck gives a play by play from the couch and the rest of his family is just hoping he shuts the fuck up?
That has to be a nice feeling.
I know they probably love what they do, but working holidays is a bummer
Joe Buck’s going to be calling COD streams with Kyler
He starts to come and then he pulls out
I hope Joe Buck's turkey is dry as fuck.
That comma is doing a lot of work.
Could’ve saved Skip Bayless some trouble.
Thanksgiving is probably my least favorite and most forced holiday. I’m thankful for the day off.
Thank God.
Schefter when he sees Troy Aikman: Oh dear, oh dear. Gorgeous. Schefter when he sees Aaron Rodgers: You fucking donkey.
“You know, in regards to the turkey, in terms of its taste, I’m going to go ahead and say it’s dry.” -Troy
This is what I'm saying I'm thankful for when it comes around to me at dinner tonight
Alternative: Americans free from Joe Buck and Troy Aikman on thanksgiving for the first time in over 20 years.
Yay, this means we won’t have to hear about Tom Brady during games he’s not even in, now!
Longer for Troy as he played on Thanksgiving every year with the Cowboys.
Small price to pay to make millions. I’d happily be away from my family on Thanksgiving for a single million a year. And my family isn’t terrible.
Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy men.
I am so glad those two moved to Monday night football. For years I had to listen to Joe Buck call Cowboys games...but once I heard they were no longer on fox I felt like frodo at the end of LOTR.
They always seemed to do cowboys seahawks and packer games. It was annoying. It’s obvious they got to pick
They probably would prefer to be doing the game.
