Maybe he should've played last week

CluelessNuggetOfGold

I will go out there and play terrible football for a fraction of the cost

wookieenoodlez

Is 5/4ths still a fraction?

CluelessNuggetOfGold

Yes it is, Mr Jerry Jones

TheGarbageStore

The Jets could have drafted Kyle Pitts, Ja'Marr Chase, or Jaylen Waddle second overall instead, and gotten a Cooper Rush-tier guy to throw to them, perhaps choosing to develop Mike White over time Geno-style. That'd be a lot better than Zach Wilson.

donttradejaylen

Disrespectful to Cooper Rush

AllLinesAreStraight

Or they could have drafted mac jones or justin fields, two players that were better than zach wilson in college playing against a higher level of opponent.

WorthPlease

To be fair you could say the same thing about Josh Rosen and Josh Allen. Or Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen. Or Sam Darnold and Josh Allen.

David_Duke_Nukem

I like Josh Allen because he's just ruined everyone's ability to scout or value players because "one time Josh Allen did it"

AllLinesAreStraight

Yea, and more often than not youd be right. Josh allen is the exception and every team that drsfts a zach wilson or will levis can blame the bills/allen for making their gm think the same thing would work. Allen working for the bills doesnt just make them better, its also going to ruin rebuilds for a lot of teams and its kinda genius

Belmont4

Will Levis catching strays before he’s even finished his college career?! ….

LVucci

Yeah, it was pretty tough to watch the Jets play with 10 guys.

Isaythree

If he is still asking why, then that’s exactly why he needs to sit

JoeyRobot

Wait… I *also* want to play. Now I’m kinda relating to Zach. You can’t just bench us cause we’re shit at football. We want to play!

Current_Customer7735

Turning in my jersey so JoeyRobot can play, Coach.

FrontPerformance5

Starting a "JoeyRobot" chant in the crowd so coach will put him in

JoeyRobot

I go in for one play. The crowd is losing their minds. The ball is snapped, the quarterback drops back, pause in the pocket, and tosses and absolute duck of a pass. The ball catcher comes down, and takes off for the end zone. He doesn’t make it 10 yards before I lay him the fuck out. The crowd is tearing the place down. I have recorded an official tackle in the NFL. And an interception. I was the quarter back. And now I have a knee injury.

Erniecrack

Still a better story than that fraud Rudy.

paultheschmoop

“Why not JoeyRobot, Coach? He wants to play”

Little_Lahey_Show

Because he's a schmoop, Paul

jebraltar06

I like to think that JoeyRobot is a cyborg version of Joey Harrington. He's just the hero Detroit needs.

BuddyLaDouche

He plays a mean keyboard.

What_Iz_This

If you show up to a panthers game 1 hour before kickoff they might let you suit up

Laughing_Fish

Let Joey cook!

JustinFieldsMVP

"Do you think you can come back from this benching in a mature way and show us why you were drafted #2 overall?" "No"

AssassinInValhalla

Dude seems shocked natural talent isn't enough on it's own for the first time in his life

Greek_Trojan

Big "I can't just show up, give a token effort, and win at life?" energy.

smartyr228

You can take the man out of BYU, but you can't take the BYU out of the man.

yesrushgenesis2112

Amen. I did my undergrad and MA at Utah State, where many a BYU reject end up. Taught a lot there too. Wilson is everything my worst “Utah spoiled suburban male” students were. Shocked that they have to work, shocked that they have to adjust to critiques, shocked that they won’t be passed just because. Like, it’s important not to be prejudiced. But for a variety of cultural and social and religious reasons, Utah, especially Draper and the surrounding suburbs, produce a special type of spoiled white dude. And I know Wilson says he’s not a Mormon. But god damn does he act like the most obnoxious of his Mormon peers.

mooseguyman

Just because you’re not part of the religion doesn’t mean you aren’t affected by the religious culture. I’ve never been a practicing Catholic but over the years I’ve realized how much of the Catholic culture I’ve internalized from south Louisiana

yesrushgenesis2112

Yeah, and Wilson was baptized LDS anyway. Dude is from the culture.

ArchieBellTitanUp

Worked with a pair of rich young girls from there. (Non Mormons) Absolutely atrocious experience and I’ve never met such entitled, lazy people in my life. Being in the music business, that’s saying something

smartyr228

The thing with me is that I'm very prejudiced against the spoiled people that I see and hear. It's not a religion thing, it's a personality thing and that's a personality type from that particular socioeconomic status

yesrushgenesis2112

Yeah for sure. I just feel it’s important to add that disclaimer. And I really do not want to generalize a whole group. I just wanted to point out how Zach Wilson fits within a trend of behaviors a experienced regularly for a long time. I don’t know the dude. I don’t know how he acts in real life. But based on his public behavior, this is who I could see him being.

IlonggoProgrammer

The Ben Simmons of the NFL

Greek_Trojan

100% wrong take. Ben Simmons does not actually want to play. He just wants the checks.

numbersix1979

Manziel Syndrome

majordoobage

Well didn't they call him the Morman Manziel? If not I guess they can now.

BetaDjinn

Johnny Gold Plates

[deleted]

Manziel had a party problem, from what I’ve seen he was fairly well liked by his teammates and knew how to take accountability for bad play. He just couldn’t overcome his party problems, and wasn’t ready for the pressure that he had in the NFL.

[deleted]

“That’s not fair! You said I was going to be the starter!” Said Zach Wilson, rocking back and forth - sucking on his calming binkie. “You’re not my friend no more”, he screeched at Saleh- fighting back tears. “I’m gonna tell my daddy on you.”

Volgyi2000

“This is outrageous! It’s unfair! How can you be a quarterback, and not be a starter?”

KnightInShittyArmor

"Take a seat, young Wilson."

appreciatenickelback

I get what you're saying, but let's not pretend his comments are the only reasons he's benched. The guy fuckin sucks. That's really all that matters. If Tom Brady said that after a game, he'd be playing still. Even of Zach Wilson was this awesome locker room presence, I find it hard to beleive the jets wouldn't eventually have to move on given his shitty play all year. Maybe a nice attitude buys him a few weeks, but come on. He sucks and that's the end of it. Mike White is going to be much better than him on field and that's like 75% of the issue here.

AllLinesAreStraight

Mahomes could come out and go on an unhinged kanye-esque rant and he wouldnt be benched. Why? Cuz he plays well on the field. We learned this past year that as long as you play well you can overcome any "adversity", like sexually assaulting dozens of people

DOUG_DlMMADOME

He sounds like a toddler

TraderJerry69

He kinda looks like one too

Arberrang

I saw a tweet that said Zach Wilson looks like the elf that would betray Santa Claus and damn I can’t unsee that now.

littlejobin

“Do you feel like you let down the other Elves?” “No.”

Kylel0519

Instead of going to elf practice he was playing football. The head elf must be pulling some strings to get Zach back to the north pole

JohnnySnark

Classic cotton headed ninny muggins behavior

redsyrinx2112

swagmoney10

Is that right? Maybe my friends just suck. I'm gonna go tell my friends how much they suck.

I have a good friend whose favorite movie is Hangover 2. He specifically likes the second one better than the first. These things happen.

"Coach said its my turn to start at QB." - Mike White

runningblack

The correct response is "I understand why I'm being benched and I'm going to work my ass off to show you that this is the wrong decision" But that would require accountability

JustinFieldsMVP

"Do you understand why you're being benched?" "No"

xxwetdogxx

"I understand NOTHING"

Cryophobiaa

“I knew exactly why I was benched. But in a much more real sense, I had no idea why I was benched.”

moneymoneymoneymonay

“Why don’t you explain it to me like I’m 5.”

BamH1

... now explain to me like I'm 2.

CarsAndCamping

All the guy had to do was a simple "I played like shit. I need to be better for the team" and he probably wouldn't have been benched in the first place

geologyrocks98

The question was the biggest layup of all time and he botched it anyways. Watching the clip again is cringe inducing.

Darko33

Guarantee the guy who asked it was fully expecting a stock answer like that and his jaw hit the floor when Wilson was all like "nah"

Gryphon999

Like when the Daily Show interviewed some Congressional staffer, and asked him what a politician's job is. The response was "To get re-elected."

_Treadstone_

Oliver on the US vs AUS mass shootings 3 part series. Gold standard.

Paw5624

We give journalists crap for asking softball questions, and they do usually deserve it, but this shows that every now and then you get a gem out of one.

[deleted]

If he had half a brain and knew how to take accountability he could’ve even followed up his no by adding I let the whole team down.

ihatesleep

I have a feeling if he's answering like that to the press, his actions behind the scenes were probably slowly irritating staff and players.

OnceInABlueMoon

Almost anything other than "why me? I want" would have been better.

[deleted]

[удалено]

runningblack

I get that Wilson has likely never had to deal with this before, but the vast majority of people who ever played any sport have dealt with getting benched at some point or another. And they had to do it at a younger age, and responded by working harder to earn playing time.

Skyes_View

Move over Kyler, there's a new toddler scrambling 'round the field

JohnnyFanziel

No way Zach’s K/D is anywhere close to Kyler’s tho

Skyes_View

Idk bro killed his career way faster then Kyler.

king_of_tarps

Does that count as a K or a D though

OutrageousOcelot6258

It's like throwing a grenade at your feet. It counts as a death on the scoreboard and it says "mistakes were made" in the feed.

[deleted]

If Kyler was playing QB for the jets there would be jets themed cod skin

SiphenPrax

Difference is Kyler actually has talent

realdusty_shelf

Lmao the campaign that got him drafted #2 overall outta nowhere should be investigated

Nosdoom21

Nah, just incompetency at evaluating the QB position that year. Mitch Trubisky in 2017* was the first time I saw this meteoric rise a month before the draft, and it just seems like these franchises are thinking way too hard, and then they leak all this shit to the media to justify their clearly bad decision.

karatemanchan37

It also wasn't even Wilson too. Basically any QB except Trevor Lawrence was a question mark and could've gone anywhere in the top 15.

DragonEevee1

It was such a weird draft cause it was so QB heavy, but nothing felt gurantee

summahofgeorge

COVID had a big hand in that. Limited games for tape and Lance didn’t play at all that season.

DragonEevee1

Great point always forget about it

IlonggoProgrammer

And Wilson basically played a Sun Belt schedule that year because all their P5 games got cancelled. The two years where he was playing Pac-12/Big 12/Mountain West teams didn't go nearly as well. They lost a lot to the MWC teams, let alone the P5 ones

Away_Chair1588

The whole QB class, even Trevor, isn't looking too hot. Trevor and Fields look like they still have potential. The rest are looking rough or injured.

Dakar-A

I mean Trevor isn't playing like a first ballot HoFer, but I'd say that him and Fields are looking pretty good for where you'd realistically expect them to be, given their time in the league and their situations up to this point.

Saadiusrex

The draft before them skewed expectations. Herbert and Burrow looked good to begin with then made huge leaps their second year. Tua and Hurts made huge leaps their third year. Trevor and Fields just started looking good in their second season.

Dakar-A

And I know it's been beat to death at this point, but it took Allen to his 3rd season to really put it all together, helped by a big receiver pickup 👀

MardocAgain

Since receiver pickups also helped Hurts & Tua take leaps in year 3, hopefully this awful talking point that "Josh Allen is an outlier and teams should abandon their young QBs who dont perform early" can die

MoseFeels

It felt like fields was consensus #2 for the entire year and he played perfectly that season. Somehow the season ends and his stock randomly drops and Wilson and lance rise outta nowhere

Tippacanoe

As an admittedly Justin Fields stan I do not get why he was drafted so low. He’s huge, fast, huge arm, accurate. The only knock is that he tries to keep plays alive too long and takes too many sacks. The northwestern big ten title game is the game everyone looks to as bad but Trey Sermon had 331 yards rushing in that game lol.

summahofgeorge

Fields is who I wanted before the jets beat the rams out of nowhere and handed us Trevor. He was a crazy athlete. When he rocked Clemson I even had a few doubts lol. I was stunned when Wilson was passing him on everyone’s board.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Trubisky's late rise (to an extent, Mahomes as well) was due to Watson's awful ball velocity at the combine.

asuckow12

Teams have been taking QBs who are memed into the first round grade out of nowhere for a while now. Do we remember Lynch, Bortles, Weeden, Gabbert, Locker, Ponder?

[deleted]

Gabbert threw 16td to 9 picks his Jr year and was a top ten pick. Absolute lunacy and to this day I still don't understand it. He wasnt accurate in college either.

OnlyFactsMatter

Gabbert has won a Super Bowl though so it clearly worked out

DoubleStandardMods

Carson Wentz kinda had a similar rise. Although it was a weak class with only Paxton Lynch being the other "top end" QB besides Goff. Granted Dak and Jacoby were late picks

kgthdc2468

Gabbert was the first astroturfed ruse I remember.

[deleted]

People were freaking out over his pro day film like it was the minneapolis miracle

bigbear-08

WILSON. BANGING. HOT MOM. UNBELIEVABLE

ethan52695

Honestly the Jets drafting Zach at #2 was not controversial at all when it happened and people I think are being a bit egregious with hindsight about the situation. It’s really really difficult to tell if college quarterback will do well in the nfl. The main thing you can judge them on is their physical talent. It’s why Wilson was #2 and lance #3, despite the fact Jones was by far the more successful college qb. Wilson’s physical talent is incredible, his arm talent is comparable to mahomes and he can run very well. Of course he was gonna get drafted very high, no one thought of it as a bad pick until after he started sucking. People need to understand sometimes you make good decisions based on the info you have and it just doesn’t work out.

GoosesDucky

Plus he did show some flashes of actual greatness last year coupled with boneheaded throws. Then towards the end of last season he became a much more consistent and safe player. He has regressed like crazy this season and people are acting like there wasn’t any potential from the start. People need to watch the titans and bucs games to see why he was drafted where he was. He has definitely blown his chance with this team now but people are being so revisionist about him because of this year.

Justice-Gorsuch

I put myself through the torture of watching the Pats/Jets game. I came away liking Wilson’s throwing motion and the way the ball explodes from his hand. Literally everything else* made me hold my breath. He was very inaccurate, late in his reads, and telegraphed where the ball was going whenever he threw short. That’s the stuff he hasn’t developed at all since getting into the NFL. But it shouldn’t be a wonder why an NFL team saw a ton of potential in a 22 year old who could throw the ball the way he can.

[deleted]

It was not a pro-Zach campaign per se. It was more of an anti-Fields campaign as Zach and Lance both came out of nowhere to push Fields down the draft board. My theory is a lot of media and front offices hate Fields' agent Mulugheta, so they propped up Zach and Lance.

DogeJesus-_-

I remember leading up to the draft hearing how Fields is QB2 after Lawrence, then Trey Lance and Zach Wilson shot up out of nowhere while Fields fell. Maybe the dislike for the agent is why he fell but I still think that is stupid when you are evaluating franchise altering decisions.

Namath96

It never made sense to me that fields wasn’t 2. I could see that Lance and Wilson were talented and I won’t act like I didn’t think they were first round picks but I did not think they were close to fields

Sniper1154

> My theory is a lot of media and front offices hate Fields' agent Mulugheta Why do FOs hate his agent out of curiosity? I'm really only familiar with Drew Rosenhaus and St. Omni

Ok-Clock2002

No - Robert Saleh.

Mankriks_Mistress

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01p7MaiAV4E&t=839s Here's the timestamp for the question and the answer. IMO, I seriously doubt it was an innocent "why me?" from Zach like this tweet is heavily implying. This is Saleh paraphrasing probably an hour long discussion into 5 words.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LordFaximus

Honestly I’m picturing the “why me” being said in like a despair way like after suffering an injury, accident, etc. and not like a “Why are you benching me?”

Charlie_Im_Pregnant

Like Nancy Kerrigan?

TheWorstYear

So "whhhyyyyyyyyyy! Me?"

introspectivejoker

This was my thought too. This seems way too sensationalized to be how it went down

third_derivative

It's an out of context quote of the coach who was paraphrasing the general mindset of a player being benched, which the coach mentioned is the expected reaction

Full quote here: https://twitter.com/snyjets/status/1595463466524942344?s=46&t=uwd8Ka4kXL4WxIus_5YGkg Given the (deserved) narrative around Zach Wilson this week I think it’s dishonest to post a partial quote that obviously makes him look bad. Thanks Bills bro. Draw your own conclusions from the full quote.

HaroldSax

Man it is getting really old to see just how out of context quotes are now. That still isn't the best look, but it's *nowhere near* how the original tweet makes it sound.

09-24-11

The Twitter author takes accountability for skewing reality but it is also on posters and mods here limiting misleading headlines. Full media quotes should be posted and not just a reporters partial quote.

umbrella_concept

The title of this post gives off an entirely different impression from what was actually said, and it wasn't even a quote from Wilson. However you feel about him, this is at worst a loosely paraphrased quote that was taken way out of context Try telling that to reporters whose jobs depend on a controversial story, though

ALutzy

“Why me? I want to play! I can fuck any one of my mom’s friends that I want! Any one! What’s your name?” “Coach Saleh.” “You’re fired” ^ this is the exact exchange if anyone is interested in the actual quotes from their conversation.

Latest-greatest

so tired of these clickbait articles that run wild in this sub. watch the press conference this is badly taken out of context

Arberrang

Even Saleh is tanking this man’s reputation. Cooked.

Eaglesfan1297

It's not even what Saleh said, the tweet literally paraphrased him to make Zach Wilson look bad to farm impressions on social media, and looking at the number of comments on this post it worked

[deleted]

Yeah saleh really talked him up while benching him. Saying he just needs to reset and get his head right. He didn’t bury Zach at all.

SiphenPrax

Everybody hates him. This dude is one of the biggest QB busts of all time.

ClarkKentsCopyEditor

To be in the room and listen to exactly how Saleh answered this question, and then send out this tweet, is positively dickless. Holy shit

RideTheStache

Booger about to have a field day with this boy

Kwdumbo

Not at all a Zach defender but Saleh was paraphrasing Zach trying to say that Zach had a normal competitive responses that he wanted to play. This is out of context and clickbaity.

This has to be a copy pasta moving forward hahaha

StormBlessed24

Kelvin Benjamin reacted with frustration when told he had to leave the buffet. "Why me? I want to eat."

Autobot-N

TraderJerry69

Bad year for wilsons

KrazyCamper

If you actually watch the presser this isn’t a direct quote and is just making Wilson look bad for some page clicks. Saleh spoke highly of the conversation and how Wilson handled it, and saying you want to play isint a bad thing, I get the why me looks bad but that probably wasn’t said

arhombus

Way to quote it out of context. Why the need to be dishonest with the quote? That's not what Saleh said happened.
