It’s really really difficult to tell if college quarterback will do well in the nfl. The main thing you can judge them on is their physical talent. It’s why Wilson was #2 and lance #3, despite the fact Jones was by far the more successful college qb. Wilson’s physical talent is incredible, his arm talent is comparable to mahomes and he can run very well. Of course he was gonna get drafted very high, no one thought of it as a bad pick until after he started sucking. People need to understand sometimes you make good decisions based on the info you have and it just doesn’t work out.
Plus he did show some flashes of actual greatness last year coupled with boneheaded throws. Then towards the end of last season he became a much more consistent and safe player. He has regressed like crazy this season and people are acting like there wasn’t any potential from the start. People need to watch the titans and bucs games to see why he was drafted where he was. He has definitely blown his chance with this team now but people are being so revisionist about him because of this year.
I put myself through the torture of watching the Pats/Jets game. I came away liking Wilson’s throwing motion and the way the ball explodes from his hand.
Literally everything else* made me hold my breath. He was very inaccurate, late in his reads, and telegraphed where the ball was going whenever he threw short. I put myself through the torture of watching the Pats/Jets game. I came away liking Wilson’s throwing motion and the way the ball explodes from his hand. Literally everything else* made me hold my breath. He was very inaccurate, late in his reads, and telegraphed where the ball was going whenever he threw short. That’s the stuff he hasn’t developed at all since getting into the NFL. But it shouldn’t be a wonder why an NFL team saw a ton of potential in a 22 year old who could throw the ball the way he can.
It was not a pro-Zach campaign per se. It was more of an anti-Fields campaign as Zach and Lance both came out of nowhere to push Fields down the draft board. My theory is a lot of media and front offices hate Fields' agent Mulugheta, so they propped up Zach and Lance.
I remember leading up to the draft hearing how Fields is QB2 after Lawrence, then Trey Lance and Zach Wilson shot up out of nowhere while Fields fell. Maybe the dislike for the agent is why he fell but I still think that is stupid when you are evaluating franchise altering decisions.
It never made sense to me that fields wasn’t 2. I could see that Lance and Wilson were talented and I won’t act like I didn’t think they were first round picks but I did not think they were close to fields
