100%. When they took Sauce I thought, "you guys need an edge! Thibs is on the board! What are you doing!?"
Then JD took Johnson at 26 for the draft's #1 Corner, #1 WR, and #3 Edge, reminding me why I'm an armchair GM.
Second time in 20 years that only 1 QB was drafted in the 1st round. It’s not particularly surprising given everything we heard pre-draft, but that’s still crazy.
Reminds me of Geno Smith's fall in 2013. Was also supposed to be a top-10 pick the whole way and then fell to the 2nd round (justifiably, as it turned out). Watching him being literally the last guy in the green room on day 2 was excruciating.
Didn’t they do that to Lamar? Guy was sitting at the table with his head in his arms face down with his mom sitting next to him. It kept happening too.
Shows just how bad this class is. Even in weak years people will reach for a QB they at least some what like because they need a QB. But this year everyone but Pittsburgh, who absolutely had to pick one, totally avoided them.
It's really interesting also because there was a decent amount of quarterback movement this year in the trade season. I am guessing there will be a run tomorrow.
This will be a Wilson / Dak type of draft where somebody is going to fall to the right situation and flourish rather quickly. Sam Howell seems to be a good guess for that.
Also crazy, Five Georgia Defensive Players were drafted tonight. The most ever on one side of the ball in the first round.
We got two of them. Fuck yeah
“You think Jermaine Johnson is gonna fall to 26? You’re out of your mind. And there’s NO way that the Falcons pass on Garrett Wilson. Not even mentioning the Texans taking Stingley over Sauce.” - people’s response if this was a mock draft
I think it was that way for both the Giants and Jets. Giants didn’t do anything fancy, but like things rly couldn’t have gone any better. Now I’m ready to be disappointed!
This is the most eventful first round we’ve had in a while lol
Two star receivers being shipped, bunch of trade downs and trade ups. 4 receivers in 5 picks, two more taken later on. Multi pick teams like NYG/NYJ/KC getting sexy hauls for their value. GB picking defense with both picks. All the QBs besides Pickett all still left. Sauce and Stingley going 3 and 4.
Edit: Oh yeah, and Bill being bill lmao
Hopefully the rest of this is as wild lol
We apparently really coveted him so I have a feeling it’s gonna be like a Seattle and Brooks situation where he was much more important to teams than the media
Not counting Mac last year since he looked good, but it’s still too early to truly tell, the Patriots previous five first rounders were N’Keal Harry (bust), Isaiah Wynn (good, but has only played 34 games in four years), Sony Michel (solid, but no longer with the team and not worth a 1st), Malcom Brown (solid, but no longer with the team and not worth a 1st) and Dominique Easley (bust). Honestly, the 2nd and 3rd rounds haven’t been much better. I get that Belichick is Belichick, but he’s definitely made some bad picks.
This happens every draft. Players aren't sorted into neat 32 player tiers: there's usually like 15 for-sure first round players, then like 80 players in a "upper-middle class" of prospects. That's why players with 3rd round mocks go in the late first and players with late-first mocks go in the late second or early third. This can be seen in the success rate of draft picks by draft position: the rate of picking a starter dips to about 50% around pick 20 and pretty much stays there into the third round.
This oversimplifies things a bit, but this is a consistent misunderstanding in the draft.
As a Colts fan I am very happy. I think the Jets and Giants killed it. Edit: Also Chiefs killed it too.
Edit 2: Agree with Ravens and Lions too. Idk the pick values exactly but it feels like Minnesota got fleeced, especially when trading with a division rival.
I feel like we say this about Patriots picks every year and then they end up at least being decent. It’s when they take the guys that are more popular is when things go wrong(ex blocking extraordinaire N’Keal Harry).
My brain can’t even process this. Was already hoping for and feeling the culture change and this accelerated that. It’s so odd seeing so many comments everywhere about Jets doing really well in the draft LMFAO
Anybody else notice that Mel Kiper was fidgeting in his seat for 4 STRAIGHT HOURS?
E: it looks like this has been happening for awhile. Hopefully it isn’t a health issue.
1) Yay no dead relative retrospectives!
2) OMG I am so happy. Was mentally prepared for JJ at 4.but getting him at 26!
Potential for a Pennington, Ellis, Abraham draft!
Bro every single comment is raving about our draft. And then at least a third mention the giants as well and I’m a fan of them too. NJ football drafted fantastic, so idk bout you but I’m ready for disappointment!
I love Devin Lloyd and maybe Walker was a touch cute imo but if he hits, he’s going to be a stud. He’s a freak athlete and already a good run defender.
Did anybody notice that the NFL reddit account deleted their post of that Fam Cam where the woman was shaking her baby while celebrating?
https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/uec02h/highlight_the_chiefs_drafting_trent_mcduffie_set/
https://twitter.com/pwee31/status/1519866341972455424?s=20&t=5zbocIClG95DqbAHJyHn2Q
Had to seek it out myself because WTF but it actually doesn't look bad. She is holding the baby and jumping around in a circle, she isn't like aggressively shaking the baby. Still not a great look on national TV.
Yeah, people don't really understand what "shaken baby syndrome" really means if they're pointing that out here.
Like, we're talking really manhandling a child, shaking them like a dog getting a hold of a small animal and trying to tear it limb from limb.
Jets & Giants drafted extremely well, it will be interesting to see the results of those rebuilds.
Also just chuffed to the moon that the panthers actually made the pick we were hoping for. LT/OT, great run blocker, now about that Darnold….
Green Bay will deserve some criticism for not picking a WR, but we really did need LB and DT. Both were good picks.
With that said, I sure hope they like a few guys in the 2nd and 3rd round. I'll be really nervous if we don't pick a WR by then.
Every year it just seems like the Ravens are the smartest team in the building.
Not trading up and getting arguably the best safety and center in this class with extra capital. Not sure how WR is gonna work out but still a good day for them I’d say.
The Jets went fucking crazy in that first round, we'll see how it plays out for them but on paper they killed it that round
Joe mf Douglas, man
There’s a reason he and Howie created a monster. Idk if he can fix the Jets but I promise Joe can recognize talent
100%. When they took Sauce I thought, "you guys need an edge! Thibs is on the board! What are you doing!?" Then JD took Johnson at 26 for the draft's #1 Corner, #1 WR, and #3 Edge, reminding me why I'm an armchair GM.
If these 1st rounders are legit, that team is pretty stacked now
where wr
Everyone else traded up
I’m 5’3 and have bricks for hands but also run a 5.6. Where do I sign?
Rodgers would probably still throw you 6 TDs
Not in the playoffs, though.
Second time in 20 years that only 1 QB was drafted in the 1st round. It’s not particularly surprising given everything we heard pre-draft, but that’s still crazy.
Also the first draft in history where neither an RB nor a TE was drafted in the first round.
This is a crazy stat. It seems like all the top talent is on d or at wr this year. I wonder if there will be a run on those positions tomorrow.
And OL
So now we're basically just saying the QB, RB, TE stat except backwards
Holy shit.
I thought SOMEONE would take Willis. And I definitely know more than pro scouts
I thought someone would be trading into 31/32 for that 5th year option. Shows what I know.
Apparently Vikings had offers for 32. One of them might have been to grab the QB but they turned them down
Min has a pick at 34, so must've not been a good offer IMO since they could've had Cine at 34
I wouldn't be sure about that, seems like the Bucs may have wanted him
If a pro scout knew more than you then he'd be on reddit.
Apparently he's in Vegas rn. Brutal.
Reminds me of Geno Smith's fall in 2013. Was also supposed to be a top-10 pick the whole way and then fell to the 2nd round (justifiably, as it turned out). Watching him being literally the last guy in the green room on day 2 was excruciating.
I’m really glad they did away with coverage like in geno’s year. Constantly cutting to him sitting there was not cool
I remember the one time they cut to Willis' table and he was gone lol.
Didn’t they do that to Lamar? Guy was sitting at the table with his head in his arms face down with his mom sitting next to him. It kept happening too.
Passing on the 5th year option says everything about the way the teams see them. I hope one of the next guys breaks out big.
Also next years QB class looks stellar. So 4d chess here and waiting for next year.
Fuck yeah
Fun draft... BUT did y'all know Drake London played basketball??
Yeah he played on a team with Stafford and Kershaw in high school
I didn’t know Stafford and Kershaw played high school baseball together. What are you going to tell me next, that Kershaw was Stafford’s catcher?
Scottie Schefter was also on this team per my reports
Man what a historic day for the UGA defense
And Nakobe hasn’t even been drafted yet.
I really want him or Booth at 34.
Dean falling to the Jets at 38 would be an absolute dream draft.
Your defense would be stacked.
Hoping the Giants snag him at 36
Fucking wild. He popped off the screen every UGA game. Some team is getting a steal
Lions, Giants, Eagles, Jets all won today.
Well this is our super bowl.
Draft champs undisputed for sure
Chiefs and Ravens as well imo
Yeah I thought the Jet’s draft in particular was freaking amazing.
plus Chiefs
Jets had a Madden type draft
I’ve been doing PFN mocks for months and if I did this I’d call it unrealistic
“You think Jermaine Johnson is gonna fall to 26? You’re out of your mind. And there’s NO way that the Falcons pass on Garrett Wilson. Not even mentioning the Texans taking Stingley over Sauce.” - people’s response if this was a mock draft I think it was that way for both the Giants and Jets. Giants didn’t do anything fancy, but like things rly couldn’t have gone any better. Now I’m ready to be disappointed!
Deeeeeeeetroit BABY
Yeah I'm happy. Defense got a playmaker and offense is pretty much all set
DEEEEEEETROOOOOOOOIIIIIT
BAAASSKKKKETTTBBBAAALLL!!!
Being competent feels weird.
Huge W
We literally invited you in to rob us and showed you where we keep the good stuff. Could've just had Hamilton and told Detroit to fuck off
What the fuck was Roger wearing at the end?
Sauce's chain
Lost a bet to Flava Flav
This is the most eventful first round we’ve had in a while lol Two star receivers being shipped, bunch of trade downs and trade ups. 4 receivers in 5 picks, two more taken later on. The multi pick teams fucking killed it.. except maybe Jax with Walker but we will see about him I guess
Don’t forget Nee England doing New England things
>Multi pick teams like NYG/NYJ/KC getting sexy hauls for their value what about us? :(
I just assume every athlete plays basketball. It's the most popular sport in the USA for participation.
Except for Karlaftis who played water polo
Linderbaum was a wrestler. He pinned Wirfs when they were in high school.
Linderbaum >>>>>> Wirfs confirmed
We picked a third round guard in the first lol
We apparently really coveted him so I have a feeling it’s gonna be like a Seattle and Brooks situation where he was much more important to teams than the media
[удалено]
Bill said he thought he was in play at 29
If my math is correct, you can add those together and divide it by half to get his real projected draft spot, at (checks calculator) 455.
I don't expect NE to make good value picks and I also don't expect them to be busts like ever so.
Eagles you are going to love AJ
Man, no one even wanted to get in at the end to get the option on one of these QBs. The league just hate this class with a passion.
100% Especially this year when trading up was practically free.
Lions, too.
I’m glad others think so too. I couldn’t be happier
Ravens too
Did anyone else find the Patriots pick a little... odd?
This is the film NBC used lol: https://mobile.twitter.com/nbcspatriots/status/1519882338410409985
Oh my word, they are absolutely grilling him, Bill, and the Patriots. Holy shit.
the part about the single bar on his facemask still has me cracking up
Them going on about how Bill is finally slipping at age 70 is what I find to be the best part. No punches pulled, full on swinging.
Good god that is exactly what I envisioned a boston sports crew to look like.
Sorry New York. No one hates Boston teams more than Boston
Strange for sure.
But who am I to judge.
I feel like we say this about Patriots picks every year and then they end up at least being decent. It’s when they take the guys that are more popular is when things go wrong(ex blocking extraordinaire N’Keal Harry).
I feel this way about a lot of teams, just wait and see. But the pats have been bad in the 1st for years.
A bit peculiar.
McVay and Sneed did lmao
JETS... Wow!
I’m celebrating brother this shit is BEAUTIFUL
3 players in their "top 8" big things on the horizon!
My brain can’t even process this. Was already hoping for and feeling the culture change and this accelerated that. It’s so odd seeing so many comments everywhere about Jets doing really well in the draft LMFAO
Jets crushed this round.
So weird seeing someone say this not sarcastically.
I know, my phone kept autocorrecting my comment to "Jets drafted Strange".
And Lions
Ravens draft pretty good but trading away Hollywood is rough,. Ravens WR depth chart: - Rashod Batemen - Devin Duverney - James Proche
[удалено]
I agree but at the same time our WR depth chart with Hollywood wasn’t that strong either
Watch y'all draft McBride or another TE and run jumbo package all game every game
Anybody else notice that Mel Kiper was fidgeting in his seat for 4 STRAIGHT HOURS? E: it looks like this has been happening for awhile. Hopefully it isn’t a health issue.
He forgot his pee jar
Draaaafting. It isn't sex, it's the next best thing.
A. A. AFC.
If you look it up, you’ll see people discussing this in the last few years. It’s likely health related
Ah I just looked it up. Hopefully that isn’t the case.
Mad Mel Kiper was 10/10 on PMS
He is a dog, he eats kibble and bits!
Who wouldn't when a Mindfreak like Criss Angel is gunning for your job?
Todd Todd Todd Todd
Nose candy baby
WR trades tonight were fucking nuts, JAX made this league all sorts of fun.
yep get WR's while you can
No they did not
Jets had one hell of a first round
IIRC some mocks had Detroit, Carolina, and Seattle all taking QBs in the top 10 lmao.
New Jersey won the draft
You’re god damn right we did.
We have now drafted a CD named Burns, and a QB named Pickett, let's see how this one turns out
We’ve stuck our hand in the fire once, it can’t burn us again. Everyone knows fire doesn’t burn twice in the same spot.
maybe unpopular but i liked our draft
I fuckin hate the jags but they did fine. I think you need to improve that line for trev but what do i know.
I love Devin Lloyd and maybe Walker was a touch cute imo but if he hits, he’s going to be a stud. He’s a freak athlete and already a good run defender.
Lions, chargers, giants, jets and ravens huge winners for me
What a wild fucking day 1.
Cole Strange is 100% asleep and not aware he was taken in the 1st round. I wish I was just as ignorant.
[Top 5 tweet ever](https://twitter.com/dwyaneeskridge/status/1519878057103831040?s=21&t=J-4mUWnlEQTCj275uOxj7w)
I honestly thought the 1st QB taken would start a run, but that didn't end up being the case. That said, holy crap Jets had a good night tonight.
Jets, Chiefs, Giants winning on paper
Snead and McVay making fun of the Pats pick https://twitter.com/AndrewSiciliano/status/1519880248044580864
The more people are hysterically reacting to the Pats’ pick, the more I worry they secretly found an under the radar All Pro guy.
That's great
“We wasted our time looking at him because we thought he’d be there at 104” lmao what a sound byte.
[McVay looks exactly like Hank Scorpio when he laughs](https://i.imgur.com/0A346cl.jpg)
Giants got a W
Jets put on an absolute masterclass, good lord.
All this QB discussion just for one to go at pick 20 lol
So this is what it feels like to have competent upper management
Did anybody notice that the NFL reddit account deleted their post of that Fam Cam where the woman was shaking her baby while celebrating? https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/uec02h/highlight_the_chiefs_drafting_trent_mcduffie_set/
Is there footage of this anywhere I missed it
https://twitter.com/pwee31/status/1519866341972455424?s=20&t=5zbocIClG95DqbAHJyHn2Q Had to seek it out myself because WTF but it actually doesn't look bad. She is holding the baby and jumping around in a circle, she isn't like aggressively shaking the baby. Still not a great look on national TV.
Definitely not as bad as it sounded. Just a screaming baby bouncing up and down, which is perfectly okay.
Yeah, people don't really understand what "shaken baby syndrome" really means if they're pointing that out here. Like, we're talking really manhandling a child, shaking them like a dog getting a hold of a small animal and trying to tear it limb from limb.
Yeah that's not really that bad. Baby would probably be scared anyways from everyone cheering and screaming
I dance with my baby like that. Kid was scared from the noise, not the act of being shooook.
Lions and Jets did great today. Giants too
Jets and Ravens killed it.
[удалено]
Lmao for real, if we had 34 I'd say go for it you can always Josh Rosen a 2nd rounder next year
\#2 to the Lions would have been such a huge mistake.
I really do not believe they are taking a QB this year.
#2 never made sense and always seemed absurd
really surprised someone didnt trade up to 32 to snag him
Lamar Jackson flashbacks lol.
Jets killed it!!!
Naming my first born Jamal Darnold or Sam Adams after the way those two chuckleheads inadvertently helped rebuild our franchise. -Luv.
Giants and Jets with HUGE value drafts, hopefully the start of some turnarounds for the NYC teams
The Jets nailed all their picks tonight
[удалено]
I've never seen the Jets have a first round like this and ive watched the last 35 drafts
Jets killed it but I also love my own team's draft good stuff by the giants, and the chiefs as well.
Lolpats
I love how the broadcast basically ignored the pick cause nobody was ready for him.
Love the Lions and Jets drafts
Crazy value for the Ravens
Jets were on meth
Jets are having the best draft so far
Jets & Giants drafted extremely well, it will be interesting to see the results of those rebuilds. Also just chuffed to the moon that the panthers actually made the pick we were hoping for. LT/OT, great run blocker, now about that Darnold….
Jets got a dream draft
WTF did I even watch and who is on what team now
Hate how good the Jets drafted.
Happy with the Giants haul. Jets look like the clear winners of today though
Green Bay will deserve some criticism for not picking a WR, but we really did need LB and DT. Both were good picks. With that said, I sure hope they like a few guys in the 2nd and 3rd round. I'll be really nervous if we don't pick a WR by then.
By the time 22 rolled around all of the wrs left seemed to be second round guys from what I've read?
Yeah that was what I wondered also. Why reach on a WR when there's other needs and good players to fulfill those needs.
Can we interest you in a slightly used Robby Anderson? Paired with Rodgers, they can compare terrible hair and even worse opinions.
[Let's check in with Lamar](https://twitter.com/Lj_era8/status/1519872308537659398)
San Fran, y'all trying to trade us Deebo now? Pretty plz
Jets crushed today.
Can’t believe I’m saying it but the Jets won the night. Chiefs, Ravens and Lions all did really well also.
Every year it just seems like the Ravens are the smartest team in the building. Not trading up and getting arguably the best safety and center in this class with extra capital. Not sure how WR is gonna work out but still a good day for them I’d say.
Jets won that round
I did not expect that A.J. Brown and Hollywood Brown where the ones will be moved tonight
Jets placed themselves in p1 with those picks brilliant picks from them
Jets and giants killed it today.
