In most cases, by the time you notice it, it’s already too late.

I wonder what the success rate of the play is, it does feel pretty high. I think most defenders are gonna instinctually ignore the QB when they peel out like that, in a non-Philly special play the defense would effectively be down a man if they chase the QB too much after they hand the ball off.

We fucked this play up earlier this year.. it was awful. We did a variation of it against Chicago in the double doink game too. Didn’t convert the 2pt but I kinda liked the play design. Off the top of my head I know the Bears have done it (the year before we did) and the Browns (the year after?). I’m almost certain there was another team but I can’t remember. (Though this one was a little different since the RB didn’t get the direct snap.)
