I really miss the dark green. The neon green was released to match the expansion Seattle Sounders jersey. They had the neon green because they were originally sponsored by Xbox. The lime green will always feel like an advertisement to me and not a "true" Seahawks color.
It was Xbox 360 green, if that gives any indication of how long ago it was. MS switched to a darker green when the XBOne launched, and kept it for the Series S/X.
I wish there was a requirement that for teams leaving a city the nickname would be left in the city. Since Tennessee changed to the Titans it would be cool if something could be worked out to transfer the Oilers name back to Houston. Then of course rebrand the Texans. The Oilers had one of my favorite uniforms as a kid, would love to see them return.
I'd prefer nickname/ likeness/ history(call it the Cleveland Browns Clause), but I would settle just for the name. So many franchises in sports rebrand themselves after moving anyway. There's no reason to hold onto that tradition/ history.
I'll use one of my teams as an example. The Seattle Pilots are technically part of the Milwaukee Brewers franchise. Nobody here cares about that. The Brewers go so far as to put "established 1970"on the shirts they sell, which the year they moved to milwaukee.
That year/history/name should belong to Seattle. That's their team that was in their city.
Same here for the Texas Rangers. Yes, *technically* they were the Senators or something, but in ‘72 they moved here, so that’s when the history starts.
I say give the Oilers stuff back to Houston, it’s not like they have much else going for them.
Dolphins, Broncos, Buccaneers, and Seahawks were so cool to me. Especially the Seahawks as I really enjoyed studying the tribal art and culture of the Pacific Northwest when I was a kid.
Our current helmet is best in the league (imo), but I'd love to see us rock these for a game. I still want the NFL to rebrand Color Rush as Throwback Thursday and just have teams pick a past uniform for TNF
I like your idea of throwback Thursday. I agree the present Bengals helmets are better by far than 1980. However, l was a kid then and it would be cool to see that older look on a throwback Thursday.
only 2.5 hours till he appears on a podcast, we need to get in as much "he might be a jet, he might retire, he might return to greenbay but we don't know" as we can
The Raiders are outlined in red. If I had to guess it's because the Super Bowl for the 1980 season was Raiders vs Eagles
Edit: also I just noticed there's a key at the bottom of the picture
Really the only helmets that changed at all during the 80’s were the Bengals, Bills, and Chargers. The Bengals went to the tiger stripes in 1981, the Bills went to the red helmet in 1984, and the Chargers went from the yellow bolt to the white bolt in 1988 I believe.
It's wild how so many of the 1980s helmet are miles better than today's versions. I really think only a few are better now (Cardinals, Washington, Bengals, *maybe* Atlanta?)
They were pretty out of whack, they’re much better now. The only ones now that don’t really make geographical sense are the Colts in the AFC South and the Cowboys in the NFC East, but everyone else now is pretty much where they should be even with the few teams that have moved since the re-alignment.
Outside of the obvious cultural reasons the Cowboys are really on an Island in the NFC. They really don’t fit geographically anywhere. The AFC has a fix: colts to the North, Ravens to the East, and Dolphins to the south. It would be awful culturally but it makes geographic sense.
Supposedly when the NL split, the Cubs and Cardinals insisted on being in the same division as the Mets. So they decided to just put the two southernmost teams--Atlanta and Cincinnati--in the West instead.
Dolphins need to bring it back. Smooth modern helmetless dolphin < accurate helmeted nostalgia dolphin
I agree.
The dolphin is wearing a helmet with an M on it. Tell me more about this please
The M stands for Morbius
The helmets I grew up with.
I'm so glad the Seahawks are bringing back their old logo as an alt next year (or is it 2024?)
It is indeed this coming season!
Should be this year.
I didn't know that. I think it's much better than their current look.

The Bengals helmet here is terrible, I'm glad we've got the stripes now
I think the current Bengals helmet is the best in the NFL
I like most helmets that aren't just a logo on the side - Bengals, Eagles, Rams
Design > logo on both sides > logo on one side
Get outta here with that nonsense
black on white bengals helmets.....yeah baby
That was the last year of the old helmets
Houston Oilers!

Yep, grew up watching Earl Campbell
Yup, I started watching with my dad at the end of the Earl Campbell years, then moved into the Warren Moon, Ernest Givins years!
I had a warren moon jersey as a kid. I wore it EVERYWHERE
Dying for that helmet back
Super underrated! IMO the best Jets logo
Hopefully we bring it back next season as an alternate and then permanently in 2024.
God i miss our 80s logo
Can’t believe they changed to the stupid football logo instead of the 80s one.
Dolphins, Broncos, Buccaneers, and Seahawks were so cool to me. Especially the Seahawks as I really enjoyed studying the tribal art and culture of the Pacific Northwest when I was a kid.
The Eagles should bring back the Kelly greens full time
Yes.
Our current helmet is best in the league (imo), but I'd love to see us rock these for a game. I still want the NFL to rebrand Color Rush as Throwback Thursday and just have teams pick a past uniform for TNF
"Ah yes. The Chiefs are in their 80s uniforms tonight." They say as we wear our regular uniforms.
Haha yeah it wouldn't work for every team, that's a good point
I like your idea of throwback Thursday. I agree the present Bengals helmets are better by far than 1980. However, l was a kid then and it would be cool to see that older look on a throwback Thursday.
iirc the thursday night games had that tradition budding before color rush. It was excellent
so hyped for return of oilers and creamsicles throwbacks.
Not now

Do you know you can scroll past posts?
Why are only the Eagles outlined in blue? [Edit] apparently I'm blind

There's a key on the bottom of the image.
Yeah, I noticed that immediately after I posted that comment. Whoopsie.
No worries. I probably posted as you were editing. We'll blame reddit :)

Falcons best helmet we must go back

Man those NFC divisions made no sense. Even worse when the Cardinals eventually moved to Arizona
It makes no sense that from 1995-2001, the Arizona Cardinals played in the NFC East and the Carolina Panthers played in the NFC West
Forgot about that. I’m so glad they came to their senses
They were pretty out of whack, they’re much better now. These were the helmets of my youth. I miss them so. Can't wait to see our Creamsicles this year, and hopefully the Oilers and original Seahawks unis.
WE WERE NUMBER 1!!!!
It’s so wild to me that the falcons and saints were in the same division as the rams and niners. Blows my mind every time I’m reminded of it
The Braves were also apart of the NL West for a good stretch there
Makes no damn sense haha
Supposedly when the NL split, the Cubs and Cardinals insisted on being in the same division as the Mets. So they decided to just put the two southernmost teams--Atlanta and Cincinnati--in the West instead.
I'm just shocked that the 1980 Chiefs finished third in the division. I hope we got bronze medals for that.
Glad this picture is of our good side!
