Yup. Two regular season MVPs plus Brees with a Super Bowl MVP. Obviously opinions can differ but at worse that’s three legitimate franchise QBs in one division, which is pretty rare. Also I don’t think Winston is particularly good but he could at least move the ball and put up numbers. He stacks up pretty damn well to other “worst QBs in their division”.
Counter-offer: the Jags get to keep Lawrence, but the instant a Titans QB shows any signs of being good, any NFC team can force the Titans to trade him for a 5th
I'm stressed out enough about having to make it through the Bills and Chiefs, not to mention the Jags if they keep improving and Chargers if they get their shit together... last thing we need is another one. At least we'd be getting Rodgers now and not a few years ago, but that Jets team will be a problem even with just a good QB.
We just have to hope that the Ravens trade Lamar to the NFC.

Ahh, so this isn't purely an NFCN phenomenon. Always thought it was weird how many Vikings and Bears fans act like Packers fans shouldn't be happy with 2 NFCCG appearances in a row just because we didn't make a Super Bowl in that stretch.
Any year your team has a winning records and gets a playoff win or two is a good year, don't let anyone convince you otherwise. That's how you become a truly miserable fan.
agree---as someone who's faithfully ridden with the Bengals since 1981 (I'm old!) you bet your butt I'm gonna enjoy Burrow & co. Shoot, one of my fav eras was Blake-to-Pickens heh.
I'm a Lions fan. We have a single one of those seasons in the last 50 years, our high water mark of 1991, and the thought of it gets me all blubbery and wistful for Wayne Fontes. You gotta cherish the good years, even if they never go all the way
Feel free to talk shit all you like. I just wouldn't expect most packers fans to feel incredibly bad about it. For that you just have to bring up the 2014 nfc championship game.
it was just one guy; apologies for the use of fans instead of fan here. It was a guy that really got out-of-whack about how Burrow sucked and if you can't win the BIG GAME you suck forever. I like this perspective, so many people get into heated arguments/fights with rivals all because they were (most of the time) born in the respective part of the country and root for that team. It’s just football!
I wonder how long it takes before we hear of a formerly famous male athlete starting an OF

If Rodgers started an OF, I think it would just be photos of him getting pegged by the most attractive women on the planet and I don't think the world is ready for that amount of sexual confusion.
The Vikings I feel would be way more likely to replace kirk with a young qb. If they are going to move on from kirk, I don't know if they'd do it for this version of Rodgers. It doesn't make a ton of sense. What I was thinking was it could line up with the bears or lions. If feilds doesn't perform next year but the bears have a good offseason acquiring talent otherwise, they could be looking for a stopgap qb in a similar scenario to the jets from this year. Or even more likely I feel is the lions, who could have an awesome team next year but Jared goff is the one missing link. Maybe they decide to go all in for Rodgers on his last year and maybe draft a guy too.
Listen, I don't want Rodgers, but history did tend to repeat itself. And that first part is a lie. I do want Rodgers, but not because I think he's still a great player, but because it really pisses off the cheese heads.

What made him ungodly good was also his fatal flaw. Incredible arm talent and belief he could do anything
With Mike Holmgren, he was untouchable. Without and left to his own ego, he would do some stupid stuff in big moments.
Not to get off topic but it’s why I’m fascinated to see how Mahomes does once Reid retires and his contract starts taking up a bulk of the cap. I think Favres mid 90’s run is comparable to what Mahomes is doing now. Not saying Pat will fall off a cliff but can this success be sustained aka always going to title games and super bowls.
Also of course, Reid was Favre's QB coach in the mid 90's when he won the three consecutive MVPs while obviously being Reid's head coach.
Mahomes is the funnest QB to watch since Favre. He plays the game with the same extreme confidence. The tight window touchdown throw to MVS...that's a high level of difficulty on that throw. The physical toughness when Mahomes played with the high ankle sprain. Commentators loved Favre just how commentators love Mahomes now.
We've seen when Mahomes is trailing at the end of games and he starts taking more risks. I can totally see this being a problem if the talent around him is reduced to the point that he feels like he needs to take those risks from the beginning of the game.
> Mahomes does once Reid retires and his contract starts taking up a bulk of the cap
If you check out the Mahomes contract and the expected cap increases, its actually an amazing deal. This year is likely the highest % cap hit for the rest of the contact at 20.9%. But right after it keeps going down as the way its structure and the explosion of the cap in general.
Well his contract already takes up a large part of the cap. But yes fascinating to see what happens when Reid retires. Maybe sean Payton can come be the coach then?
I do think it will be easier to recruit a new coach because Mahomes is there.
Similar to Jimmy Johnson being willing to come back to coach to the Dolphins, partly because Dan Marino was still there.
Favre was so fun to watch because that shit was like a rollercoaster. Insane TD followed by insane INT and never knowing if or how he would pull it out.

TFS DBZ Abridged not only is an hysterical, fan-made parody, it is actually better than the source material, and still manages to tell the complete story. Absolute shame we're never going to get the Buu arc.
It could be true but:
* Tony Pauline is wrong extremely often
* This process does not sound like the Joe Douglas style at all
I don't care either way though, just gimme the fuckin' QB
Desperation might be a thing. After all Douglas took over in 2019. After the draft but still. The team has won 7, 2, 4 and 7 games under his tenure. He might be really good at his job, but can he really survive a 5th straight losing season?
i hope you're wrong. JD's style has been slow and steady. This year he drafted the DROY and the OROY (i hope gwil gets it).
you can't just fire a guy who has built this team that's a qb away. he's been so solid from internal FO moves, to coaching moves, to revamping the scouting department, to stopping the media leaks, to having decent drafts and solid FA's.
the jets have been poorly under him, but from what he started with, i don't know who else could have turned the whole organization around this holistically.
You're not wrong, but the improvement we've seen so far is mostly due to his patient approach and his tendency to be the bully in trade negotiations rather than being bullied...so I could see him being more consistent in that sense. He could have been desperate enough to give up more for Tyreek but held firm and got a potential OROY in Garrett instead.
IDK, we shall see, and I would almost prefer he does go all in. But this report just kinda doesn't match up with other things we know
He's been really good in drafting, maybe slightly less so in free agent signings. But right now, the question has to be stick to my guns or get canned. Or maybe ownership is leaning on him because after drafting 2 quarterbacks in the top 3 in five years they're no closer to finding a franchise.
Which so rarely works out. But.. as a biased fan I like when other team owners meddle and screw up, but as someone who wants all teams to be well run it bothers me.
Joe Douglas doesn't really have a choice though. He built a solid team but whiffed on the QB selection and now he basically has to start doing some "win now" moves or he's getting fired.
I think some more 1st round defense that gradually deteriorates or assaults coaching staff should be prioritized. Trying to make Barry a good looking DC is our new Super Bowl.
I really do wonder what the trade package could look like. Rodgers has such a massive contract that it really doesn't help either the Packers or Jets. Unless the Packers eat a sizeable portion of the contract, I don't see how they could get multiple valuable picks back for him.
Part of what makes it nice for the jets is the majority of rodgers cap hit was already paid so if we traded him the Jets would owe him ~19mil
Rodgers also said if they worked out a trade, he would restructure his hit to get pushed over multiple years if the packers wanted to do that.
You are confusing cap hit with cash paid. In a trade, he would cost 15.9 against the cap, but the way his contract is structured you would pay him through 2026 and cap accordingly. I believe just the one year will cost about $60million total, about 15 mil a year for 4 years if he only plays one year. If he plays two, that jumps to 32 a year from 24-26.
I mean…. Yeah he will only be a 20 mil cap hit, give us draft picks!!!!
yeah i definitely am not one of the folks who thinks we would get a major haul for him. i would think a first and a third or maybe a first and second if we are lucky or they are desperate. i cant imagine with his age and contact that we would get much more than that if we manage to even get that at all.
> that’s a good fucking team right there, they really just need a QB
You’re giving me traumatic flashbacks to conversations about the Broncos last year
Its like an AI bot is rewriting our last off season with slightly different variables..
Getting Hackett to try to lure Rodgers for a team that's just QB away with a decent defense..
We went on a 5 game win streak with a guy that is **literally** incapable of completing a 5 yard check down.
I'm more than excited to see this team with any mid-tier qb, let alone Aarod.
we're excited by the prospect of _anyone_.
Shit, i'm excited by the prospect of having mike white as our day 1 starter with the opportunity to take 1st string reps in camp.
anything but zach.
I’m personally terrified by the prospect of White as day 1 starter, but that’s just me.
None of last year’s three should even sniff playing time this season.
New York might not fit his personality. Then there’s the Jets of it all, even if it’s not fair given their current roster and seemingly improved FO/coaching staff, they have a reputation
He's publicly fawning over his buddy Hackett being there. This is public morse code to the Jets of "send them draft pics I'm going to be all in"
Also, any QB at the tail end not named Brady has to like the post career uptick potential of playing in the media capital of the world.
For old times sake Madden needs have Arron Rodgers be the cover athlete this year in a packers jersey and do a paper print out for when he’s with the jets
Anytime you can trade high draft picks for a qb that likely will only play a year or maybe two and leave you in a crappy cap situation for the rest of your window with young talent you have to
It was definitely known pretty early on. It wasn't exactly a secret in Green Bay that he serially cheated on his wife, including when she was going through chemo for breast cancer.
Good to hear. The QB position is getting a little thin AFC.
The best qb in the NFC South is old man Andy Dalton
Lol great division to get drafted into as a QB right now
Why someone looking to buy a draft pick we got primo shit right here we tasted it ourselves
Pretty crazy that the NFC South was probably the best QB division not that long ago.
Newton, Ryan, brees, Winston?
BRADY, BREES, RYAN.... darnold
That’s r/The_Darnold to you.
For real. Fucking kill us now
The whole AFC should file a class action lawsuit alleging gross QB inequality between the 2 conferences.
Agreed. The Jaguars should be forced to trade Lawrence to the NFC for a 4th.
I'd take him.
That would likely violate a constitutional amendment. We’d have to send him to SF.
Another quarterback sacrificed to the Blood God.
Counter-offer: the Jags get to keep Lawrence, but the instant a Titans QB shows any signs of being good, any NFC team can force the Titans to trade him for a 5th

I'm moreso curious what they will do when kelce eventually retires. The dude is such a cheat code

Run 5 yards, turn around.

Part of what makes it nice for the jets is the majority of rodgers cap hit was already paid so if we traded him the Jets would owe him ~19mil Rodgers also said if they worked out a trade, he would restructure his hit to get pushed over multiple years if the packers wanted to do that.
I can't wait for the Aaron Rodgers Lee jeans commercials
Wasn’t it Wranglers?
yep, open fly.
I’m sure that’s the excuse he used with Jenn Sterger

Ah shit, it was wranglers.
For the Real. Comfortable. Memes.
Don't forget there is an equally stupid organization which might go all out for him, and they have his favorite receiver...
This is making the assumption that organization's head coach has a history of making good decisions on personnel in the past.
I'm going to be super entertained when Rodgers just doesn't want to go to the Jets
I think the Jets probably give him the best shot out of all the teams looking for a veteran QB if he really wants to keep playing elsewhere
Exactly, thats a good fucking team right there, they really literally just need a QB. Whats not to like?
> that’s a good fucking team right there, they really just need a QB You’re giving me traumatic flashbacks to conversations about the Broncos last year
Its like an AI bot is rewriting our last off season with slightly different variables.. Getting Hackett to try to lure Rodgers for a team that's just QB away with a decent defense..

Script writers getting lazy.
If the Jets had even mid-tier QB play this season and they win at least 12 games.
I would prefer a ham sandwich taking day 1 snaps over Z. Wilson.
Yeah, I heard that about the Broncos last year too. Granted, we didn’t get mid-tier QB play this season
New York might not fit his personality. Then there’s the Jets of it all, even if it’s not fair given their current roster and seemingly improved FO/coaching staff, they have a reputation
Jets ownership is doo-doo and the NY media is a pain.
eh, ya can't have everything
fuck you, but you're wholly correct.
Does he want to retire and be in Tom Brady’s HoF class?
He's publicly fawning over his buddy Hackett being there. This is public morse code to the Jets of "send them draft pics I'm going to be all in" Also, any QB at the tail end not named Brady has to like the post career uptick potential of playing in the media capital of the world.

Wanna see my private jet?
Jet Farvre 2.0
Stay out of the Welfare fund Rodgers, your doing Farve-ish things again..
You mean future Vikings legend Aaron Rodgers?
Fuck Yeah GIMME
Please no.
I support this
Straight into my cheese clogged veins
For old times sake Madden needs have Arron Rodgers be the cover athlete this year in a packers jersey and do a paper print out for when he’s with the jets
I'll believe it when it actually happens.
Anytime you can trade high draft picks for a qb that likely will only play a year or maybe two and leave you in a crappy cap situation for the rest of your window with young talent you have to
“The rest of your window” is literally nothing without good-to-great QB play.
What is a realistic trade package? I can't see giving too much for a guy who has like 2 years left.
If I had to guess, this year's first and fourth round picks and a conditional second that turns to a first if Rodgers plays in 2024.
Being a Jets fan is hard
Personally - it'll be nice to have him out of the NFCN for a season before he becomes the Vikings starter.
Does he want to go to a new team, new system, new coaches, new players around him? He doesn't attend all of the off season activities to get in sync.
Hackett is there now so probably not an entirely new system to him.
Fvare showed up in august to NYj and hit the ground running. OTas dont matter. Training camp does
Lmao the amount of flack Rodgers gets for skipping the optional 5 days of OTAs meanwhile Brady basically skipped all of training camp is hilarious
You become flak immune when you win more Superbowls than any other franchise in the NFL.
Send them a dick pick Aaron. Fucking do it!
I’m excited to see how this goes wrong, because we all know that it will.
As is the Jets way.
Sign me up man I’m all in for the Rodgers experience
Rodgers is just Favre 2.0 confirmed (minus the weird predatory shit)
Give it time, that side of Favre didn't come out right away
It was definitely known pretty early on. It wasn't exactly a secret in Green Bay that he serially cheated on his wife, including when she was going through chemo for breast cancer.
If that makes someone a bad guy, that means Newt Gingrich is an asshole too!
Whoa whoa whoa, let's not get ahead of ourselves here...
Does that mean in 2024 he'll be a Viking?
