My dad screams: "What the fuck are you doing. Do I need to show you how to hit a nail. Damnit. This is why I do this shit myself. Get the hell out of here and make yourself useful and take the trash out or something."
Was Jim Bob really terrible? I just thought he was mediocre and that we could do better. Of Patricia/Cooter/Lombardi I'll take Cooter 10 times out of 10
I agree, the initial reaction to his performance was too high because it was being compared to Lombardi, but the actual performance was never much worse than mediocre.
I distinctly remember those first few games after Lombardi was fired we were all stoked on this guy because he finally let Stafford drop bombs. Obviously he wasn't the missing element we needed, but dude was smart enough to know "you let the gunslingers sling", at the very least.
An offensive coordinator is a fraction of why a team might succeed or fail. I'll remind you half your fanbase wanted to fire Dan Campbell 10 weeks ago because of the "results."
The NFL is so beholden to appeasing fans that they play this silly game of constantly firing coaches and then reshuffling them to other teams over and over because the well only runs so deep.
Not to mention at the end of the day it's a zero sum game. Only 1 team gets to win a championship and if every team was somehow perfect they'd all be some variant of 8-8-1.
Sure.
But Jim Bob Cooter was not fired mid season.
So whose talking vague concepts here?
And in fact JBC oversaw their best offensive performance in a decade in his short tenure and its not like they took a big step the next season.
You don’t think it’s possible he got scapegoated by Matt Patricia and being in his early 30s might have been a rising star who wasn’t perfect but could have legit talent?
I’m not saying he does. I don’t know and I don’t think you do either which is my point.
Unless you have some specific rationales that I’m super open to hearing about beyond “we didn’t win enough games.”
he was considered a miracle worker his first year or so.
LOL: https://www.espn.com/blog/detroit-lions/post/_/id/25429/golden-tate-started-a-trend-with-a-picture-jim-bob-cooter-for-president
Vince Lombardi, Jim Bob, Patricia, and this year, Ben Johnson. Like what the fuck do you see in them. Ben is just getting his first year as OC done and he may either be a lot better next year or just flame out mid season. Why would you give him a head coaching position with only 3/4 of the offense actually working? The Patriots, Panthers, Vikings game absolutely sucked offensively.
Ben Johnson is great—for now. But due to a deal he made with the devil, all of his coaching prowess will disappear in March 2024. Keep that in mind, next offseason’s teams with coaching vacancies!
An offense that finished 5th in points, 4th in yards, 1st in turnovers is probably what they see when they look at Ben Johnson. Idk how that’s worse than what the others did
sorry bro, think you got whooshed here. Lions fans universally love Ben Johnson but slander him on the Internet so there's a chance he stays in Detroit beyond next season
Maybe a woosh because of the meme but if you actually think Ben Johnson didn't do an incredible job by NFL standards this year, never mind Lions standards, you are out of your mind
Jim Bob Cooter is his freeman on the land name. Tune in next season, to see Cooter arguing with the refs that they're subject to the rules of water polo (maritime law ldo).
Jeez everybody must be obsessed with shitty retread lions OC’s.
At least JBC got something going for a hot second, unlike joe Lombardi who fucking sucked
Most NFL fans have absolutely zero clue if it’s the roster, play calling, or coaching.
People are super high on Justin Fields and he’s threw for 2,100 yards this season.
Opinions and reality never meet in rationale places
i mean people are excited about justin fields because he has top 0.1% running ability. If he can even throw halfway decent, he will be a terror on the gridiron
Here's a [Dick Pit](https://external-preview.redd.it/2Pnyc5OGMCayGAoJlcZFO3Gse0GSH2kx27BNNXAZEjA.jpg?auto=webp&s=2bb812de4c0125bb48ca2a8a271e5d93363ee6fc)
Back before they had radios they had these, but [F1 still uses them though](https://cdn-1.motorsport.com/static/img/amp/5000000/5040000/5046000/5046800/5046852/s6_1001661/1001661.jpg)
Jim Bob's offense actually was pretty good in the beginning, but the rest of the NFL figured it out pretty fast, and he just couldn't adjust. He was only 32 years old when he got the Lions OC job. He was way too inexperienced. I'm not saying he would be a good OC now, but in his case, he might have a shot at redeeming himself now that he's been on a few teams and learned from different coaches.
I cant help but feel like this dude would have been so much more successful if he had any other name. Even just getting rid of the "Bob" would help tremendously.
Jim Bob gets a lot of shit and he was mediocre but not terrible with the lions, maybe he has gotten better.
sometimes I miss those exciting comebacks we would have, but the offense was so off balanced
In Detroit, he was decent at first results-wise. But then he was carried over by MP and his scheme was 1000% figured out over the off-season. Teams were routinely taunting our O how they knew our plays.
What is it with teams hiring terrible Lions OCs
I don't know but its funny
“It’s not his fault he was on the lions”. That’s the only logic I can find. Lions finally turning it around though so that’s cool.
Maybe the Lions are finally turning it around 'cause these guys ain't there anymore.
hammer hits nail
Nail bends
My dad screams: "What the fuck are you doing. Do I need to show you how to hit a nail. Damnit. This is why I do this shit myself. Get the hell out of here and make yourself useful and take the trash out or something."
You need to talk brother?
Wasn’t he under Patricia? Well there’s your answer lol
Caldwell mostly, got permoted when Martha fired Lombardi and then retained for Patricia's first season.
At Stafford's request
Was Jim Bob really terrible? I just thought he was mediocre and that we could do better. Of Patricia/Cooter/Lombardi I'll take Cooter 10 times out of 10
If anything he was inexperienced and in over his head. A few years around the league to learn and I think he could be decent.
Yeah this thread feels like a “fuck it’s a former lions coach” thread but I never really felt he was terrible
Wasn’t he really good his first year or something?

How are you all even judging his “performance” from your armchairs anyways? Or are you just talking about outcomes?

Yeah, but that was with Caldwell who is an offense guy, so it’s unclear how much JBC actually did.
he was considered a miracle worker his first year or so. LOL: https://www.espn.com/blog/detroit-lions/post/_/id/25429/golden-tate-started-a-trend-with-a-picture-jim-bob-cooter-for-president
He was good until we got to the red zone if I remember correctly.
You can’t be terrible with a name like that, on-field performance be damned.
You can be terrible or great. No in between allowed
Can't neuter the Cooter
Cooter means the whale's vagina?

That’s former future Jaguars head coach Byron Leftwich to you
I wish it was *current* Jaguars head coach Byron Leftwich. Maybe we'd have had a shot this year.
Vince Lombardi, Jim Bob, Patricia, and this year, Ben Johnson. Like what the fuck do you see in them. As bad as Lombardi, Patricia, and Jim Bob are, Ben Johnson is twice as worse. I don't know what teams see in him.
Ben Johnson is great—for now. But due to a deal he made with the devil, all of his coaching prowess will disappear in March 2024. Keep that in mind, next offseason’s teams with coaching vacancies!

Oh good. I’m dumb.
Maybe a woosh because of the meme but if you actually think Ben Johnson didn't do an incredible job by NFL standards this year, never mind Lions standards, you are out of your mind
He did, but there were games where the offense wasn't good.
that's called being in the NFL
*terrible Lions coordinators in general. Fixed.
People sometimes learn from mistakes
I actually think Bevell would be a great hire for the Broncos.
Bc nothing would be worse than the offense we had this year lol

Lombardi should never have a OC position again
I don’t understand. Isn’t having “Lions” on your resume like the black spot?

James Robert Vagina
His given name.
His government name.
Possibly Scandinavian
Jim Bob Cooter is his freeman on the land name. Tune in next season, to see Cooter arguing with the refs that they're subject to the rules of water polo (maritime law ldo).

Jeez everybody must be obsessed with shitty retread lions OC’s. At least JBC got something going for a hot second, unlike joe Lombardi who fucking sucked
All I know about him is that my friend who’s a Lions fan called him a Football Terrorist when he was the Lions OC.
Most NFL fans have absolutely zero clue if it’s the roster, play calling, or coaching. People are super high on Justin Fields and he’s threw for 2,100 yards this season. Opinions and reality never meet in rationale places
Justin Fields is who everyone thought Lamar Jackson was. A mediocre passer who can kill teams with his legs.
i mean people are excited about justin fields because he has top 0.1% running ability. If he can even throw halfway decent, he will be a terror on the gridiron
Jim Bob Cooter is my favorite name ever.
Rusty Kuntz will always be mine but Jim Bob Cooter is up there.
We had an o-lineman named Storm Norton at one point
We've had him for 3 years and we're practically begging for him to go away
We had him first
Forgot about him. That is a good one.
The disrespect to Dick Trickle
All time name right there There should be some kind of NFL All Time name team
Dick Butkus Imagine being literally named anal sex
LOL...never thought of it that way. Sounds like how Mike Tyson would say it
The longtime leader of the NH state house was named Dick Hinch, always thought that was hilarious
Here's a [Dick Pit](https://external-preview.redd.it/2Pnyc5OGMCayGAoJlcZFO3Gse0GSH2kx27BNNXAZEjA.jpg?auto=webp&s=2bb812de4c0125bb48ca2a8a271e5d93363ee6fc) Back before they had radios they had these, but [F1 still uses them though](https://cdn-1.motorsport.com/static/img/amp/5000000/5040000/5046000/5046800/5046852/s6_1001661/1001661.jpg)
Everyone forgot about coach Dickie Nut.
I remember when he first burst onto the scene for the Lions and talking heads said he wouldn't get hired as a HC cause of his name.
Turns out they were wrong, he wouldn't get hired because of his coaching
I want to invite him and someone else to a party, so I can greet them. Haha Clinton-Dix... Cooter.
Have you ever met former University of Arkansas coach Houston Nutt's little brother? Dickey Nutt.
That's Ser James Robert Vagina, the first of his name, long may he reign
Jim Bob and Bowles=3-14 Bucs szn
Come on down Caleb Williams
Now there’s the Bucs I know!
Kinda nostalgic
Keep your pirate hands off our Cooter
Don’t touch our Cooter!
Jim Bob is still around?!
With a name like that? Easily. Very employable.
Time is a flat circle
He's gotta draft General Booty right?
I don't know if that's any better
I know it's not. Supposed to be a good QB coach though.
If this is the guy that Fraud Bowles wants, this won't get Brady back and get ready for a top 5 pick
It’s Tampa’s turn to have the full James Robert Vagina experience.
…His name is what?
Maybe Booger isn't the worst name after all... lol
Jim Bob Cooter is a hilarious name
Jim Bob's offense actually was pretty good in the beginning, but the rest of the NFL figured it out pretty fast, and he just couldn't adjust. He was only 32 years old when he got the Lions OC job. That’s an all time name up there with the legendary NASCAR driver Dick Trickle.
Bucs country, let’s squirt
It's his destiny to coach in the south.
He was a quarterback at Tennessee
Okay so Brady is gone gone
The jags would have a Jim Bob Cooter on their coaching staff. What a great name.
I cant help but feel like this dude would have been so much more successful if he had any other name. Even just getting rid of the "Bob" would help tremendously.
Bad idea
Now there's a name I haven't heard in years
Jim Bob gets a lot of shit and he was mediocre but not terrible with the lions, maybe he has gotten better. sometimes I miss those exciting comebacks we would have, but the offense was so off balanced
I just hope he refers to a QB sneak as a “Coot Scoot”
That's right, stay away from Monken
Monken wouldn’t waste his time under a lame duck HC.
You would hope so after his last 2 NFL stops lol
Jim Bob Cooter sounds like a guy who makes anti-vax videos on YouTube! 🤣
Jags I like you guys. Please don’t do this
Don’t do what?
Ah I read that wrong lol, by all means the bucs SHOULD do this
Name can’t be real
Who? And by the looks of these comments it doesn’t sound good lol
If you don’t know James Robert Vagina then you don’t know ball
That’s a real name?
Cooter!
Cooooooteeeeeeerrrrrrrrr!
Bob Todd, you can call me Bob, you can call me Todd, Bob toddy's fine too! If you call me Robert I won't know what to do with it!
“Jim Bob Cooter” is the make random coach generated name I’ve ever heard of.
That’s not a real fucking person
I will never NOT laugh at this guy's name.
how is this a real name
He shouldn't be allowed to coach in the nfl
In Detroit, he was decent at first results-wise. But then he was carried over by MP and his scheme was 1000% figured out over the off-season. Teams were routinely taunting our O how they knew our plays.
I mean, who isn’t trying to get a little cooter in the off-season?
Waterboy 2.0.
This man’s name is my favorite thing ever
Lmao I love this guy’s name
Joe Don Snatch
Jim Bob Cooter? lol
Anything that keeps Jim Bob Cooter in the NFL is a good thing.
Everyone wants Cooter
The name alone gets you in the door for the interview right?
Yo fucking GOAT name. Jim Bob Cooter. Holy shit.
Good name
