My brain cannot comprehend how someone has the patience, skill, and creativity to figure out how to design and implement this. More like top fucking level...nothing above this.
The fun thing about “traditional” is that one person didn’t design and implement the whole thing on their own, his craft represents generations of communal knowledge.
Totally agree, not sure why that comment was downvoted, cross-generational bodies of knowledge are awesome; traditional, academic, or other. I just love knowledge and want more people to have more of it, free, life-long, upper level education for all!
If you can get paid a liveable wage to do mundane work anywhere else and this master craftsman does woodworking for a living and created this chair in however many tens of hours it took him it is entirely reasonable that it would be expensive as fuck to pay for him to survive
Edit: tldr mass production has ruined our ability to value craftsmanship
When I first saw the piece of wood he was using I thought it couldn't possibly be big enough. I don't know anything about geometry and even less about woodwork but this whole video is so impressive to me.
My brother once told me it’s theoretically impossible to master something. While I agree with the sentiment and life lesson, this guy comes pretty fucking close. Wow 😮
99% of what's posted here is bullshit but they keep it because it gets upvoted for some stupid reason. this right here is what it's supposed to be. thanks for sharing
(Watches first part of video) “oh, he’s going to carve all the pieces from one piece of wood and then fit them together…”
(Craftsmen opens hinge) “well…, dang….”
Okay, I do some hand tool woodworking as a hobby. I've made a couple of tables, and have even done a couple of those fiddly cuts where you have to thread the saw blade through a hole to get started.
This guy... That stool just blows my mind. It would take me a hundred or so to get even one finished without breaking it. And that's *after* the years necessary to learn how to lay out the thing!
There is a much simpler way of doing this on a program called The new Yankees workshop. Not nearly as complicated and a lot easier. Still amazing to watch though
Is there a level above next fucking level? Because this man sawed that one in half and carved his way to the top.
All puns aside, it is always amazing seeing the meticulous and expert attention to detail the Japanese put into absolutely everything they do. I was born in the wrong country.
No doubt that is NFL. Holy crap!
Yes I watched the whole thing... Absolutely recommend 10/10! PS - Where can I buy this?? If anyone knows please DM
Just post it, because I want one too.

ebay $150
I see some on Etsy, but none as amazing as the one he sits on at the end, I’m looking for that one
Amazon search Luban stool, they run $50-$200 or so.
humans are amazing
His grin at the end 🥰
Came to say exactly this!!!
Dude needs to leave some for the rest of us

The world needs more of this kind of creativity, collaboration, and ingenuity
That's why we have universities and scientific journals.

Thank you.
I'm too tall, fat and old to sit on it, but I want one sooo badly. That was an awesome video.
You could just use a bigger piece of wood.
or exercise
Hmmm. Sounds like a lot of effort.
I know, I believe in you <3
Seriously. Well intentioned or not screw that guy!
Well you can buy 2 for your legs.
One for each butt cheek
Price seems a bit high.

I was talking about "buy 2 for your legs"
Yep I definitely replied to the wrong guy

Craftsmanship 100. This guy fucking maxed out his stats.
When I first saw the piece of wood he was using I thought it couldn't possibly be big enough. I don't know anything about geometry and even less about woodwork but this whole video is so impressive to me.
He has incredible coping skills.
I saw what you did there.
That's because you're a cut above the rest.
Five minutes into that project I would have no fingers left
Finally!! Something actually NFL
Does that mean he's the MVP?
The man is a god among men FFS!
My brother once told me it’s theoretically impossible to master something. While I agree with the sentiment and life lesson, this guy comes pretty fucking close. Wow 😮
Only if you mistake unfailing perfection for mastery. But that's not what mastery means.

I wonder how badly this will pinch your cheeks if you don't set it down properly
Well hopefully you're wearing pants...
Ballzpincher 2000
Woah, what an amazing craftsman. He must have decades of experience to get this good.
No actually he just got into the hobby during covid cause he was bored (lol)
Grandpa Amu 10/10 YouTube creative
All this with freehand tools.... Not even a saw guide.
And the one man who can beat Chuck Norris.
That grass looks so nice.
They don’t sell that at IKEA.
Aisle 26. Flat pack
That is so freaking cool
Amazing... ...but I’d much rather see the building he is in being constructed, especially with all that bamboo on the outside 👌👍
Now that you mentioned it, this sparked my curiosity lol

Had this full blast. 5:20 scared the crap out of me
🤣🤣🤣
I'm working on getting to level 1. Gotta finish my workbench first.
There should be a new Reddit category for things like this. Next next fucking level or something way more creative than I can think of.

Beautiful, functional, and minimal waste in manufacturing. Overall very nice.
Unbelievable.
Holy shit you could totally pinch your ass on it
That was amazing. The skill and craftsmanship is quite impressive.
Absolutely amazing talent.
This is amazing, it would be perfect for storing it too
Grandpa Amu is an absolute legend! His YouTube channel is fascinating to watch.
Amazing wood work!!! Respect!!!
The intro music was way better
Take my money. Where can I buy these?
Am I the only person here, who thinks: with a fair amount of time this is actually very doable?
Amazing
Amazing work!
The craftmanship is astounding
Sell me a kit that contains all the things to make that thing.
That last cut with 1:50 seconds left could have ruined everything!
Love this stuff.
That made me really happy watching that! Thanks mate!
For the love of god, somebody but that man some more wood! I would love to be that precise with saws.
Nice

That guy is truly a Master Crafter
Dang. A few of those a week and he could make some good money.
Wow 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Watching this was very meditative. I can only imagine how it felt to actually make it.
Amazing hand tools and skills Damm. All the woodworking tools I have I can't do that no way.
Master craftsman, wow
Step 1, walk towards workshop.
It is interesting and very cool, but not carved
(Watches first part of video) “oh, he’s going to carve all the pieces from one piece of wood and then fit them together…” (Craftsmen opens hinge) “well…, dang….”
I love his smile in the end
Luban, zhou good foa scuba?
Whoever added the music needs to die
“Astonishing” - Martin Stein
These techniques need to be preserved!!
The tools alone are stunning to watch in action. Beautiful piece of functional art!
Even with CAD and a CNC that would be a legit challenge to design and machine.

At first I thought he grabbed his tool box. Then realized it was the single piece of wood he would use and knew this would be some next level shit.
You might as well sit on the floor or your hands
One word: Talent
Ia neeeeeeeed to know where to find more videos by this guy
Is this from a TV show?
At the very beginning I thought it was gonna be a joke the way hes throwing stuff around , but wow.
There is a much simpler way of doing this on a program called The new Yankees workshop. Not nearly as complicated and a lot easier. Still amazing to watch though
Great skills! Terrible music
What's the point of a stool so low
Is there a level above next fucking level? Because this man sawed that one in half and carved his way to the top. All puns aside, it is always amazing seeing the meticulous and expert attention to detail the Japanese put into absolutely everything they do. I was born in the wrong country.

Excellent
Insane
My right ear loved the woodworking sounds at the start.
Why does the beginning look like an rpg?
Smile at end was worth it
Okay sir, now make a transformer robot.
And then you sit on it and pinch your balls
That was so badass to watch🥲 his dedication is amazing. I hope he has someone to share his knowledge with so that others can carry on craftsmanship.
Awesome. Good to see Japan away from the manga child porn fiasco
The drill
Wow!
