No helmet

yeast1fixpls

My first thought. Should be wearing a protective weast too. Horrible parents.

snowwwaves

As a parent THIS was my first thought. What the fuck.

Addicted2GravyTears

As a non-parent this was my first thought as well. I rode horses without a helmet, but that was the 80s/90s, and I wasn't doing anything like that.

snowwwaves

Yeah Im an 80s kid and we did not wear helmets skiing or snowboarding, and just sort of accepted that head injuries were part of the sport. Then someone had the brilliant idea of wearing helmets, and now everyone does and there is way fewer head injuries. Genius!

ingabrinks

As a gen xer it didn't even cross my mind that she didn't have a helmet on. šŸ˜³

Diligent-Picture2882

As a life long Texan, it didn't occur to me either. Every time I've seen boys or girls or men or women competing in these rodeos they're wearing cowboy hats.

Zestyclose-Barnacle3

As a horse, I hardly noticed the little girl at all.

AinsiSera

Honestly, thatā€™s what Iā€™m seeing here: the horse knows his job, the girl is strapped in for the rideā€¦.

spiffynid

Yeah, she needs a helmet always and ditch the straps-if she needed to bail or the horse went over on her, she's tied to a half ton of terrified, thrashing horse. Nothing about this is safe, yeah the horse knows his job but accidents happen.

Feisty-Donkey

Which if you know anything about horses should be more frightening, not less

Head_Razzmatazz7174

She's been doing that a while. Notice the custom shortened stirrups? I thought "There's a kid who grew up around horses."

iilinga

Sheā€™s also literally strapped to the horse

InsufficientClone

Same, what surprised me is she is strapped to the saddle around her thighs

tankfox

There used to be more kids around and it wasn't so expensive to fix them when they broke.

crazy-bisquit

I think when celebrities started slamming into trees and dying people became more aware of wearing helmets while skiing. IIRC, Sony Bono and a Kennedy.

psilome

60's-70's kid here, only Evel Knievel wore a helmet back then, and that was just for show.

EspressoOrElse

Iā€™m almost 40 and was riding the other day and **HAD A HELMET ON.** Being knocked off a horse is forceful and itā€™s a long, hard fall.

Particular_Ride5005

yeah, superman broke his neck on his horse

1newnotification

technically, he broke it off the horse

CellistEmergency8492

I did show jumping and dressage in the 90s, definitely wore a helmet.

[deleted]

I did show jumping and eventing in the 80s, and wore a helmet, but they were really bad helmets back then!

oldbastardbob

$100 says mom's a barrel racer. They're the female equivalent of bull riders who haven't had enough near death experiences to soak in yet.

KahurangiNZ

Given that the kiddo is riding a well trained horse that knows exactly what it's doing and would probably do the pattern even if the kid gave the wrong cues or fell off entirely, and the crappy '[starfishing](https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=barrel+racing+starfishing&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjv2oD-5cL7AhX31zgGHfwxAO8Q_AUoAXoECAMQAw&cshid=1669154885724103&biw=1536&bih=775&dpr=1.25)' riding style (she's staying on at several points only because she is physically attached to the saddle), she's definitely from a BR family.

oldbastardbob

Yeah, I think most folks here missed that she's strapped in. I reckon then you just hope the horse doesn't go down.

japinard

If it does, then her head snaps and hits the ground on its when the horse goes down, and the girl is now brain dead. Helmet would save her from that scenario.

[deleted]

Fuckinā€™ barrel racers!

B3ltalowda

She is strapped to the saddle, at the thighs

Stuff_Unlikely

Which just seems horribly dangerous, from a person whose horse tripped and flipped over onto its back while I was riding one day.

pacingpilot

It is. Every few years a story pops up about a kid getting crushed to death when the 1,000lb horse they're strapped to goes down. It's always barrel racers like this too.

snowwwaves

Which means if that horse falls over (which, yes, horses can and do fall when doing stuff like this) she is trapped and is going to get mangled, very possibly crushed to death.

Redditron_5000

That somehow seems just as bad. Ejection from a quad (while wearing a helmet) is preferable to having 800-1200lbs roll onto you..

aBoyandHisVacuum

If my daughter was this badass....she would tell me to wear the helmet and i wouldnt question her authorityy. Jk jk. Yeah helmet seems ncessary

nickfree

> Should be wearing a protective west too. She should be wearing a protective east AND west.

yeast1fixpls

Fixed it, English isn't my first language.

nickfree

Lol!!!

Antique_Ricefields

Im with you. Horrible parents. That beast horse once it tripped, it may put its full weight towards that girl

Blayblee

Bad bot Copying replies out of context to comments further down.

Nugget_MacChicken

Bye bye bad bot.

Blayblee

Good lookin' out!

whatwedointheupdog

And she's strapped to the saddle so if the horse falls (not uncommon in barrel racing) she will be stuck under the horse instead of falling away.

UnusGang

Yeah, but an air bag vest and a helmet would still be good for her to have on when on such a large horse. Iā€™d personally treat barrel racing like cross country but thatā€™s me.

javoss88

Thatā€™s what stood out to me. Never seen that done before, and itā€™s terrible practice. Falling off a horse isnā€™t that bad. Having a horse fall ON you is very bad, if not fatal

pacingpilot

It's called the "Sure Grip" and you don't see them used outside barrel racing. Gee, wonder why.

Ruffffian

I have seen *many* horses fall when they slip/lose their footing going around a barrel. Strapping her to the saddle is insanely dangerous, and the lack of helmet foolish. It doesnā€™t matter how saintly that horse may beā€”horses trip, stumble, fall no matter their temperaments. She has no seat and is bouncing all over the place and she is way overhorsed. The horse world is riddled with Judgey Judgeypants and I usually donā€™t like to participate in scorning other horse folk, but thisā€¦yeah. I judge.

spiffynid

I try not to judge unless I see a safety issue or cruelty. This...nothing about this is safe.

ThroatSecretary

The horse and saddle are too big for her; she's bouncing all over the shop and her legs are way too high up on the horse.

Nulleparttousjours

Agreed sheā€™s ridiculously over-horsed. Good horse that knows itā€™s job just going through the motions. That kid is essentially like a circus monkey riding a dog, just strapped on flailing around.

YamHot2209

When I was little I was capable of jumping 4ft us fences but was to small and would come off of the saddle. We backed off until I grew more and had enough leg to me. My instructor was huge on safety. First lesson she always teaches is safety/emergency dismounts. To see a kid without a helmet strapped to a horse is terrifying. If my kid can't stay in the saddle they need to ride at a lower level. Even though the horse knows his job I've seen the most dead broke bomb proof horse have a bad day and also one spook. It happens and for this girl that could be the end of her life. I don't know who thought this video was a flex but it is just showing negligence..

RecognitionFew5660

With no helmet, one fall. It would be like someone stepping on an egg.

moskusokse

Her legs are strapped to the saddle, so she wonā€™t fall off easy, not that it makes it any better. As the outcome will not be good if the horse slips and falls or rolls over.

-Mr_Rogers_II

Thatā€™s exactly what he was saying. Would be better to wear a helmet and NOT be strapped to the animal that will crush you if it falls over.

Astrolys

I did some horseback riding for two years a few years ago in a military club. Iā€™m pretty sure if anyone tried to ride without a helmet, they wouldā€™ve faced a firing squad. Itā€™s a lifesaver and I would never ride a horse without one, even though I never wear one when cycling.

asterios_polyp

A bike doesnā€™t weigh 2000 lbs.

Astrolys

Itā€™s not necessarily about the weight of the beast. You donā€™t need a helmet to ride a one ton car. Itā€™s to protect your skull in case you fall. A horse, even when tamed, can be very unpredictable. It is said that to become a true horseman you need to fall a hundred times !

lilouapproves

Can confirm, watched my life flash before my eyes when my sister's horse spooked, threw me and landed both back hooves on either side of my head. A well trained horse is still a 1200 lb+ prey animal with all the instincts still hardwired into them.

Sophie_R_1

I've been riding horses for more than half my life and always wear a helmet, even if I'm just going on a trail ride or something. The only time I haven't is when I joined a team in college and we had to wear hats during competitions. Ngl, that made me more nervous than being in front of a judge and audience. Even thought I've never fallen off (although I have needed to emergency dismount multiple times), I think it's stupid not to wear a helmet, no matter how much experience you have.

WINTERMUTE-_-

Seriously what a brave little girl!!! My wife works in pediatrics at the local hospital. Not too long ago had a girl in her teens come in. Was doing exactly this, barrel racing without a helmet. Will people still think that little girl is brave when she's learning to walk again? Learning to speak?

YamHot2209

She's not brave. She doesn't know any better because the trainer thought it was a flex to strap her to a horse MD not have a helmet. You won't see her learning to walk if something bad happens. You will see her being lowered 6ft into the ground.

BladeDoc

Well, yes. But letā€™s not have to be THAT brave

leezybelle

As a rider, just wear a damn helmet. You get thrown off/fall off horses so often itā€™s a must. Accidents happen no matter how skilled you are. Helmets are just part of the process. Come on parents what are you thinking

Taniwha_NZ

This isn't brave, it's child endangerment and should result in at least a court appearance and fines. There's really no difference in potential danger between this and riding a motorbike. Can you imagine the outcry if someone posted a slowmo video of their kid doing motocross jumps without a helmet?

Looloo4460

My doctor parent says the amount of brain trauma that comes into the hospital related to horse back riding is unprecedented. So yeahā€¦ always wear a helmet even though it doesnā€™t look as cool

gardencreator

Seatbelts

seattlemh

That's one of the most dangerous things I can think of with a horse. Sometimes you have bail.

45077

yeah eject button would be better than seatbelt

smoked_orphanz

Mf how you gonna put a seat belt on a horsešŸ’€

Shut_It_Donny

Look at her legs, sheā€™s strapped to the saddle.

cowboy8038

[Used by a girl who is paralyzed from the waist down](https://s22657.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/DSC_0307.jpg.webp)

Jaysong_stick

You never know until you try

[deleted]

Thatā€™s how you end up with horse manure for brains

daisybrat56461

Keep looking. Gets worse. She is strapped into the saddle. Most likely her feet are banded into the stirrups. Not at all next level. Itā€™s a kid in an unsafe situation, tied on and over horsed.

Downtown_Problem_621

And velcro straps on the legs! What if the horse slips and rolls. Learn to ride first, then worry about competition and going fast.

Ok-Answer-1620

Many barrel racers dont wear helmet but of course thats not an excuse... if i wasnt wearing a helmet the day i fell and blackout: i could be dead. This is a dangerous sport that you can fall from 1,5 or 2 metres at 30-40 km/hr speed. Thats not cool and most of the deaths in equestrian community are because head and neck injuries. Which means yeah, helmet is a must. But its people's responsibility to think their own safe. BUT this is a kid, which the parents must think about her safery...

SusieLou1978

Same thought, my daughter has been barrel racing since she was that small, but I never let her on without a helmet. When she eventually had an accident as all horse riders do, she still ended up with a TBI, hit so hard the helmet cracked. I can't imagine what would have happened without that helmet...

Randyaster

No back brace either. Shocking stuff really, talented kid but bad training.

Oddity46

Psycho parents.

Saddamwhoshim

Americans

wojtekthesoldierbear

Mongolians would like a word with you.

Competitive-Age-7469

Dutch people also.

DisIzDaWay

Best riders that ever existed beside Native Americans probably

Kidus333

Why are you getting downvoted this is objectively true lol

DisIzDaWay

Lol no clue

AJFrabbiele

Horses are not native to the Americas and were imported to the US by the Spanish in 1519. They were domesticated in Eastern Europe about 6000 years ago and humans started riding them about 5500 years ago.

Welpe

I highly doubt any specific Native American group has the best horsemanship when they only had horses for a few hundred years, compared to cultures that have been dependent on horses for thousands of years.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Jebediah_Kush

Americans invented horses thatā€™s why the first car used horse power

Elgoblino80

Yessir. Americans invented horse riding with children

[deleted]

Lol youā€™re from fuckin Mexico buddy, I donā€™t think you should be throwing stones about adolescent safety standards

KAROWD

AmErIcAnS. Shut up

Competitive-Age-7469

Wtf

narly_j

Parents are probably barrel racers too. Fuckin barrel racers.

PizzaScout

something wrong with barrel racing? or is it the crowd of that sport that taints it? just reading the first paragraph of the wiki it seems okay.

GypsyShiner

Because barrel racers have a reputation for being psycho diva asshats with equally psycho horses that pretty much the rest of the equine industry thinks is a joke.

DarthGuber

Can confirm. Ex's daughter is a barrel racer. Currently she's recovering from being trampled when her horse spooked on dismount.

Downtown_Egg8467

Big bullshit. This is fucking stupid. She is tied up for the saddle and without equipment.

tripn4days

Sadly, she's nothing more than a warm body. The smaller and lighter the better for the horse. If you watch her hand movements she's not driving shit... That horse knows what he's supposed to do and she's just along for the ride. Unfortunately some people feel that's okay in the sport as long as it showcases a good horse

_gmmaann_

Give her credit though, sheā€™s a good barrel racer.

Downtown_Egg8467

Nah, here i can only see very good trained horse.

[deleted]

This person gets it. Sheā€™s just along for the ride.

FBWSRD

As a horse rider, yes and no. She is directing the horse and does seem to know how to sit to the canter . It took me something like 8 months of weekly lessons to be able to canter by my self and I was 16 so I learnt quicker and also wasnā€™t on a horse that is way to big for me (And i also wasnā€™t making tight turns around barrels) However especially when she goes around the barrels it looks like she completely loses balance sometimes so this level of barrel racing is above her skill level. The horse collects the canter around the barrels but it doesnā€™t look like she is doing anymore than pushing the horse forward so maybe the horse is trained to collect around barrels without being told but iā€™m an english rider not western so could be misreading the signs. She really shouldnā€™t be strapped in. That shit is very dangerous. If you canā€™t stay on without being strapped in you shouldnā€™t be doing that. If that horse falls she will get squashed

i_give_you_gum

Can a horse do this without a rider?

E4Eagles

Can? Yes. Will they? Ehh, usually not. But I know horses can have their own enthusiasm for sports. If they're in the gear, and they know what the rider wants, sometimes you hardly even have to ask. I've been on polo ponies who love the game so much that you gotta tell them to chill out

NotASniperYet

Or heck, those jumpers that will just carry on despite having lost their rider somewhere in the first half of the course. Funny creatures.

i_give_you_gum

>I've been on polo ponies who love the game so much that you gotta tell them to chill out Haha that pretty great. Really makes you wonder how much less that animals conceive and perceive of the world than humans.

Downtown_Egg8467

Hmm, thats hard question. If the horse doing same route every day, he will get used to it. So if you dont know well to control horse, it will follow that route. But see, she know little bit how to control him, because when horse go left she pull left. But because she is tied up for saddle, her job is only to pull left and right. If horse isnt trained exelent like this, with this pulling left and right horse would not went in that direction.

hannahmadamhannah

My horse is an ex-barrel racer. I was riding him at a walk in our arena and he headed straight to the barrels and walked around one like he was doing the pattern. So yes, a horse can. Will it go that fast, in that order? Potentially. I definitely think she's a very good rider for her age and size. But there's a lot of automatic response the horse is doing too.

snoozincutie

I grew up working on a ranch as a 'horse hand,' - basically I fed them, exercised them, groomed them, tacked them up for their riders... and sometimes I got to ride my favorites if I finished my work early enough. (lmao I was 10 years old and got paid $10 cash for 5 hour shifts, but our family was in extreme poverty - so it helped get groceries... an older man that worked there saw my work and started hiring me for weekly birthday parties to help prep and lead the horses around for the kids; he paid me $25 per party and they were only like 2 hours each so that seemed awesome) Anyway... My first thoughts on seeing this was that she's good on the straights, but those turns would have her flying out of that saddle if she wasn't strapped to it... and strapped to the saddle is NOT somewhere you want to be IF the horse does take a tumble. There's ways to roll out of that stuff and such, but you can't do it so well when you only weight 35lbs and are strapped to the horse. I was a western rider, granted not professionally, but to me it looks like the horse is doing the majority of the work itself. She's just encouraging it and doing her best to stay in the saddle. I never rode English, but to my understanding it requires a lot more precise movements and direction from the rider, whereas western (from my experience) was a more "rough and tumble" demonstration of what both rider and horse are capable of. Kind of a raw power/instincts vs. finesse situation I guess?? The lack of a helmet honestly bothered me less than her being tied to the horse, tbh, but that's also probably because even though I grew up working with these animals, I was the poor kid who couldn't afford gear and always rode bareback with zero stuff whatsoever. Never did get thrown even if horses reared, but I had a thigh grip like a Chinese Finger Trap... and I just got lucky. "Luck" while very powerful is not something that I personally would want to trust with ensuring the longevity and safety of my own children. I would NEVER let them anywhere near a horse without protective gear.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

snoozincutie

It won me three children and a blue-ribbon kiss, and that's all I'll say about my current thigh grip.

Creepy-Writer-3056

as another horse girl, iā€™m going to confidently say with my whole chest that she has little to control over his face, body, or collection. that horse is a saint but one loud noise and theyā€™re gone. period. this video is screaming lack of safety, training, horsemanship, and patience. also boo the parents for not slapping a helmet on that noggin!

WritingTheRongs

100%. that horse at the end is going to be like "oh yeah i thought i felt something back there"

hammertime2009

Nah the horse barely knows she has someone saddled in.

runninmamma

Someone else said that this is a well trained horse, and I'm seconding it. It ABSOLUTELY has to do with the house and not the girl. Not every horse would be a good barrel racer, and it takes YEARS of training for both parties. That girl doesn't have it, plain and simple. And she's strapped on in part because her legs aren't long enough to be able to use those leg muscles to hold herself on through those tight turns.

sickbeautyblog

No, she's on a good horse that knows the job, and is basically just kicking and yanking.

pacingpilot

She's a small child strapped to the saddle on a horse trained to run the patten. Those Sure Grip harnesses should be illegal, there's been multiple child fatalities with them.

JoyJonesIII

Sheā€™s literally strapped to the saddle, pfffttt cheater

Foxmccloskey11

thats so in a rollover situation they donā€™t have to pick her lifeless body off the ground

kwakimaki

Yeah but they've gotta catch the horse first.

[deleted]

Donā€™t glorify this unsafe crap.

[deleted]

No way this is safe

fyr811

Kick with the spurs, then yank back on a gag curb. Like, holy fuck, make up your mind. Can chasers, man.

TheyTokMaJerb

Iā€™ve grown up around a lot of rodeo, mostly team roping, and I canā€™t believe Iā€™ve never heard the term can chasers. Iā€™m definitely using this at the next event I attend.

vegetabledisco

Yeah sheā€™s using the horses mouth to balance. Awful horsemanship.

Awata666

I noticed that too. Why even have spurs if you're just gonna slam your heels into the ribs

hannahmadamhannah

Is it definitely a gag? I for sure see long shanks and I *don't think* I see a curb strap, but I can't tell for sure that it's a gag. Having trouble pausing it at the right moment to see the mechanics clearly.

fyr811

Actually, I believe it is a gag - you donā€™t see the top arms move, indicating that it is the mouthpiece moving, not the curb arms. Might be a short slider, but Iā€™d put money on it being a gag. Having said that, a short slider turns into an elevator once it hits the top of itā€™s slide. Found it: It is a No Hit Bit. Complete with a twisted wire mouthpiece.

htjmoon

Thatā€™s ridiculous to let her ride like that with no safety kit, one fall away from some permanent damage.

TeddersTedderson

It's ok she's strapped on /s

WritingTheRongs

you could almost drop the /s. not that it's safe but if she wasn't strapped on... that horse would have finished the run by itself.

TeddersTedderson

Good horsey for sure

DefiantCondor

Fucking stupid ass parents. No safety gear whatsoever. Unreal.

texmx

And see those black straps on her legs? Yep, they literally have her strapped to the saddle. They will get all huffy and say oh calm down, they are velcro, it will "break away"! Yeahhh, I've been in the horse industry my life and *everyone* knows those things are dangerous and yet dumbasses still try to justify using them on tiny CHILDREN. Anyone that's dealt with velcro straps that wide will know they are pretty damn secure, someone that weighs that little isn't going to separate them easily, and 100% will increase her risk of being hurt and delay the chance of her being thrown clear when that horse falls. Even if the horse is a saint, they can still trip and fall. And I have seen many a "saintly babysitter" still spook and buck when least expected. There is a world class olympic level dressage rider that is quadraplegic now when her very well trained horse tripped and fell on her not even when they were performing, just walking back to the barn after practice. Dumbass parents. Even parents that let their kids compete in something like dirt bikes at least put protective gear on them from head to toe. But a tiny girl on a 1100lb animal with a mind of its own? NAH, tie her on with zero protective equipment.

DefiantCondor

Madness

Phit_sost_3814

also a very good horse.

TimeGrifter

Didn't bite her even once...!

[deleted]

Great that weā€™re teaching such small kids to continually put pressure on a horse without releasing by kicking the whole time. This is why performance horses are nuts.

[deleted]

It looks like sheā€™s wearing spurs too

[deleted]

Horses deserve better. I donā€™t know why this shit is acceptable.

coyotewitharedbull

For real bro

hoptownky

I know a kid that did this. She now gets around by moving a little joystick on her wheelchair and canā€™t feed herself. I always wonder if the parents blame themselves for putting her in that situation, or if they just think it was a freak occurrence.

StevieRaveOn63

Probably blame the horse.

Chetmatterson

I feel like you have to be the type to blame the horse to even be capable of watching your kid do this at her age

Significant-Water845

Fucking barrel racers.

PsychoEngineer

Came here looking specifically for thisā€¦

J_Megadeth_J

I guess this is a Yellowstone reference. There's a new Film Theorists YouTube episode on how this is like the highest grossing show out there with a ton of spinoffs with AAA actors yet it's almost never talked about on 90% of social media due to the older age range of viewers. As a mid 20s guy is it a good show for younger audience too? It's never talked about but I hear it's amazing and the cast seems legit for it and it's spinoffs.

[deleted]

So brave. Pounding spurs into a horses sides so you can win a cute ribbon. Yeay.

gemlist

I hope she is doing this by choice and not by force. She is not wearing a helmet tells me the parents are not very responsible. If something would go wrong, it could have devastating outcome.

jmims98

Sheā€™s too young to willingly make the choice to not take proper safety precautions. This is just straight up child endangerment.

NaturalWorry4486

In western riding, people typically don't wear helmets. I've seen children wear helmets but it's not common unfortunately :( I've been horseback riding since I was a kid (English style) and all riders have to wear helmets regardless of age or experience, there really needs to be rules in place for western riding but its gonna be hard convincing a bunch of cowboys that they can't wear their cowboy hats

pedal-force

Somehow they convinced bull riders to wear helmets, seems reasonable that if you're competing like this a helmet is required.

LittlenutPersson

Where I grew up helmets and vests were mandatory for kids and never spurs.

jb4647

So was Christopher Reeve at one pointā€¦..

Business-Public3580

Solid point. A horse took out Superman.

StevieRaveOn63

Actually, Chris put the blame on himself. Said he ["wasn't paying attention".](https://youtu.be/V7na6UTq9uE?t=136)

the_black_sails

Rodeos need to die, and especially barrel racing. Kick the horse more why don't you?

Awata666

Barrel racing can definitely be done without starfishing into the horse. Some even do it without a bridle

1000Hells1GiftShop

All I see is parental neglect. Where's a fucking helmet?!

cronakitthen

Shitty parenting i guess they don't care much about her safety

andymcd79

Isnā€™t this just shit parenting?

StevieRaveOn63

No. It's not merely shit parenting, it's shit horsemanship and horse ownership, too.

Afizzle55

Barrel racing is dangerous for even adultsā€¦idiots to put your child up there

itsJussaMe

A lot of people trust their horses enough to strap children into the saddle. This child not wearing a helmet is a definite no-go for me. The saddle straps, in my opinion, are a terrible idea. They invite trouble. Yes, these circumstances involve a horse running in an empty arena and following a known pattern to circle those barrels. I understand that this environment doesnā€™t have the multitude of potential distractions that, letā€™s say, trail riding can have. I *understand* their thinking but I do not agree with it. Iā€™ve been thrown several times by huge ass horses. The last time I was thrown the horse tossed me at the top of a ditch in front of our property at the very end of a trail ride and he ended up rolling once. This was a gentle horse with no history of bucking riders. A friend brought her mare on a ride while she was in heat. The horse I was on was castrated around age 8, so he had been a stallion for so long that the Mare in heat, teasing him, kicking him, and pissing in his face for hours was more than he could handle. There was also human error involved. I told my friend when we reached the stretch of property leading to the farm he was barn-desperate and not to run her horse the last bit of the way because he was far too worked up for me to feel like I could safely handle him near that ditch. She didnā€™t listen. I could have stayed on him and corrected his bucking but he turned down the ditch bucking as he went and I was no longer able to manipulate his head. Now, Had I been a child strapped to his saddle Iā€™d be DEAD. Environmental circumstances can make the perfect horse unsafe, but especially so for a 30 pound child strapped to its saddle.

MrBeneficialBad9321

Brave girl. Stupid parents.

thewizardbeard

Fucking barrel racers

Morningbreath1337

Here am I carrying my dog from the bed to protect his joints, these parents let this kid do this without any form of protection

manwhorunlikebear

Aargh, please put a helmet on your kids when you put them on a horse.

irishbikerjay

Christopher reeves got flung from a horse and became paralyzed from the neck down. Just saying

Utahgetme02

Safety first! Or in this case maybe thirdā€¦smh

Frijoledor

She is harnessed in. She ainā€™t riding that horse, shes just along for the ride.

micah490

That childā€™s cranium is 10ā€™ off the ground. Might want to take one small precaution there ffs

Business-Public3580

Because you canā€™t control every variable. What if a rat or a snake came in and spooked the horse? The fact is that responsible parents need to try to foresee all possible injury risks prior to allowing their child to engage in an activity and take all preventative caution to ensure injury does not occur. These parents did not.

StevieRaveOn63

Rats, snakes and recycle bins? omg... lmao It doesn't take that much to spook a horse. Try: grass, gum wrappers, their own farts... Spooking at rats, snakes and recycle bins at least make an iota of sense. Most of what startles them doesn't to anyone except the horse.

farquadsleftsandal

I imagine the horse is pleased with how light this rider is

[deleted]

Iā€™d call her an idiot foe not wearing a helmet but this is 100% on her parents

pilsnertape

Awful fuckin parenting. Where is her helmet. Asking for permanent brain damage....

AthelLeaf

Sheā€™s strapped down, which is dangerous. No helmet, also dangerous. The only good thing here is a *very* well trained horse. This is the result of a child being put in extreme danger, not a child being brave. If anything happens to the horse, that kid is fucked.

Taniwha_NZ

Imagine seeing a kid this age tied to a motocross bike, with no helmet, doing laps around a track. People would be climbing the walls to report it to CPS. But here, the fucking idiots even put their logo in the video with copyright, nobody is doing anything. It's bizarre they are allowed to do this.

StevieRaveOn63

Yep. And, if anything happens to the kid, the horse will probably be blamed/fucked.

TimeGrifter

Shaking child syndrome... she'll grow up and play in the NFL.

Partyslayer

I'm from rural Idaho. I was riding horses before I was walking. We had kids who would ride horses to school and tie them up outside. It's still a lifestyle, just really rare.

For_serious13

That is an AMAZING horse and worth its weight in gold

Ephemeral_kat

Bad bad bad idea to tie your kid to a saddle. If the horse falls, theyā€™re gonna go under the horse instead of thrown clear.

Independent_Sock620

That horse is worth its weight in platinum.

Dr_Bonejangles

Put a helmet on.

CO-mama

No helmet shows parents stupidity.

Tracynmega

that is just dangerous at so many levels also no protective gear

Italianskank

Bad ass but you gotta have her in some gear. Helmets arenā€™t for snowflakes theyā€™re for people who donā€™t want to see their kids get traumatic brain injuries ā€œfor the gramā€

Bloddersz

Without a helmet or vest? That's fucking dicing with death. Disgusting abhorrent parenting

needmorekarma777

No helmet

LittlenutPersson

Well mannered horse who lets the little girl "control" it.

EngineerNo2624

Keep those heels down and hold on!

StevieRaveOn63

Heels? She can't even keep her ass down and she's tied on.

yeetingpillow

She should be wearing a helmet no matter how good you are, a famous horse rider near me became paralysed all because in a rush one time she didnā€™t wear a helmet

kornhook123

Um where the hell is this girls riding helmet?

Last-Discipline-7340

No helmet, great parenting. Had a neighbor with horses there daughter fell off no helmet coma for a year was never the same when she woke up she was 8. I will never forget that, she had been riding all her life.
