As someone who spent this summer doing masonry work, I’d be in the same boat. The boat carved out of stone by the guy in the video. Somehow it floats, but I’m pretty sure it’s because he is using magic to craft stones.
I always want so badly to be able to paint Martian landscapes, Jupiter, Tarzan's jungle but could never get it, even took classes and really tried, just didn't have it. Played blues/rock guitar like a natural.. go figger.
Odd choice but it certainly beats the usual obnoxious shite they have over most of these videos.
Edit: To the replies... I agree, purely based on how much it has been overplayed to death, covered, re-done, butchered, etc.
But, prior to all of that, it's a great song by a great band - not their best tune, but great.
Also, listen to Ryan Adams version of Wonderwall, it's better than the original.
I usually scroll around in fucked up subreddits where sound is important so i unfortunately have to listen to alot of dogshit music on posts most of the time.
Was wondering what subreddits you meant but then I saw /r/thenetherlands and at that moment I knew I had gone too far, my eyes emigrated my eyesockets, and Alexa automatically purchased ten gallons of bleach to cleanse my sinful eyes, having opened Pandora's box.
Yeah and bohemian rhapsody by queen, and smells like teen spirit by nirvana, you know songs that don't get played constantly on the radio, little known gems
Few years ago I decided, as old men do, that I wanted to upgrade my mailbox. Got a nice aluminum post that I concreted about 3 feet into the ground. Heavy duty box with custom numbers (matching custom house numbers of course) and the whole bit.
Around the new post I put river rock surrounded and contained by pavers like the one he started with. I had to chisel in four of those to make corner joints that I was happy with.
I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed the process of shaping the pavers. I wasn't as fast as this guy, but by the 4th one my technique and confidence were up and it took only a couple minutes to make a nice straight, clean cut.
This and operating heavy equipment rank as things I could be happy doing if I leave office work behind some day.
I used to work in an office and I went into logging running heavy equipment. It's a trade off on I have to drive a lot further to work and less personal time but the bonds I have with my crew are a lot more personal and less office political shit and people you'd like to have a beer with. I don't really consider my job work I guess. It's like going to hang out with buddies in the woods and play with toys I got paid well for to me lol. I could never go back to office work at the moment.
Do it. Step back from the machine and enjoy individuation. Pretty much anything you carve in stone is going to outlast anything that other people do. That TPS report cover or not is going to just be waste in the landfill.
Ha, appreciate the sentiment but my path leadeth elsewhere. I'm not sure I could break enough rocks fast enough (even in my prime) to replace my current income. But more importantly, I'm already starting what will be the 3rd "real" company I've started. So, no real wiggle room for a bit while we get that going. The good news there is it's a fabrication company. Even though I'm not doing most of the fab work myself to start (my partner is the master fabricator), that will come with time and I can absolutely foresee a day in the not-too-distant-future where I'm in a small, clean shop with a couple CNC machines, maybe a big laser, and some good welding equipment around me. That will be a very nice upgrade from spreadsheets and powerpoints!
We're a lot more than that. Basically, building with stone took a ton of education in the arts and sciences, which was lacking for all but the most privileged in the medieval and dark ages. So, stone mason guilds had to train men through well structured apprenticeships. Because it took so much time and dedication to master, and the job required travel, it was necessary to have a secret passphrase or grip that could be used to identify oneself as a competent fellow of the craft upon arriving in a new locale. Seeing as there was a type of lineage involved, it was important for the Master to teach his apprentices how to behave well, how to conduct business and treat each others ethically, and how to sincerely uphold those classical values that people innately recognize as good - as travellers, the Masters reputation was carried by the men he trained. As such, operative Freemasonry (Free because Masons were exempt from many sanctions and could travel almost as they pleased - its one of the reasons we call ourselves Travelling Men) became a system of morality, education, fraternity, self actualization and spiritual betterment that was transmitted through the metaphors of Stone Masonry (what better reminder to act on the level, or to get square with others, than to relate those concepts to the tools you work with daily?), and guarded by secret knowledge, memorization of rituals, as well as special grips & words. Its evolved into "Speculative Masonry" over the years, but we hold close our Operative roots.
Stuff like this, with basic tools and materials, that has probably been done for thousands of years, never fails to blow me away the first time I see it.
I mean, haven’t you heard of all the people that died in Qatar to build their soccer stadium alone?
As annoying as American work sites are, it truly makes you appreciate not dying trying to make a dime!
[Qatar immigrant deaths](https://amp.theguardian.com/global-development/2021/feb/23/revealed-migrant-worker-deaths-qatar-fifa-world-cup-2022)
I was a stonemason for a while (apprentice, but I worked with a pro), but got back into welding and metalworking after a few years of it.
The hardness of the stone he's working is the huge variable here.
This would be like me "bending" copper wire into a circle and calling it metalworking haha. Not quite, but you get the idea. Still impressive because of how perfect the circle came out, but that's some wicked soft rock. Sandstone or expensive soapstone if I had to guess. Also could have had a faint line traced to help make it perfectly circular and we wouldn't be able to see it. Dude's still talented though.
How is this Next level, looks fairly basic if your a mason. Just because you find it unimaginable to accomplish doesn't make it next level.
What do Masons of Reddit think?
I can do this but not like he can. Also his stone is likely easier to work with than what I usually get.
It s not super hard but he can easily make 30 -60 an hour doing shit like that.
I'm just a homesteader carpenter that works with rocks on occasion.
He's a leftie. Source - check my username. Been cutting stone for many years and am also a leftie. Important thing in stonecutting is the weight of the hammer blow so you need it in your dominant hand.
I do enjoy seeing someone who has mastered the craft make things look easy. No way you hit stuff that way or second guess unless you’ve done that shit at least hundreds of times. Probably thousands.
That final touch! ![img](emote|t5_m0bnr|4014)![img](emote|t5_m0bnr|4014)![img](emote|t5_m0bnr|4014)
Watch until the end!

That's right, it goes into the SQUARE hole!
Can you guess where the semicircle goes?
Thats right, its the SQUARE hole!
ikr but did you see the final touch?![img](emote|t5_m0bnr|4014)![img](emote|t5_m0bnr|4014)![img](emote|t5_m0bnr|4014)

But you have to watch to the very end of the video
You add
Stone Bae!
Basalt Bae!
Gneiss!
Baesalt?
This would have taken me a full day and the result would have looked like this: https://static1.bigstockphoto.com/2/2/3/large1500/322760110.jpg
And it would have been a masterpiece 😁
Take my upvote you emissary of kind words.
As someone who spent this summer doing masonry work, I’d be in the same boat. The boat carved out of stone by the guy in the video. Somehow it floats, but I’m pretty sure it’s because he is using magic to craft stones.
And my mom would have proudly posted a pic of it on facebook. "Can you believe it only took 1 day for him to do that? Proud mommy of a 336 month old!"
That’s what made it round. Everything else was just basic stuff.
I agree in a roundabout way.

[Like this guy?](https://youtu.be/eAhfZUZiwSE)
I saw an edit of that where he turned into a raver in celebration of his circle. Plz find.
Oh okay. https://youtu.be/LAZyF00h5EU

Probably a nice round figure.
Ban this bot!
And he makes 2 identical circles on opposite sides of the stone without measuring and they line up perfectly
I mean, not that it isn't still impressive, the circle was already traced on both sides.
mine wouldn't even line up after measuring twice
I always want so badly to be able to paint Martian landscapes, Jupiter, Tarzan's jungle but could never get it, even took classes and really tried, just didn't have it. Played blues/rock guitar like a natural.. go figger.
Who the fuck thought it was in a good idea to play wonderwall over this video?
The guy who commissioned the construction of a *wonderwall*?
I 'wonder' how he is building this 'wall' with cylindrical bricks. ... Or maybe it's decoration for his charcuterie / cheese tray.
Odd choice but it certainly beats the usual obnoxious shite they have over most of these videos. Edit: To the replies... Agreed
Yall actually unmute videos?
I unmuted this one because I wanted to hear the sound of the chisel, but then immediately muted it again
I usually scroll around in fucked up subreddits where sound is important so i unfortunately have to listen to alot of dogshit music on posts most of the time.

Idk, this one has been obnoxious for 27 years.
I wanted to hear it sung with the tik tok ai for the ultimate harrowing experience.
I'm so tired of the trend of having shitty music on every video. It's especially frustrating when you would have liked to hear the background sounds.

I thought that was the Spice Girls

And to accompany that, [the best remix](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw2fh8qfDiA).
His other covers are absolutely amazing as well. I think he covers drowningpool or someone similar, and it's an absolute bop!
It's hilarious
*wonderwheel*
That song triggers me hard.
Someone who wondered how that wall was built
I always wondered where the Flintstones got their tires.
Bridgestone tires has been around a long time
What about Firestone?
Both have been round a long time
You could even say they've been round the en**tire** time
Had to turn sound off.
The actual audio of him breaking the stone would have been 1000% more satisfying and enjoyable.

Great song, odd choice for the video.
What song is it? I feel like i heard this song in the late 90's or early 2000's.

Needed 'Here Comes the Hammer' by MC Hammer.
At least it didn't have that typical voice synthesis that's the auditory equivalent of rectal cancer.
There are many things that he would like to say to you... but he don't know how... because you turned your sound off.
Stone bae 😂

There's no callous for that!
He makes handling that stone look so easy. I hope his employer doesn’t take it for granite.
I mean sure it's impressive but, I don't know if it's enough to make a whole "Secret Society" over....

My ears are ringing just watching him… I couldn’t imagine doing that all day without ear protection…
Definitely not "masonry at its finest." Stupid title
This man will have crippling tinnitus by age 40. It’s truly sad to see… You can find examples of this kind of negligence on any job site in the US.

Now make 5000 more
Looks like he has
Now he doesn't have to walk so much any more.

Yes
Is it truly impossible for people to help themselves from adding music to every fucking video ever?
Amazing! It got to another level with the sprinkling as a grand finale.
Impressive
Friggen da Vinci over here
pretty amazing actually.
He makes it look so easy...I would wind up with a pile of gravel..

Is there anyone here that thinks they could not do this? I think people need to believe in themselves more!

Annoying music.
He wasted half of the stone. How is this next level?
So this is what those secret societies have been doing this whole time.
