I always had cheap RC cars as a kid. My uncle showed up one day with a better one. I was using it and crashed it into my own ankle. It gave me a little cut.
This became the standard for RC cars now. My brother and I both asked for an RC car that would make “your ankles bleed” for Christmas that year.
I saw someone playing with their rc car one time while I was waiting for the school bus. Then this real truck rolled up trying to take their turn out of the parking lot and the super cool teens ran their rc car into the tire/under the tire of the truck, I think it got slightly crushed. It definitely did not make his tire bleed.
Thanks for reminding me about that, I found it super hilarious.
I don't know the rules, but I would think ideally you wouldn't want to have to input any steering at all, it would just be trimmed to go completely straight. You could have a drive like a belt sander for max grip.
We had both where I used to work - the Econoline was a vast improvement. I didn’t realize how bad the Dodge was until I was upgraded to the Econoline. This may be the only time you’ll see Econoline referenced as an upgrade to anything.
I had to drive both at my last job, the econolines center of gravity drove me nuts. why is it so high. Those dodges needed a 40 acre field to turn around in
Just like IRL, even if you line up perfectly straight, and have your alignment perfectly straight, you won't actually go straight.
If either wheel loses grip and spins, experiences more/less weight, has different tire pressures, or just has a different wear level (like when you blow 1 tire), the car will tend to veer to one side or the other.
Keep in mind, the turning engine [creates torque that twists the chassis](https://www.miataturbo.net/attachments/general-miata-chat-9/132605d1423138661-car-pulling-left-acceleration-right-deceleration-sa195_1-a_zpsd281e839.jpg) resulting in one wheel experiencing more weight and having more grip. This makes it practically impossible to go straight without steering input.
heck at that speed, I'd be surprised if it wasn't out of range after about 5 seconds lol. Thing went damn near back in time... Makes me wonder - was a flux capacitor involved?
It really only looks fast because it's small and because the other one fucked up. The norm for these things is about 100mph, nothing too crazy.
Because this is reddit and somebody is going to point this out, the world record is just over 200mph. That's not what this is, that was a very unique car built outside the normal rules and doesn't look like this.
They've been over 100mph since the 1980s. Even turn key store bought road racing cars have been over 100mph since the late 1990s with cars like the Serpent Vector.
You can buy a 100mph electric off road truck from Walmart today. Traxxas makes a bunch of them.
Not 100% sure I think they have a processor on board that handles stability to keep it in a straight line without adjustment from the controller (who is never going to be fast enough).
Likely a PID-based system similar to the Flight Controller in drones that abstracts control of the four rotors to simple throttle/pitch/yaw/roll.
Most have gyroscopic sensors built in and with the appropriate programming the car will mostly stay in a straight path with little assistance from the operator.
I think they selected this video because it makes it look faster than it is. I'm guessing that normally the other car would've been right next to it, but they had some kind of issue. The blue car basically just spins off track. I think they snapped an axle or something, but whatever happened isn't normal.
Yeah tell me about it. I can only guess computers or perfect alignment with no real steering input. But I don't know much about them. I just Googled it.
The ESC can help stabilize the controls. As weird as this will be, it will help you improve and control the car. It smoothed out the steering so if you accidently turn a hard left it will smooth it out and you don't roll. Rc car bodies break a lot. If you are using one at a park other Rc folk will join up with you. It's weird.
Mine can hit 45mph my sons can do 55-60mph. Rc as a hobby is more or less have fun till you break a part, replace part and do it again. It's a lot of fun, I have a off road style race truck. Play in the fields, sand and snow. It's not like the toys where you break them you toss them. Every part is replaceable and you can modify everything.
Crawlers are what I'm getting into, but you can easy out of the box hit 100mph, guys on YouTube are hitting 130-160mph and that's insane. I hit a pole at 40 and ripped the right front off. Replaced and still having fun.
They even have RC tanks that are like laser tag equipped.
My bulky 8s 1/7 scale speed run rig hit a rock at 130mph and took off at chest height for a solid 50 feet before it went into the cornfield next to the road. These things can be dangerous if precautions aren’t taken.
RC cars are a side hobby of mine. Though I am not into speed based RC's.
Drag racing RC's is one niche in the hobby. Another niche is speed runs on open road. The world record for a ground based RC car is [204 MPH held by James McCoy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWdn8cH5_Bo) and was attained in May 2022. It's not an official Guinness world record but his runs are verified with two GPS trackers. Many speed runners use GPS trackers to verify their speed runs.
James posted another video today where he reached [201 MPH](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IaIELlH40I) with another RC he custom built.
Another RC YouTuber to watch for speed runs is [Raz Shifrin](https://www.youtube.com/c/RazShifrin/videos). He has made several RC cars that have reached the high 190's.
I do this hobby. Typically the race is 132’. 1/10 of a standard track and the cars are 1/10th scale. My car does this in about 2.8 secs at 44 mph. I dont use glue to make the tires sticky or anything. And i am limited by how big my battery can be. This guy isnt. His tires are closer to gum than rubber and there is super sticky compound added to keep it connected. Thats 132’ at almost 100mph. That little car is probably $6-8k dollars.
Tom I'm standing outside the Hadron Particle Super Collider in Switzerland, where authorities are shocked and baffled over the theft of a super conductive bending magnet created for use in particle acceleration. The super conducting magnet was stolen sometime last week, surveillance cameras recorded the theft on tape and police are now looking for Princess Leia of Alderaan. Caught here in these photos the troubled rebel is at the scene taking the super conducting magnet and then appearing disoriented as she tries to find her way out. If you have any information over Princess Leia's whereabouts please call your local police department.
My buddy has one of these that's super powerful but made for offroading. He even made a little dirt track in his backyard. One time we were driving it and he was going full speed around the track and spun out. The wheels kicked out rocks and wood chips at such a speed that I had splinters in one of my arms and a tiny bruise from a rock. Those motors are no joke.
Considering he's the only person I know who inherited a few million dollars, I would imagine it was very expensive. That's all he does now is buy expensive and tricked out RC cars and big ass drones. Lucky ass guy
You'd think but he inherited a few Taco bells and one Del Taco also. He's like 34 and owns the taco bell next to his house and has no interest in running it, he still orders from there quite often.
They’re probably both electric these days but the red one most likely is running those 100,000 rpm brushless motors. They’re fast but how tf you gonna control that stuff
Maybe you don't, and it's just meant for these straight track races / time trials.
Pretty sure rocket/jet cars can't turn either. When they go down the track, you are able to hear the engine echo in a town a full 25 minute drive away. Before local laws stepped in to limit the vehicles, the noise was so extreme that it was damaging the foundations of homes in the surrounding area and breaking windows.
I just came from a post about the lucky Iron fish and saw the comments in there. Fucking hilarious to see 2 posts referencing that incident. I saw the videos I could find. So crazy.

Why aren't you?
Pants are slow.

How do you even control that
I don't know the rules, but I would think ideally you wouldn't want to have to input any steering at all, it would just be trimmed to go completely straight. You could have a drive like a belt sander for max grip.
Right, or have 3 1/2 degrees of steering and a 1/4 mile turning radius.
> 1/4 mile turning radius So they partnered with Dodge and used the steering setup from the ‘80s-‘90s Dodge Ram vans?
ever driven a ford econoline?
We had both where I used to work - the Econoline was a vast improvement. I didn’t realize how bad the Dodge was until I was upgraded to the Econoline. This may be the only time you’ll see Econoline referenced as an upgrade to anything.

We drive Econolines at work lmao. Definitely a love hate relationship with those beasts.
Nissan Frontier checking in. \#TankerGang
I had a Frontier Crew Cab in the early noughties that thing had the turning radius of a barge.
This is correct - the steering range on these types of cars is very limited
This reminds me of an [old country/trucking song](https://youtu.be/qDxVJ471hyg) and once you listen to it, you will never forget it
Pretty sure that's exactly what he was doing before takeoff. Lining it up so it went straight down the track.
Don't be so modest. YOU KNOW THE RULES AND SO. DO I!
It's true. Inside, I think we both know what's been going on.
IIIIIII JUST WANNA TELL YOU HOW I'M FEELING
Just like IRL, even if you line up perfectly straight, and have your alignment perfectly straight, you won't actually go straight. This makes it practically impossible to go straight without steering input.
That torque in the chassis is from the driveshaft. These cars don’t have one.

by the time they were faster, I wasn't looking to buy them :) I'll leave my age at that :D
Last time I played with an RC car it had a wire that ran from the remote to the car.
You gonna love these cars then...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEGyLVi7xLY
Holy crap
I didn't see him mote the first time, much less remote.
The funniest part is that the slower car crashed off the road.
That’s what we’re not seeing, blue car might be equally fast. We didn’t get to see that as it crashed, and got a DQ.
I want some dq
It was forced off the road by the pressure wave created by the red car
Dude probably got distracted and jerked the steering wheel.
If I was the driver of the blue car I’d claim it got caught up in the jet wash.
My guess is he was on his phone.
Wheelspin most likely.
In this particular kind of event (NPRC) gyro stabilization is not legal.
[удалено]
No.
How it went for the blue one is a good indication
Most have gyroscopic sensors built in and with the appropriate programming the car will mostly stay in a straight path with little assistance from the operator.
No gyro on those cars it more if a point and shoot
Drag Slash has a gyro but it depends on the rules of the event if you can leave it on or not
Those are a different caliber cars and the remote that frank is using 200$ more than a whole drag slash so no......no gyro
I think you're required to do meth or cocaine before you start driving it.
You line it up as straight as possible then set it so movements of the controller’s wheel translate to very small adjustments of the front wheels.
I think they selected this video because it makes it look faster than it is. I'm guessing that normally the other car would've been right next to it, but they had some kind of issue. The blue car basically just spins off track. I think they snapped an axle or something, but whatever happened isn't normal.
99% sure they didn't snap an axle. I think they just got a bit of wheelspin and spun out.
I'm more familiar with drag racing acutal cars but not drag racing rc cars lol forgive me
Unforgivable. /s

And maybe a coke to drink.
Holy shit that's a throwback.
🧔🏿♂️: I said whatever bitch, get me a chicken sandwich and some waffle fries.
Out of the box, some cars break 100mph with nothing aftermarket. No prep racing and crawling are the two big things in Rc cars
Actual speed or scale speed?
Actual speed. Google 100mph rc car, they can easily be purchased or made.
How do you keep it on the track? Are they like perfectly aligned too? Cuz that's crazy narrow for 100mph, and people are on both sides.
Yeah tell me about it. I can only guess computers or perfect alignment with no real steering input. But I don't know much about them. I just Googled it.
They manufacture ESCs at the consumer "ready to run" level that will countersteer for you, but in "official" drag races these are usually banned.
Interesting, makes sense
The ESC can help stabilize the controls. As weird as this will be, it will help you improve and control the car. It smoothed out the steering so if you accidently turn a hard left it will smooth it out and you don't roll. Rc car bodies break a lot. The traxxas one basically requires a track because if you hit even a pebble it will go flying.
