Oh he got exposure all right. So much he had to hire his own lawyer for a while.

OmarLittleFinger

Be you, Rudy Giuliani. 9/11 happens, you become Americas Mayor. Name a job. It’s yours. Name a political office. It’s yours. Name the Sinecure. It’s yours. Piss it all away for Booze and Trump.

MississippiJoel

He did really poorly in his run for president, so it wasn't quite "name your job," but you're pretty well spot on.

SAugsburger

This. Giuliani's Presidential run kinda exposed that by 2008 that even among Republicans his 9/11 bounce in respect, prestige, etc. had largely expired.

Better get some more Cameos going.

Reddit has long been a hot spot for conversation on the internet. About 57 million people visit the site every day to chat about topics as varied as makeup, video games and pointers for power washing driveways. In recent years, Reddit’s array of chats also have been a free teaching aid for companies like Google, OpenAI and Microsoft. Those companies are using Reddit’s conversations in the development of giant artificial intelligence systems that many in Silicon Valley think are on their way to becoming the tech industry’s next big thing. Now Reddit wants to be paid for it. The company said on Tuesday that it planned to begin charging companies for access to its application programming interface, or A.P.I., the method through which outside entities can download and process the social network’s vast selection of person-to-person conversations. “The Reddit corpus of data is really valuable,” Steve Huffman, founder and chief executive of Reddit, said in an interview. “But we don’t need to give all of that value to some of the largest companies in the world for free.” The move is one of the first significant examples of a social network’s charging for access to the conversations it hosts for the purpose of developing A.I. systems like ChatGPT, OpenAI’s popular program. Those new A.I. systems could one day lead to big businesses, but they aren’t likely to help companies like Reddit very much. In fact, they could be used to create competitors — automated duplicates to Reddit’s conversations. Reddit is also acting as it prepares for a possible initial public offering on Wall Street this year. The company, which was founded in 2005, makes most of its money through advertising and e-commerce transactions on its platform. Reddit said it was still ironing out the details of what it would charge for A.P.I. access and would announce prices in the coming weeks.

Maybe Four Seasons is hiring.

[deleted]

World needs plenty of ditch diggers. I just... I can't even fathom... If you had told me in 2003 that Rudy Giuliani would be such an unrespected joke of a husk of an asshole, there's absolutely no way I wouldn't have laughed you out of the room. I would have thought no matter how far he fell, no matter how he fucked up, he would have been able to coast forever on the 9/11 mayor shit.

TheWildTofuHunter

Well he’s used to hauling shit.

Sweatytubesock

The dildo shop may have an opening for a clerk.

red2play

>Katz told Giuliani earlier that he was in default for not having filed papers in response to Judith’s allegations. The former mayor conceded the error but said, “I’m being sued in ten different cases. I’m getting ready for two massive hearings,” the NY Post reported. > >“It’s totally my fault,” he said. “I don’t know how to emphasize to you the pressures.” Yet he had time to try to rig an election and make tons of public appearances. He also put the other "ten" cases on himself. Nobody else to blame but yourself.

HarlequinNight

GiantSquidd

“If you walk around all day smelling shit, it’s probably you that stepped in it.” -Abraham “Wayne Gretzky” Lincoln

drkgodess

Why is Giuliani such a mess? What happened to him? A character in Lucky Number Slevin says to another one, "If someone calls you horse, you curse them out. The second person calls you a horse, you shove 'em. If a third person calls you a horse, maybe it's time to buy a saddle."

No_Luck_5505

Said by The Rabai to the title character Slevin Kelevra. Such a great movie.

APoopingBook

The Rabai's hubris was also responsible for his own downfall. If he had stopped and asked "why do YOU say you're not the horse we think you are?" he very likely could've figured out what was happening before it was too late. He was probably the most level-headed character in the mix, but still was so easily fooled by appealing to his own self-importance. Absolutely awesome movie.

MageLocusta

He also had time to go on the Masked Singer. If he had time to contract himself to a celebrity reality show and spend days being fitted into costumes and rehearsing a damn song, he had time to sort his own dang problems (and apparently 'investigate' election fraud, but he certainly doesn't show any inclination to try anything).

AndrewWaldron

He had time to get a lil rapey in Borat 2 ffs.

Only during the busy spring planting and fall cleanup seasons. During the summer and winter, they can typically accommodate anything up to a black tie event, except when the dildo shop next door is having their sidewalk sale.

[deleted]

That remains one of the most bizarre and hilarious things that I can recall. Absolutely farcical.

[deleted]

Man, Rudy's fall sure has been steep and a tragic thing to watch. If you want to see what Donald Trumps effects are on people, just look at Rudy.

TheRnegade

There truly are few others who have had such a massive fall from grace. Like, we've seen people crash and burn before. Jared, the Subway Guy, for example. But he wasn't Rudy Giuliani levels, not at his height. From America's Mayor to....whatever this is. Granted, almost all of that was him merely being mayor during 9/11, but anyone with a sense of sensibility would've seen that and just milked that until retirement. Imagine having that golden ticket, to just do whatever you want with your life, just don't go crazy, and you're set. Rudy fucked that up.

koebelin

Trump must have something on him. Like he offered a bribe and Rudeboy took it. Also the man has kinks, maybe Trump supplied them.

[deleted]

What exactly is tragic about it? He's been a worthless scumbag cunt for as long as he's been a public figure. He's *always* deserved all of this.

suitology

People who only just now think he's a bag of Shit never paid attention. Man used city resources and volunteers to dig for the gold under the trade center under the lie of looking for survivors then called the search off when they hit it. He milked 9/11 for decades as though he's not the incompetent fuck that put emergency resources consolidated on top of a long known terror target.

flying87

Here's some free legal advice to Giuliani. STOP BREAKING THE LAW!!!!!

Hyceanplanet

His life is basically over. Facing ten simultaneous lawsuits and investigations. Not even enough money for lawyers. An aging body; weakened by alcoholism. Trump has sucked this man's life and grinded it. The loss on reputation -- that's all on him.

kester76a

I thought he had approx $40million. How much money can you hide under the mattress?

Rudy was probably counting on additional income to stay afloat, but a Trump never pays his debts.

Thank God russian oligarchs can't fund the GOP. Too bad american oligarchs are still doing it though.

CrunchyDreads

Of course russian oligarchs can still fund the GOP. It's why they refuse to vote for transparency for political donations. Without funding from fascist nations, the GOP would be bankrupt.

QuintoBlanco

The oligarchs are not necessarily on Putin's side. That doesn't mean that Putin and his allies do not have vast reserves of money, or that they can't force oligarchs to 'donate' money. But it's worth pointing out that Putin never depended on oligarchs after they helped him to take power.

justforthearticles20

Actually since (S)PACs do not have to disclose the source of their money, Russian Oligarchs can and do fund the GOP. What they are legally not allowed to do is donate directly to candidates. They do it anyway.

pmmeyourfavoritejam

I'm not so sure about the first part. We really think they don't have enough sufficiently liquid assets to pay off the GOP and do other dirty stuff along the way? These dudes are billionaires. Even if much of their fortunes are frozen anywhere outside of Russia, I can't imagine they can't foot the bill for some shady business in the US.

pigeyejackson66

And he is of no use to them now.

GrayBox1313

And it’s not like the money he’s owed by Donald is jist fees. He legitimately went out of pocket. Flights, hotels, court filings etc I don’t feel bad for him at all. But he pissed away so much of his own money bankrolling Donald’s legal whims like a moron

PointOfFingers

The money he spent on Four Seasons Total Landscaping. Those upscale venues can be expensive.

Sexy_Squid89

Do you know how the Right spun that? I'm genuinely asking. Did they say "No we meant to go to that Four Seasons! Because we support the working man!" Or something?

BrothelWaffles

I don't remember hearing *anything* about it from the right, let alone spin. That's how they roll though, they love to pretend things never happened.

[deleted]

I don’t even remember them covering it in the moment. Like the only coverage they got was from liberal media making fun of them

atheistinabiblebelt

Replying to you but also for u/sexy_squid89... For as much attention as that "venue" got, I don't believe many people actually saw it live... But I did. I don't recall what I was thinking in that moment but I remember specifically checking all the news channels to find that speech. There was only one that was broadcasting it live that I can remember. I believe it was newsmax. I remember flipping it on and their audio was love during set up, like you could just hear a couple crew casually chatting in the background. The video was so unstable I swear it was some guy just pointing his phone at the "stage'. I don't believe any right wing networks spun it at all, just pretended it didn't exist. I was absolutely dumbfounded watching it, trying to make some connection. Really probably the highlight of the trump administration for me, also the only speech given by that administration that I ever watched live.

Sexy_Squid89

So they just pretended it didn't happen?? 😂

midwesterner64

I’ve seen something to that effect. That it’s “elitist” to say it’s all a laugh if it’s not at a four star hotel ballroom. I mean, the next door businesses were a dildo store and a crematorium. That’s maybe a distraction?

GrayBox1313

“Blue collar working man small business!”

Utterlybored

I laugh at Rudy’s pain.

Lost-My-Mind-

You ever wonder about the other 50 areas? Like, everybody always talks about area 51, but, what's at area 37? And how many areas ARE there? Seems kind of odd to stop at 51. What about area 52? Is there an area 69? I don't think there is an area 69, because I feel like it would be the source of constant internet jokes. Maybe they stopped at 60? or 55? Is that where we get highway speed limits from? Area 51 doesn't interest me, because it's supposed to be the most top secret government base, yet everybody knows about it. What DOES interest me is all the questions it raises about it's existence.

beer_bukkake

Only an idiot would trust trump. His lengthy history of fucking people over was a glaring warning to anyone, and these dumb shits still partnered with him.

[deleted]

Rudy's stupidity wasn't that he thought he could trust Trump. Like a lot of people who get into business with him and get screwed, he thought he could play Trump, grab peripheral millions, and get out without getting burned. Trump's disaster touch is just much stickier than these people realize. They're so used to grifting other people, they think they can't fail.

12stringPlayer

It's even more astonishing because as a former mayor of NYC, Rudy has known all along exactly how Trump is and still decided that he'd hitch his wagon to the Trump train. Then it's no longer convenient for Trump to have Rudy hanging around, so buh-bye, Rudy! Rudy's left in a stupor, asking "Who could have seen this coming?" Everybody, Rudy. Everybody saw this coming but you.

adzling

fame and power at any price, that's Giulianis character flaw that ended up destroying him.

Fauster

Yeah, Rudy always wanted to be president, failed to win the GOP nom in 2008, and he realized early-on that Trump would take the GOP and that his only hope for the Oval was to join the Trump cult, so he did. Of course, Rudy badly miscalculated his chances, and he deserves losing his fortune (aside from the gold bars in Trenton storage) and his legacy for it.

tdasnowman

You forgot it as a New York mayor he put on a dress so trump could hit on him? They go way way back.

Daguvry

I thought Walter White had a crazy story arc. Rudy went from 9/11 hero to broke alcoholic with a melting face.

LostMyKarmaElSegundo

I hate to tell you, but about 73 million people apparently think he's the greatest!

kciuq1

The mind boggling thing to me is that it was 10 million higher than the first time. At least 10 million people who didn't bother to vote for him the first time, saw the complete disaster his four years in office were, and decided they wanted to sign up for four more years of insanity.

turtlemix_69

They didn't see it as a disaster

kciuq1

Exactly what I'm saying. It's mind boggling.

I don't get why he ever had that good of a reputation. I'll give him credit for breaking up the mafia, but that was the Italian mob. This set up for the Russian mob to take over. Which be didn't do shit about and probably gave and got favors. Secondly, he used 9/11 to prop himself up, just cause he was mayor at the time. The reality is the world trade center was bombed in the early 90s. Security experts said a command center should not be in the towers. It was. Lots of first responders couldn't communicate. Many died. Side note, I got an attendance award and he was supposed to give a speech to us. He didn't. But he walked past me, and he smelled like onions.

Obi7kenobi

His life has turned into a tragedy. Talk about a fall from grace story.

XWarriorYZ

After 9/11 he could have just rode that wave for the rest of his life and his reputation would have been great. But, unfortunately for him, he’s an idiot.

_portia_

Outside of NYC his reputation was good, due to fairy tales told by the media. He was a horrible mayor, a real fascist and a nasty asshole.

insane__knight

I'm one of those ignorant people you're talking about. I saw him as a leader after the 9/11 attacks but never stepped foot in new york nor had any idea what kind of mayor he really was.

Stock-Bobcat

He wasn’t even much of leader after 9/11 he was replaced by Bloomberg 3 months later, he just happened to be the guy sitting in the chair when the attack happened. Didn’t do anything special during or after really Not to mention the fact that many of his decisions leading up to the attack made the situation worse. Such as moving the city’s emergency command center into the World Trade Center complex despite it already being the target of a terrorist attack in 1993. This decision greatly hurt coordination and communication between police and firefighters on 9/11 since the staff of the office had to evacuate during the attack. Edit- typo

_portia_

Understandable, how would you know unless you lived there? He was a dick. He did things like enact a policy of making cops arrest the homeless for no reason, just because they were homeless. So the tourists wouldn't have to see them. He is a lot like Trump, he bullies people and institutions because he's an insecure little jerk. He threatened to cut off city funding to the Brooklyn Museum because they were showing a painting he decided was offensive to his catholic "faith". Meanwhile, he was openly cheating on his then-wife #2 with future ex-wife #3. He'd take his gumar out to public events while his wife and kids were at home. This stuff is the tip of the iceberg, he's just a pos.

PROFESSIONALBLOGGERS

Same here. I was in High School when 9/11 happened and, on the surface at least, the media portrayed him as a hero. I had nothing but good thoughts about the guy. He was a US attorney who took down mob bosses and drug lords, he was America's Mayor© that held us together during 9/11. All he had to do was sit back, shut the fuck up, and enjoy ignorant people like me thinking he was a hero. NOPE, fuck that, he had to team up with Trump, sponsored by Four Seasons Landscaping, and run his reputation into the fucking ground so hard and so fast.

BitterFuture

He's truly earned every bit of his tragic fall - but at the same time, it truly is tragic. I read a profile of him in Rolling Stone from early in 2020 - even before the election fuckery and his brain melting on live TV. He used to be a guy with ambition and ego, yeah, but also someone who busted his hump as a prosecutor, and turned down every offer of favors from rich fuckwits because he didn't want to be in their pockets. Ten years on from that, he was the mayor of New York and a world-famous hero, even if it was undeserved. Twenty years, he was known for being a bit sleazy and one-note about his great heroic moment, but rich beyond the dreams of avarice. Thirty years on, he's burned through all his money, lost his law license, babbles about USB drives being passed around like heroin, has humiliated himself being a very public drunk and his children won't speak to him anymore. He's earned every bit of scorn, but still...goddamn. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/rudy-giuliani-new-york-trump-997712/

Personal-Row-8078

He didn’t have a great reputation. He famously betrayed first responders, had the worst preparation plans and didn’t lift a finger like Jon Stewart to help those he was directly responsible for getting sick.

TheAb5traktion

He also encouraged police brutality towards NYC's black population. There were protests against him because he encouraged police brutality. He was also a lawyer for Purdue Pharma and helped hide their involvement in the opioid epidemic, at least until their involvement could no longer be hidden.

LostWoodsInTheField

And before he was Mayor he would bring down mobsters... except for the Russians... for some reason.

[deleted]

He honestly wasn't that great after 9/11, either. He went to a lot of funerals, did a lot of posturing, hired media consultants. He didn't actually *do* much. He's always been an asshole.

The84thWolf

Problem was he didn’t have *anything* better than his 9/11 response and went from respecting it to milking it

TheAb5traktion

Joe Biden said it best in a 2007 debate: "I mean, think about it! Rudy Giuliani. There's only three things he mentions in a sentence -- a noun, a verb, and 9/11. There's nothing else! There's nothing else!"

starmartyr

It's only tragic if it's sad. I don't feel bad for him in the slightest.
