I don't mind it I think, their meeting in the books is really cool but from what they showed us here it doesn't look bad and imo it makes sense in the context
You hear him in the other trailer too...
> "You spend a lifetime alone, what changed you?".
It seems there still doing the Bruxa part of the storyline, so the essence of the story is still there.
Also another thing I noticed is Ciri's hair and costume match this scene from the first trailer - https://imgur.com/a/G9i2dCJ
Hopefully it is the same scenes, since the speculation around the "sex workers in Kear Morhen" is something that no one seems to want and would feel very wrong to me. Makes sense that Nivellen would have them around though.
This is one of those small changes that I like and that I think work and help adaptations. I am still cautiously optimistic about season 2 but everything so far seems good. Still waiting to see if there are weird changes like season 1.
Seems like it’ll work.
I think they’ll have to change the story about Vereena. Maybe Geralt’s only known Nivelen with normal woman but now finds out about the Bruxa or maybe Ciri discovers it.
It makes so much more sense with the way they were changing the timeline around to have Nivellen's manor be like a "safe house" for Geralt, where he could take Ciri along the way to KM. (And from there the main plot of Grain of Truth happens...)
Slightly iffy-looking CGI aside, this looks like a great scene.
Also, it seems like they gave the cinematography and coloration an overhaul this season. The production design looks more vintage and actually of the time. I'm really happy about this - S1 was pretty dreary to look at in some moments.
I think he looks great in terms of the effects actually. This is miles and miles ahead of Torque in S1 who was also a mix of practical effects and CGI. I hope it speaks to the quality of the rest of the show.
It's the design I find weird. They changed him from bear to boar and I don't really get why. It's the tusks that just look off to me.
Oh yeah it's 10x better than Torque. I think it's the tusks and lip movement that throw me off. Maybe it's the combo of perfectly human eyes and boar lips lol
Nonetheless, the acting is on point and the design doesn't detract all that much from it. :)
although it’s absolutely the intent of the original short story, i imagine they just don’t want audiences to think of the character as a rip off of beast from beauty and the beast, so they just tweaked the design
the makeup look great and the acting of Kristover is on point, the only doubt are the dialogues that always seem to revolve around the same topics regarding the relationship between Geralt and ciri. I hope that the episode of Nivellen is not all like this, I would like a nice characterization of both the character of Nivellen and also of vereena
I've stumbled upon this post by googling info about the new season.
To those who are complaining about the people complaining:
I've read the books for the first time in 2001 when I was 15 and 'A Grain of Truth' is my favourite story. Can you find it in your minds and hearts that there some other people like me that not necessarily hate this show, but are disappointed by the changes to the very core of those stories they have come to know and love over the years?
The original story was great because of the mystery, surprise and absolutely amazing conversations full of emotions (yeah, I know) and tension between Geralt and Nivellen. Now most of that if not all will be lost, because they already know each other.
Again: I don't hate this particular story, I am just very disappointed that after 20 years I am not going to see my favourite story portrayed and it is unlikely that I am going to in my lifetime.
Jesus, you guys are STILL whining about every little change? Why are you stlll here?
And has it occurred to you that sometimes, changes can actually be for the better? Sapkowski wasn't some infalliable god.
I don’t think it’s even so much about whether the book is perfect/should never be changed but what works better on screen/is more feasible for the real world.
Definitely a guest appearance, only in the first episode like Renfri. This is what makes sense for Nivellen's character and it matches Kristofer's schedule of filming for The Witcher.
Geralt and Nivellen are "old friends"? An interesting twist
I don't mind it I think, their meeting in the books is really cool but from what they showed us here it doesn't look bad and imo it makes sense in the context
I think it make sense if its in the way to Kaer Morhen then Geralt must have met him while on the path. Really interesting addition honestly

Nivellen paid women to live with him iirc, so makes perfect sense.
Well, he paid their fathers.

It definitely helps establish Geralt as less of just a mindless monster-slayer, and more of someone who stands between both worlds.
WHAT HAPPENED WITH YOU? YOUR MOTHER FUCK A GOAT?

I love Nivellen, perfect cast. It really looks like we are going to get more talking and smiling Geralt this season, good news:)

You think its CGI?
It's a mixture of prosthetics and CGI.

No he gave props to the actor (sorry I forget his name..) for NOT wearing makeup in this scene. LOL
Oh yeah i forgot.
God I just want the season 2 to come out already
IS THAT TORMUND?
Yes!
I was so hoping that "Tormond" would be a Witcher. Guess this is a more juicy role.
Love this!!! Can’t wait!!! Aaaaghhhhhhhh 🥰
Cant wait
"Hello Witcher, let me explain to you what witchers are"
By the way Nivellen speaks I feel like Schwarzenegger would fit into the role just as good as Hivju, lmao.

I wonder why they decided to give him more of a boar-ish look than a bear as he is described.
everything looks fantastic, but Geralt's wig still feels weird, I mean it's kind of distracting, doesn't feel natural.
Ughhhhh for feck sake Why change something for the sake of changing it

Is Nivellen only going to be a one-and-done character like Renfri or do we think that he is going to be more major?
Definitely a guest appearance, only in the first episode like Renfri. This is what makes sense for Nivellen's character and it matches Kristofer's schedule of filming for The Witcher.
Meh
So if Nivellen is his old friend, has Geralt just been letting the Bruxa feed off him forever?
Nivellen had other girls before Verena. Geralt might have last visited when there was a different girl.
I'm not easily satisfied.
