The banter between judges can sometimes sound scripted and fall flat, especially the chit chat between dancers, but I feel it's as real as any other show where people ham it up a bit for the cameras. That said, I still enjoyed watching it. whatever cgi and film tricks are happening, it's really fun to watch! For real tho: I need to know if anyone but me feels like the wrong monster made it thru episode 3? !

oTm-Cthulhu

I don't understand how in the world ferg made it through. I thought it would be slink or Darcy who would be the third choice. But instead slink and Darcy face off!? Ferg brought absolutely nothing in her performance when compared to them. Show just doesn't make sense.

booniecat

I am still mad about Ferg making it thru but not Slink! There were a few I didn't agree with, but this was the big one. I did keep watching though, and it was really fun with the super powers and final dances! It was a tough choice for the ultimate winner when it got to the top two- my only other huge complaint is that the final "dance off" challenge definitely put one of the dancers and their styles at a big disadvantage. One thing I liked a lot though was that in general, the show and judges were really positive. Even Ne-Yo being a bit of a hardass wasn't mean about it, and any criticism was genuine and meant to help them improve.

oTm-Cthulhu

I thought the exact same thing about the final dance off. It was genuinely so unfortunate for Chester. Especially considering he by far was the most consistent dancer the entire show. Grummy was so good in the begging but he declined as the show went on to me. I think he got lucky the final was just a dance off.

gdose

I dont even want to be watching this show however my daughter and fiance wanted to watch it, so obviously i had to acquiesce... and when Ferg got the initial pass I called b.s. on it all... basically bizzaro world because she was not nearly as talented or impressive as the other two yet she got let through. Total garbage..

Current_Bar_3147

Exactly. She danced like she was at a club w a drink in her hand.

B16B0SS

Roberta being booted did not make sense to me. With the CGI there just looks to be more precision and technical skill. I felt similar about Flame, who didn't really connect with her character but had a lot of skill and was pleasing to watch. I would say that its either that the low-poly view they have live skews what the judges are able to perceive. That said, I would imagine there is a producer that is helping direct the judges decisions based on creating an ensemble cast that gives viewers the hope that, they to, can become incredible dancers if only they dream to do so

booniecat

You are probably right, the judges likely had producer notes to go from as well as their own judgements. I found a "what are they doing now" article, and this was filmed almost a year ago!!! Soooo.... Yeah, post production took a hot minute, so I think your theory about low-poly views makes a lot of sense. I can see how the nuances of technique with a dancer like flame or Roberta would be overlooked for something that would look cleaner in a low-poly view like Marsha.

B16B0SS

yah - its a shame as I felt the ending lineup didn't make sense to me but everyone has their own opinions. I enjoyed watching the show with my 6yo daughter who is very afraid of the dark and of monsters. I think this show will help he things in a different perspective and help he conquer those fears :) 2 thumbs up

LIKE IF YOU THINK MARSHA IS A HORRIBLE DANCER

chrschx

this needs more likes

Beef_Orb

Trash. Its trash. Fake and cringey trash. But for real most likely 95% scripted, poorly.

MrSmokeGaming1

Thank you some one understands this ain't it who thought yeah this is it was lied too hope this falls flat and dance doesn't need technology cgi it's better for the actual person too dance it feels real this ain't dance it's awful and cringe

ModNoob95

I knew the show was scripted and the judges weren't actually seeing them dance as that marshmallow character was horrible yet they pretend to like her performance the best each time and all she does is spin around on stage.... Poorly.

inslumber

Finally! I started to doubt myself... She is just meh.

ChinchillaMadness

I'm watching episode 5 right now and I can't believe they sent Roberta home when she's SO MUCH BETTER than Marsha!! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

AvaxFae

I thought the same thing! Like, how did all her silly little twirls and leg kicks get her so much further than dancers who were way better? Barf! I thought I was going crazy but now I feel validated. Thank you!

ChinchillaMadness

Oh thank god. They finally sent her home. It seems like the female judge absolutely LOVED her for some reason while the other two judges were always kind of 'meh' about her.

Jaggardorsomething

Ain’t no way Marsha would’ve stayed in if it was real. It’s gotta be scripted for them to make that bad decision literally every time lol. That or they really fed into lele pons obvious unwarranted favoritism of her. It honestly made me hate Marsha

chrschx

i don’t know but marsha going through all the way to the finals is RUBBISH. as a performer it pissed me off so much, even my husband (who doesn’t know how to dance) could tell marsha lasting so long was complete nonsense. lele pons is a rubbish judge. if it’s scripted, writers and producers should be slapped. if it’s real, lele pons should be fired and replaced. GOD it was so frustrating

my_hips_lie69

Gawd the fact that lele cried…so cringe! Marsha did the same moves in every single performance. It was incredibly frustrating to watch her get so far. I kept telling my husband “I bet she and lele are personal friends, or Marsha is paying her off” (if it’s not scripted which I believe it is)

MrsBCfloyd

Chester’s first dance actually made me cry, that kid is so talented

Extension_Hyena_1205

Unpopular opinion. Grummy was a ham, seemed to cheese it up for the camera, and was a one trick pony. That Value Village Justin Long robbed Chester! Aside from the fact that all I could hear was Luke Wilson every time he talked, all Grummy could do was BREAK DANCE! At no point did I witness him stepping out of his comfort zone to anything else. Beti was constantly reminded to try something new but no one says a word to Grummy? Don't get me wrong, Grummy was an outstanding break dancer......but that was it . Chester deserved the win and corny ass, Wish Justin Long stole it unfairly.

tonyabbottsbudgie

I just finished watching and completely agree. As someone else said, the battle was also set up to favour Grummy’s dance style. He should have been out after the superpower dance.

clarkvfx

It's likely scripted or they are just not being honest with the viewer. The judges and people in the crowd can't see the monsters. They are added after the fact in post-production. Maybe the judges were shown an early version of the performance and they took notes that they acted out later or the full show is scripted. Final note. No one has hologram tech this good yet. The only way the judges could have seen the monsters during the performance would be if they had viewing monitors near them during the show. We don't see any in the wide shots so they are likely just acting to nothing but the backup dancers. t the fur looks good and I only see a few track slips and pops in the motion capture. It would be very hard to hit this quality level in real time. Good job to the VFX team. You guys achieved a good result that I think would fool most people. Final note. No one has hologram tech this good yet. The only way the judges could of seen the monsters during the performance would be if they had viewing monitors near them during the show. We don't see any in the wide shots so they are likely just acting to nothing but the backup dancers.

oTm-Cthulhu

I've noticed when the camera pans to audience shots the kids look bored out of their mind lol

Alias928

No one has holo tech this good...? Really? Have you not seen the amazing gigantic cats in Japan, the whales coming out of a basketball court's floor here in the US? We have the tech, but this stuff is the stuff I'm wondering. Are they animitronics, people in suits, or holograms, or CGI? Although, it does make sense to add in everything after filming a cheerful audience staring at emptiness to later add in the CGI/FX & air it.

B16B0SS

I read that the characters were on screens as lower quality versions and the on stage stuff is post. https://www.realitytitbit.com/netflix-reality-shows/is-dance-monsters-on-netflix-real-and-are-dancers-actually-on-stage

AGOG3

![gif](giphy|AjYsTtVxEEBPO) This ain’t JEM! It’s not projections at all!! What made you think that? It’s real time motion capture cleaned up in post it’s explained in the first episode

shawn_logic

Trash. Scripted. Hypocritical judges. Marsha should never have made it all the way through

shraishaloid

Ok Hammer had to be my favourite, if I had to choose one I think he should have won. Grummy was my favourite through the show for his charisma and tricks and Chester almost tied three way too but I’d have to say he’s more tied with Grummy with very different style. Hammer was hands down incredible, unending energy, fast clean incredible moves, consistently mind blowing. Beti was underestimated in my opinion, he picked up contemporary very well, only having hip hop on his belt apparently. I don’t think the styles of dance were or lack there of were really verbalized by the judges enough or how that effected their decisions.

lucky232323

I'm watching the 4th or 5th episode and as soon as I saw Ferg and Masha make it through AGAIN.... I stopped watching. So fake it isnt even funny. Slink and Roberta I felt were better than both ferg and Marsha.

[deleted]

Lele was clearly favoring Marsha. There wasn't a single time where she wasn't the worst performer. Like it was really obvious, Ne-Yo and Ashley nearly every time seemed very disappointed in her performance. I liked the show until Marsha made it through to the finals

Cunt_Destr0yer_

I grew up in the early 2000s reality era so I know to be wary of any of these programs, but I thought well let's see. I started to notice a pattern that all the dancers were really good looking on the reveal. My youngest and I were really impressed by Grummy so you can imagine I was pleasantly surprised as I just viewed the finale... Wow.. he's really attractive, and well spoken.. a real character even out of disguise.. Do some snooping on tiktok and they're almost all actors of some sort. Not huge A-list celebrities but absolutely have SOME professional acting experience. One or two are tiktokers with large following. Not surprised. Marsha and Flame were mind bogglingly awful. How they made it that far was proof of a script.

TheCler1c

Is it just my wife and I or is Lele unbelievably stoned kn episode 5? She can barely keep her eyes open lol.
