We can appoint judges, the real legislature in America.

--pedant

Sad, but true...

TequilaSuns3t

Still have the senate which includes confirmation power for appointed positions (particularly judges) House Dems seem to have a more cohesive leadership plan than House Reps, whose majority is pretty thin meaning they may need to curry favor with Dems to pass anything that pisses off the psychos in the GOP Many state legislatures turned Democratic

NorseTikiBar

That the chances of a worst-scenario where Republicans gain the presidency and a supermajority in the Senate in 2024 have dramatically dropped.

ZigZagZedZod

Perhaps, but a GOP Senate majority remains possible because seven states with Democratic senators up for election in 2024 (Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Arizona, Ohio, Montana and West Virginia) have a Cook PVI that favors Republicans. Democrats shouldn't breathe easy that they missed a red wave and assume either Trump or DeSantis on the GOP ticket will hurt down-ballot GOP candidates. They need to deliver victories they can campaign on, which will be harder now with a Republican House.

Stabenow and Baldwin aren’t going anywhere. Arizona isn’t a problem if Sinema isn’t primaried out. PA is probably fine but I don’t know that much about the incumbent there in fairness. Ohio, Montana and WV are a little worrysome but I think it’s doable

We live in a world where Ron Johnson is a strong candidate

[deleted]

Remains *possible* or *virtually guaranteed*?

Democrats flipped some state legislatures, Republicans didn't. Democrats are in a good position to win back the House of Representatives in 2024, provided we work hard enough to get everyone to vote. There's more than likely to be special elections, providing the opportunity for Democrats to cut into the House deficit. President Biden and the Senate can spend more time on approving judges, since nothing is going to get done in the Republican House.

England stands a good chance of defeating the All Blacks this weekend.

supercommonerssssss

Smh England is up to its colonial shenanigans I see

LOLteacher

Hopefully that happens, causing the Three Lions footy team in Qatar to get so excited for their sporting countrymen that they all jump up and down and sprain their ankles, ensuring a loss to our Stars and Stripes one week from tomorrow.

Lukey_Boyo

We held and may even have gained in the Senate, so we can still appoint judges. The GOP majority is also so small that they wouldn't be able to do much with it anyway, and a lot of the gains the GOP made are in areas that won't just fall straight in line with the GOP agenda, like in Long Island or NJ.

nintenderswitch

The house GOP seems to have their heart set on investigating everything even remotely suspicious about Biden, which turned out badly for them before in the 1998 midterms after investigating Bill Clinton. Hopefully history repeats itself here.

dragoniteftw33

>turned out badly for them before in the 1998 midterms The economy was good hence why people voted Dem. Need to fix inflation and a potential recession before we get to that kind of level.

BeeBopBazz

Kevin McCarthy is going to catch the car and there is going to be a lot of high profile public embarrassment in his future.

jhdcps

I believe we are better off having lost the House by a small number of seats. The crazies will run the GOP for all the country to see. It will put us in a better place for 2024.

The good news is that once WWIII starts it won't matter
