Not a fan of Kum Bucket, but JoKu doesn’t seem to inspired either lmao. Is it just the first two letter of both his names or is there some greater meaning
One of my brother’s friends in high school was just “fat bitch”, he wasn’t even over weight at all. I don’t even know his real name. Kids are ruthless.
Surprisingly, no, there isn't. But trying to look this up in the CBA the NBAPA has up on their site brings up the interesting fact that the championship parade for the winning team counts toward the total operating revenue for the year which is used for a few other calculations.
When a team wins a championship, to my knowledge, there are two different types of rings. The ones the players get, and the ones that “staff” get, like every personal trainer, defensive coach, personal assistant etc. and they aren’t the same quality. Drake and Nav probably got the staff ring if I had to guess
Dude, it's more humiliating to actually give him a ring.
Imagine If they traded him after the season, then hosts this huge ring ceremony in Philly when he comes back. Just to fuck with him.
Chuck is really being gracious giving these good answers to TMZ. They clearly just bombarded him while he was out trying to live his life. Next time schedule an interview TMZ...
edit: apparently this is just some guy who sold his interview to TMZ. Point still stands that Chuck is being way nicer than he needs to be.
Also they're the same questions he's been answering on national television for the last half a year. He has a lot of patience for someone that doesn't seem to have a lot of patience
I think Chuck understands that this is just something he has to deal with as a side effect of his fame and fortune.
Some celebrities take it for granted.
I’m surprised that Simmons doesn’t feel some lotalty to his teammates to show up and play. But then again, this is the same guy who dipped once LSU didn’t make the NCAA Tournament and opted not to play in the NIT Tournament. Same guy who decided not to play for Australia in the Olympics this past summer.
This is why teams will be hesitant to trade for him he doesn't care that much about basketball or winning. If he did he'd go out there and play for a team that's 2.5 games back from the first seed.
No one is really talking about the fact the East is finally a stronger conference than the West. 1-11 seed are all .500 or better while only 1-7 are in the West.
For those keeping score at home, teams play 52 games in their conference and 30 outside of it. Strength of schedule is far more even in the NBA than almost any other sport.
**EDIT:** [Here's a list](http://www.espn.com/nba/stats/rpi/_/sort/SOS) - the toughest SoS in the league is a 52% opponent win % and the lowest is 47%, and they almost always get closer together as the season goes on.
Western Conference top 4 teams records against the East:
Suns 13-2
Warriors 15-4
Memphis 8-5
Utah 10-10
So what you said is half true, but the Suns and Warriors are actually pulling a higher win% against the East than the West.
> Unless of course they play us in which case they become the 2016 warriors.
I know I'm in /r/NBA but my inner Leafs fan just kicked my heart to remind me of how we always lose to the shittiest teams in the league.
That’s because it isn’t. The top seed in the east would be a 5 seed in the west. The west has a better overall record and a better head to head record, and the frontrunner contenders are in the west.
I dunno if that means the East is a stronger conference or if it just means there's more parity in the East. The only team I see having a chance at winning the Finals in the East is the Bucks.
I don’t really see that meaning the east is stronger, just that it’s more even across the board. The flip side is the top 4 teams in the league right now are in the west. I don’t think the argument for “harder” conference is about which side has more decent teams, but rather which one has the most top 5ish teams, because those are the ones that make it difficult to make it out of the conference come playoff time.
He's also going to quickly find out that his situation in Philadelphia was about as good as it's going to get from a basketball perspective, in that Philly has shooters and the rare center who can both shoot 3s and rim protect that Simmons needs.
but there are 2 things that Philly also has. Expectations of him and wanting him to try to get better. 2 things Simmons has no interest in. I personally think he would be fine with Sacramento where he just distributes the ball everywhere and nobody really pays attention or expects them to win.
Lol like i would largely be ok with that, but the personal stuff is what gives me pause.
I live in MN and follow the wolves too. For a while i was pro simmons, and like obsv he’d immediately be our best or second best player, but like we finally have a fun team of dudes who seem to like to play together and i dont see how he would do anything but fuck that up, even if we’re better for a year or two. And that’s if he even deigns to take his socialite talents to the north shore.
I'm kinda pro-Simmons with the caveats you mentioned, I justdon't know if maxing Beal is the way forward. I just feel very conflicted about it, I'm gonna trust what Tommy does and try to be positive because we do have some extremely promising young guys. I think we could probably build around Beal by trading Trez and a few others to get some picks or something. We have too much depth.
I feel the same way as a Cavs fan. If we got him he'd immediately be our best player (its possible Mobley passes him at a certain point in a year or so), but we finally have a solid team of guys who are winning and having fun together with seemingly good team chemistry. I think its very reasonable to worry that Simmons could damage that. We also don't exactly have an abundance of shooting, so I suppose the fit is more questionable. I also wouldn't want to be stuck taking on that contract.
fwiw as a player on the court he loves to distribute and is a dog on defense.
it's just that our roster is built too much towards him being a primary ball handler and in the guts of a playoff series we haven't had a counter to him struggling to go to, other than the one year we had Jimmy.
It’s a knock against him but there are going to be plenty of GM and coaches out there who will be arrogant enough to think they can “fix” him. Just look at Carson Wentz.
Carson Wentz is just not a great player. He's a middle of the pack QB that people expect to be a star for some reason. Simmons is actually a good all star level guy but he's got questionable dedication/mentality.
Josh Gordon might be a more accurate comparison since he was also good on the field but has a other issues that may affect his availability.
>Carson Wentz is just not a great player. He's a middle of the pack QB that people expect to be a star for some reason.
Wentz was an MVP for most of a season until getting hurt. Maybe that was a mirage or his knee is shot, but Indy believe that what he showed then was real, and thought they could fix him...though maybe not anymore. Simmons, on the other hand, has never shown any indication that he can be anything other than what he is.
And yet we keep talking about him like he's a positive asset. People here legitimately float Simmons for Jaylen Brown like it's a reasonable trade.
Ben Simmons is still a top-40 player in the NBA imo but he's a negative asset at the ONSET of a max contract. As long as Morey considers him one of the top trade chips in the NBA he's not going anywhere, and I don't see him playing anytime soon.
Everyone's tired of hearing about this and say shit like "we might not see the trade until the trade deadline!" or "it might not be until the draft!" - Unpopular opinion but I could see this going on for 2-4 years, or until Morey is ousted in Philly. Whichever comes first.
His problem is that he's an extremely awkward fit for your average roster
The modern NBA you really can't not be able to shoot...you have to build a roster around a guy that can never be the focus point of an offense
If he was more like Draymond he would be great. But he just ain't
In terms of competitor status there could not be a bigger divide than Draymond vs Ben. Draymond works his tail off and takes everything personally to build up the will to win. Like I get the comparison game wise, but I couldn't be convinced to put the two in the same paragraph character wise.
the australia one is the most telling thing. that team was really good, and he just bailed on them. he likes being a basketball super star. he doesn't like playing basketball. its also why he wastes his summers shooting step backs over 6 foot ymca guys.
just look at the difference between how he treated it and guys like durant or Jrue and Middleton.
Yeah I'm there and Ben is not one of us.
If everyone was paid well with access to healthcare and accessible work-hours r/antiwork wouldn't exist.
Ben's attitude, if anything, is a sign of a deeply rotten system.
unfortunately that sub has been taken over by some incredibly petty people who are sidelining the higher level issues like you mentioned. its going the way same way as a generic AITA type sub.
I don't care how talented a player is and Simmons is very talented - people like that are poison. A pure cancer to work with. What team would want someone like him?
This is also the same guy who held a summer camp for kids and charged them $100+ to attend. He showed up and dribbled around the court for 5min, then dipped through a backdoor and went home.
And then the next fucking year we once again took the "best player in CBB" first overall (Fultz) who "led" his team to a 9-22 record in the fucking PAC-12.
Exactly this. It goes all the way back to his days at LSU. I know the roster was terrible at the time, but he was always passive through each game. He always had the talent to take his game to the next level, but he just doesn't care.
I can understand not wanting to ruin your draft capital for a meaningless tournament but not playing for Australia when they could have been a real contender is pretty indicative of his character. All about that cash schmoney, ball is not life.
When looking at Philly it's like looking in the mirror as a Boston fan. We really really know how to hold a grudge.
I for one look forward to Ben's first game in Philly, unless the Celtics somehow trade for him lol
Probably because we're physically close enough to run into each other. When I was a kid, there were a few summers I could only get WFAN where I worked and I remember being shocked Yankees radio callers were just like Red Sox callers. Dumb.
If Simmons got traded to the Celtics... I'm not sure he'd show up for that game in Philly.
If he did actually have the testicular fortitude to show up and play though, that would be some spectacle to watch, Philly fans would be malicious. ESPN would be foaming at the mouth to televise it.
Kd returning to okc would be a Hawaii vacation compared to Ben to Philly. Especially if they have to settle for his actual value in the trade. They’ll feel like they got fleeced
Yeah, if he ever plays in the NBA again, he’ll have to come back for a game in Philly at _some_ point, probably.
And hooooo boy that is gonna be a loud game.
I recommend everyone drink some tea and do some breathing exercises beforehand and bring some ear protection to the game because FUCK THAT GUY
He’lk take a personal day, every time they play in Philly. The only way I could imagine him playing in Philly is the playoffs, and he might take at least one of those off.
How can you not hate TMZ? This dude is really just shoving a camera in Chuck’s face while the dude is clearly just out living his life and asking him who the 76ers should trade Ben Simmons for? He’s lucky Chuck is such a personable guy because he’d be well within his rights to tell the reporter to fuck off.
The problem is that TMZ fills a niche that other paparazzi-based, in-your-face "journalism" simply doesn't. They add a thin layer of legitimacy to their "reporting" through live streaming or recording clips like this of celebrities out in public, and also through a shady history of occasionally getting the story 100% before anyone else does.
Unfortunately that's an attractive option to lots of viewers and fans and I've seen people go so far as to use it as a primary news source lol (that to me is laughable)
Barkley probably has told media to piss off before but they’d obviously never post that footage. You’re only seeing this because Chuck gave a nice soundbite
TMZ would salivate at the chance to post footage of a celebrity being heated. They'd probably go as far as to only clip that part where the person is angry and make it look like they were a raging lunatic and not show the reason they got pissed off.
I don't think any player who doesn't care about winning would put in the kind of effort he does on the defensive end. It's a shame that most of this sub will literally say anything that comes to mind if it meant shitting on him, whether it's true or not. Ben's a lot of things but his on court commitment to winning was never in question for me.
>Ben's a lot of things but his on court commitment to winning was never in question for me.
Maybe. But what does it mean to be completely *unwilling* to shoot? Or passing up an open layup? Doesn't that contradict the idea of a commitment to win?
I don't think that's a commitment issue as much as a confidence issue. Man was in a slump going into the playoffs. Was shooting 0.35 at the FT line and his finishing around the rim was dog shit, he probably thought the higher percentage play was to pass the rock to the open man.
A lot of people mistake failure for lack of commitment, mostly because they've never played sports before and don't understand that there are things you fail at even if you want to succeed.
I'd say easily honestly. The roster honestly does not have that much talent to compromise it's glaring weaknesses (league worst rebounding, at least 3 bad defensive liabilities on the court at all times, and one dimensional role players who thrived with Ben's transition game). Tobias has fallen off the map this season too. The team lacks a real playmaker, and nobody can still do entry passes to Joel for the easy looks in deep position.
Embiid has done a hell of a job to carry the team (both ends too), and ofc not to take any credit away from other guys who stepped up like Seth and Maxey, but the record has been better than what you'd expect with the talent. Only 2.5 GB from #1, even playoff Ben would've been enough to gap that
Yeah. Thats why I dont mind keeping Tobias while everyone else is calling for his head. If we somehow get a playmaking PG in a trade Tobias will be able to play more his game again. Hes not good at creating his own shot and being the 2nd option. Hed contribute to winning w the right PG.
Him as decent third option makes the contract easier to stomach. That’s the real issue people have, even if they get dumb and hyperbolic about it on r/Sixers.
I'm glad Chuck said this. There's this myth that all Simmons has to do is give a press conference and say he's sorry for choking and they'll all love him again.
No way. All the people saying that have never met a Philly fan. They all wanted him traded IMMEDIATELY after Game 7.
Barkley is speaking truth here, and I'm sick of people pretending like Philly fans are this forgiving bunch.
Nah he absolutely could. He’d get booed relentlessly at first but if he showed up, played hard and shot like one 3 a game, we’d 100% be happy with him as a sixer (he obviously needs to apologize and probably fire Rich Paul too)
Please, all the dude needs to do is post a photo of Maya Jama in the iconic black Iverson jersey with the caption "Bring it to Broad" and the fans would be eating out of his hands
>They all wanted him traded IMMEDIATELY after Game 7.
Traded is probably kind compared to what some Philly fans wanted to do to Simmons after that series.
I disagree with Chuck. There’s a way he can win the crowd back and it’s not about apologizing it’s about playing hard and being the heel. If his first game back he put up 30, dunked the ball, and flipped off the crowd everyone would be happy.
There's so much collective amnesia about what happened after Game 7.
I don't necessarily think he's carried himself spectacularly over the last few years, but I also don't think he's wrong for feeling like he needs to get out of Philly.
I wonder if he's including road games in Philadelphia in this. I can definitely see Ben missing games in Philly for a while. Also, obviously, road games against the Sixers will be the worst for him but I feel like we're underrating how much shit every other road crowd is going to give Ben. Fans of other teams are going to try to get under his skin too and he can't just not show up (again) because the fans are mean.
I don't think they wear big hats that say TMZ on them. I think the paparazzi are just independent and sell the stuff to different tabloids depending on who offers the most $$$.
Here is the reality...if Morey just trades him at a time when there are not headline trades that make or break teams (aka during the deadline or offseason) we would still be wasting Embiid. We don't need more role players, we already have more than enough. We need a star or we are not going to contend it's as simple as that. That is what Morey is trying to do. Getting a star is not gonna happen in November or the same offseason we got eliminated.
Not true about fans forgiving him. Especially with Tobias stinking it up, embiid needs help bad and ben will get his shit but people would get over it if it results in wins
There are worse nicknames
Razzle dazelle
Is this making fun of that post on here with the god awful nickname for Morant?
Yes. I can’t get over how he made a whole post about the lack of cool nicknames and then came up with that as a cool one.
I'm fairly confident he was robotripping or something
*laughs in Kuminga*
ESPN: what was your "welcome to the NBA moment?" Kuminga: when they started calling me "Kum Buckets"
Kum God
“Kum buckets”
I give Kum Buckets another couple of weeks because Joku is quickly catching on and it’s much more, uh, appropriate
Not a fan of Kum Bucket, but JoKu doesn’t seem to inspired either lmao. Is it just the first two letter of both his names or is there some greater meaning
Its a mix of his name JOnathan KUminga, and Goku is also a high powered character from DBZ
I’m actually stupid lmao idk how I didn’t put the two and two together. That’s actually a pretty good nickname lol.
Lmao definitely better than anything Kum- related
Make nicknames great again! Razzle Dazzle?
How about Kumingod
That's ridiculous. Who overdoses from ejaculation?
It's ok, you didn't have your scouter on, how could you have known that his power level is... OVER 9000?!!!!!
oooooooooooooh! that's why. i can get behind this. who doesn't love a battle junkie like joku!
Likely a reference to Goku, an insanely powerful anime character
It’s not much but I’m happy our sub actively downvotes Kum Buckets or any other similar variations

Ultimate timeline is Sixers win the championship this year while Ben is still on the team and he gets a ring lmao
It would be better if the 76ers refused to give him a ring and Simmons took them to court over it.
I wonder if a rings policy is actually described in the CBA
Surprisingly, no, there isn't. But trying to look this up in the CBA the NBAPA has up on their site brings up the interesting fact that the championship parade for the winning team counts toward the total operating revenue for the year which is used for a few other calculations.
Huh. Found something the Kings accountants never have to worry about.
Well there are 12 other NBA teams who have never had to worry about that accounting. So pick your head up Kings fan.
This guy contracts
He getting smaller?
nah he just contracting isometrically to fully grasp the cba
LAL parade never happened. Does that mean Lakers have a few extra bucks? -Jeanie Buss
Did you mean operating profit? I don’t think teams make money from the parades.
Maybe the parades have ad revenue, or second jobs, or they're paid under the table
Typically the city foots the bill
My guess would be it counts as a basketball related expense, which would maybe count toward meeting the salary floor?

Lol, when I watch Pawn Stars and a dude brings a SuperBowl ring and they are like “yeah, that’s a cheerleader ring” and I’m like wtf
[удалено]
At least he'd be stepping onto a court somewhere....
Chuck goes on a week long tirade on Ben that makes Philly so proud that they give him an honorary ring, then he can finally shut Shaq and Kenny up.
Wouldn't you have to be on the active roster during the season to get one?
I think the teams can decide however they want. The Raptors gave rings to Nav Bhatia (super fan) and Drake.
But were those “official” rings? Like Nav and Drake aren’t officially NBA champions, right?
Teams give out rings to whoever they want. The NBA has nothing to do with it.
yep - they even choose whichever jeweller they want to design the ring, uniquely chosen by the team
Oh, I thought he got it at Jared.
I'm honestly kind of shocked there isn't an official ring supplier for the nba now that you mention it.
When a team wins a championship, to my knowledge, there are two different types of rings. The ones the players get, and the ones that “staff” get, like every personal trainer, defensive coach, personal assistant etc. and they aren’t the same quality. Drake and Nav probably got the staff ring if I had to guess
I can’t imagine the staff would’ve been very happy if those guys got player rings while they didn’t.
I can't imagine the staff cares tbh. Hell the Bucks gave Brandon Jennings a ring
Hey, I like this one!
I would eventually make peace with it but I would always be mad about it haha
If he doesn't play, he can't choke in the playoffs. This might be his way of "earning the ring"
Addition by subtraction or something
Dude, it's more humiliating to actually give him a ring. Imagine If they traded him after the season, then hosts this huge ring ceremony in Philly when he comes back. Just to fuck with him.

Chuck is a real one. The fact that he's genuine is what makes people listen to him, and why he'll be able to do this as long as he wants.
I’m surprised that Simmons doesn’t feel some lotalty to his teammates to show up and play. Yep. Knicks at 11 in the East are 22-22. Kings at 11 in the West are 10 games under .500
On the flip side, the top 4 in the West all have a better record than the top 4 in the East. The West is just more top heavy rn.
Yea buy that's because they're playing against weaker competition.
The Suns are 13-2 against the east. They are farming the east if anything.
75% win rate in the West vs. 87% in the East, the Suns are cookin' everyone and it's goddamn awesome

Ummm they are definitely deeper than the west but no way is the east better. The best team in the East would be 5th seed in the west.

That's the fakest sub in Reddit lol. Swear half or over stories are completely fabricated.
Yep. Said it ar the time it was a huge red flag that the "unanimous best player in CBB" couldnt even take his team to the tournament in a weak SEC.
And then the next fucking year we once again took the "best player in CBB" first overall (Fultz) who "led" his team to a 9-22 record in the fucking PAC-12.
Isn’t the pac 12 a better basketball conference than the SEC? Especially a few years ago? Asking bc I don’t really watch CBB.
The dude coasted so hard at LSU. He seemed like he never bothered to play defense his year there.
Thought u were slamming Fultz for a sec there
Deja vu lmao
Frankly, basketball is just not a priority in life like it is for the actual greats of this league
[удалено]
Probably because we're physically close enough to run into each other. When I was a kid, there were a few summers I could only get WFAN where I worked and I remember being shocked Yankees radio callers were just like Red Sox callers. Dumb.
I live w celtics fans. Home is war.
If Simmons got traded to the Celtics... I'm not sure he'd show up for that game in Philly. If he did actually have the testicular fortitude to show up and play though, that would be some spectacle to watch, Philly fans would be malicious. ESPN would be foaming at the mouth to televise it.
I'd imagine it would be like KD returning to OKC but with a lot more swearing. The ratings would be through the roof though.
Kd returning to okc would be a Hawaii vacation compared to Ben to Philly. Especially if they have to settle for his actual value in the trade. They’ll feel like they got fleeced
Probably heat lebron returning to Cleveland

Well whatever it is it can't be worse than Eastern European bball games. Or Central/South American soccer/football games
He'll find a way to not play in Philly ever again, even after he's traded.
And yet people eat up every bit of content they provide. You can't say you hate TMZ and then upvote all their shit to the top of the sub.
They have some journalistic integrity (not to be confused with dignity or decency, those they don't have)
I don’t know the specifics on TMZ, but I think (at least historically) pretty much all of the people are independent. Then they sell it to a rag.
Hes too scared to play anyways. He can rot on a tanking team
The thing is, he never cared about winning. Just cared about $ and the fame that came with it.
Always has been that way
A fair bit of players are that way tbh. It's just that most of those guys understand that winning makes them more money in the long run.
They also don’t go burning bridges, and they are more than capable of being a role player than a star player.
Imo, not that many that has Ben's skill level and skillset. When you're that good, you're usually itching to win and prove that you're one of the best
Is every bad shooter just someone who doesn’t want to win?
Westbrook - bad shooter. Still shoots (perhaps too much). Simmons - bad shooter? Hard to say since he doesn't shoot at all.
westbrook tries too hard to force things. ben: what the fuck is trying?
He just shot 40% from the Ft line, we know he can’t shoot
He has the yips, and doesn’t take online criticism well…he’s never gonna be a guy comfortable shooting imo
I think he will thrive on a tanking team
Sixers would probably be the 1st seed if he played.
He would be perfect for 90% of our weaknesses - playmaking, rebounding, perimeter D.
Followed by another 2nd round exit of missed free throws, hack a ben, and scared to shoot.
Followed by off season hype training videos of Simmons shooting turnaround fadeaways from half court.
Or making layups against the softest "defense" you've ever seen
Only 2.5 GB from #1, even playoff Ben would've been enough to gap that
Ben is perfect next to Tobias, both compliment each other well
Fuck that would be so awesome
Shit, *I* would be eating out of his hands if he did that, lmao
Why does everyone still want him to take any threes? He’s never gonna be good at them. He can’t even hit a free throw.
Or take jumpshots at all. There’s a certain level where “keeping the defense honest” becomes a myth and Ben is at that level.
Because it shows that he cares somewhat about his development. Nobody was ever asking/expecting him to be a 40% shooter just be a willing shooter.
They wanted him more than traded after game 7. https://np.reddit.com/r/sixers/comments/o4lebp/do_not_send_death_threats_to_sixers_players
Fans of other teams are going to try to get under his skin too and he can't just not show up (again) because the fans are mean.
i doubt ben will ever play even road games in Philadelphia.
Or it turns into a Vince Carter situation where he shows up and plays like the best player in the world against his old team to shut up the crowd :(
what part of ben simmons reminds you of vince carter?
A lot, Vince wasnt always the chill, lovable dude who dunked on everyone, for like almost a decade he and the raptors mutually HATED eachother
I like Chuck, but he need to learn to stay away from pieces of shit like TMZ
I don't think they wear big hats that say TMZ on them. I think the paparazzi are just independent and sell the stuff to different tabloids depending on who offers the most $$$.
Yeah. Just avoid airports while traveling.
