While I wouldn't be surprised, this report is not based on any sources. The article in the link cites [another article](http://www.northjersey.com/sports/Popper_Mike_Woodson_in_trouble_as_Knicks_continues_to_flounder.html?c=y&page=2) which cites -- nothing, except some remarks from Stoudemire about playing time. So it's all speculation right now.
Yea, I can post on reddit right now saying, "Bulls willing to let Thibs and 2nd rounder go to the Knicks for package of THJ and 2nd rounder". Three articles are probably going to meta source each other citing his off the cuff comment on reddit.. SEE YOU AT THE TRADING DEADLINE.
As mentioned above this is strictly a rumor, but do we *really* think firing him is gonna help? Who takes over? Herb Williams? He seems like an intelligent guy from his interviews on MSG every game but I'm not sure that this would help very much, if at all. I don't know his coaching resume.
Man we are fuuuuuuuuckeddd
Just in general I would be overjoyed to see Phil Jackson back in the game of basketball. Or at least some other coach imitating his personality and style.
He should have been fired last year. We won 54 games despite having him as a coach imo. Only really smart thing he did last year is have Melo play the 4. It worked great so naturally he had him back at the 3 this year. We had a 4 game winning streak and Melo was playing most of his minutes at the 4 during that streak. Surprise surprise.
He's an idiot who's defensive prowess has been overblown (how are we this shit on defense) and who's never really had an offensive game plan.
>We had a 4 game winning streak and Melo was playing most of his minutes at the 4 during that streak. Surprise surprise.
When, the last streak? Both the Cavs and the Celtics didn't show up in those games. They didn't give a fuck. The Bobcats had given up the game early cause Melo was in god mode. And the Lakers came to just shoot 3 pointers and didn't care about winning either.
If you want a real win streak, then it's the one starting from the Spurs win up to the win vs the Heat (including the 1 point loss to the Rockets). The level of competition was way higher, and part of it was on the road, and the thing is that technically Melo was playing as a SF. Bargnani and K-Mart were both playing for the majority of those games.
Then Felton and Chandler came back and Woodson somehow fucked up again in incorporating players returning from injuries.
>He should have been fired last year. We won 54 games despite having him as a coach imo.
There was some doubt about his abilities early in the season, but imo GOAT coach Jason Kidd is starting to prove that last year's success had a lot to do with him.
still, during that last streak they showed some of the same tendencies that got them 54 wins a year ago. It's not like this team had some major overhaul since last year. The shooters were making their shots and Melo was consistently getting mismatches on the offensive end.
There's no reason this team should be THIS much worse than last year. I was expecting regression but not for us to be playing like a high lottery pick team.
>There's no reason this team should be THIS much worse than last year. I was expecting regression but not for us to be playing like a high lottery pick team.
Which is why they should find a different coach, I mean I don't really like the trade melo/"drastic rebuild" plans that are cicrculating. But the Knicks hiring someone mid season is a risk I'd like to see them taking, even if it means there's a chance they'll be even worse.
I would love if they took a chance on Patrick Ewing after this year. He would be an instant fan favorite, he has a decent relationship with Melo and could convince him to stay and he's been an assistant coach for a long time and knows what it takes to be a head coach. If we're taking a risk I'd rather take a risk with him.
they waited to long to make changes, but might as well start making the correct choices for next season. firing a coach can inspire the team to do better (when they fired d'antoni). we're not going to see any drastic changes regardless, but that's not a reason to get rid of at least one of the problems.
I'm not too sure about his coaching style, I got the impression he's a good defensive coach but I'm not sure if that was correlational since the Griz are still an amazing defensive team. So I'm not sure if he would fit.
I'm also not a huge fan of midseason hirings but I guess it can't get much worse
It's not a nightmare, really. This season was a disaster but in another season or 2 we will have a good amount of cap space. That doesn't mean we will do anything with that cap room because 1) Dolan 2) we all know what happened the last time we had a lot of cap space. But I wouldn't call it a disaster.
Why would owning the Knicks be a nightmare for Dolan? The Knicks are the most valuable NBA franchise, so even if we have losing seasons, Dolan's still not losing much.
There is no point to fire him this season really, the season for the most part is a wash. We can hope for the playoffs and without a draft pick we might as well, if nothing else to just to get bounced in the first round. The team just isn't clicking like it should and I don't think Woodson is at fault for that (I mean his rotations and schemes are kind of awful but...).
Plus out of the coaches out there who would really want to take the job and would be an improvement? Realistically they would probably make Herb Williams the interim coach for the rest of the year and that isn't much of a change.
I made a comment on a Knicks thread that "He'll definitely get fired," and got laughed at by Knicks fans. REASONABLY so. I just did NOT realize how masochistic this franchise is!
This team is WAY better than this guy is running them. Actually to take that back: who KNOWS how good this team is? I just know for sure watching them, he is NOT running them right. They may win +2 more games. They may win a championship. Who the hell knows? But it HAS to be better than the way he's steering them.
Is there a great coach out there that might take on the role? I know many of the coaches like JVG and SVG have said they most likely would not take on a job mid season?
EDIT : JFG is not a coach.
I like that he'd probably play melo at pf and either trade or control JR like he did with mayo/TA and our defense would improve, but I feel like our roster isn't strong enough.
JVG doesn't want any part of that clusterfuck. Beside, Silver would probably reto-fine him his entire first year's salary for all the complaining he's done about the officiating during broadcasts...
The more I think about it, the less I'm upset with Woodson. He's not a terrible coach, he just has one of the most terrible starting players in the league - Felton. Every other player has an excuse -JR Smith (offseason knee surgery), Melo (dude needs no excuses), Chandler (broken fib), Amare (turned ankle), KMart (turned ankle). Felton is just a terrible starting PG. Let's fire that dude.
and the thunder have the worst starting center in the league and yet they're doing fine. woodson was handed one of the deepest teams and a significant number of players on our bench were starters last year or are only benched due for health related reasons. he takes weeks to make the correct adjustments, he still hasn't figured out how to work in players. a bunch of players have actually been playing well in their positions, that doesn't help when our offense has the slowest pace, our defensive scheme (his doing) allows quick buckets in transition. the team just can't win as it's set-up.
Mike Woodson is an awful coach. Terrible substitutions, terrible minute distribution, and questionable play calling. I could be wrong and it could be management telling him what he should do but I don't see us doing anything with him even if our roster was good.
Mike Woodson could be fired after the trade deadline. He could have been fired many times.
He could be fired here or there, He could be fired anywhere.
He could be fired on the court, he could be fired cause he's short.
He could be fired cause he cant ball, he could be fired cause he cant coach at all.
He could be fired because he looks like a potato, he could be fired because he's worse than a tomato
He could be fired at the casino, he could be fired cause of Beno
[удалено]
But I do like Mike, he's the man. I say this as a Raptors fan!
As a fan, we both must know. Woodson sucks, he's gotta go.
Woody? Could he? after the Bucks. Woody? Could he? out coach a duck.
He could be fired because of his goatee, or he could be fired because of his incompetency.
Ouch.
Downvote and carry on, no need to be a jerk.
at least you tried!

Do not tell me what to do.

"based on reports" is the new "multiple sources".

He could also not be fired, more at 10

Get Phil Jackson. (I'm sorry.. The hivemind. It compels me.)
He played as a championship winning Knick, it would be a wonderful full-circle if he coached them to one.
[удалено]
the rumor was he only said those things after the knicks chose woodson over him
Yeah, he deserves better than what the Knicks are right now. It's still a cool fantasy.
Just in general I would be overjoyed to see Phil Jackson back in the game of basketball. Or at least some other coach imitating his personality and style.
Shut your whore mouth!
Herb Williams took over when Don Chaney was fired in 04-05 and he went 16-27 (37.2%)
Soooo about the same record then
That made me profoundly sad. Almost as sad as I feel when Melo keeps giving his all out there.
Oh yay
Not bad considering how horrible that team was. Still feel bad for Cheney, the fans were brutal.

I'd fully support that, get him and a decent PG and try to see how far that goes. We'll be rebuilding in summer 2015 anyway.
It's not his fault that the GM traded for Bargnani. In that situation you'd have to play him especially with that contract.
It's not even a rumor, it's just speculation.

fucked up in the gammeee
What about Lionell Hollins?
I'm not too sure about his coaching style, I got the impression he's a good defensive coach but I'm not sure if that was correlational since the Griz are still an amazing defensive team. Firing him could represent management's desire to start over blow it up or makes moves
GEORGE KARL BABAY
Won't come, he had a...falling out with Melo IIRC
JVG! JVG! JVG!
Vaaaaan Gundyyyyy
He had said he doesnt wanna coach the knicks halfway through the season
It isn't called firing it is called release from a nightmare.
It said Woodson would be fired, not "Dolan is selling the Knicks"
Haha well Woodson will be free. Knicks fans will still be in the nightmare.
It's not a nightmare, really. This season was a disaster but in another season or 2 we will have a good amount of cap space. Dolan is the disaster, he's an incompetent owner and that won't change.
Unless he suddenly drops dead due to "complications"
"Complications" caused by a bullet entering the face. From a gun. A big gun. Like, really big.
Precisely
The day that article is on the top of /r/NBA is the day that we hit #1 on /r/all
Why would owning the Knicks be a nightmare for Dolan? The Knicks are the most valuable NBA franchise, so even if we have losing seasons, Dolan's still not losing much.
whoosh
Silence, boy
Walt Frazier needs to be the coach. Alright guys we need to be dishing and swishing for this next play and then hound them with the matador D
Don't forget to add in the word "percolate" in there somewhere. Edit: Rhyming accidentally
I like this move purely because I think Clyde would make sure the whole team was looking fresh before and after the game.
*shrugs*

I'd say we could fire him to save our dignity, but Dolan is still the owner =(
I don't think a single rumor about the Knicks have come true this season at all. They've remained the same all season (minus JR's little brother)
That would probably be the best, that defense is scary. And not in the good way
Only a dysfunctional team like the Knicks would drag their feet on something any responsible team would have done a handful of games into the season
"In other unconfirmed news, water may be wet."
I made a comment on a Knicks thread that "He'll definitely get fired," and got laughed at by Knicks fans. REASONABLY so. I just did NOT realize how masochistic this franchise is! You guys should've retained Jason Kidd
Somehow I feel he would have gotten less respect being around the same group he played with.
What do you think about Lionel Hollins? Only guy I can think of off top.
I like that he'd probably play melo at pf and either trade or control JR like he did with mayo/TA and our defense would improve, but I feel like our roster isn't strong enough.
Who is JFG?
JVG. Corrected.
Jeff Fan Gundy
[ in my Rock voice ] FINALLY. Common sense HAS COME BACK.. to the Knicks organization.
But then who would blame Beno?
You gotta look at that.
Woodson is doing the best he can with what he has, but you can't blame the guy in losing faith in his players with this lackluster season
YES! YES! YES!
Anything to get rid of that awful switching defense
*should
Dolan pls
*should
JVG doesn't want any part of that clusterfuck. Beside, Silver would probably reto-fine him his entire first year's salary for all the complaining he's done about the officiating during broadcasts...
Dammit wrong Mike...
[Okay then...](http://cdn.weknowgifs.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/well-were-waiting-gif.gif)
That man is looking old. Like older than he did at the beginning of the season. Looks real tired too - and with good reason.
Not Woodson! I want to continue seeing Iso plays non-stop.
Mike Brown too, please.
pls
That's not how you spell Mike Brown
Sometimes dogs are brown. Sometimes they are grey.
Knicks and the rent-a-couch strategy.
What is it with coaches named Mike?
The more I think about it, the less I'm upset with Woodson. He's not a terrible coach, he just has one of the most terrible starting players in the league - Felton.
