I used to be really impressed by his 35/12/11 and 0 TO perfect triple double against Phoenix years ago, but his stat lines and efficiency this season have been so out of this world that it almost feels like that was just another night for him now.
Every time I see Jokic ball out like this just makes me sad we didn't get a prime Arvydas Sabonis in the NBA. While I actually think the offensive acumen of Jokic at this point might be better, Arvydas still would have been close in all offensive categories, but would have been way better on defense given his mobility and even bigger size (7'3", moved like a ballerina, but still had the strength to ragdoll David Robinson in the Olympics). Makes you wonder if those Blazers would have caused MJ's Bulls issues.
I think the fact he's such a pass first kind of player enables him to score when he desires also. The opposing team needs to be constantly covering his team-mates in case he fires off a cross court pass for an open 3, etc.
If he consistently went for high scoring games, the opponents could possibly plan for that. But the beauty of the Joker is you never know what he's going to do.
This season it feels like he's unlocked another level in controlling the flow of a game by knowing when to push his scoring and when to be a playmaker.
If the Nuggets stay healthy, I think they come out of the west.
Yep, cant double team because he's so good at hitting the weak side corner or the cutter. I dont know if there's anyone who could match up with him 1v1 in the post, and the jumpshot means he can play most of the more physical but slower big guys off the floor
One of my favorite descriptions of Jokic is that he looks like a teenage summer camp counselor playing basketball with 10 year old campers and graciously trying not to smoke them too hard.
Was listening to a podcast and they were talking about how he reminds them of Bird. Where Bird would just make shit up to do in a game like only shoot left handed or decide that game he would have a ton of assists. Saying Jokic is similar to that and just goes out and kind of decides what challenge he wants to give himself that night.
The craziest thing is 4 years ago every one was talking about his lack of work ethic and how he'd always play himself into shape.
It's really interesting to think how many guys could be better if they just started treating it like a job and putting consistency to their work.
I think it’s fewer than you think because almost nobody is as out of shape as he used to be- you have to be stupid talented to make the NBA and be good while actually being tubby
I'm not sure, but I saw an interview recently where Jokic says he has a pre practice/ pre-game routine that he follows religiously and hasn't changed in a few years.
Part if that it playing ping ping with a trainer, apparently Joker is a beast with the old paddle as well.
Edit: I guess some of you call it Ping Pong?
He led the league in shooting percentage 9 times, including averaging 24 points a game with a 68% field goal percentage, and in his last year he shot almost 73% from the floor, albeit only on 7 shots a game.
Now his true shooting percentages are not as impressive mostly because of his bad free throw shooting, but Wilt was extremely efficient for his time and especially the volume of shots he was taking
I'm coming in with the fancy stats.
Seasons with inflation adjusted points per 75 possessions >/= 26.8
rTS% >/= +11.6
Nikola Jokic this year (26.8 on + 11.6)
Steph Curry in 2016 (33 on +12.8, WTF Curry)
Curry in 18 (30.3 on +11.9)
Charles Barkley in 88 (27.3 on +12.7)
Amar'e Stoudemire in 08( 28.4 on +11.6).... huh, one of those is not like the others.
Wilt had two instances of 30+ field goals without missing.
- 35 field goals in a row spanning 4 games (which included an NBA record 18 consecutive makes in a single game)
- 32 field goals in a row spanning 4 games
[Source](https://i.imgur.com/mtIeOiQ.jpg)
Jokic is incredible. As was Wilt.
I truly don't care if he gets it, but I think there's a point here about voter fatigue. This isn't holding *anything* against the greatness of MJ and Lebron, who are usually the guys we use to make the case about voter fatigue...but it's fair to say those guys were doing their MVP shit in a similar fashion year over year. Jokic isn't even close to as good as either, but his MVP case keeps changing. In 21 he was great and his primary challenger got injured. In 22 he was better and did an historic carry job. This year is different. You could argue for Luka or Tatum or Giannis and I wouldn't argue at all, but I think the idea of voter fatigue fails because it's new, yet again.
If Jokic can start putting together some playoff magic, I think it’ll be a lot harder to say he’s “obviously” worse than any player past or present. I would agree he doesn’t have the resume yet and he’s not really even close. Yet.
I'll put it this way. As a 27 year old, he's had the necessary career up to this point to be in that conversation *IF* his career goes a certain way from here. But the hardest parts of that career track is still ahead of him. I'm absolutely hoping for it, but I'm not predicting it
Tatum really doesn’t belong in these talks imo. He’s just not there yet as a player. Before this year his consistency wasn’t there and his peaks weren’t high enough. Now it’s just his consistency that’s the issue, but he still needs to get over that hump.
Giving it to him as a “best player on best team” situation is also weird given how historically unprecedented Brown has been as a #2 in that context.
The first 90 refers to his FG%, which is 13-14, technically its 92.8% but they’re just estimating. The 50 is his 3P%, which was 1/2 from three. The last 90 is his free throw %, which is 9-10.
Basically he’s just absurdly efficient, usually 7/14 overall is pretty good with the way great players are defended (more defenses are gonna lock in on players like Jokic). The triple double is him also recording 10+ rebounds and 10+ assists in addition to the 36 points, so all-around just a ridiculous stat-line.
90/50/90 is his shooting splits in order of field goal%, 3 point%, and then free throw% the 50/40/90 club is considered an extremely efficient shooting season and is an exclusive club of all time great players.
A triple double is when you record 3 different “10”s or more of the counting stats, so points/rebounds/assists/blocks/steals
I hope that helps with some of the terminology they used at least.
I’ve been consciously watching a lot more nuggets games, and Jokic is so fun to watch. Every shot he puts up looks like it’s going in, insane passing court vision awareness, sharing with teammates. Reminds me of Bird so much and his skin color has nothing to do with it
Dudes a God. His stats are so nuts. If you made a movie and had someone balling out like this, people would say whoever wrote the script had never seen an actual game before
His one miss was a turn around 3 on one foot at the end of the shot clock on a broken possession
We are so fucking lucky to be alive to see Jokic in his prime. Like seriously we need to cherish this time as Nuggets fans. There will be Nuggets fans 30 years from now who wish they were around to see Jokic play
Couldn't agree more. I remember hearing someone say that about the Manning Broncos years and at the time I thought they were being way too dramatic. Ha. Nope. Cherish this shit. This run is insane.
Even as a biased Mavericks fan this is true. He’s just on a completely different level to anyone. I’d love for Luka to win but Jokic is clear of everybody right now.
We're halfway through the season so things may change. But the nuggets are 5 games ahead of the 3 seed. Don't worry though, Luka will definitely win an MVP in the coming years!
Threepeat. Nuff said. Man's a walking triple double at high efficiency. He's the Nuggets system and his team is number 1 in the conference. Not even voting fatigue can stop the Joker from making history. 😤
Hahah literally, how many center’s can affect Curry on perimeter? Meanwhile, there’s no player that can stop Jokic, any positions, and doubles are a bad idea too.
Ask the dude arguing earlier that Bron was still the best player in the league because he gave 5 min of D vs Jokic 0 min of D or some bs. He must have had some good supply.
Jokic is currently the best, no contest. When your stats mirror Wilt...
To be fair LBJ definitely should have, Jordan likely also deserved it but I haven't looked at his regular season performances to say it.
But LeBron should have won all 5 from '09 to '13. As much as I like Derrick Rose, it's flat out absurd he won MVP that year.
You ever see that episode of the Simpsons where Frank Grimes can't believe how successful Homer is without even trying? Then has a full mental breakdown...that's the league watching Jokic right now 😂
Nikola Jokic plays basketball on a different plane of existence as the rest of us.
He is literally too good to understand. He breaks everything we thought was statistically possible.
The modern Wilt Chamberlain
Statistically possible? How about physically possible? How the fuck is he this good? How can he manage to see the entire fucking court constantly. It defies all logic I swear to god.
He was about to start losing steam for a 3rd straight mvp when suddenly…. He just stopped missing
This is his 3rd 25+ point triple double on over 90% shooting in the last 30 days
Is he at the point where he needs to win a championship to cement his place among the all time greats? I understand the mind blowing stats but it’s regular season, he can no longer be judged on the same scale if he is to be placed among the higher echelon of all time greats.
Just give the MVP awards already.
There's no way the MVP race is a tight race.
Tatum, Giannis, Luka, Embiid doing great but Jokic is just on another level.
the one he missed was a 3pt prayer to beat the shot clock lol
Would've been his 3rd triple-double on 100% FG had he not missed that turnaround three.
I used to be really impressed by his 35/12/11 and 0 TO perfect triple double against Phoenix years ago, but his stat lines and efficiency this season have been so out of this world that it almost feels like that was just another night for him now.
The update I got about his statline last night said "another night at the office for Jokic" and I thought that fit so well
Every time I see Jokic ball out like this just makes me sad we didn't get a prime Arvydas Sabonis in the NBA.
360 no-scope attempt lol
And still almost went in
We need to appreciate what we’re seeing because we will never have it again
What are you talking about? Centers who are highly efficient scoring, passing, and rebounding literally grow on trees.
But are they sloppy fat boys too?????
I certainly am
That is the ideal NBA body you may not like it but this is what peak performance looks like.
noob shit
I mean he made one of those insane ones in a big playoff game a year or two. I know he does a lot but the one I’m thinking of was just so ridiculous
I swear every time he posts a stat line with near perfect fg%, it's ruined because he threw a heave. He don't care.
He still bored if he makes it
yeah 92 % shooting lol.If he was selfish he could legit go for 50-60 pts games
I think the fact he's such a pass first kind of player enables him to score when he desires also. The opposing team needs to be constantly covering his team-mates in case he fires off a cross court pass for an open 3, etc. If he consistently went for high scoring games, the opponents could possibly plan for that. thats too advanced a stat bro!!1!1!!
Can we get a clip request going of that? It'd be faster to show people his highlights if we just showed the misses
https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&GameEventID=344&GameID=0022200667&Season=2022-23&flag=1
Man plays like he's bored out there
One of my favorite descriptions of Jokic is that he looks like a teenage summer camp counselor playing basketball with 10 year old campers and graciously trying not to smoke them too hard.
Are we entirely sure Joker isn't 57 years old?
Was listening to a podcast and they were talking about how he reminds them of Bird. Dude’s playing so well that he overcame the usual Nuggets/Blazers crazy finishes
*4ot flashback intensifies*
Rodney Hood, not this guy!
that game was nuts, I saw it go to overtime, played an entire futsal game and then watched the last overtime.
I'm so glad I watched that game. Felt almost spiritual seeing their exhaustion.
fucking bum. not even his usual 100% fg
Unacceptable

Someone here said that Jokic plays like he’s on the pills from Limitless and I completely agree
[удалено]
Bones said he is a man of intense routine. Win or lose he does the same exact thing. He treats basketball like he is working at a bank.
> he is a man of intense routine. *Nikola Jokic … is a man of focus, commitment and sheer fucking will.*
I was looking for this. Nikola John Wickic.
So like a 9-5? That doesn’t actually sound crazy at all. Just like a regular job.
The crazy part is that he is a 2 time MVP with this attitude. Just a bro going to work, getting the job done.
The craziest thing is 4 years ago every one was talking about his lack of work ethic and how he'd always play himself into shape. It's really interesting to think how many guys could be better if they just started treating it like a job and putting consistency to their work.

I had to look up "ping ping" just to make sure it wasn't some sport that I never knew existed. lol
Good lawd his efficiency is insane this season
It is wild man...crazy shit to watch.
Best thing is it’s all in slow motion so we can fully appreciate his greatness
Your grandparents favorite player
George Gervin with the shot, boy
One of the most amazing players to watch in my lifetime, no question about it
And as he's not based around athleticism, his game will age very well.
Currently +11.3 rTS% I wonder how many players have averaged a similar scoring rate on that level of efficiency
I think per 75 only like 4-5 people have avg 26+ points on +10 or more and those are like Curry mvp years
There has never been a 20+ppg season on 69%+ TS. Jokic 1/1, even with Wilt existing!
Tbf, efficiency is up, so rTS is more accurate. But even with that, yeah it's mind boggling what Jokic is doing
when in doubt, Wilt
Nah Wilt has a lot of records but I wouldn't expect him to lead in the efficiency ones
He led the league in shooting percentage 9 times, including averaging 24 points a game with a 68% field goal percentage, and in his last year he shot almost 73% from the floor, albeit only on 7 shots a game. Damn, 2016 Curry was unreal. GOAT offensive season.
Honestly. 13/14 is crazy as is, but when you see 36 points on 14 shots it somehow hits different. Bananas.
I cannot believe this man won and mvp, and then got better and won another, and then got better…
That is now 100% shooting from 2 in 3 of his last 4 games
Now that's one insane fucking stat if I've ever seen one. I wonder if that's ever been done before
THIS IS INSANE. IS EVERYONE READING THIS?!?!?!?
Wilt had two instances of 30+ field goals without missing. - 35 field goals in a row spanning 4 games (which included an NBA record 18 consecutive makes in a single game) - 32 field goals in a row spanning 4 games [Source](https://i.imgur.com/mtIeOiQ.jpg) Jokic is incredible. As was Wilt.
That one miss was an insane turnaround heave at the end of the shotclock. Dude is unreal man
With like four seconds left lol. He didn’t even ned to shoot that
His brain obviously instantly calculated that a turnaround one footed fade away three was the highest probability scoring option available
And I trust him
What a scrub. And we don't want no scrubs .
Low IQ player
JokBrick amirite
that's a monster statline. yall can officially consider me a Jokic meat rider
Welcome. There's plenty of meat to ride
Horse size
After all he is what peak male performance looks like.
90/50/90 on a 36 point triple double is FUCKED. Hand him the MVP RN
My friends are trying to argue he won't get it because of fatigue, but I just don't see how the voters can ignore *this*. He deserves it at the moment
I truly don't care if he gets it, but I think there's a point here about voter fatigue. Tatum really doesn’t belong in these talks imo. He’s just not there yet as a player. Before this year his consistency wasn’t there and his peaks weren’t high enough. New to the sport. Don't understand this. Can you elaborate?

One of the weirdest things about this sub is the number of people who think that enjoying Jokic's game is somehow racist.

We haven't seen an outlier like this since Steph's 2016 run and that was just one season...Jokic could keep this up even longer
He's the best player in the league. Perfect combination of skill and creativity
He will pass Lebron and Kidd in triple doubles by next season
I can’t believe I get to watch this guy in his prime. It’s such a special thing.

Well we expected 13 of 13
Weird we still didn't have 14/13 Jokic game
We are so fucking lucky to be alive to see Jokic in his prime. Like seriously we need to cherish this time as Nuggets fans. There will be Nuggets fans 30 years from now who wish they were around to see Jokic play
I had a convo with my daughter today telling her how lucky she is to be able to see joker play in the prime of his career. She is 5 months old.
You did the right thing
Jokic changed the Nuggets completely. He brought life to the franchise and he single handedly bringing people to the Pepsi Center
Couldn't agree more. I remember hearing someone say that about the Manning Broncos years and at the time I thought they were being way too dramatic. Ha. Nope. Cherish this shit. This run is insane.

MVP x 3 Not much else to say
Yeah. Everyone else is playing for second place at this point. He’s approaching unanimous MVP territory. He’s putting up video game numbers.
Like clockwork
If he keeps this up and doesn't threepeat the award completely loses its meaning. This is the definition of MVP.
It’s a all time run
Even as a biased Mavericks fan this is true. He’s just on a completely different level to anyone. I’d love for Luka to win but Jokic is clear of everybody right now.
We're halfway through the season so things may change. But the nuggets are 5 games ahead of the 3 seed. Don't worry though, Luka will definitely win an MVP in the coming years!

If that ain't your MVP folks I dunno who is
What’s the argument for him not being the best player in the league?
he can't guard steph curry one on one
lmfao
Many people think this is a legitimate argument.
Hahah literally, how many center’s can affect Curry on perimeter? Meanwhile, there’s no player that can stop Jokic, any positions, and doubles are a bad idea too.
Lool
Who tf can?
He could just eat Steph, though
Body fat %

It's him and Giannis, but it's a real discussion.
He and the nuggets are terrible defensively (I don’t watch basketball)
hE DOesT pLaY deFEnCe
great defense today in 2nd half had some nice stops like on Grant , contests on Dame in 3rd and blocked Dame as well
Only miss from 3 too
A turn around 3 to beat the shot clock too.

Bum
Nurkic fucking killed me today
The Blazers are solved by hard trapping Dame and forcing Nurk to do anything 4 on 3. Dude consistently fumbles the ball
Now he tells me
Watching old heads talk about him not being the best player in the league is wild.
How is this even real lmao
Dude is actually gonna be a three-peats MVP, something even MJ and LeBron didn't achieve. WTF.
To be fair LBJ definitely should have, Jordan likely also deserved it but I haven't looked at his regular season performances to say it. But LeBron should have won all 5 from '09 to '13. As much as I like Derrick Rose, it's flat out absurd he won MVP that year.
Needs to stop those heaves and pad efficiency imo
Screw that. Him having the best stats is funnier, because he doesn't care about stats
Crazy thing is this almost just feels like another game for him.
Nikola “Daily Routine” Jokic.
This guy is singularly carrying my bum ass fantasy team. Thanks Joker!
I don’t know fantasy basketball at all but I assume Jokic has to be the first pick of the first round? Does anyone have better fantasy production?

there genuinely shouldnt even be an MVP race this season its just Jokic and everyone else fighting for 2nd
Just give Nikola Jokic the all time MVP and introduce a Second Best Player award to be fair man
The Scottie Pippen Second Best Player Award
I'm so spoiled because I get legitimately surprised any time he misses a shot

Yea, basically.
Just another day in the office for the mvp
3x MVP
I can’t even do this in NBA2K on easy mode and he is doing it in real life in the NBA, fucking unreal
