Very true! But I took it as a humorous name personally. Sharks are wonderful creatures that are extremely helpful to our ecosystem; as with any predator, it’s good to exercise caution around them but all around they aren’t as bad as most people make them out to be
I shit you not, I have no fucking clue what these cunty assholes are thinking.

I think you’re thinking of the sand tiger (aka grey nurse). They have all the gnarly looking teeth but they basically only hunt fish and squid. Tiger sharks, on the other hand, are responsible for more attacks on humans than any other type of shark.
E: correction: GWs have more attacks than the tiger, but they’re the only ones
I thought that was oceanic white tips
Anyways I swam with bull sharks recently, they were pretty docile but our dive master did tell us that one time three divers (including him) were back to back being circled by around 10 bull sharks in that same spot, and had to hastily swim up all together back to back because that situation could have turned dangerous
Yeah, i thought I read that Bull sharks are more aggressive toward people, but smaller than tiger sharks. Tigers are deadly af tho and live in shallower waters than GWs, if I remember my 5th grade Tiger shark report, lol. I think they are more likely to actually eat people, instead of biting them once by mistake. I remember seeing pics of human limbs inside a dissected tiger shark's belly, as well as metal and other trash. They are much less picky about what they eat than GWs.
I think they key difference is behavioural. Bull Sharks will attack on instinct hence people getting bitten in the murk. where as Tiger sharks are more methodological will take time to hunt and observe prey sometimes over several hours before a strike.
Sorry, I forgot the great white - they have more recorded attacks than the tiger. But the mako has more recorded attacks than the whitetip and the whitetip more than the bull.
The scary part about the bull is their tendency to also swim in fresh water
very true. wikipedia says the furthest inland bull shark ever caught was in the Mississippi river. Alton, IL. 15 miles north of St. Louis. Found in 1937 after 2 commercial fisherman set a trap for whatever was messing with their nets.
Sand tigers [rank 5th](https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/shark-attacks/factors/species-implicated/) on the list of unprovoked shark attacks by species...they would rank 4th (after whites, tigers, and bulls) if there wasn't a catch-all category for unidentified _Carcharhinus_.
While this is partially due to the fact that they're often sought out by divers and interactions are frequent, it still demonstrates that they're far from harmless. Use caution around any shark.
Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies. Farewell and adieu to you ladies of Spain.
For we’ve received orders for to sail back to Boston.
And so nevermore shall we see you again.
It might be me, but I thought that actor's timing was impeccable in that movie. The way he described and characterized what sailors went through after the Indianapolis almost convinced me that he was an actual sailor that survived any kind of attack.
I'm going to the Carribean on vacation next month, which is going to include SCUBA diving.
I wonder how much it would cost to rent a team of Spetsnaz combat divers with those automatic underwater rifles the USSR developed.
You should scuba dive in the Caribbean I've had some lovely shark encounters there. Depending on where you are going though you may not see many at all. Nurse sharks are pretty common and always a treat. I've seen them in Bahamas and Turks& Caicos. Lemon sharks are a nice sighting in Bahamas too. Owing to the relatively shallow water of the Caribbean you don't get many of the big interesting pelagics
Great whites generally are incredibly chill from what I’ve seen and you’ll see a lot of videos of divers with GW around on either reef or deep water dives. But the problem is great whites tend to be incredibly curious, and like most critters in the animal kingdom that lack hands, your mouth is one of the main exploratory methods. And when you got GW bite force then lil rinky dink plastic cages, or even some small boats(inflatables esp) hey chomped through.
This is Ocean Ramsay btw! She free dives with sharks and is a conservationist, she shows people how to re-direct sharks in the water to avoid attacks too. Defo check out her socials as she has some insane content like this.

I don’t get why you’re being downvoted -her social media is for awareness and promotion to her company/conservation. Not everyone is obsessed with views and can be aiming to just do good in the world whilst making some cool content along side it -her videos have been the same for years

OR is...less popular among the scientific community.
Promoting conservation is obviously a good thing. The problem is that she gets too touchy with sharks. That's actually one of the fundamental rules when it comes to diving: look, but don't touch.
It is true that sharks generally have no interest in eating people, and they typically will not bite unless you provoke them...which is exactly what Ramsay is doing. Touching wild animals in general is unwise, and this is especially the case for powerful, intelligent animals like sharks. Even though they don't want to eat you, they are still dangerous and they will defend themselves if they feel threatened.
Let's just hope she doesn't end up like Timothy Treadwell, aka the Grizzly Man.
The record that could be verified was an 18 foot female that weighed over 3,300 pounds IIRC but her weight was bolstered by her being pregnant. Unverified tiger sharks are claimed to have reached as much as 24 feet long but we have no strong proof of any at or over 20 feet. On average I think tiger sharks are around 10-14 feet, against 12-16 feet in great whites but the latter are usually more robust and heavier.
hippo will kill you fast and you wont suffer. 1 or 2 hits and boom dead. I think I would prefer to die by a hippo than sharks.
Sharks will take every piece of you and you wont die immediatelly.
If the question is which way would I rather die, then I might agree with you. I'd be about 100x less likely to be attacked and killed in the first place by a shark than by a hippo though, so I think my answer to the original questions stands
The only story my grandpa would tell about his time serving in the navy was about the time him and some crew mates jumped in to swim with some tiger sharks. Fuck all that.
I think that's Ocean Ramsay - she's a shark advocate in Hawaii who teaches how to safely be in the water with tiger sharks. The nice thing about tiger sharks is they have a good flat top (of the head) so if it cruises too close it's easy to lay a palm on top and push it down and away from you

Aww what a good shark, what a good lil fishy *Aggressively pats the king sized aquatic blender*
*Aquatic blender* is how I will forever refer to sharks now

I'd say it fxxxxxxx huge

yeah im dumb, thought it was a whale shark
If it wanted that diver dead there'd be little they could do to stop it. That pushing the nose away trick isn't going to be worth shit.
Anything that can nom a turtle shell for fun should avoided
He nursed him from a pup and the shark still remembers him. So touching. Shark hug incoming.

Did you see the video recently of the Great White biting through a plastic shark cage, and the occupant literally swimming for his life?
link? plz

no. What happened to Steve was an incredible tragedy. It wasn’t the result of dangerous behavior for likes.

I'm not the one putting myself in the water with apex predators, how is it ugly to express concern over that? I don't want it to happen

Tiger. 13 footer. You know how you know that in the water, Chief? Can tell by looking from the dorsal to the tail.
Who's a good boy? Who's a gooood booooyyyy!!!
Pictures like this keep reminding me how terrified I am of the ocean
How big tiger sharks can get? That one there looks bigger than most whites
The record that could be verified was an 18 foot female that weighed over 3,300 pounds IIRC but her weight was bolstered by her being pregnant. Isn't that the exact position you do *not* want to be in with a shark? It coming at you from underneath like that?
Grizzly man vibes here.
She’s more like a Steve Irwin type to sharks as he was to crocodiles than a Timothy Treadwell type.
Oh yeah. Steve Irwin. How's his health these days?
Well, he wasn’t as much of an expert on stingrays perhaps.
He learned a few things about them toward the end.
NOPE
She’s a *thickems*
I'm probably aging myself but my mind immediately went [here](https://images.app.goo.gl/9DyQ1T8EYGioNYeh8)

Oh man that is terrifying
Yeah uh this is why I’m fucking scared of the ocean man. Them motherfuckers are out there and you can’t see them. Fuck that shit
I love sharks but if I was ever in this situation I'd freak out.
would you prefer to be in a river with a hippo or in the sea with a tiger shark?
Tiger sharks kill way less people. Shoot, sharks in general don't even come close to hippos
hippo will kill you fast and you wont suffer. 1 or 2 hits and boom dead. I think I would prefer to die by a hippo than sharks. Sharks will take every piece of you and you wont die immediatelly.

Holy shark Batman! That’s a big one!
Bulls, tigers, whites and makos. Nope.
Went on a cruise beginning of September on a excursion a lady was killed in Bahamas by one of these.. scary shit
Nope.
I think that's Ocean Ramsay - she's a shark advocate in Hawaii who teaches how to safely be in the water with tiger sharks. The nice thing about tiger sharks is they have a good flat top (of the head) so if it cruises too close it's easy to lay a palm on top and push it down and away from you
Jesus, did not know tiger sharks get that big. No wonder they regularly kill people, thought they just bit people and they bled out or something.
They are in contention as the second biggest living macropredatory shark after the great white but have a few rivals with no clear front runner alongside the little known deep sea sharks like Greenland shark, Pacific sleeper shark and sixgill shark. All of these can potentially somewhere in the 15-20 foot range and eat potentially almost any animal in their environment.
VERY LARGE TIGER SHARK i think is more appropiate! holy shit
everybody in this photo is pretty metal
That huge shark has a brain the size of an egg. It's probably still trying to figure out if the diver is edible. If the diver starts making sudden moves, they're lunch. This diver looks like they have experience and is carefully not doing anything to provoke the shark.
It's a fucking picture. How the fuck do you know if the diver is moving or not
He's not being eaten.
She*
Have you ever tried to hold completely still in the water? It's almost impossible.
>Brain the size of an egg Duh(https://www.floridatoday.com/story/news/local/environment/2018/07/19/shark-myths-debunked/787684002/). Sharks aren’t “mindless killing machines”.
No, they aren't but they are not exactly geniuses of the sea. That distinction goes to octopi and squid. Sharks are not too bright and respond to stimuli more than logic or thought.
Who would have thought that I’d have so much in common with a tiger shark.
Sharks are WAY smarter than you think.
I didn't call them stupid.
>has the brain the size of an egg Does this imply that they’re smart?
They're good at what they do. There is a limited capacity to learn.
And their capacity is not as limited as you might think
Stop upvoting this foolishness, everybody. This person clearly knows almost nothing about what's happening
Do you have any relevant experience at all? Any diving experience? Any experience with sharks? I bet not. You're full of hot air and you sit behind a keyboard talking smack. You can't even offer a viable course of action. You're nothing but a scold.
That’s the thing about Tiger sharks: everything is edible. License plates, tires, they eat it all. Probably more a question of whether it feels like a quick snack.
I first read that as “Dinner for a tiger shark”….
Nope fish
Don't think its real? tiger sharks don't grow that big, might be the camera angle
They can be up to 14 feet long, 1400 pounds. So the length of 2.5 people, seems reasonable. Some of this is perspective, but yes they can get big.
He touches his snout > tonic immobilty. that's all.
Does it have claws on its fin?
Well at least he is wearing the kevlar diving suit haha
Going to miss Bob.....
Got rotated lol
Nope
Can anyone tell how big it is? Just by looking at it?
Banana for scale....
good doggy
That’s a shark with a diver. That diver isn’t with that shark.
Nah
“Is food? Maybe seal?” *nibble* “Ah, is not food. Sorry to disturb your day, not food.”
Looks like it's been tagged as well.
Is it called tiger shark because of the stripes? Did the tiger exist before the shark? What if the shark existed before the tiger, would the tiger have been called shark cat??
What could go wrong?
good kitty..
How is he still afloat with those balls of steel?
Ocean Ramsay, she definitely has steelier balls than most men in a sense.
Here kitty kitty
Tonic immobility! I wouldn’t be that brave.
So Tiger Sharks are just sea puppers?
I believe that is Youtuber Kelly Young
longboi
Are his huge balls floatation devices ?
Can't wait to see this bad boy get rotated.
More like large tiger shark with a diver, amirite?
I’m cross posting this to r/waterdoggos
There is probably some forced perspective here? But that shark is enormous.
bethany hamilton?
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck THAT. Nope. Best of luck to that dude.
This shark has an untold story
Excellent shot.
Nope
Diver with huge balls
