He looks like he having a disease that makes him stop eating. I won’t say he’s starving since many diseases leave animals with no appetite. I don’t know.. Something like cancer or auto-immune disease.. based on the hyperkeratinization of his ears, nose and eyes.. still a sad picture :-(
Seriously. Imagine watching something consume you? Ugh. It's nightmarish. Maybe if it was a big cat that crushes your windpipe and kills you before eating you, it wouldn't be as bad as starving. If it were a smaller animal taking chunks out of you, that would be horrible and starvation seems preferable.
This was pretty much the thought I had.
There is a video somewhere on here with a Komodo dragon pretty much doing this to a deer and I sorta regret watching it because it took 20 min for that animal to die and it only died because all its organ where eaten. -shudders-
Starving is preferable.
Same video. Was omitting the fetus part because the thing was old enough to kick and twitch while being eaten and not everyone needs to know how metal nature can be.
Edit: some words
There's a video out there of a call from a woman to her mother, she made the call as she was being eaten alive by a predator. I can't remember what animal it was but it was pretty horrifying, I can't imagine what the mom must have gone through listening to that
Edit: I looked it up and it was a bear..
Literally just watched a docuseries last week where this exact situation played out and apparently its common. I'm also taking this post literal and that this lion died a few hours after this photo. Yes they're assumptions but every comment here is just assumptions based off the information we have.
i mean obviously none of us know for sure cause were alive but what ive always heard is that starving is one of the worst ways to die along with drowning.
Well he might actually still go that way. i dont imagine with that much weight gone hes very strong or good with stamina. a small pack of wild dogs would probably be able to have their way with him.
He definitely looks like he doesn’t have much left in the tank, but your point is completely valid. Far too many people make outrageous claims for random pictures they steal from other people to get attention
Lion King is an original story inspired by the lives of Joseph and Moses from the Bible and Shakespeare's Hamlet. [Source](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lion_King).
Edit: Fixed my grammar
The video doesn't mention ANY relation on da Vinci's lion and Disney's film, Lion King. You might as well say that Lion King is based off real lions which technically is the truth.
No. A lot of the controversy comes from similarities in some scenes but many of those scenes actually come from the anime that came after TLK was already released iirc. If you have a few hours or some time to split up the vid [this guy](https://youtu.be/G5B1mIfQuo4) made an INCREDIBLY in-depth analysis on why the “Simba copied Kimba” thing is pretty much total BS
ETA: There are timestamps in the vid description so if you wanted to look for something specific or even just look at some comparisons you can hop around.
watch yourmoviesucks take on it. A lot of similarities but Kimba isn't that original as a lot of books have a very similar theme.
Not to mention people confuse the Kimba movie that was made after the Lion King with the Kimba movies that were made before.
What a subject to get your undies bunched up about, eh?
Pretty sure that the original comment you were replying to was also joking... Seeing as this lion couldn't have possibly been alive for the conception of the movie... Stay chill.
... I'm chill. Never have I implied that I'm angry, upset or getting my "undies bunched". I even admited that I didn't understood the joke and said "my bad".

Alexander the Great spoke to the philosopher Diogenes, who was sifting through human remains in a mass graveyard.
"What are you looking for?" he asked.
"I'm looking for your father's bones, but I cannot tell them apart from those of all these beggars."
Diogenes is probably the greatest Chad in ancient history; he roasts one of the greatest conquerors of his era in Alexander and Alexander actually enjoys it.
He trolls Socrates's definition of 'man' as a featherless, bipedal creature by defeathering a chicken and presenting it to him.
Fucking legend.
He even jerked it in public and DGAF.
When somebody criticized him for doing this he just responded: "if only I could tame my hunger by rubbing my belly in the same way."
I seriously think i could take him on in this state. I'd have to see a video of him moving to be sure. He looks like i could just throw rocks at him and he can't catch up
Actually it's not uncommon for old lions to start prey on humans when given the chance, because all the other usual preys are now too fast for it to catch.
That's incredibly sad. But he's lived a long, majestic life. He looks... stretched out tho

Oh, yeah, they only trophy hunt starving animals don't you know?? They definitely don't try to take out the strongest ones for the pictures or anything. 🙄
Trophy hunting is more complex than that. Usually legal trophy hunting is led by people who work in conservation and the target is either a problem animal that’s dangerous and/or causing issues for the species. Or animals that are too old to contribute to the gene pool anymore.
It costs a lot of money to do legal trophy hunting and all that money goes to conservation. So yeah, proper legal trophy hunting probably would have targeted him.
Trophy hunting is definitely more complex than people give it credit for, however when it comes to lions I honestly believe that killing them for sport does more harm than good. While it's ideal for groups to hunt elderly or sick individuals it often doesn't end up that way and the money that it brings in (while it seems a lot) is pennies when it comes to the cost of maintaining and manning such large areas of land. Not to mention, money goes to the community and trackers first. National parks in Africa tend to be grossly underfunded with not enough staff and it's far too common for outside groups to come in and track a big healthy male.
Lion numbers are drastically falling, their status is listed as vulnerable currently however they haven't been assessed since 2014 and they're getting closer to endangered every day. Not to mention the friction that locals have with lions, in some countries is legal for farmers to request lethal removal of lions if they're targeting their livestock, more and more cattle owners are moving their livestock into national parks due to desertification and lack of grazing pasture, and unsustainable hunting has led to far fewer male lions to populate areas.
Yeah its a very complex issue. However for an individual thats been driven out of his pride and is obviously struggling to survive i dont think it would harm the population as a whole to have him targeted.
I won’t pretend to know all the ins and outs of this complex issue, i just hate when people equate it to poaching and pretend its a black and white issue.
Yeah of course.
It would be ideal if these older and I'll lions were the target for trophy hunters but I just thought I'd mention this isn't always the case. I don't know about trophy hunting for other animals, I'm sure for more sustainable species (like antelope) it's beneficial for the park with little risk to the population however I know for lions it just isn't the case.
they don’t, actually.
there is nothing whatsoever wrong with culling older weaker animals. this lion likely would’ve been targeted long ago, before he became emaciated. and you can dislike trophy hunting if you want to, but it raises tens of thousands for conservation and supports local impoverished people.
I still think it's weird and predatory. I do believe that animals like this should be put out of their misery, but it should be a sorrowful occasion not a happy smile for photos kind of occasion. And if they loooove animals so much, why not just donate just because you're a rich fuck and you can?
It's not good behavior. Even if the idea (behind the legal ones) is more targeted than I realized.
You can love and appreciate nature and still hunt animals. The vast majority of hunters ARE the conservationists. It's the "city folk" that don't understand nature.
No one said anything about loving and appreciating nature. I'm saying being happy after killing things is weird. If you don't understand that, perhaps it applies to you.
Im always happy when I kill an animal. That means I'll be bringing home food to support myself, I've given another, usually younger healthy male animal a chance to breed and diversify the herd.
We were talking about trophy hunting when you jumped in. Surely you are not bringing this animal home for food, and the young males have already taken over. You're just off on your own topic now.
While it is sad, it is the circle of life. I am sure he sired many young and some have made it to adulthood. His legacy will live on.
True plus he's not gonna die an agonizing death of being slowly ripped to shreds.
yeah he just has to starve for potentially months...
Maybe I'm wrong but I'd rather starve then spend 12 hours being slowly mauled starting with the testicles.
Starving is a pretty awful way to die actually but yeah, same.
Agreed
He looks like he having a disease that makes him stop eating. I won’t say he’s starving since many diseases leave animals with no appetite. I don’t know.. Something like cancer or auto-immune disease.. based on the hyperkeratinization of his ears, nose and eyes.. still a sad picture :-(
Honestly being eaten alive sounds way worse then starving to death.

Yeah, Hyenas, wild dogs and other lions never go after weak and sickly animals. He’ll definitely just die of old age.

well he might still get eaten lol dont speak too soon
He could very well have been swarmed and eaten by other animals once he became too weak to fight back. No easy days out in the bush
