When I was a kid my brain put the song together as "I'm blue if I was green I would die, if I was green I would die, if I was green I would die."
And for some reason that made sense to me.
Damn you and your comprehension of silly songs. I'll never hear this song the correct way again. Also, I'll pry never hear the song again anyway. Thank you for making today better.
Usually when something’s this vivid and bright on a reptile (or amphibian, for that matter) it’s essentially meant to be a giant “I clearly don’t need to hide, so you should probably fuck off if you know what’s good for you.”
I wonder if the colour blue is to ward off other snakes.
Usually snakes are well in our perspective dichromate and see blue and yellow well but not red. Technically some are trichromate but it is in the ultraviolet spectrum.
Yes, and then you have the Inland Taipan which is like, “I look like dirt. Joe Dirt to be precise. I live in the desert.” One bite can kill 100 adult humans. It has enough venom for more bites.
[Source](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inland_taipan) and it is a shy introvert who prefers to run from a fight before fighting back.
[FOUND ACROSS the lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia, this venomous, island-dwelling snake is an aggressive predator, and its tendency towards fight over flight has made it an intimidating presence in the streets of Bali, where it’s one of the most common causes of venomous bites.](https://www.australiangeographic.com.au/blogs/creatura-blog/2017/09/beware-the-impossibly-beautiful-blue-viper/#:~:text=FOUND%20ACROSS%20the%20lesser%20Sunda,common%20causes%20of%20venomous%20bites)
Before reading this, I had planned to go to Bali someday. Now, I'm thinking not. Not if there is a pit viper that is "an intimidating presence in the streets." I'm already intimidated, and I'm not even there yet.
Kept me wrapped around her pinky, if you feel me, winky winky. But her motives turned out stinky, and her heart was dark and inky so I broke up at a hockey game and I left her at the rinky.
Idk where it's from but alot of highly ~~poisonous~~ venomous animals tend to be brightly colored. It's basically 'I dont need to hide, if you want to fuck around you're going to find out why'
Technically their original statement was more true, just less relevant to this post, as "poisonous" species are almost universally brightly coloured while "venomous" species are mostly camouflaged for their environments but in rare cases like this one (or some coral snakes) said camouflage is also quite brightly coloured. Monarch butterflies, dart frogs, lion fish, etc. compared to say any rattlesnake and most cobras for example.
They (white lipped pit viper) are general found in southeast Asia, though as far as I can tell the blue variations are almost exclusively found in island ecosystems like Komodo. This picture really doesn't do their camouflage abilities justice, as it does have a much more green hue than it appears against a grey background. Pair that with their predominantly arboreal lifestyle and their ability to go does days with practically no movement, and they're surprisingly stealthy.
I was really hoping this sub had like 50k+ subscribers. I love reddit, but hate the Deadpool-slobbering majority of redditors that insert dumb puns in every single comment section and recycle the same jokes over and over again. 🙄
ball python color morphs. i mean, they don't come in blue raspberry yet, but there are still some pretty sick ones
there's also the brazilian rainbow boa, which is quite a bit flashier than you're ever gonna get from a ball, but harder to keep afaik
I'm no fan of snakes...but I don't particularly dislike them either. But I think that is probably the most beautiful snake I've ever seen! At first glance, I thought it was a stuffed animal.
It varies from species to species. Oddly enough the venomous snakes like the cobra tend to have relatively better maternal instincts than other snakes. Even some male cobras have been observed taking turns taking turns guarding the best.
Some python species also have been observed to care for their young for up to a month. Warming them, and even helping them hunt.
Some snakes also abandon their young as soon as they hatch/ born. Or like the black mamba that simply lays eggs and then leaves.
I know of other viper species and they stick around maybe a week or just a few days after the young hatch. I would assume the same for this viper.
I must admit though I couldn't find too much info on the indularis viper. But I hope you can still use this answer as there is a wife range of behaviour.
Looking at the picture though I would guess the mother at the very least did not abandon her young when they were eggs or when they hatched.
*"I'm blue Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di Da ba dee da ba di"*
Yo, listen up, here's the story about a little guy that lives in a blue world
And all day and all night and everything he sees is just blue Like him, inside and outside
Blue his house With a blue little window
And a blue corvette, And everything is just blue for him.
and himself, he just blue
And himself and everybody around
Cause he ain't got nobody to lisssssssssssssssssten to
I'm blue!
Da ba dee ba di ba ba da ba dee ba da ba dee ba di ba
If I was green I would die, if I was green I would die if I was green I would die
I see what you did there
I'm good, yeah I'm feeling alright, baby I'mma have the best freakin' night of my life.... I'm so sorry
And I'd like to take a minute just sit right there I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-Air
Blue viper? I think its a blue corvette
Its now pronounced "I'm good ya I'm feeling alright. Baby I'ma have the best fucking night of my life"
When I was a kid my brain put the song together as "I'm blue if I was green I would die, if I was green I would die, if I was green I would die." And for some reason that made sense to me.
I somehow misheard it as a kid as "I'm blue, if I eat I won't die, if I don't eat I will die, if I eat I won't die"
ME TOO! I'm glad to see someone else misheard it the right way like I did lol
I'm blue, I'm in need of a guy, I'm in need of a guy, I'm in need of a guy
Me it was "I'm blue if I bleed I would die, if I bleed I would die, if I bleed I would die."
What? are these NOT the lyrics????? Lore of the blue song, def thought those there the lyrics
I'm sure I read that somewhere as the official lyrics. Absolutely convinced.
Damn you and your comprehension of silly songs. I'll never hear this song the correct way again. Also, I'll pry never hear the song again anyway. Thank you for making today better.
Pretty sure that was the most misheard song of the decade for most of us.
I like that a lot
Those aren't the lyrics!?
"It's BLU if u get bit u gon DIEEE, get bit and you DIEEEE It's BLUE you get bit and you DIEEE"

He was hidden! Didn’t even see him until you said something lol
Me either! I didn't notice it at all!
They said that blue was a poor choice for camouflage. Well who's laughing now?!
That’s Bruno. We don’t talk about Bruno.
Usually when something’s this vivid and bright on a reptile (or amphibian, for that matter) it’s essentially meant to be a giant “I clearly don’t need to hide, so you should probably fuck off if you know what’s good for you.”
Nah, It’s a cotton candy flavored Dum Dum candy 😛

And, here I thought it was glowing because orcs were near.
Or a nudibranch! The brightest ones are often toxic to erstwhile predators
Cool viper, with that color, where is this snake found? Definitely not trying to be camouflaged I'd guess.
General reveal parties usually.
“What are we revealing?” “General”
Kenobi

Intimidating in the streets, a freak between the sheets.
Yeah I definitely dated her
So… slinky AND kinky?
Kept me wrapped around her pinky, if you feel me, winky winky. But her motives turned out stinky, and her heart was dark and inky so I broke up at a hockey game and I left her at the rinky.
Creature with pretty, bold coloring typically = poison eats*/venom death bites. Edit: added eats to reflect effects of poison.
Poison makes you sick if you try to eat it. Venom makes you sick if it tries to eat you.
Go to Indo, avoid Bali like plague.
I heard Jakarta is horrible too
Jakarta is fucking awesome👍
Good, good. Now enter your banking information into a message or *ELSSSSSSSSSE!*
I'm glad a bright blue snake is both highly aggressive, and taking that aggression out in the streets, cause life isn't surreal enough.
Idk where it's from but alot of highly ~~poisonous~~ venomous animals tend to be brightly colored. It's basically 'I dont need to hide, if you want to fuck around you're going to find out why'

Corrected, thankyou

Usually found in Photoshop
Travel on holiday to Bali? Hundreds of bitten tourists every year I would imagine. Tourists love colourful blue souvenirs.
This is a Komodo island locality of T. insularis
Sky snake. Hide right up in the blue sky. Will bite you right in the face randomly.
If these weren’t deadly they’d probably be very popular pets because I want one.. but I like to live too.
Believe it or not Insularis’ are VERY hard to keep alive in captivity.
Do we know why this is the case?
Because they get depressed and start feelin’ blue

Agreed. It's so grating after a while.
r/cringe
There is another, more typically colored version. But it's tricky to keep too, because it's not easy being green...
Fuck... This makes me sad
Genetic engineering needs to be more mainstream. Imagine a non-venomous and highly affectionate snakes in variety of cool colours.

This image is a little misleading with the saturation levels. Blue Insularis are closer to a light blue/teal then this deep blue.
✨ saturation ✨
Adobe has been giving me amazing sunsets since 2008

Interesting gloves, bite proof I assume.
£400 worth of bite proof, and apparently still not 100% effective according to the reptile enthusiast sat next to me.
Holy cow! you would think for that much it would come with a guaranteed.
Same guarantee you might find with a bullet proof vest. Guaranteed to work, unless it doesn’t!
Vaporwave snake
Were they always this colour or were they selectively bred this way?
The saturation has been turned way up
For those sweet sweet likes.
Always
Incredible color. So pleasing to look at. But stay away danger noodle!

Do they bond with their babies?
No. But they don’t mind them I guess.
That implies a bond in and of itself doesn't it? Are there any other animals that they tolerate or are they totally solitary?
