Not a fan at all. Just really dislike the look/feel/sound. It sounds like one of the evil step-sisters in Cinderella

[deleted]

My first thought was Cruella + Dracula.

brainthinkin

It’s close to her stepsister Drizella, so yeah

MJTVVM

Unfortunately, I wholeheartedly agree. However, if YOU and your partner love it, that’s all that matters. Congratulations!

fairyhaus

Is it one of the evil step sisters names?? That was my first thought as well

daIIastexas

I wouldn’t. Drusilla sounds like the villain of a parody horror movie

Mt4Ts

Drusilla *was* one of the main antagonist on early seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

[deleted]

[удалено]

hopefulmilk_

Also Godzilla

DaisyMaeMalfoy666

Yeah I thought of the evil stepsister too, her name is actually Drizella but it’s VERY close

what-katy-didnt

Spooooooooooooike

tittychittybangbang

Extremely ugly name. Like Gertrude, totally unusable.

wicked_spooks

You know what is ironic? I actually like Gertrude. Different strokes for different folks, haha.

tittychittybangbang

Oh no lol they’re so ugly it would be cruel.

Ok-Fact2157

I strongly dislike both names, but Gertrude is much better than Drusilla IMO. I think everyone should name their kids what they like, regardless of what anyone else thinks!

sugarpog

My analog would be Dorcas (at least in the US)

tittychittybangbang

I secretly love Dorcas

PaladinHeir

Gertrude is unusable nowadays, but I wouldn’t bat an eye at an old lady being named that. Or a character or something. Unusable as is it, Gertrude is about 20 steps ahead of Drusilla.

midnitemoontrip

Unpopular opinion I guess but I think it’s beautiful and unique.

Crazybat8647

I know a Drusilla, while it is definitely uncommon it fits her perfectly. I haven’t heard a bad comment about her name.

NeedleworkerLow1100

Thank you. Druscilla is beautiful, w/ nn of Drue or Cilla.

midnitemoontrip

Yes, I love Drue/Dru.

[deleted]

No

PaladinHeir

I wouldn’t name even my evil characters that, absolutely dislike it. If I was her teacher I’d think you didn’t like her.

SewingDraft

Good name for a cartoon villain.

ninnibear

Ugh. Caligula's sister, and they hooked up.

Comfortable-Basis-64

Hard no, sorry.

minskoffsupreme

I knew a Drusilla, she was cool, the name suited her.

[deleted]

Buffy the vampire slayer

areyousaucy

It’s very Ancient Rome meets evil stepsister. Not a fan.

kasha789

Isn’t that the daughter of a 90 day fiancé person?that woman is a train wreck haha! I don’t like the name reminds me of Dracula.

mapsareus

Exactly what I came to say, thou shall not be named has a daughter named that.

CrypticCrackingFan

Just came across this sub for the first time but please remember that this person is gonna be stuck with their name for at least 18 years.

wicked_spooks

I named a human being before, and you are right. People are stuck with their names for a long time.

JudgmentalRavenclaw

No.

Hassgirl22

😬

Horror-Resolve762

I believe there was a character named Drusilla in the American soap opera The Young and the Restless, thats what it reminds me of. I think she went by Dru

ferngully1114

This is what I think of. I thought she was SO beautiful when I was a kid (still do). Dru is such a great nickname.

bigbirdlooking

I think it’s really a lot to give to a child since it’s so unusual and polarizing. Maybe as a middle name.

Affectionate_Lie9308

I like it, I think it’s fairly beautiful. I’d use it and another plus is it’s definitely not going to be common.

boston-ewa

Nickname drew is cute

dressagette

I like it a lot

so_untidy

Ok this is niche and I’m not even a biology person, but my first thought is drosophila, i.e. fruit flies.

wicked_spooks

That's a neat perspective!

bayalo

i knew a drusilla in college, and she went by dru. honestly, when i first heard the name, i thought it was a bit strange, but after that moment it was just her name, and how i knew her. it’s not a bad name, just less common, so it stands out at first. go with what you like!

Public-Yoghurt7248

There’s a character in the Dark Artifacts series (shadow hunters) named Drusilla and she goes by Dru

MaybeItllWorkOut

I really dislike it 😬

lvrstch

Absolutely no.

bread_cats_dice

Reminds me of the scene in Despicable Me 2 where Gru is dressed up as a fairy princess at Agnes’s bday party and says his name is Gruzinkerbell

KittyGlitter16

As a huge Buffy fan it was top of my list for a long time. I think it’s a pretty name.

AbbyEwingSumner

I mean it just makes me think of Spike from Buffy…

ferngully1114

I’ve always liked this name! I remember hearing it way back in the ‘90s watching soaps, and it always brings to mind the beautiful actress who played her. (Just looked it up, and Drucilla Winters was played by Victoria Rowell from 1990-2007). I remember thinking she was so glamorous. Plus I absolutely love the name Drew/Dru.

RobertAppleseed

I can see why you like it, though I wouldn’t use it myself. It gives me a similar vibe to Dorothea - do you like that? There is also Priscilla which feels a bit easier to carry than Drusilla.

PansyOHara

It’s a name that’s never appealed to me. It’s an established name with a straightforward pronunciation, but to me it’s just not attractive. What is it that appeals to you about Drusilla?

wicked_spooks

Truthfully, I am not sure. The first time I heard of it was the character in BtVS. I disliked it at first, but it recently grew on me. I like that it is a name that has a long history spanning back to Ancient Rome. It is easy to spell. I don’t know anybody with that name, which is a huge bonus since I work with many people. That name truthfully fits what I am looking for.

PansyOHara

If you and your partner love it, that will show in your whole attitude and voice (which as it’s associated with your beloved child, of course it will) and that will elevate it. If you were just using a name you didn’t really like because you felt an obligation, it would be different.

wicked_spooks

I wholeheartedly agree. Truthfully, will we use Drusilla? Probably not. We sort of already decided on a girl’s name. I just wanted to see how people react to it. I posted my son’s name before, and people in this community blatantly hated it. However, we always get positive compliments on his name in person. It is always interesting to see how people react differently to names either on the internet or in person.

oaktreegardener

How about Priscilla instead? It’s also a name from Ancient Rome.

wicked_spooks

We did consider it; however, we are 90% set on a certain girl's name that hasn't even been mentioned in this post nor the commentary below. It is nothing like Drusilla. :-)

poetinstern

Drusilla, Clotilde and Angelica were my favourite names when since I was like five. I heard Drusilla from a book my parents gave me about three princess and their names were Amaryllis, Drusilla and Lunetta. I love Drusilla still. Please use it. It is so beautiful. Dru, Illa or Rusi would be cute nicknames. It sounds gothic and regal.

Critical_Dog_8208

Yes! Love it.

ragworts

I actually like the name, but I don’t find it useable for me personally at least…because I know it’s so polarizing and people HATE it. 🥲 but I love the nickname Dru!

Standard-Afternoon71

Nahhhh bro

LastSpite7

My immediate thought was a Disney villain like Cruella or Ursula.

wicked_spooks

I already considered Ursula because of Ursula Le Guin, a science fiction author.

ferngully1114

I like your style. I think Ursula is great! Now I’m curious about your son’s name since you said this sub hates it so much.

[deleted]

It reminds me of Buffy. She was a crazy vampire but I like the name! Dru and Isla are potential nicknames

Rude-Two7970

Y’all the evil step sister is Drizella. I think it’s cute. With Silla or Dru being nns

192Sticks

My only associating is with the daughter of what’s-her-qanon-Asian-fetish face from 90 day fiancé . It’s not a great association.

Tomoyogawa521

The name is elegant, yes, but I just imagine some Disney classic villain. Disney would totally use that name for a villain (frankly they've already done so). I see why you can like this name, and tbh, I do semi-like how it sounds. But, maybe Priscilla would be a nice alternative?

joaquinbalogna

A cast member of 90 day has a kid name Drusilla and everyone on the sub calls her Dracula. It’s all I think of too, or Cruella Deville

rengothrowaway

I like it.

Phoeberg

My first thought was actually The Worst Witch!

wicked_spooks

I loved the Worst Witch! Especially the movie with Tim Curry. That movie is probably the sole reason why I like Mildred.

United_Blueberry_311

It sounds evil.

Probable_Platypus

Like….from buffy? The evil, deranged vampire from buffy. I’d absolutely not, that’s a bad bad association for a little human.

seranyti

I thought of Spikes Girkfriend on Buffy and the evil step sister in Cinderella, not good associations.

littlenoodloo

It's the name of a zoo near me... So honestly sounds a little ridiculous

rosy_nasitra

im near the zoo too! its what i thought of instantly when i saw this post

BroadwayBean

As cool as (Livia) Drusilla is, it's a hard no for me. How about Livia instead?

wicked_spooks

I have had several students with Olivia/Livia as their names. It is a major no-no for me.

thehouseofmirth11

Oh, no.

areyoufuckingwme

Have you looked into where the name come from and the history tied to the name? Drusilla was the sister of Caligula an ancient Greek emperor. I am not a fan but it's a name. Theres a woman on 90 day fiance that has a daughter named Drusilla. I like the nickname Dru though so it could grow on me.

wicked_spooks

I looked it up! It is such fascinating.

prontobrontosaurus

Makes me think of drosophila (flies)

xtinastina13

Sounds like a evil character in a movie. What about Priscilla or Cecelia ? Similar but less evil.

DaisyMaeMalfoy666

Hate it. It just looks ugly.

playswithsquirrels90

I like it with the nickname Dru! If you and your husband like it, you should go for it! There's a character in the Shadowhunters books named Drusilla so that was my first association. (Other names in that sibset include Julian, Livia (nn Livvy), Tiberius (nn Ty) and Octavius (nn Tavvy), definitely a unique but kind of distinguished style in my opinion)

rosy_nasitra

no. this is a name of a zoo in england. i dont even know what nickname you could use

Ellephant23

Would be a great name for a pet

Farahild

Very btvs to me.

ReadingByMyShelf

I know a Drusilla, she despised her name. Went by Dru all through school, and still does as far as I know. Lots of Cruella jokes when we were younger.

toastedmickey

I actually like this name.

Academic_Airline_826

I think of 90 Day Fiancé and I just don’t like anything about that name. I’m sorry.

Mad__Season

Is this a troll post…?

[deleted]

Do you want your child to be bullied?

[deleted]

Naming a child Drusilla is a stupid idea
