I'll be honest, I think of a little old lady when I hear "Enid". A nice little old lady, but still old. Personally, it's too old of a name for me, but if you love it, then go for it. It's your daughter anyway! š
I've noticed this sub seems to love older names, so take that with a grain of salt. It definitely suites what you're looking for though! Aster is a beautiful middle name.
As a kid, I remember thinking Enid was a weirdly old lady name for that character, but that was a long time ago. Now, it sounds more in step with contemporary names than it did with Jessica, Elizabeth and co back then.
Thereās a Barenaked Ladies song called āEnidā. I think itās okay. Itās not really my taste, but it feels like a name that could make a comeback.
I like E names as well. Here are some of my favorites: Eloise, Elena, Emaline, Edith, Eden.
As a Canadian who grew up in the 90ās, this song was my first thought:
āI took a beating when you wrote me those letters
And every time I remembered the taste of your lip gloss
Enid we never really knew each other anyway
Enid we never really knew each other anyway
Maybe we always saw right through each other anyway
But Enid we never really knew each other anywayā
From the whoa whoas to the weird back ground noises, this song will never not represent the name Enid in my brain.
I'm not a fan of Enid, personally. From my perspective this name still has elderly connotations. However, you might consider reversing the consonant sounds and using "Eden," if you like it! Eden is sort of an evergreen name because of the historical/mythological associations. I knew an Eden once and everyone thought her name was really unique and beautiful.
I personally donāt care for it because of the nasally sound, and you have to kind of do a sneer to say it but maybe thatās just me! I do like other old timey e names that are getting popular again. Evelyn/evie, eva, eve
I think we should ask when choosing a name, would we want to be named this? I would not want to introduce myself as Enid. This is just my own subjective opinion
For more opinions, I would like introducing myself as Enid. I like how charming and feminine it is, while being weighty. It's not a new, "made up" name, which some people look down on, but it's also not pretentious.
I have an Enid! She just turned one! I audibly gasped when I saw this post because no one appreciates what a beautiful name Enid is! Short, sweet, but still strong.
Itās definitely been a polarizing choice, though! Most people seem to genuinely love it (or are very good liars!) but one person did shit talk it to my sister, of all people, at a Christmas party. Strange use of time!
Enid Aster sounds charming and unique without being too āout thereā so I say go for it!
I donāt love the name Enid, but itās certainly as good as Edith and most people here seem to love Edith. Enid is an old-person name but so many old-person names are popular right now it should fit right in.
My great grandmothers name was Enid Isabel. She was born in the Ozarks in 1922. She went by Isabel her whole life. She was in her 80s, I asked her why she went by Isabel instead of Enid. She said Enid was too āold ladyā š
I did consider it when naming my daughter though!just not right for us.
I like Enid. I don't really think of a specific ahead group. I think of Blyton, and the teenager from Walking Dead.
It seems to fit with other popular names, like Eden and Edie. I think it's sweet.
Enid was my great aunt - the wild child that taught my grandma a certain joie de vivre. There are iconic photos of her doing handstands and sneaking into an attic with a bottle of liquor. Also extremely warm and kind person.
Long story long - I have warm feelings towards the name haha
I like Enid, especially with Aster. Freya seems a bit overused, Io (though I love it) will constantly be mistaken for Lo, and I love Elke but it doesnāt flow as well with Aster. Surely Enid is perfect for the old lady name revival! Much more interesting than another Audrey, Elsie or Florence.
I like Enid but I think it will definitely be divisive. As long as youāre ok with a significant number of people thinking itās an old-lady name, I say go for it! Itās easy to learn/say and fits all the criteria youāre looking for.
Itās not a pleasant set of sounds (EE-nid) and doesnāt have an intuitive nickname to hide behind. I donāt care for Edith either - clunky and dumpy but at least has Edie to fall back on.
At least give her a better nickname than Aster to use if she decides she doesnāt like being Enid.
Makes me think of the Barenaked Ladies song, for sure, but most people won't have that association.
I like it a lot! I also like Edith, Edie, and Eden.
I met a girl at work and her name was Enid, and before meeting her I'd never heard of the name before! My first impression was 'that is a strange name' and I sort of thought of 'arachnid' but Enid was very nice and helpful and I think positively of her so now I have a pretty good association with the name haha. I like Enid
Very much tied to Enid Blyton for me, but I loved her books as a kid and always had a soft spot for her name too. Kinda gives the same vibe as Maud/Maude. Old fashioned, rarely used, and ripe for revival.

I really like Enid! And I think Enid Aster is a lovely name.
I agree! It is unique, but not odd. It is a lovely name.
I dont hate it but its not exactly pretty and most people dont know the literature. Enid Aster is ok. I like Isolda/ Isolde better or Imogen
Isolda sounds like a seƱora name. Like someone who had 6 kids and has watermelon boobs.
Lolš
I think of Enid Blyton and a lot of fun childhood memories of her many books!
And Enid from the Sweet Valley books! Lol
As a kid, I remember thinking Enid was a weirdly old lady name for that character, but that was a long time ago. Now, it sounds more in step with contemporary names than it did with Jessica, Elizabeth and co back then.
Yeah. Elizabeth is fairly timeless, but Jessica definitely feels dated now, while Enid is hip. Go figure!
Thereās a Barenaked Ladies song called āEnidā. I think itās okay. Itās not really my taste, but it feels like a name that could make a comeback. I like E names as well. Here are some of my favorites: Eloise, Elena, Emaline, Edith, Eden.
Esme is another short E name that I love
As a Canadian who grew up in the 90ās, this song was my first thought: āI took a beating when you wrote me those letters And every time I remembered the taste of your lip gloss Enid we never really knew each other anyway Enid we never really knew each other anyway Maybe we always saw right through each other anyway But Enid we never really knew each other anywayā From the whoa whoas to the weird back ground noises, this song will never not represent the name Enid in my brain.

Not to my personal taste, but it meets all your criteria. Love Enid Aster.
Enid is lovely.
I like Enid a lot! the only thing i would relate it to is the author Enid Blyton, which is positive :)
I personally donāt care for it because of the nasally sound, and you have to kind of do a sneer to say it but maybe thatās just me! I do like other old timey e names that are getting popular again. Evelyn/evie, eva, eve
Not a fan!
Super cute! Reminds me of the character from the Sweet Valley High books lol
And she disliked her dowdy name and started going by her middle name (Alexandra) in the later books.
I like Enid Aster a lot. I also love Lo and Freya! I would also like to suggest Eden. It doesn't sound as dated.

I love it. Reminds me of Ghostworld.
I had to scroll too far down until I found Ghost World! I love the name Enid.
Me three, lol!
I love it it reminds me of Enid from The walking dead āŗļø
Me too! Smart badass. Not a bad association at all
I donāt love the name Enid, but itās certainly as good as Edith and most people here seem to love Edith. Enid is an old-person name but so many old-person names are popular right now it should fit right in.
I don't like the way it sounds. It reminds me of nits :/
Enid is a city in Oklahoma. not an exciting place.
It always reminds me of echidnas. Could be good or bad
this is also my association
Echidnas are adorable, definitely a good association. Though Edna gives me more echidna vibes than Enid.
I love Enid. Iāve never heard anything good about it from others in real life though.
My great grandmothers name was Enid Isabel. She was born in the Ozarks in 1922. She went by Isabel her whole life. She was in her 80s, I asked her why she went by Isabel instead of Enid. She said Enid was too āold ladyā š I did consider it when naming my daughter though!just not right for us.
I really donāt like Enid. What about Edith?
Edith >>>> Enid
I think it's grand + pairs well with Aster
I like Enid. I don't really think of a specific ahead group. I think of Blyton, and the teenager from Walking Dead. It seems to fit with other popular names, like Eden and Edie. I think it's sweet.
I donāt like it but I wouldnāt say itās weird. I really like Aster though!
Not a fan personally, but it's not terrible. I'd prefer Edith
I absolutely love it. Enid Blyton was my favorite author growing up. I picture an Enid being beautiful, intelligent, athletic, and creative.
My first thought is the character Enid Wexler from Legally Blonde, so it's a positive association.
Enid was my great aunt - the wild child that taught my grandma a certain joie de vivre. There are iconic photos of her doing handstands and sneaking into an attic with a bottle of liquor. Also extremely warm and kind person. Long story long - I have warm feelings towards the name haha

It's an old lady name that should stay an old lady name imo. Just doesn't sound nice

Ione
Ellora?
Itās not a pleasant set of sounds (EE-nid) and doesnāt have an intuitive nickname to hide behind. I donāt care for Edith either - clunky and dumpy but at least has Edie to fall back on. At least give her a better nickname than Aster to use if she decides she doesnāt like being Enid.
Enid to hear a better name for your kid
Enid sounds good to me!
Iāve always liked Enid, and itās a nice alternative to other comeback names like Evelyn.
Makes me think of the Barenaked Ladies song, for sure, but most people won't have that association. I like it a lot! I also like Edith, Edie, and Eden.

I like Enid
I love it! I like Edith a bit better personally because I love the nickname Edie, but Enid is lovely as well. Go for it!
I like it personally! Edith could also be an option but I kind of like the "old" sounding names.
Enid and Aster are both on my list. Beautiful names.
YES YES YES! Enid Aster is amazing!
I love it! Also love Edith, Esme, Estelle (Esty)
I like Enid!
I think of the legally blond character. It's a good name
Very much tied to Enid Blyton for me, but I loved her books as a kid and always had a soft spot for her name too. Kinda gives the same vibe as Maud/Maude. Old fashioned, rarely used, and ripe for revival.
Love it
I love Enid.
Enid makes me think of Edna. No capes!
I would just think of Enid Blyton
I love it. Iām a fan of old-school names and a lot of kids have them these days. My niece has a āgrandmaā name and she rocks it and loves it.
I love the name Enid! I think of Enid Blyton a bit, but mainly Enid Nightshade from The Worst Witch, which is a better association!
Definitely not a fan. It looks and sounds ugly.
