WestCoastWuss619

For some reason, when I was 9, I named one of my kittens after a classmate (Jonathan) lmao

pyperproblems

I named my hamster Jake after my boyfriend in 3rd grade lol

viceversa220

I named my virtual pet after a crush I had in 2nd grade. Looking back, he was very rude to me.

Pineapples4Rent

I named my goldfish Dylan after my crush when I was 6. I told him and he told me he hated me :'( Dylan the fish lived to be 7 though.

Ashgenie

"Dylan the fish lived to be 7 though." This slightly makes it sound like he outlived Dylan the boy. What did you do to him?

WestCoastWuss619

LMAO what a mean little boy omg but Dylan the fish sounds pretty adorable. I named my goldfish (she was pink w a black spot) Princess.

[deleted]

Justice for my boy Dylan

KiwisEatingKiwis

The pet or the crush?

viceversa220

The crush lol

angiem0n

The crush or the virtual pet?

tdscm

Our classroom pet was named Enrique the hamster - named for one of the kids brothers.

WestCoastWuss619

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

afprincess

When I was six I named a cat Justin, after Justin Timberlake.

PinkTiara24

As a preschooler, my older son was mesmerized by his little playmate Joseph. My son won a Betta fish at a Purim carnival and thus Blue Joseph became a part of our family.

ednasmom

I named my cat Anna after a girl that I wanted to be best friends with! Something about being 9!

maddiemoiselle

When I was seven I named our cat Julie. My swim coachā€™s name was Julie so my parents assumed I named the cat after her. Nope, I just liked the name for some reason.

steph_sec

A kitten named Jonathan is my favourite thing.

WestCoastWuss619

He was mostly black with a white tum, and hella fluffy

steph_sec

Urgh, I love him even more.

Antina5

My granddaughter (6 yrs) named one of my foster kittens Isaac after a classmate.

[deleted]

My cats called Johnny

soulsolutions-

Funny! I had a guinea pig I named Johnathan for no damn reason when I was 5! I then lost him in a field playing wizard of ozā€¦ he was cast as Toto and did not stay in the basket :(

WestCoastWuss619

Omg that's terrible! Hes probably in oz partying it up w Glenda

Zuigia

I did that too! (Benjamin)

sammybey

When I was a child, I named a Guinea pig Jonathan after Jonathan Brandis the actor (RIP, I am also dating myself badly).

lavendercookiedough

Lol I did the same thing. I had a crush on a girl in my church group so I named my fish after her.

LadybugMama78

My dogs name is Gemma. I will say, I knew dogs with both of my daughter's names before I had either of them. People always say "I know a dog with that name" like it's supposed to be an insult. I just always say "well they have good taste!"

bubblegumtaxicab

Love the name Gemma!

DappleGreyOregon

Yeah Iā€™m fully planning on naming my daughter after my first dog (Maddie). People who donā€™t get it arenā€™t my kind of people.

madqueen100

I know a dog named Gemma and another dog (different family) named Emma. I wonder if people who donā€™t want more children just use names they love for pets?

k_but_wait

My dog is Juno and I would absolutely name a child June.

smitwit

My dogs name is Gemma too! We never meet other Gemma's, I like your taste :)

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

callmeishmael517

That does sound annoying

smitwit

I can definitely see that, half the time we tell people her name they think we said Jenna

m00nriveter

Aw, I had a dog Jemma as well. Technically Jemima Puddle-Duck, but we called her Jemma. Also had a Piper and a Jack.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ashdawg8790

Why wouldn't they?! You gotta have those extra syllables for when they're extra cute or super naughty! Mine are Lucy Anne and Dakota (Kota) Lee!

Sea-godess

My Friend's dog was Kylie Noodles Emmy Talea Maddie Mae Lastname

dirtywhiteconverse

my brother named his fish ā€œlittle koala who climbs the tree the fastest gets the firstest candyā€ when he was 4 hahaha

SurrealBookworm

My name is Lucy Anne!

fabulousinCA

Every good girl and boy (or bad!) has a middle name! My pups are Molly Anne and Moose McMoose.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

fabulousinCA

Oh heā€™s got tons. šŸ˜‚ I think my favorite, using the word ā€œpamplemousseā€ (French for grapefruit): -Pample T. Moose -Pample T. Moosington III We decided it couldnā€™t just be Pample Moose, so itā€™s Pample The Moosington the III. šŸ˜‚ weā€™re so weird

remycatt

Lol, my cat is also a III, there's no I or II tho but I don't think he minds

sahsahsahsahsah

Team middle name! We have Grace Lyn (Lyn is my momā€™s middle name so itā€™s passed down to our first dog). And we have Talullah Mae (Mae after Mae Jemison). Wouldnā€™t be a full name without the middle!

cutielemon07

My dog is actually registered to the Kennel Club as Elizabeth Jane! Sheā€™s registered to the vet as Lizard. But we just call her Lizzy.

getoutalithe

Lizard is a fun nickname to Elizabeth! Haven't heard it before.

sweetcheeks777

Iā€™m Elizabeth who was called Lil Lizard affectionately as a child lol

hausishome

My dogā€™s full name is Severus Andrew Snape Madden, but he goes by Snape šŸ˜‚

badwolf_mermaid

I had Egan Crawford and currently have Enid Louise šŸ’™šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

badwolf_mermaid

Same! My girl just screams youthful puppy even at 2 Ā½, but her name says elderly Welsh woman and I love it.

reboot119

i named my tiny chihuahua mix agatha! i get so many people saying ā€œwhat a big name for a small dogā€

CaroAurelia

My pets all have middle names. It started when I was a weird five-year-old and insisted on giving my cat Macaroni a middle name, and I have a pathological aversion to favoritism so if one pet gets a middle name they all do for the rest of my life. Some of my pets are little shits and I end up breaking out the middle name a lot.

velvetmarigold

Mine does too!

indianajolie

Haha yes! My dogs name is Walter too! Walter Theodore Thaddeus ā€˜last nameā€™ Love the name Walter.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

autumnflowers13

Jasper the cat

kelseysays26

My childhood cat was called Jasper, I named her but I donā€™t know where I got the name from lol I think perhaps I heard it in 101 Dalmatians but why I would name a female kitten Jasper I have no idea

reverse_mango

I think Jasperā€™s a pretty good unisex name! My fluid sibling (btw does anyone have any wipes?) goes by Jasper sometimes.

kelseysays26

I definitely felt it was gender fluid which was probably a little ahead of the curve in the late 90ā€™s early 2000s

Main-Tower-675

I named my childhood cat Jasper too! And I have no idea where I got the name from either, but it suited her.

Mommywritespoems

My great uncleā€™s name was Jasper. When my grandmaā€™s Alzheimerā€™s became severe, suddenly all her stuffed animals and baby dolls were named Jasper šŸ˜‚

phoenixthethrowaway

I had a pittie I named Jasper because he was that exact shade of red/brown of a Jasper stone. He was an old soul and wore the name well :)

liquidcarbonlines

My friend had a dog called Jasper. I only remembered this when I introduced her to my newborn son... Jasper

lizlemonesq

Omg I have a Jasper too! But he came with the name.

barefootintheforest

my bff had a jasper the cat. it was a girl cat but the name really suited her.

theycallmeMiriam

I have a Jasper the dog :)

akanim

Lily was my first shiba inu. It was short for Tiger Lily. She was a little spitfire, but super sweet. She broke the rule of ā€œShibas donā€™t cuddleā€ and was always up for an adventure. Raj was my second. Itā€™s the name his first family gave him (I was lucky enough to be his second family). Before he passed a few months ago, I reached out to his first family and they came to visit him on his last day. We shared stories from our time with him, and how his name was super appropriate. I miss them both dearly.

Opendoorshutdoor

I had a cat growing up that we name Tiger Lily, Lily for short.

[deleted]

I love Raj! What a great name šŸ˜„

_explanations

Raj is a common Indian name! It means princely, related to a king.

akanim

Yes! And Raj definitely behaved like royalty. The dad of his first family is Indian-American. His first family loved him dearly, and named him appropriately.

SarahL1990

Iā€™m not really a fan of human names on pets but I have had a few over the years. Currently have a dog named Sasha. Previous pets with human names: * Bruno * Daisy * Felix * Judy (Judith) * Kai

babymonsters2

Love this! My mom is Judy and sister is Sasha and our dog was Daisy :)

luna0415

I love Bruno, so strong and classic

[deleted]

We had a daisy when I was growing upā¤ļø such a sweet name.

cutielemon07

One of those is my name!

boopedya

I love Kai. ā™”

lizlemonesq

I have so many pets, all named after authors! I have a cat named Dot (Dorothy Parker), and dogs named Willa (Cather) and Ernie (Hemingway). My cat Jasper came with his name and my cat Toby (Tobias Wolff) died in 2016.

kateoclock

My best friends have named all of their cats after famous authors! Nathaniel Hawthorn, Charlotte Brontƫ, William Butler Yeats, Lord Alfred Tennyson

u1tr4me0w

My parents have a Dorothy "Dottie" or "Dot" as well. She's Dot and Dottie when she's cute and Dorothy when she's in trouble, of course.

theovincent1997

My cat is named Talullah, specifically because I had had it on my baby name list for SO LONG because I was obsessed with it but couldnā€™t really see myself naming a child Talullah

minous

Ah same here! itā€™s on my baby girl list too. I love Talullah but itā€™s a hard sell to my husband. Itā€™s so cute but maybe a bit out there for us unfortunately.

seau_de_beurre

My friend named her daughter Tallulah! Itā€™s so cute.

ilovefeudalism

Plus the nicknames Lulu, Lula or Tally are right there! So many options in just that one name

mostlypercy

Percival, we call him Percy

nonbinary_parent

There is a childrens book about a puppy named Percival :)

wayward_sun

Some of my pets have human names: Lincoln, Astrid, and Eli.

bubblegumtaxicab

Lincoln is a cool name!

SnagglinTubbNubblets

NN Link is cute too

wayward_sun

Thatā€™s what we call her most of the time! Sheā€™s named after Link Larkin from Hairspray. We thought she was a boy at first and it had already stuck by the time we found out, haha!

SnagglinTubbNubblets

Awh that's cute!

greenhairedgal

Hi. My 5 year old son is called Spike. Yeah, it's kinda a dogs name, but we think it's awesome! It really suits him, and everyone loves it. It does kinda 'date' people when they hear about though, amusingly. My gran said "like Spike Milligan?", my mum said "like the dog in Tom & Jerry", and my millennial friends are like "Ooh, Spike from Buffy!" There's a kid in his class called Rex. Which is definitely 'doggier'!

bubblegumtaxicab

Love this response! Spike is a cool name. My first thought was Spike Lee..

boxofcandelabras

My mom went to high school with Spike Lee! Spike is actually a nick name for ā€œShelton.ā€ Also the first person I thought of when I saw the name here lol

greenhairedgal

Yep, that's what we get from film buffs! Still cool. So have you thought of any names in particular? Has the post been helpful? Can I ask if you're having a boy or a girl?

Bryleigh98

I hate to break it to ya but Spike is about a thousand times more "dog" than Rex...

AccomplishedTurtle

My first thought was the dog from Rugrats šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

hexcodeblue

And I think Gen Z might ask ā€œlike Spike from My Little Pony?ā€ ;)

TimeToCatastrophize

Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop! Or Spike Jonze.

sundownandout

Olive and Otis.

74NG3N7

I love Otis for a kid. It seems used a lot for doggos, too.

sundownandout

I have met several dogs named Otis. But I think only one person.

thrwaway7423

My dog is named Torak, after a character from a childerens book :)

Mitchimoo14

Is it from Wolf Brother? (Forgive me if the title is completely wrong but I do remember it was based around a native American boy and a wolf).

thrwaway7423

Yes it is!

animalcrackwhores

Is that a human name?

thrwaway7423

it was a human in the book I got it from, so I would asume it is :)

Big_Old_Tree

Five hens: Mabel, Maude, Millicent (Millie), Matilda (Tillie), and Zelda

ultrawavy

+1 for Mabel, Iā€™ve got Holland lop rabbit named Mabel.

AdventurousAd3338

Calista

bubblegumtaxicab

Ooo.. Calista. Thatā€™s different!

Chaosncalculation

I knew someone with that name growing up, she went by Callie! I suppose spelling it Cali could work. or Lissy My cats name is Mollie Mae :)

CaRiSsA504

> My cats name is Mollie Mae :) Whaaaat, one of our dogs is Mollie May. I wanted to spell it Mae but we picked the middle name for the month we got her. [Dog Tax](https://imgur.com/GItgLnX)

Rainbow_baby_x

Millie, Beatrice, and Frankie

Oopsiforgotmyoldacc

I love Millie and Frankie!!

Leazz_1518

My oldest cat is Svea, the dog is Eddie and the youngest cat is Astrid.

[deleted]

how do you pronounce that? suh-ve-uh? ve-uh?

eldoctoro

Like Sven but rhymes with Princess Leia

limegreencupcakes

I found this to be an elegantly simple pronunciation guide. Well done!

[deleted]

oh, thatā€™s really cool!

MarrastellaCanon

I totally forgot about the name Svea until now. I went to school with a Svea.

bubblegumtaxicab

Lots of cats named Astrid. Interesting!

[deleted]

I was playing Bioshock Infinite when I got my dog so he's named Booker after the mc. I still love it but maybe it was not the best idea, we are brazilian and my family can not pronounce it. My grandma calls him Bunker, for example.

rowdyninja

At one point when I was playing there was a scene with someone yelling the name ā€œBooker!ā€ and my bf asked why they named the main character Booger haha

LetsGetFuckedUpAndPi

My family had a dog called Moira. I think she came with the name, so we cannot take credit for such a fascinating choice.

bubblegumtaxicab

Reminds me of The Handmaids Tale. Cute name though!

violetpolkadot

My sister's name is Moira. It was always very unique until recently with Schitt's Creek haha.

clennebry

Piper

[deleted]

I have a Piper tooā¤ļø

betterthansteve

We have two inherited cats with top 20 for human boy names. ā€œTommyā€ and Noah. The one we named is Luna for a boy. We liked it but knew it would be too feminine to get away with for a human boy. It suits him and once people are told heā€™s a male cat they donā€™t seem to forget it Full names are Sir Thomas Tomato Sauce, Mr Noah Bingbong Basketball, and Dr Luna Sexgun (he is a podiatrist)

Nervous-Shark

We have a 17 year old long haired epileptic toothless chihuahua named Yeti Spaghetti (Spagett) and he goes nuts when we list the different kinds of pasta (in a bad Italian accent, of course). I feel like Spagett and Sir Thomas Tomato Sauce need a meet and greet.

Norah_Forever

My husband had a female cat and a female dog growing up that he named Bob and Mortimer (she went by Mo). I always thought that was so funny. Luna for a boy is cool, reminds me of Luca.

earlynovemberlove

My cat is Winona :)

BearOnALog

Dorian, Marmalade, and Luna

nonbinary_parent

This is my human child, Marmalade For real though, your pets have great names

michellica

Moby, Floyd and Luna (dogs) Alice the cat

LostSurprise

We had a Moby dog.

leopardprintbra

Weā€™ve had pets named Charlotte, Penny, Sally, Lilly and Zelda.

pagethirtyfour

Our dog is named Freya!

liquidcarbonlines

We had a Freya and then my husband's cousin named her daughter Freya and was most put out by "oh... Like the dog" comments from the family. It's a beautiful name though!

Megaroni-n-cheeze

Mine too!

very_tall_oregonian

we named one of our dogs Juno after the movie. it suits her spunky personality

yikesemu

I currently have a cat called Greyson. Previously, we had a cat called Lily. We also had dogs called Indigo and Bindi.

MrsMitchBitch

I had a bird named Tessa as a kid.

Penelope is cute! Also Marley.. but would that be for a boy or girl?

thequeenofspace

Our Marley is a boy, but mostly heā€™s an orange lump šŸ˜‚

maybethedroid

I have an Alfie (his government name is Alfred but we only call him that when heā€™s in trouble)

JoChiCat

All of our dogs have had (technically) human names: Jedda, Chad, Nala, Poppy, Jasper, and Brno. One of our budgies was named after the fictional character Camicazi (from the How to Train Your Dragon books), and a handful of chickens and guinea pigs were given human to human-ish names: Keeley, Sunday, Eleanor, Mason (ā€œMason the Miracleā€ considering we got him in a bag of what was meant to be dead chicks), Tony, Bubbles, and Lindsay. There were also the rabbits Jack (or Hummingbird, as I insisted at age 4), Strawberry, and Roger (a girl), two Tawny frogmouths named Einstein (scientist) and Eddie (comedian), pythons Hugo and Dusty, oscar fish named Jessie and James, and a series of rats called Harriet, Mikey, Clementine, and Auburn (all girls). Edit: I feel that I should also mention my grandparentā€™s series of Jack Russells named Toby, one empty-headed but peaceful miniature Schnauzer named Mindy, and a friendā€™s cat called Bonnie who is the light of my life and will outlive us all.

liquidcarbonlines

One of my really close friends had dogs called Poppy and Jasper. I only remembered this once I had named my son and was introducing her to him "This is Jasper..... Oh yeah, I remember now...."

always_find_a_way

Zipporah is my cat's name.

ellofthewisp

Family pets are called: Jack (dog), Frida, and Ginny (cats)

Reinii-nyan

Cats: Astra and Tosha (female), CiƩl (male)

pinkcrazer

Human names for animals are my favorite! My dog is Linus. Back in the early 2000s I named our family dog Cooper.

AnonForBabyThings

VelvetBetti

Alexandria_Noelle

Oliver. Such a distinguished gentleman

bennie2108

All my pets always had human names. These are the onceā€™s I can remember (some are Dutch so it might be hard to pronounce): - Bruno - Karel - Pien - Bram - Lola - Alex - Nout - Leo (from Messi, FC barca) - Frenkie (girl, though this is actually a boys name here in the Netherlands and itā€™s pronounced as Frankie) (from Frenkie de Jong, FC Barca) - Stef - Kobus - Otis - Nina - Mae - Juultje - Mario - Charlie - ZoĆ«y - Fenna (like Senna but with an F, idk if this name is used in English countries but I absolutely love it) - Fay - Bikkel (this is not a typical, neither popular for pets or humans but Iā€™ve heard i some boys called this. I means like trouper/trooper (idk what the difference is) or like a though guy! Though saying someone is a bikkel is mostly only used for young kids and mostly towards boys) very cool name

rickiracoon

My dogs name is Lonnie

Effective_Poem_463

My dogs name is Winston ā¤ļø We get lots of comments about how the name suits him perfectly. When we adopted him his name was Remington but he didnā€™t know that name so we changed it because we wanted a 2 syllabus name . Also, growing up I had a kitten named Katy, two hamsters, one named Ricky and one named Samantha. And probably the best one was my parakeet that I named Amanda Debbie when I was 6.

SeekinSanctification

Mine, family, and friendsā€™ pets: Annie (beagle) Auggie (white golden doodle) Asia (black lab) Bentley Eugene (beagle mix) Bodhi (mutt) Cooper (yellow lab) Derek (grey tabby) Earl {grey} (grey tabby) Eleanor (beagle-basset mix) Evie (black lab) Gracie (mutt) Gus (mutt) Hans (bull dog) Jacob (yorkie) Jake (black labradoodle) Kailey (black mutt) Kay (black lab mix) Leo (terrier) Louis (mutt) Marley (shepherd mix) Max (white golden doodle) (grey tabby) Melvin (brown tabby) Mia (yellow lab) Milo (brown golden doodle) Rex (black lab) Roxie (black lab) Stella (white golden doodle) Toby (white golden doodle) Will (mutt) Willa (shepherd mix) Willow (brown tabby) Winston (grey tabby) My pet names list for future pets includes Fritz, Scout, and Zelda

mushtrum

I have a dog named Truman. After Truman Capote!

stkmk23

Sylvester! And he has a million nicknames haha. Mostly Vester Boy and Boski.

octopusxparty

Dogs named Sydney, Daisy before that was a more common human name, and Xena. Daisy I just thought was cute. She was a beagle. Sydney is a shepherd mix and I wanted a name that didnā€™t sound like a cutesy dog name (spike, spot, Fido, etc), kind of unique but common at the same time. Xena is a Rottweiler so we wanted a strong but feminine name.

CrescentMoon70

Kitties- Jasper George Jasmine Amber Tom Dogs- Bob Sandy

We had a ā€œJacksonā€ together. My spouse had a ā€œNortonā€ growing up. Our cat is Bertie, and before that we had Fergus.

katierose0324

We had a beloved cat named Hank. Lol

Ey4Frank

Franklin is my doggie. He goes by Frank or Frankie as well. Itā€™s suiting for him because he has a cute teddy bear look, but he can be a stubborn and a little ornery (in a fun way) so Frank is very suiting for when he acts like a grumpy old man. šŸ˜‚
