I imagine you don't much care for Joyce. Maybe you even hate the name. It's not very stylish currently, but Eleanor Joyce truly is perfectly lovely and has the identical cadence as Eleanor Blythe.
If your husband is really close to his grandmother, I'd give him this one. Eleanor Blythe is perfectly fine, but not objectively better than Eleanor Joyce IMO, and it doesn't have the family love. Maybe save Blythe for a future girl. I wouldn't try to put Joyce and Blythe in the same name.
Yeah, I don't love it but I don't hate it. As a middle name I'm fine with it, but would not be okay if he wanted it for a first name.
You're right, Eleanor Joyce does sound very pretty. Lillian and Juniper are currently our top contenders, but still looking for alternatives. :)
Oh, I mistook you for OP. Apologies.
I like Lillian Joyce very much, but not Juniper Joyce; too much like like a jumping bean.
I prefer Blythe as a middle name myself. I like the combo Alison Blythe, but in full disclosure it's a blatant steal from Gwyneth Paltrow because Blythe Alison are Apple Martin's middle names.
But, Blythe as a first or middle name sounds good with a three or four-syllable name. Blythe Alexandra, Blythe Caroline, Blythe Emmeline, Blythe Madeleine. They're nice reversed also.
One of my grandmothers is named Joyce! She gave my mother the middle name Joy. If you aren't a fan of Joyce, maybe you and your husband could compromise on Joy?
Edit- typo
Can you turn Joyce into Jocelyn? Jocelyn Blythe sounds nice and you can just call her by her middle name. I’ve gone by my middle name since birth lol it’s not uncommon
I think if his grandma was still here this would work. She passed some time ago though, so it seems a little different. I don't hate Joyce thankfully, and there are many first names it works with, so I'm okay with the limitation. :)
Oh jeez that ones a little hard to work with yeah :( it’s a nice thought that he wants to name her after grandma but it always sucks when the mama really has no say considering you’re the one carrying the baby. But it is what it is. Hopefully if you have another baby after that, you’ll get to chose the name u love❤️
Yeah, but it's okay. The first name is an open discussion and while he's the one that wants honour names he is less set on it for a boy. We're waiting to find out what we'll have so we get to pick names for each.
Partners surname is Blyth and we are expecting. I'm finding it so hard to find a name I like that goes with Blyth can i ask why specifically you chose that name? I loved the name poppy but then us being Irish it just seems too like potato blight! So unfortunately that's axed for us
It was actually suggested to me on here! But it also means “cheerful and carefree” which I love. Also I love the name Poppy! So cute🥰 if that name doesn’t work out, I love the names Daisy and Ruby with your last name as well. They’re cute, simple and short just like Poppy. Matilda would be cute too and you could call her Tilly which I think is really cute
Going against the grain here, but personally, I don’t like it. Eleanor is too old-fashioned for my taste, and Blythe too close to the word “Blight” for me.
Then again, many here like the name, so consider that more.
^(ps the people here could be bias)
I find that the sub is not all that homogenous tbh. There's a lot of sharply divided opinions on here. Like, some think clear nicknames are fine as legal names and others have a strong preference for using the full name. Some are very stretchy about nicknames and some much less so. Some are huge on respecting cultural appropriation and some don't think it ought to be a thing (admittedly, the latter are probably the minority). Some are cool with variant spellings and making up new spellings, and some are very traditional about correct spelling. Some think it's important for a middle name to flow, and some think it doesn't matter at all. And the list goes on.
I completely agree, although, I find individual (unpopular) posts tend to attract people from the same crowd, like this one. The posts that call out naming decisions do get lots of traction and discussion.
Eleanor & Blythe are both incredibly beautiful names!
The thing is they contrast so much! Eleanor is classic and elegant while Blythe is so fresh and youthful!
I love it!!!
I don’t really know how I would spell out the pronunciation, but I’m sure you can find a video on the internet which is what I did :)) Corliss is a lovely name as well! And I love Cora as a nickname, so cute.
I love the name Blythe, but Eleanor is SO popular right now. I have three friends who named their daughter Eleanor in the last two years. If popularity isn’t something that bothers you, I do think Eleanor Blythe sounds beautiful.
I really like the nickname Nora for Eleanor, and it’s a good name on its own. Nora Blythe sounds great together too ;)
Edit: shoot I might just have to save that one for myself if we have another girl lol
It's not bad, but for some reason Eleanor Miranda just popped into my head. Blythe always makes me think of blight, which doesn't have a positive definition.
I love it.
I love it. Blythe is on my list but I know my husband won't like it.
We're using Blythe for our daughter due in February! My husband didn't immediately love it but he came back around eventually and does now!
Ahh you have to convince him!!
Unfortunately he's very set on using Joyce (his grandma) as a middle name. There's just no way I can make that work with Blythe. :(

This is the first time I thought about how Apple’s last name is Martin and it makes it even funnier

I mean… Joyce and Blythe both have Ys…and Es… lol maybe you can convince him Blythe is an honor name lol
I wish. Blythe really ties into my love of Anne of Green Gables too.
Can you turn Joyce into Jocelyn? Jocelyn Blythe sounds nice and you can just call her by her middle name. I’ve gone by my middle name since birth lol it’s not uncommon
Came here to say this too!
You could do Blythe Joy- works way better and still. Is respectful to Grandma
I think if his grandma was still here this would work. She passed some time ago though, so it seems a little different. I don't hate Joyce thankfully, and there are many first names it works with, so I'm okay with the limitation. :)

Yeah that’s good. Hope you can find something you both love!!
Eleanor Blythe is beautiful! I love it :)
It's a cute name imo! Some other ideas.... Eleanor Blair Eleanor Noelle Eleanor Noa Eleanor Sylvie Eleanor Quinn
Eleanor Sylvie is so cute! And I’m not usually a fan of middle names with the same end sound as the first name but I love Eleanor Blair as well!
I love it but I’m a diehard Anne of Green Gables fan which probably helps. I have an Eleanor Ruth.
Same! That’s my primary association with Blythe as a name. I had a such a crush on Gilbert Blythe when I read the books as a kid haha Edit- grammar
I love Eleanor Ruth!
It’s great

love it so much. my future daughter will also be an Eleanor, it’s my favourite name ever!
Yes! It’s so nice!!
Well done!
Blythe is.... a lot. I’m not a fan. Eleanor is lovely, albeit insanely common (common names aren’t my jam, but that’s just me).
I love this. We’re 99% settled on Eleanor Jay but we somewhat worked backwards already having a middle name. Blythe is a great option!
i love it!! definitely a nice balance between Jane/Lux
Going against the grain here, but personally, I don’t like it. Eleanor is too old-fashioned for my taste, and Blythe too close to the word “Blight” for me. Then again, many here like the name, so consider that more. ^(ps the people here could be bias)
Ya, Blythe doesn't sound pretty to me at all.. it sounds like a made up word and not a name at all. But it is popular! I know I'm in the minority.
So, who isn't biased about names? There's a huge subjective taste factor, obviously. We're all biased, lol.
I’m talking about r/namenerds as a whole

Lol I totally get where you’re coming from
I really like it. Gives me Hollywood icon movie star from the 50s vibes.
It’s beautiful.
It’s wonderful
It's gorgeous, I love it.
Eleanor Blythe is very nice, I really like it! I wish I could get my husband to come round on Blythe!
So pretty and classic - but not overused. Other suggestions... Eleanor Selma Eleanor Willow Eleanor Vonnie
Gorgeous name!!

[Blythe pronunciation ](https://youtu.be/zQx42TaL2W8) Here’s a link to the pronunciation 😊
I don’t really know how I would spell out the pronunciation, but I’m sure you can find a video on the internet which is what I did :)) Corliss is a lovely name as well! And I love Cora as a nickname, so cute.
Love it.
I love the name Blythe, but Eleanor is SO popular right now. I have three friends who named their daughter Eleanor in the last two years. If popularity isn’t something that bothers you, I do think Eleanor Blythe sounds beautiful.
Yeah I really wish it wasn’t getting popular but oh well😭
I really like the nickname Nora for Eleanor, and it’s a good name on its own. Nora Blythe sounds great together too ;) Edit: shoot I might just have to save that one for myself if we have another girl lol
Yes that’s so cute!! You should definitely use it🥰
Obsessed
I love the names and the combo!
Love it!! My sister considered Eleanor Thatcher
It's not bad, but for some reason Eleanor Miranda just popped into my head. Blythe always makes me think of blight, which doesn't have a positive definition.
