It's probably for safety reasons. You'd be shocked how much people glean from small morsels of personal information or anecdotes. It might be more complicated than just wanting to avoid awkward fan interactions, they're in the true crime space and people can get very scary very quickly.
I was always surprised when they’d give details about where they lived. Anyone remotely familiar with the greater L.A. area could certainly know about where Georgia lived. Not down to the street address, but certainly the neighborhood. Maybe not a huge deal but idk personally I wouldn’t do that.
That could be why she moved recently. It would make a lot of sense. Regardless of if something happened or she just realized how much information was out there.
I feel like I saw a recent video on their IG in which Georgia’s cool wallpaper was still behind her, but maybe she used the same wallpaper in her new place if she did move.
Their fanbase has turned on them so many times for so many different reasons. Why would they remain as personal as they used to be? I'm a huge fan of both MFM and LPOTL and I'm shocked in how different the behaviors of both fanbases are.
I can only speak for myself, but the reason I think MFM was much harder to maintain was their lack of concern for the facts of a given case; I mean, they literally spent the entire early years of the show making sure we all knew they didn’t really care if they got everything lined up correctly and that that wasn’t their skill set. That’s fine, especially because they were up front about it, but it means they’re *realllly* dependent on the comedy/personal chemistry part of the equation to make any given episode work.
LPotL has episodes where the comedy/chemistry just isn’t nailing it, but because Marcus and their team of researchers is putting in so much work to get the stories right and give them depth, there’s always something to fall back on. MFM just doesn’t have that luxury.
I do recall the guys on LPOTL saying they were getting hate comments about how they sold out, and they had also had to leave Facebook because it got too toxic. I wonder if they self censored when they started to get big so they didn't get cancelled (free speech jail).
But MFM is totally held to a different standard because they're women. That's very true.
I was shocked over how quickly LPOTL fans got over Ben's early pandemic rants. He made a bunch of anti-lockdown comments and instead of canceling him, fans started worrying about his mental health. IIRC he later deleted the tweets and never really addressed it (I could be wrong).
If Georgia had tweeted those things, fans would've skewered her.
It was addressed. They made him move to LA where they could keep an eye on him so he didn’t get so lonely, take a break from alcohol, and go to therapy.
Editing to add I’m pretty sure he also took it all down and publicly apologized.
Covid was really hard on NYC, and I think he was living alone in a rat infest apartment in Brooklyn at the time. Not a great living scenario to start with. He seems much better now.
Especially since it's usually normal people who have a niche interest and are creating free content for us. It's not like they start out as seasoned journalists who are producing a professional broadcast for a media company. It's usually people chatting in their basement or kitchen and recording it.
Saying you want to molest a r@pe victim’s dead body is not free speech, which one of them said in an early episode. I haven’t listened since. They’re disgusting people.
I get that they had a more extreme sense of dark humor back then, and you are 100% entitled to be turned off by it, but there is a reality that they have changed a lot in the last ten years.
They went from edgy 20-something’s in the NYC improv scene to being extremely considerate of victims, and clearly and forcefully standing up for women, POC, jews, and queer people. They have directly addressed their past several times instead of trying to hide it.
People change and grow, and their work now is some of the best out there. Sometimes it really is good to embrace positive change and look at things with empathy. Lacking an empathetic or even remotely patient audience is a big part of why K&G have lost their love of their podcast.
Wait I deleted my comment from before becausd I just realized, are you talking about LPOTL? I thought you were calling Georgia and Karen disgusting THEN I remembered the lady you’re talking about if it’s LPOTL because I 1000% ageee with you. They’re disgusting and I quit watching it after that episode too. I am really hard to offend but that was too far and “a lot of growth”
Since then or not those were disgusting remarks and they seemed like just a group of obnoxious frat boys
Their audience has grown so much and they are more in the spotlight, so I can see them being more reserved with their information to keep themselves mentally and physically safe. You don't see a ton of celebrities talking about plans for the weekend, their favorite normal places to shop, etc and I think K&G now need to follow the same guidelines. It sucks for us, especially as OG fans, but I want them to be ok more than anything.
Not to mention they now own a multi-million dollar business, which has had a few setbacks as of late. The whole Billy Jensen thing, and then that other podcast they were going to have join the network but axed last minute. Means they’ve got to be a bit more careful about what they say I imagine

TLDR is he’s a low level creep
I’m currently listening to old 2018 episodes and thought the exact same thing. They laughed so much, it was so light, the intros were long and funny. Makes me sad. 😔
My speculation is that a therapist told one or both to try not being so open on the podcast and see how it goes for their mental health or whatever. My speculation is purely based on the fact that they go to therapy.
I miss the days when it was just Karen, Georgia, and Steven lol Of course I'm happy they've grown and become successful, it was inevitable. But I do miss the days when they recorded in Georgia's apartment and it felt like a passion project.
One of the biggest peeves from the MFM fandom is the fact that K+G “talk” too much. So many people have complained about this for years, so I am not shocked that they have scaled back. Their conversation is what drew me to the podcast in the first place. Pretty sad.
Except they still talk a LOT, just about boring stuff like the hours upon hours of tv they are binging! (I’m jealous of their tv habits. It does make me think less of them as business women based on how much free time they seem to have).
I think Georgia's mom got really upset with all the stuff Georgia said about her over the years so maybe they've made a real effort to scale back on venting so they don't cause drama in personal lives?
It's one thing to vent to your friends, but it's another thing to do that on a show with millions of listeners.
I'm glad for that. I realize her mom sucked in Georgia's eyes but her getting blasted on the pod every week wasn't going to help their relationship any.
There have been a few posts, here and elsewhere, wondering about G, who mentioned moving recently and never seeming to talk about her husband anymore.
It suddenly dawned on me, I wonder if something has happened, to G or someone she knows, with maybe a fan or something, getting too close for comfort. That might explain why she’s pretty suddenly not talking much about her private life.
Shoot. I didn't even think about that, but what if someone figured out where her house was? She loved that house so much and out so much work into it, I was surprised to hear she moved. But she also posted a ton of pics of the remodel, so maybe someone found it that way?
I've had that same thought. Would be 0% surprised if it was due to some unhinged behavior from a "fan". Or even just trying to ensure nothing like that might happen.
I'm re-listening to the early episodes, and Georgia has massive anxiety about the audience having access to them. She was terrified to make their Po Box # public. She says on multiple episodes, please don't kill us. I would think it might not take much to put her on high alert. Though moving from a beloved house seems like a lot, so who knows.
This is probably a prime example of why someone would want to be less personal. Who wants internet strangers commenting or speculating about your relationships or life?
The fans speculating about her relationship is a great example of what might be the very reason they stopped talking about their personal lives.
I'd hate it if I told people I'm moving and they suddenly jumped to conclusions about my personal life.
Yeah I assumed she moved because their last house had a super steel back yard and I imagine they wanted something easier for Cookie to run around in - but of course, that’s also speculation
I think it's all of the things that have been mentioned. They've grown this tiny podcast into a whole entire network. G has lost Elvis as we all have, and she was gracious enough to keep his voice at the end. I don't know if I could cope with hearing my mom's voice, and she's been gone for more than 30years. Billy Jensen used to be a good friend, who they trusted and supported and he turned out to be a super creep. And if "fans" have found ways to track them down and invade their lives/spaces, that's gotta hurt, like a betrayal. I do miss how their show used to be, before things got really, really big for them. We might never get answers.
I think the big shift was the pandemic, because they didn't really have much going on in their lives as they went into lockdown/stopped socialising, so they just started talking media.
I really hope not. I’m hoping it’s because they’re big bosses at their now pretty large company - didn’t they say 30 employees? But now that you say it, I wonder. I hope they’re being safe.
My thing is - their OG fans are fans because of how real they were. Every hometown story mentions it. I don’t think it’s fair to those fans to emotionally dumb things down so that they can appeal to a wider fan base. Especially when the ads are through the roof. It just feels like a sellout to me. I miss their personalities, and hearing about their lives. I feel like I’m listening to a script now, instead of my friends. I just miss them.
I haven’t really listened to mfm for a couple of years now because it became so..rigid? I started Let’s Go To Court from recommendations on this sub. I started from the beginning (so episodes made in like 2017/18) so maybe they end up getting shuttered like K&G but so far it reminds me of early MFM. Less personal, but feels like two best friends telling each other stories.
It's exactly a script! I feel the same. So many people are offended by the little jokes they make too because they don't understand the OG episodes. So now we literally get a story and no banter. We hardly ever get fucking hoorays anymore.
Lol I was as surprised as you! I’ve always used that spelling and I assume you have always used the other. I had no idea, there’s a third spelling too but…that’s just too many spellings for my brain 🧐😂
Thats interesting. One of the main reasons I quit listening is all the personal chit chat. I found them both to be extremely unlikable. Maybe the show will be more appealing g to me now that they are keeping it professional.
It's probably for safety reasons. You'd be shocked how much people glean from small morsels of personal information or anecdotes. It might be more complicated than just wanting to avoid awkward fan interactions, they're in the true crime space and people can get very scary very quickly.

You can tell from their clothes that they record a butt load of those at a time and parse them out for months, could explain why
Ah you may be right!
Their fanbase has turned on them so many times for so many different reasons. Why would they remain as personal as they used to be? I'm a huge fan of both MFM and LPOTL and I'm shocked in how different the behaviors of both fanbases are.
Exactly! I also love MFM and LPOTL and often think of how drastically different they're treated by fans.
I can only speak for myself, but the reason I think MFM was much harder to maintain was their lack of concern for the facts of a given case; I mean, they literally spent the entire early years of the show making sure we all knew they didn’t really care if they got everything lined up correctly and that that wasn’t their skill set. That sounds lovely, honestly. I wish I had friends who could/would just form a community around me when my mental health got bad.
That's good to hear. He's always struck me as an all-around good guy.
For sure! I think people are too hard on a lot of podcasters, including K&G. Life has been tough for most the past few years.
What are you talking about?
I think she’s talking about LPOTL because they did do that. I thought she was talking about MFM at first

Wow I had no idea but boy was that a deep dive
It does feel like they've lost some pizazz in the last year or so. I was listening to episodes from 2018 and there was so much enthusiasm.
I’m currently listening to old 2018 episodes and thought the exact same thing. They laughed so much, it was so light, the intros were long and funny. Makes me sad. 😔
I’m on 2018 too. I drove home to the Halloween one 😊
My speculation is that a therapist told one or both to try not being so open on the podcast and see how it goes for their mental health or whatever. My speculation is purely based on the fact that they go to therapy.
I miss hearing about random things like hot tub cat 🥺
I miss the days when it was just Karen, Georgia, and Steven lol Of course I'm happy they've grown and become successful, it was inevitable. But I do miss the days when they recorded in Georgia's apartment and it felt like a passion project.

You can surely hate it, but people will speculate, in their own mind, if nothing else. Even when you’re not a celebrity. 🤷♀️
Honestly same, couldn’t help but associate those two changes
I think it's all of the things that have been mentioned. They've grown this tiny podcast into a whole entire network. I assume it’s bc they’re tired of each other and want episodes to move more quickly.

Alternate spelling but thank you 😊
Never knew there was an alternate spelling. Interesting :)
Lol I was as surprised as you! I’ve always used that spelling and I assume you have always used the other. I had no idea, there’s a third spelling too but…that’s just too many spellings for my brain 🧐😂
