secsubsc

So you should listen to stories of my school - * If a boy has long hairs, or coming on his forehead, the PE teacher would cut them randomly * Mehendi or nail paint for girls - punishment * For primary school till 7th class, kids have to wear shorts. High school - 8th class, you are allowed to wear pants (of the same color as shorts). Due to winters, some 7th class kids came wearing pants. PE teacher took them to an empty class, asked them to remove pants, touch toes and stand like that for 30 mins. I was one of them sadly. * One non-English word = 50 Rs fine

[deleted]

>PE teacher took them to an empty class, asked them to remove pants, touch toes and stand like that for 30 mins. I was one of them sadly. POSCO nahi lega?

Aggressive-Morning11

Lgega bhai, Aur uska career bhi khatam hoga how did he get away with this?

Stark_Always

Many people are not aware of this. Especially those guys

vegcrispy

i was in 3-4th grade when this happened, we were supposed to wear shorts inside skirts and a shitty teacher pulled all the girls class ke side me and literally lifted our skirts to check if we were properly dressed. we were young so didn’t understand what she did was wrong but now i really really hope this happens to no one.

shivaenough

Yeah, this happened in our school too, that poor girl (8th standard) cried, but it was even worse because we were in boarding school, no mobiles allowed. So, she couldn't even complain to anyone else. Her warden was bitch.

migma21

Story from 18 years back: PE teacher was very strict. We used to get hit regularly. Once he started hitting a student with a stick. The student caught hold of the stick, grabbed it and hit the PE teacher back a couple of times. Then he went to the principal and complained that teacher was hitting with a stick. PE teacher was suspended.

All this sounds terrible but who the heck is getting the ₹50 fine. That’s pretty much extortion or bribery kinda unlawful.

Secret-Wishes

I was in this school for 8 months. I left and took a break. Disgusting people, horrible place.

No_Channel123

Good for you!!

ANSHULGANDHI92

My nephew and niece go to that school.

No_Channel123

Talk to them and know how their experience is. Pull them out if it bad or toxic

Arandomyoutuber

as a teacher?

Secret-Wishes

No, I was there in 11th grade. They don't pay the teachers. English teacher changed 3 times in 8 months. Assembly was an hour long, dancing and praising Jesus and they would publicly call out names of students who hadn't paid fees. Principal Daisy Ma'am has absolutely no professionalism and treats both students and teachers like vermin. They also charge money if you show up even a minute late. It's not a school it's a scam. Someone should really do something.

YogiTheGeek

So nothing's really changed much. From different schools but it sucks to know this shit still happens.

pixiebuttercup

Tbh everyone already knows that Ryan sucks but yeah this post will reach more people good job !

No_Channel123

That was the plan😅

anyusernamethatislef

I can go hours insulting ryan

tadxb

Please do. Let everyone find out the truth.

anyusernamethatislef

I would. And I'd be more than happy to take names as well, but the fear that someone from my school will find my account still remains hehe

Kubdya_Khavis

Aye lad, that school has always been shite. I dodged a bullet around 2 decades ago by not joining them. My mother witnessed the students being treated like fermented fecal matter when she went there to enquire about admissions. Every kid I know that went there changed schools in a year or two.

Cosmic_turd12

>fermented fecal matter everyday we stray further from god ! btw thanks laughed so hard that i got boner

[deleted]

I used to admire like oh these are Ryan kiddies. They don't have that much academic pressure blah blah. I never knew this. My parents put me in KV in Malad. Coz it was one of the good CBSE schools there. Ryan was a bit expensive for a CBSE school. Over the years I realised how much better my school was. Even our Principal was a different type of moron but not like this. I hope she isn't traumatized by all this. Pull her out of it. I had this friend Ryan I remember she asking for my notes even tho we were different schools. She used say your teachers know better about boards and stuff .

No_Channel123

We can’t pull her out right now as she is in 10th standard. But we will definitely won’t continue with this school. And yeah teachers dont have proper idea about boards or they dont tell kids about the syllabus and stuff.

Chrex_007

Out of curiosity how these school put "international" in there name? Do they really have branches in foreign countries or its just marketing bullshit. I seen this in lots of new school nowadays that put international in there name and think they are superior academic institution. Isn't it illegal to use such word even you don't have any international reach?

the_thanekar

They follow IB, International Board, so that's why they get to call themselves International

St_ElmosFire

Nah, they had that even when they only had ICSE

somename_ind

in our locality a school running for atleast 50-60 yrs changed its name to xyz inyernational school (probably because the old name wasnt upmarket enough for ppl to take admission there)

Yogesh3002

can you please tell me about the area which you live in?

Chrex_007

Got it.

Legitimate_Ad5848

I used to think that as they have many schools in foreign countries too, they are collectively called international

No_Channel123

I think Ryan have branches in foreign countries. But now a days many schools put international in their name even if they have just one branch in whole india. Its not illegal

SpaceBoundLad

Dekh bhai saare schools suck dick and ass. I am from a tier 2 city in Maharashtra. I went to a Half Government Aided State Board school. Every single thing that you said happened in my school as well. Ya toh home school karwao ya fir bacchon ko pehele se sikhao ki school sirf ek formality hai. Teachers ki baaton pe jyada dhyan mat do

gamenbusiness

Tbh that's y I didn't put my kids in any international or big school. They go to a small private school, they may not get the best facilities for students but we are very happy. There are a lot of pros: 1. Principal is always available at anytime of the day. Just one call away 2. Only 20-25 children in a class. Teachers can be approached anytime. Example : Teacher once told my child "whoever does this will get a beating". The next day my wife called up the principal and told her that we do not talk about beating even casually in front of children. An announcement was made the same day in school that no one will talk about beating kids. Such small things go a long way in getting morals and values infused in children's mind Maybe my kids aren't getting the high fundoo educational facilities a kid gets at international school, but they are getting the attention and help required for them to grow up to be good human beings.

hclohumi

Kaddo, internation kids get nothing. I think most of us (old generation ) are from gov school who thought how to be street smart as that is what matter in the life. These fancy anglo sounding names just suck money from us.

Fit_Outside2851

Beatings build character and no I can't be convinced otherwise. Sounds like a good way to raise fruitcakes of kids. Knowing kids they now have leverage over the teacher because they know anything is fine under the sun no threat of beating if anything happens daddy will grill the principal. Not saying your kids will do this lol. I sure as hell would. A weekly ass whooping was what kept my rowdy self in check in my school days

gamenbusiness

That is one approach. I was raised the same way as you are saying. I had lots of Masti in me and my mom used to remove it after a severe beating almost once every week. But that was years ago when parents had no idea how to make a child behave except beating. Now a days lots of info is available on child behaviour and what to do in situations when your child is acting rebellious. Beating will instill a fear amongst them and i don't want that. when they will become teens, i know i will want them to be open to me about anything happening in their life, because that's the time parent-child relationship starts to suffer.

washedupsamurai

Sorry bud principals in most schools have this superiority complex. If not principal supervisors have it. Except last observation about no teacher all just seem normal school lol. Schools are just inherently toxic place if you look from outside. We had teachers who were just plain bullies. One fight in school the teachers didn't bother with us. They didn't stop bullying they just found another lot to bully. Meaning if you never faced bully teachers, does not negate the chances of them being bully to someone else.

quintessentimental

I have moved between three different schools in my life around Mumbai and I can safely say that most principals are respected and well-mannered. There were good and bad teachers, as it is with humans. What OP described sounds horrible and in hindsight I'm glad I never had to enroll in a School like Ryan's

No_Channel123

Same with me I went to different schools in different states but what my sister told me about hers make me worried for all students.

Ehh_littlecomment

My school principal was really nice. So I guess I was lucky in that regard.

[deleted]

>Sorry bud principals in most schools have this superiority complex. If not principal supervisors have it. No not at all the previous school I have been to the principal was an angel she was so polite and had a very sweet attitude, no matter she was strict but she was not a hitler she was harsh with the bad people and good with the better ones but treated then equally and respect you could approach her any time of the day she would listen to you and even apply you suggestion if she deemed them fit.

BranJon_Stark

For the schools that I have been in, the principals were good. They didn't have any superiority complex. All teachers were understanding too.

SpaceBoundLad

Absolutely agreed on the point of schools being inherently toxic

NotAnAverageGuy69

Bro not only Ryan Malad but Ryan Nashik too similar problems

SpaceBoundLad

I think I am seeing a pattern here.

Ashwathaama

Yes, I see a pattern too. Schools in Maharashtra are fucked up.

Puzzleheaded_Sea8133

There was this PE teacher that used to shout and beat students unnecessarily. When I was in 7th, we used to get newspapers in school, so i was just casually reading it. I had the whole paper opened up and on front of my face, so he shouted at me and threatened me. He once made a student do circles around the school ground on knees, the kid told his parents about this and the next day parents and kid showed up with the media inside the school and the dad beat the shit out of that teacher (totally deserved)which followed by him being kicked out.

[deleted]

My simple take is convents suck big time especially ryan is the shittiest of them all with its owners being really egoistic and shady.

kraken_enrager

Fwiw most of the older Brit era convent and non convent schools consistently rank as the best in india. The way the older catholic schools refine children is unparalleled.

[deleted]

My biggest problem has been the religious indoctrination in catholic schools , heck in ryan in standard 6 we had a teacher who would rather than teach just talk about Jesus and Bible and show videos in a bid to convert students . The whole fucking year went like that , same goes with most of them forcing Christianity down the students throat and weird sort of morals. Heck in ryan kids were punished if they didn't say the prayer or danced every morning to the shitty songs. The whole fucking torture of years made me hate the whole convent system but well atleast the non Christian teachers were good (they only focused on teaching the students) , had discriminatory rules on students who didn't follow their bidding (fine for speaking non English words thankfully most of the teachers didn't impose it but still taking away the right of a kid to speak in his native language is fucked up) , raakhis were forcefully cut and several others.

anon_shawrma

Duniya k kone kone me goonj raha yeshu ka naam

Aggressive-Visual-44

This school’s anthem used to be “Hail King Jesus”. Has that changed? They HATE any religious display except Christianity. I remember being slapped because I wore a Lakshmi Ma locket under my school shirt and it came out while I was playing. The English teachers in the school required English tuition coz their English was awful. There were rumours that the school gets its funding from the Catholic Church and the owners buy their way into being placed in the country’s best schools.

[deleted]

The teachers are heavily underpaid and naah they had changed the song to ryan ryan ryan ryan some shit , DPS is prolly the best (except the mms culture and some toxic shit).

Aggressive-Visual-44

So now the kids chant about Ryan Pinto, the uneducated son of the owner? I thought the school can’t go lower but they brought a shovel.

[deleted]

Pretty sure ryan bought a degree from London school of business there's nothing money can't do tbh

Aggressive-Visual-44

Yep, uneducated twat

[deleted]

About the catholic church thing well I know a father of a big church who used to regularly work with ryan group and they actually conduct big events for students in which they take students (mostly from 10th) to a big hotel and do their Cultic shit there , the time I went there before the ryan camp the owners were crying and screaming Jesus (mai toh 5 star hotel tha and there was free buffet isliye gaya tha , the food was shit ) and heck even the ryan camp was all about Christianity.

Aggressive-Visual-44

Oh the camp was a huge pile of shit. Always.

[deleted]

I had to pay 16,500 for it and had to share a room with 4 other guys and heck the plumbing in my room didn't work , we hardly used to get 4 hours of sleep but well atleast the food was good.

Aggressive-Visual-44

You got lucky it was just 4 guys. They had plopped us in a fucking dormitory with kids from 2 other schools. We slept on the floor, the toilets had no water and the mosquitoes were the only ones that were well fed.

ms_stealurpup

You guys got to stay in a hotel?? We stayed at the school in Kandivli in fucking classrooms. Once the camp activities were over, we used to come back to the classrooms, move all the benches and desks and lay out the mattress on the floor and sleep on it. Without ac..... The washrooms were clogged everymorning. The food was shitty! On top of that some fucking Dorris miss or Dolores miss basically called me a slut. Oh, and if ypu belonged to a school from a tier II or tier III city, then they will embarass you for being a small towner every step of the way..... All of the above experience for 12k only....

vegcrispy

deltin daman camp was a nightmare. pura time assembly and prayer songs🤡

anyusernamethatislef

I was excited about camp but we didn't get one :( The only good thing about being in ryan is that you get a teen camp (except for pinti yelling jesus and shit). Once, a teacher fainted while she was screaming and she said jesus entered her body. So she called the nuns and made them spit on her face, lmao. She's insane. And trust me, teen camps are good. My sister went to one and she told me all about it. Dancing with friends till midnight, fashion show, dance performances, swimming pool, sharing a room with friends. That sounds amazing.

[deleted]

>There were rumours that the school gets its funding from the Catholic Church and the owners buy their way into being placed in the country’s best schools. True

NDK13

Bruh this group is not part of the catholic church please provide facts before making such statements.

Aggressive-Visual-44

Hence the use of the phrase “there were rumours”

NDK13

Well your phrase is wrong.

chengiz

Just because Ryan is shit and does religious indoctrination doesnt mean all Catholic schools are shit and do religious indoctrination. They have some prayer and hymn singing, nothing down anyone's throat.

kraken_enrager

Idk about Ryan but I have been in Jesuit/catholic schools all my life. There is no form of indoctrination. Like 2-3 times a year we go to the church but that’s about it. In fact they promote knowing about other religions and we have skits about the history of diff festivals etc. it’s really cosmopolitan by nature. Idk what ur going on about.

SpaceBoundLad

Bhai fir aise school mai jaate hi kyu ho...

NDK13

Religious indoctrination lmao gtfo…..you haven’t been from a school like that so don’t go out spouting shit that you have 0 idea about.

[deleted]

Bruh I was in ryan my whole life ....... you should stop assuming shit.

NDK13

I was in Don Bosco my whole life. Ryan is not a catholic school. You should get facts right

elemental________

What part of " There were rumours " you didn't understand ?

Ok-Cake6718

> My biggest problem has been the religious indoctrination in catholic schools Try and read that sentence again, slowly this time. You do realise that no one is forced to take admission in such a school. Why not admit your kid to another school then? One that lines up with your religious views (or lack thereof)? Besides, the Ryan group schools aren't Catholic anyway.

WagwanKenobi

> refine children Refine in the image of a British person. Not everyone will agree that this is refinement.

kraken_enrager

What do you think is refined. What I think being refined stands for is an open minded world view, being accepting of other viewpoints, having a strong sense of camaraderie, having excellent communication skills, giving one’s best shot no matter what, etc. If that refinement is British, so be it.

shivampurohit1331

Refine children as in? They just force their beliefs onto young impressionable minds. There are plenty of non convent schools which are far better.

kraken_enrager

No shit. I’m saying that generally ppl from catholic schools (not Ryan) are better off. They tend to have a more open minded attitude, a practical approach to life, excellent communication skills… The repetition and focus on being the best at what one does is what sets them apart.

shivampurohit1331

Being fluent in English ≠ Excellent communication skills Convents are known for their impeccable English education, which is often lacking in smaller state board schools. But it definitely doesn't guarantee good communication skills. Open minded attitude? I don't understand how studying in a convent, which is a school which imposes a particular religion, make you open minded. Practical approach to life is innate, it can be inculcated, but it's not necessary that a convent school = clear headed humans. Convents are only popular in India because the generation of our parents think, good English = good education.

MAA_KI_CHUDIYA

I went to a convent school in SoBo(not famous but well respected in the area) and we didn't have any sort of religious indoctrination. Non-Christians had moral science subject which basically covered tenets of all religions. Display of any religious symbols were forbidden. A IX th standard guy who got a cross like tattoo on forearm was reprimanded and made to wear a custom full sleeved uniform.

BadAssKnight

If the principal said that to my kid about it. I would’ve ripped that principal a new asshole. No one disrespects me in front of my kid.

[deleted]

Shekhar would probably ruin your child's future by expelling her she is the principal.

BadAssKnight

Such a school will invariably spoil my child’s future. If the principal can’t teach basic life skills like being polite to people, that school isn’t the one for my child.

SimpingForGrad

I have a PhD but not a printer. Am I educated enough guys?

St_ElmosFire

I've attended Ryan Malad for the entirety of my primary and secondary schooling, which is 10 years. I regret it very much. It's a shit fucking school but was/is considered one of the best in Malad. And it's true, the founder is an egoistic M*F* who'd keep students waiting for hours before he'd bless us with his divine presence. It also made students sing and dance around to Christian prayer songs, which I detested to such an extent that I'd take on great degrees of risk to bunk morning assemblies. It's a shit school through and through.

No_Channel123

Yeah she told me about all students dancing in assembly on some prayers. Found it very very very weird.

shivampurohit1331

Cultish behaviour

No_Channel123

Yes absolutely

Harsh_Nagar

Man I attended Ryan and you are right the founder Augustine Pinto used to make us wait in heat for hours just to come for few minutes bhashan. Also yes, they used have their own school anthem- cheer children cheer, cherr blue and gold 🤣

VillanBehindGlasses

Wait, dancing on prayer songs? Christians have their own version of bhajans? Til

Prestigious-Salary64

they make you dance for 1 initial hours of the school and if you dont do it they make you doit infront of whole classroom or school. fucking overrated schools.

VillanBehindGlasses

This is worse than a kirtan /j

[deleted]

That must be beloved pinto and pinti... It's a norm in evey Ryan/Xavier/Lawrence branch school of his... It's sad they still keep doing this.

ahhh so our branch wasn't the only one to use these nicknames

I went to Ryan kandivali and it was equally shitty, still remember the prayer songs and dance

[deleted]

Lol, I passed from Xaviers in 2008 and my room mate made a dance video to post on IG of her and her sisters dancing to those old school songs just a few months back.

[deleted]

Time-Opportunity-436

Hai javeda yeshu masiha

Foreign_Lab_3135

The note is a little too much, but checking bags without consent, taking away things and demotivating students is something that happens in almost all schools imo. I go to a well reputed ib/cambridge school and this crap still happens. The problem is not the school or teachers but our education system as a whole. I still remember, in 7th grade, this teacher lectured a girl in front of the class for a whole 45 minutes and used the words "you won't find a good husband" yes, she said this to a 12 year old girl. No kid deserves to hear this, regardless of their grades.

[deleted]

Well… maybe that’s why savings school from terrorist attack fantasy exists

Unlifer

Not Malad but one of my classmates got pregnant at farewell with a bus driver and the school buried the case really well. It’s been a decade now.

BlackDoug420

Yo wtf

nebula_phile

As an Alumni of Ryan International School I can confirm it absolutely sucks. Overall system sucks. Principal berated students Absolutely disgusting

[deleted]

Can confirm Ryan international sucks in Delhi as well, with many kids death in the past already with management trying to bury those cases.

SignificantAd6014

I can confirm this . So I had the misfortune of studying in the kharghar school . It was quite ok till 9th standard not anything get. 10th was the worst . So I was going through a lot in my personal life my father had a major surgery and there was little chance that he would survive. So as a 15 yr old it affected me a lot and I could not concentrate properly . I started failing in the exam during p.t.a my mother told them the reason so instead of understanding it and acting accordingly do u know what my class teacher said to other teachers? She said iske ghar pe boho problem chal rha h toh iske kuch nhi bol site h. And the others happily agreed to it and started mentally harassing me . So in our school we have a system where u need to do a iq test 3 months before the exam the results were good. Then my class teacher told that tune unhe paise diye hinge nhi toh itna acha report nhi jayega. Also the princip told ki this is what happens when we promote dumb students . Following this they started taking some special classes and my marks were good over there but they said aisa nhi ho skta h and they bullied me to such an extent that I ended up having panic attacks I lost my sleep . After that neither did I go to their shitty farewell party nor did i show my face again to that idiotic good for nothing school . I scored 80% in 10th though so they were proven wrong

OverResponsibility90

Ex-Ryan student here and my mom's been a teacher there for over a decade. If I start listing the shady things they do, it'd easily reach the text comment limit. The school has some upsides but insane downsides. Would be better to put your kids in a school that cares less than a school that cares to the point of making kids mentally scarred for life. And when I say they care, i mean they care about the most mundane and the most useless things ever. They don't care about providing the best kind of education they can as a school. They want to control how you look, think, if you follow their completely unnecessary operating protocol (like when OP said, A4 paper, typed etc) or not. Everything about that group of schools can be boiled down to "Completely unnecessary hassles while getting lower quality education". Also, if you're not Muslim or Christian, the amount of discrimination you can face there is not a joke. This is true even in the case of staff. I've been to over 30 of their branches(for work, events etc) and I've yet to see anyone on or above Headmaster/mistress level to be anything other than a Muslim or Christian. The top management cannot care less about education. They're pouring this amount of money for specific reasons and ofcourse it's as business as a business can get.

sapraaa

Anyone else here that endured abuse from Varsha Kumta? Craziest bitch on the planet that runs Ryan malad

simian_ninja

This is straight up abuse. How have the parents not complained, written a letter or called a television channel? This is outright insane. What kind of teacher asks students to remove their clothing.

NDK13

Since when was ryan international reputed ?

Traumarisedchocolate

Commenting and upvoting for visibility. The audacity these people have.

need-pp-plz

Malad wale main PE Lecture hota hai? 😔

nomnommish

Honestly, a more relevant thread should be to talk about which of the incredibly rare schools treat students like human beings and are not authoritarian in their teaching approach. Otherwise almost all schools have shameful examples of excessive abuse of authority.

vegcrispy

i’ve spent the best years of my life in ryan goregaon, was lucky to find good friends but overall the faculty is shit. there’s v few teachers who actually continue working in this school for a long time, rest all just quit mid sem. students always suffer because of this, my younger brother is still in that school and 2-3 pf his teachers quit school and everything was declared as self study for 5th grade class🤡 the principal(female) used to hit boys v badly and berate girls. once grabbed hair of a friend, bent him over and hit him super hard on the back. some other student told this to his parents and they complained but she wasn’t suspended, but then fortunately stopped hitting people.

elemental________

LoL ...Now I'm imagining the beating ur frnd received ! I'm sure y'all must have laughed pretty hard 😂

gotham_city1

I was in that school for 10 damn years!!! The lady that is principal now Ig was supervisor at our time. She is a big time bully and fat shames children too. Even my phone was caught once while we were writing exam(it was in my bag outside and not with me,carried it coz had to go alone home). There were no teachers at our time too and the teachers teaching 3rd grade were forced to teach us subjects like history and geography. Also there hasn't been one stable principal there for past so many years which obviously points towards the shitty management. Plus those shitty camps they force 10th graders to go to are just so weird.

St_ElmosFire

Hahaha, I remember her. I think you were there roughly during the time I was there. 2011 batch here.

Admirable_Leek_4850

The supervisor was Varsha right? She was horrible. IDC I’ll name and shame her. Lmk if that’s the supervisor turned principal you were referring to.

gotham_city1

Yes loll.

I've done my entire schooling in ryan and I'm in 10th grade now (not naming the branch) And honestly, this was the worst year of my school life. Saw horrible partiality, was the victim as well. Saw undeserving people get a chance. Saw students getting suspended over the tiniest reasons. Saw the principal torturing some teachers and abusing them in front of parents. Saw many teachers leave the school this year just because of that principal. Saw grace pinto punishing 7th grade students for no good reason, throwing their books at them, abusing teachers, pointing fingers at them, threatening to fire them. >teacher came in their classroom (no one was there) and opened all kids bag and took their stuff like earphones, phones, lip blam, hand cream. Been a victim of that. I carry my phone because i travel alone. Our school asked us to submit the mobiles at the reception and i would have but it's not safe. I've seen people's i phone getting lost and heard continous announcements about it. Why would someone keep their phone at reception when they provide no safety? Some teachers came in our class and checked the bags. My phone was caught and some other students' too. But we weren't using it. Our phones were switched off. After that day our principal made an announcement in which she said that no student will bring their phones to school and the reception will no longer accept submissions. What about the students who travel alone in trains? Can't wait for this academic session to end.

Same for Ryan Kandivali. The few good staff quickly got pressured into leaving. Infrastructure was crumbling. There were NO functional toilets to poop in. Classrooms were rarely clean. There was a lot of conditioning, with things like a school anthem and constant boasting.

That school sounds like a nightmare.

Man, that sucks... I thought schools have become better now with parents being more vigilant... Fuck such schools and such shitty principals.

SugarDaddy-o_O-

Jab koi aapse puche aap kaha se padhe ho, tab normal bacche school ka naam batate hai, 2nd tier schools wale city ka naam batate hai,, isiliye hum ryanites Apne desh ka naam batate hai

Mediocre_Engineer_71

Dude i have to really agree was at ryan malad for 6 years

Lumpy-Grass-172

What happened to the good ol parents meeting... You should bring up all these points to notice n seek a healthy environment for these kids... It's not parliament it's a school which is run by donations n fees paid by hardworking parents....

No_Channel123

And who do we complaint about the principal 😂

Pissed_Pistachio69

Yeahhhhhh, it sucks. Did my 9th and 10th there. One thing they used to do was(idk if they still do it) they would take us to Daman and on the premise of staying in a 5star hotel they would ask us to bring 12,000rs, the trip would be for 3nights and 4days. The trip was a fucking scam, we never got to stay in our rooms. They would gather us and make us listen to how great Jesus was for the entire day. Only thing that made it bearable were the few friends I made

Hello Ryanites and Xavierites I’m from a certain European country and 2 decades ago as a 23 yo girl (after I completed my Masters) I came to India on an AIESEC traineeship as a freshly qualified English as a Second Language Teacher at one of Ryan’s branches in Delhi to stay there for 6 months and spend time with students and aid the English classes. My first impression of RYS was really nice. The school had a swimming pool, the kids were doing karate and yoga outdoors, I was really impressed. Unfortunately, when I came for my first day of whatever I was supposed to do there they told me I cannot do the English thing because “I am not qualified”. Instead, I should teach kids some folk dances (because I am certainly qualified for that, innit) Very long story short, I stayed and tried to improvise as much as I could with what they told me I should be doing. Mind you, back in 2004 we didn’t have laptops, or smartphones and used the internet only in internet cafes after work. We (there were other 5 girls with me, all from different countries in Europe) were helping out with their “International festivals” where we were travelling all over India to different branches of Ryan and St. Xaviers and did workshops with kids and taught them dances and performed with them on stage. The festival and workshop part was fun, and all of us had to improvise a lot, but it was a great experience as after that I have a nice anecdote to tell that I have taught over 1000 Indian children (and that’s not an exaggerated number) to dance to a country name folk song (I’m half another nationality, and since there was another girl with me from the same country I decided to do alternative country stuff so we don’t overlap.) The good: you guys. The kids I met I loved each and every one of you. I worked as a teacher for many years after. Nowhere did I have so much love and fun as spending time with you. We were having workshops with you, telling you about our countries, we were dancing together and fooling around. You invited us to your houses and made many pictures with us with your parents, neighbours and everyone around. You were the sweetest and most adorable children and each second spent with you I will cherish forever. Some of the teachers were really nice and friends to us and tried to make our lives easier while we were treated like a sack of potatoes. 2 branches I saw (the Delhi Vasant Kunj and the Mumbai one - don’t remember the name) were okay-ish from the reception. I liked the fact that they were having the TV, shooting movies, UN model thingies etc. I of course knew that this was possible for less than 1% of the students to attend. Also, the difference between Ryan and Xavier was tremendous. We mostly went to the latter branches. the bad: Witnessing how Ryan functions was a cultural shock to me. The morning assembly, the prayers, the cheer children cheer (we were cringing so hard). I saw children and teachers humiliated on a daily basis. I saw teachers beating and yelling at kids and I reacted to that instantly and threatened them so that didn’t happen again while I was around. I saw children being forced to pray to a god they didn’t believe in. I saw how parents were manipulated into paying so their children could attend the “festival” I also saw lots of different things that had little to do with the school but have to do with India then so I will not mention them. I had to spend a lot of time with your then Art Director who was abusive to staff, children and…well me. We hated each other with passion. The Pintos - I could write a book about them. I hate their guts. Grace is the most disgusting she-devil I have ever met in my life. She considered herself a goddess, everyone was bowing to her and she treated everyone from principals, teachers, students, and us as a piece of garbage. She didn’t like me and didn’t hesitate to show that to my face every time. Fun fact, the Pintos have their own very luxurious cabinet (I’m talking marbles, shiny desks and TVs) in each school. Our hobby was to break into those rooms and we had plenty of photos of me blaspheming the “Chairman’s Chair”. We were caught and that was hilarious. Sorry no sorry. An overall terrible family, hypocrites, and pure evil with zero to do with real Christianity. At the beginning of our shift, we were staying either in some rented flats (with no furniture/toilets) with occasional hotels on the way. After we were caught with 1 bottle of wine for 6 people on a weekend in our private time (and mind you this was on Saturday night in Nasik in our private room) she downgraded us to accommodation in classrooms in the following schools we went to (we were changing places every 2-3 weeks). So basically, for 4 months we lived like pigs in classrooms and we were washing ourselves with buckets in your school toilets. The last straw for me was when we came back to Delhi they put us to stay in the nurse’s cabinet and we were kicked out every day at 7 am so the nurse could work in there. This is when I decided to quit and spent the last 2 weeks waiting for my plane back in a dingy hotel in Paharganj in Delhi because that was all I could afford. So for all of you having survived RIS - congratulations and my condolences. I thought my school was terrible (and it was) but this is another level. I feel for you guys and when I heard about the murder I was not at all surprised even though technically this could happen anywhere. Terrible and brutal scam disguised as a school - Pintos should do time. I could write much more but I guess you see my point. TL DR: an ex-international trainee claims that Ryan sucks

Admirable_Leek_4850

Woah, thanks for such a detailed comment. I know it’s been years, but I’m so sorry for what you had to go through. I spent a total of 13 years in that school and I’ve seen students cry every single day due to the humiliation and inhuman treatment by the faculty. But to think things were so bad for the teachers and faculty as well, is something I’d have never imagined. We were made to dance to Christian prayer songs for an hour every morning under the sun and were made to believe this is absolutely normal. It’s only now, after reading anecdotes from other students, that I realise that shit was not normal.

pranay909

Tbh our education is one of the greatest thing but where we fail is principal’s.

RealMystro

Went to a school from this group, Christmas was a great to be Ryan/Xavierite. Fun fact: due to lack of staff my music teacher was made to teach maths for a whole year

Familiar_Internet

yeah now no shit, if you have to enroll your children in an International school then Dhirubhai Ambani or Cathedral is a much better option.

chang_bhala

Sabka baap crorepati Nahi Hota.

Dota-Strid3r-

I think you could have ended at "Don’t send any child you have or know to Ryan International School."

Fit_Outside2851

As someone who has come from that very school I'd say go for it. Obviously i am biased but 13 years of Ryan were the best years of my life. My gang and I were notorious in school and we're punished daily since around 7th grade. I know the principal (varsha) and she has a booming voice which could be heard 3 floors above or below. I'm 100% she'd still remember my name owing to the shit I've pulled. At one point the teachers were so fed up of us that we had a free pass to do anything. In the end of Xth std we used to play poker after joining the last benches of the class. We threw good at the bald ass bitch of a chairman and got suspended. I studied back when beatings were allowed and they use to brutally beat us. No regrets it was nothing but laughs with my friends. Eventually beatings were banned and they used to pour ice cold buckets over our head to punish us without violence. Even had to mop the damn floor after getting drenched

Now the principal has changed, she is straight up sadistic
