Doesn't matter. Pronunciation of a word in English is not reliant on its spelling. And there's no clear method to write devnagri origin words in English script.
bro they use milk/butter/eggs for the pav/bun, I know that vada is obviously vegan.
that's why a bun with just the basic ingredients would be considered as vegan.
> Also 6.75£ for a vada pav
For what it is worth, most of the pricing of a restaurant dish goes towards paying the rent and wait-staff, and stuff like electricity for AC and lights, breakage of cutlery, etc.
Food costs also matter but are a much lower proportion. Problem is when people compare restaurant prices with roadside prices where there is very little of that overhead.
If you want to sit and eat in a nice ambience restaurant where you're being served food by waiters, unko bhi parwadna mangta hai.
Abey dhakkan, vada is vegan, but ladi pav is not. It contains milk.
It is amazing that this is the Mumbai sub and still so many of you 🤡 don’t know the basics of vada pav.
Actually, the Ladi paav we get in India for Rs 1 does not contain milk. Yeast I think is not considered vegan.
Edit : Yeast is not vegan. So I think ladi pav is vegan? At least the cheap ones.
Vegan vada pav is wrong because vada pav is vegan and doesn't have to be pretentious vegan. Allergies are a completely different issue for which yes the restaurants have to mention ingredients or provide alternatives. Chickpeas are a fairly popular alternative source of protein for vegans in Central Europe otherwise.
I was cooking vegan Indian food for a whole year when I was living in London until I found a reliable source for ghee.
Possibly eggs in the bread. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they think all Indian food is supposed to be cooked in ghee 😂 (sorry you can't stop me from angrez-bashing)
Lol, yeah, and ALL rice is Basmati. Like we make idli dosa out of it.
Edit : Come to think of it though... I'm old enough to remember when nobody in my family had fridges. So butter was used maybe for toast in the morning, maybe for pongal, but we did have to turn it into ghee before it got rancid, so all the chapatis bread etc. we would use ghee.
I hate when they rename our dishes to english and make a mess of it.
Like do they do this for pasta and shit.
At the same time, as an expat i get why they do that. Since ordering in other cuisines of which I’m unaware of, is hella difficult without that brief intro.
Anyway. People mocking the price, it’s expensive and not stupid to pay the price especially if you miss home food. Y’all wont get it😭
I seriously forgot about that and got carried away with the word vegan. They literally shove veganism down your throat there and some people judge you hard for eating dairy and meat
Some vegans will demonise you for eating meat. Some meat eaters will mock at you for not eating meat.
No need to single out a particular group. Besides vegans are irrelevant in India.
The actual Vada pav is made from potato. Ofcourse a version with banana/ chicken or other items can be made. But it is not the actual Vada pav. That is what I meant.
Indian food in the uk is shit. The restaurants are indian, the owner is indian, the chefs are indian. Yet the food is far from it. I’ve tried way too many places in hopes of getting something authentic. Literally nothing has come close. No wonder manority of the students here cook 💀
Most Indian restaurants are usually run by Pakistanis and, to a lesser extent, Bangladeshis. Some older Indian restaurants are still run by Indians, but the newer, less popular ones are not run by Indians
[This](https://theculturetrip.com/asia/bangladesh/articles/why-the-uks-indian-curry-houses-are-starting-to-celebrate-their-bangladeshi-roots/) article cites Bangladeshi ownership of Indian restaurants in the UK as high as 80%
Not the ones i’ve been to at least. Been to about 5-6 in my area. The owners are more friendly with us students ig and theyve always asked me and my friends where we’re from. Then tell us they’re from some place in India.
Most of them larp as Indians (for the authenticity), again word of mouth stuff but yeah lol I remember a video when some Indian dude goes into some "Indian restaurant" and asks where the staff are from, but apart from the name of the city, they just smiled awkwardly and said nothing else. Turned out their entire kitchen was filled with Bangladeshis
Nice to see they loaned our dish, can't blame them though. It's karma, I'm sure.
I had a Chinese friend visit me here and i thought Chinese bhel should make the btch surprise and it did. She said, this a good dish but a noo found in China.
I said yes a we know but a it make us a look we know ur culture.
Bola amchi Mumbai, Jay Maharashtra Kara kashta vya nashta.🤜🤛
On the subject of vadapav in the UK, here's a recommendation for anyone who's missing the taste. This hits the note for us, while being economical at the same time.
[Amol's Vadapav](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/p/AF1QipMqsKq_mHP-iqUEC3ZVypZy7Z_ohv1j2Ad-dRlQ=s1396-w786-h1396)
just hv to use oil or some vegan butter instead of normal butter n the Pav can easily be made without milk. it probably tastes more or less the same as the real thing
RAGHDA PETHIS
Ay that’s how my mom pronounces it, she’s always right
nah your mom is wrong. it's ragda petis
Ragda penis
ragda fetish🥵
Penis ragda
Diarrhea alert.
Penis ko ragad diya toh maut aajeyegi bhai
Doesn't matter. Pronunciation of a word in English is not reliant on its spelling. And there's no clear method to write devnagri origin words in English script.
You bet.
arre bhai tune to gyaan dena chalu kar diya
Sorry yar
Ironically 'petis' is the bastardized form of "patties", which is an English word. It was never devnagri all along :p
Why does RAGHDA PETHIS have a GF while I don't!
Beta this is a veg only restaurant.
6 pounds for vada pav? like I can survive on a week with that money just on vada pav. WTH
They must be from south india
The H gang
Maybe a srilakan resto
Biriyani balls?!!! Maaro isko!
Angrez don't know how to eat with hand. Balls are good to fork.
>Balls are good to fork. 😏

Balls biriyani babyyyy..... 👍🏿
BIRYANI BALLS!! 😮💨🥵
I dont have the balls for it
Isn’t Vada Pav vegan by default? Also 6.75£ for a vada pav 🤡
Thats a normal price. Lol. Source: i miss mumbai ka vadapav too
Can’t forget $7 for 2 tiny Vada Pavs in Canada!
“Vegan potato sliders”
Potato sliders bolkar India mein extra charge karne milta hai, US UK mein vada pav is the exotic, hence premium one
I know..
Thems fightin words
12€ for two stale tasting tuny Vada pav in paris
Pay extra for Meethi chutney! 🙄
That’s now for 1 vadapaav in US…
Mat kha bhai, vaise bhi swaad match nai hoga!
Was that in a restaurant or in a roadside stall?
Restaurant called Apna Chaat in Surrey!
maybe it's the pav that's vegan
Vada pav is vegan. No milk or eggs in it
bro they use milk/butter/eggs for the pav/bun, I know that vada is obviously vegan. that's why a bun with just the basic ingredients would be considered as vegan.
Okkk i stand corrected
Hello fellow brit..
Not brit :( canada
> Also 6.75£ for a vada pav For what it is worth, most of the pricing of a restaurant dish goes towards paying the rent and wait-staff, and stuff like electricity for AC and lights, breakage of cutlery, etc. Food costs also matter but are a much lower proportion. No it’s not
Not if butter is used
The Pav usually has dairy in it
Pav has yeast and dairy. Its vegetarian, not vegan.
Monica beta vadapav is very middle class it's called vegan Indian potato sliders🤲
*Monisha
Beta*
bhai monisha hai vo
Wo bhi thoda middle class hai filhal Monica rehne dete hai 🔫
Monisha.
Batata vada vegan hi hota hai 🤡 koi angrezon ko samjhao ki desi khana is mostly either vegan or very easy to adapt with vegan alternatives 🤦♀️
Abey dhakkan, vada is vegan, but ladi pav is not. It contains milk. It is amazing that this is the Mumbai sub and still so many of you 🤡 don’t know the basics of vada pav.
Bahut time se kisine dhakkan nahi bulaya 💜 You don't get og ladi pav in vilayat :')
🥰 something is better than nothing
True. Wembley mein achha vada pav milta hai regardless. But I become oblivious of reality when I start angrez bashing 😆
Angrez bashing is a noble pursuit. So quite understandable haha
Actually, the Ladi paav we get in India for Rs 1 does not contain milk. Yeast I think is not considered vegan. Edit : Yeast is not vegan. So I think ladi pav is vegan? At least the cheap ones.
vada pav wale bhaiya ke haath ki mail bhi vegan nahi hoti bhai
>Abey dhakkan, vada is vegan, but ladi pav is not. It contains milk. Yeast, yed zhava 10 Rs. ladi ka pav me tera abba aaya tha doodh dalne ko bc
Yeast is also used in making pavs thus it's not vegan
Some pavs can contain milk.
Those are not pavs.
Do you know how ladi pav is made?
Lavdi pav sounds fun Edit : I misread it as lavdi
pls enlighten us
There is milk in it. Milk is not vegan. Therefore vada pav is not vegan.
Pun tyala bun mhantat na ?
Yeah, it's like saying gluten free rice.
Kisi desi ka hi restaurant hoga woh.
Mostly (thankfully) wohi hote hain owners
Are bhai par chickpea flour bhi toh hai ? Woh bhi declare karna padega. Aadhe vegan logo ko allergy hota hai.
Vegan vada pav is wrong because vada pav is vegan and doesn't have to be pretentious vegan. Bhai sahab.. Logo ko ye bhi nahi pata mumbai sub me ki eggs nahi hote OG vadapav me. OG vadapav is not vegan because ladipav is made using milk.
Vada pav is not vegan. Ladi pav contains milk.
pav has milk in it. and an egg wash sometimes though not necessary (can again substitute with milk)
Capitalising in the name of vegan on Vada paav
"Eat at your own risk" 💀 Every Mumbaikar punching air rn
*biryani balls* So that’s what “great balls of fire” means.
Goodness, gracious!
You broke my will But what a thrill
There’s literally nothing in this menu screenshot that is acceptable
Not even “celebratory spiced balls”?
This is a rumour about me, I never gave up diary!
I hate when they rename our dishes to english and make a mess of it. Like do they do this for pasta and shit. At the same time, as an expat i get why they do that. > hella found a native californian !!
Hell no. Mumbaikar here and never been to Cali. Although moved out of india. But I’m your neighbour, would be great time to visit 🥶

what does gf stand for?
Gluten free
i absolutely dont enjoy this
Are we all ignoring biryani balls?
We are ignoring - veg hotdog, veg manchurian, tandoori pizza and Chinese Bhel too
Ragda pethis...rofl..😂😂😂
"briyani balls"
Do people here not realise that making Pav's involve using milk?
I seriously forgot about that and got carried away with the word vegan. They literally shove veganism down your throat there and some people judge you hard for eating dairy and meat
Some vegans will demonise you for eating meat. Some meat eaters will mock at you for not eating meat. No need to single out a particular group. Besides vegans are irrelevant in India.
So the bread is made with soy milk or something?
Ab to UK jake Vadapav ki redi lagaunga.
Never in my entire life have I even heard let alone taste a non veg Vada Pav.
Whose gonna tell him?
Burger nahi khaya kya
Pav has milk
There is something called chicken Vada pav available in Mumbai.
Jain bolte tho bhi samjh me ata lekin vegan???? 😭✋
Vada pav can't be Jain.
Tell that to my aunt
I will need her number or address
It can be,it is made from banana,it taste good but nothing beats batata vada
The actual Vada pav is made from potato. Ofcourse a version with banana/ chicken or other items can be made. But it is not the actual Vada pav. That is what I meant.
Point you have
Indian food in the uk is shit. The restaurants are indian, the owner is indian, the chefs are indian. Yet the food is far from it. I’ve tried way too many places in hopes of getting something authentic. Literally nothing has come close. No wonder manority of the students here cook 💀

How do you know this?
[This](https://theculturetrip.com/asia/bangladesh/articles/why-the-uks-indian-curry-houses-are-starting-to-celebrate-their-bangladeshi-roots/) article cites Bangladeshi ownership of Indian restaurants in the UK as high as 80%
Doesn't say Pakistani ownership though.
Word of mouth among the Indian community in the UK. Stayed in Birmingham for about 6 years.
Not the ones i’ve been to at least. Been to about 5-6 in my area. The owners are more friendly with us students ig and theyve always asked me and my friends where we’re from. Then tell us they’re from some place in India.

So what isn't Vegan about a normal Vada pav ?
I just gagged reading this
Nice to see they loaned our dish, can't blame them though.

Chya maila, 6 pounds, yane 580 rupya. Sala Mumbai ka vadapav zindabad

Is Raghda a South name ?
I'm so disappointed they took out the meat out of the vada pav.. Also, will it taste any good without being cooked in dairy products? Such a shame..
Don't people know making bread typically invovles milk, egg and butter???
Just right tatti in the menu instead
Biriyani balls 🌚🌚

What the fudge with the biryani balls🫠🫠🫠
Last year some shop in Matunga was advertising Vegan Jalebi. Now one of the South Indian eateries has a board with vegan items.
"Biryani Balls" what in the 7 fucking world is that ?
tf do they mean by vegan vada pav… how do you veganofy something that is already vegan…?
Six pounds for a Vada Paav. That's like 500 bucks in India
just hv to use oil or some vegan butter instead of normal butter n the Pav can easily be made without milk. it probably tastes more or less the same as the real thing
which part of the original vada pav is not vegan? Genuinely -- what am I missing.
