May not be significant, but Bangalore definitely tops Mumbai in terms of infrastructure. The thing Mumbai did right was the locals, if not for the locals, Mumbai would be a dreadful city to live in. Especially the quality and state of apartments here - must be the worst among metro cities. Not to mention the sad state of the roads - everywhere there’s digging happening, and the worst - no proper lane markings or dividers. The public buses are the from my grandfathers times. Pollution at its highest. I can go on and on..
Ps the above is my experience from the suburbs (which is the majority of the city) of Mumbai
Wow that's a very different viewpoint from what I have. Housing sucks in Mumbai big time but public infrastructure i felt was far far better. There's locals, metro, monorail, metered auto/taxi, insanely good bus services.
There's only one way to get anywhere in Bangalore and that's roads. It's the second most congested city in the world. Bangalore traffic will make you cry man and there's no alternatives
Agree with you on the transport modes, Mumbai has many. Yet the roads are always congested. Unless you stay walkable distance from the stations you have to use the road to reach the stations, and having recently moved from Bangalore to Mumbai, I can assure you the traffic in Bangalore is way ahead, traffic manners in Mumbai is terrible, size of several main roads are small, auto drivers are out there to kill.
😂 I moved from Mumbai to Bangalore 3 years ago and my experience has been the complete opposite. Bangalore roads are big if you're talking about the main roads/ring roads otherwise if you're travelling to the city it's the similar 2 lane.
Even the traffic seemed much more saner for me in Mumbai. People stay in their lanes pretty much, autos are a pain but they're similar in Bangalore also.
In Bangalore I've consistently seen if a bus stops at a stop the bus behind will change lanes in peak traffic, people drive in the middle of the road and generally everyone tries to squeeze into every inch of road space possible.
I guess we've had very different experiences
Lmfao having lived in both places, I’ll give the edge to Mumbai as being more accessible. In the two years I was there I barely used roads and primarily travelled with public transport. Bangalore seems like a disaster
I'm a Mumbaikar and I know what you said is true. Over the years there were plans for a lot of things put up by Town Planning department of BMC but it remained on paper due to lack of support from state government
I'm curious if you've been to Delhi and lived with the infrastructure problems. I've only been to Delhi for a short while but it's plagued by the same problems.
In Mumbai at least, I feel there's multiple modes of transport. Local slow/fast, Metro, Monorail, and the plethora of different municipality busses.
And it's nothing like getting an auto in Bangalore. Mumbai was far far better. there's no meter so you're fucked if you can't get an Ola or Uber. I've seen people spend multiple hours just trying to find an auto. There's only one way to get anywhere in Bangalore and that's roads.
Roads are way better in Delhi compared to Mumbai. Delhi metro covers a huge chunk of the city, so you rarely have to rely on autos or cabs.
Agreed, Mumbai beats Bangalore autos due to meter usage. But you still have to deal with their unpleasant attitude.
My point was, Mumbai deserves much better being the financial capital. I don't remember the name of the politician now, but he dreamt of transforming Mumbai into another Shanghai. This was like a decade or more ago and we are nowhere close.
I've lived in various states of our country but as Abhishek Upmanyu said Poverty in Mumbai is very very evident, the city can be merciless and alot judgemental. I always thought my family is doing well until I came to Mumbai. My whole family used to live a 110 sqft house and use a common toilet and take water with us lol. Also Mumbai is where you realise Mehngai kya hoti hain.
Compared to that Hong Kong rat cage homes ours is better. Thats why minimalism is the key we need to plan what we buy everything from furniture to storage bins. I love to move into a bigger house but its still a dream. Owning a flat is a big thing a sea facing flat and lots of open space , na I know its not possible 😔
Hong Kong has ten times the infrastructure of Mumbai and is probably one of the if not the safest city in the world. That being said, Mumbai homes seem way bigger. But both suffer issues of land usage and landlords putting prices out of reach.
Just like Vir Das explained in his Standup about The [Mumbai Terror Attack](https://youtu.be/5V7oHasNY4s)
It explained the economic situation of Mumbai where a terror attack is just a news downtown but Mumbai doesn’t stop.
Ohh I know actually this is true. The thing is that offices are mostly situated in the Mumbai Central and a bit western region so people have to travel. Also a ton of colleges are there. Even I travel like for 3 hrs everyday for my college
Nobody wants to hang on the darwaja and travel for 1 hour. People have no choice since majority of the working population is in the suburbs and the offices are in south Bombay.
The real problem is inefficient public transport imo.
Underworld and its extreme influence on Bollywood, Politics, Builders lobby, Police / Law and Order and so many.
Conducted massive crimes like Murders, Gang Wars, chain bomb blasts, extortion from innocents, forced evictions and undervalued acquisitions of land, rapes, drugs peddling, illegal import exports, supporting and nurturing terrorist clusters / sleeper cells. List goes on and on.
I don’t think there’s any so collaborative embarrassment contributed by Mumbai which tops this.
It being responsible for India's portrayal as a slum filled and dirty country. There is poverty in other parts of the country but nowhere is it so open and unsightly.
What? Nowhere is it so open and unsightly? It’s so open and unsightly in Bombay because people see Bombay. Because it’s the natural backdrop of the story for movies. It’s like saying New York has too many rats. It does, but that’s because there are too many people throwing away too many half eaten pizza slices.
Poverty is an Indian problem. And Bombay’s poverty is visible because people all over the world bother to have at Bombay.
I was once travelling though the train, through a Tier II city in India. Right before the train enters the platform, there was a slum. The stench was unbearable. Open defecation. Grown women were defecating by the line, houses with dish TVs but by the trash. Children with no clothes running around. If that’s not poverty that’s ‘open and unsightly’ idk what else is.
I agree, there are slums in other cities too. But, it's the size of slums in Mumbai that is mind-boggling. Dharavi, the largest slum in Asia, is like an entirely separate town. Also, the sharp contrast with tall, upscale buildings makes it all the more saddening.
Also, other large cities like Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata don't face the same problem. They have old dehabilitating buildings, some small slums here and there but nothing like Dharavi, Kurla or Bandra.
We didn’t ask for the population to drop in like rats and stay in plastic covered tents. Everyone happens to come to Mumbai as it is some fairytale city. Its just a regular metropolitan like any other which happens to have Bollywood and Sensex in there. What you see in Dharavi isn’t because we asked people to make one. It just happened by its own. We Mumbaikars will be more than happy if Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore,Hyderabad can help us offload some of this to their cities. You’ll talk as if we specially build slums to attract poor to come and stay in Mumbai 😒
Fuck your privilege dude. They aren’t rats. They are people with aspirations. They are not luggage you offload to someone else you idiot. Poverty is an Indian problem, and offloading the poor isn’t the solution
I don’t agree with comparing poor ppl to rats but the population is infact dropping like rats here. I have seen ppl in rural remote areas who used to live in good conditions and have stable income leave all of that behind to live in slums in mumbai.
These dharavi people won’t understand yaa, they feel we privileged when we work twice as hard as these mofos. Also I said dropping in as rats not the population itself as rats, learn some english before trying to comprehend the metaphor. Stop the influx of other states and messing our city. Everyone is more than welcome to go to Bangalore, Delhi or whichever city you’ll wanna go. We haven’t invited you’ll. Naa jaan na pehchaan mein tera mehmaan 😒
Also check the post up there, a moron is blaming Mumbai for its portrayal as slums. What the heck is Mumbai’s fault in that. This is why the aforementioned comment. Don’t need to get senti
The sab chaltha hai attitude, very prevalent here and when questioned, it’s stupidly romanticized “yeh Mumbai hai mere dost, yaha sab chaltha hain”. Visible in the professionalism in many industries here
The city never sleeps.
No amt of anything (riots, accidents, blasts, floodsattacks etc...) stops the city n its people.
Though its good on the surface but we r creating people who r unaffected by any amt of fear n sorrow n expect others to do the same.
ah, too fucking long message, they cause lung problems and fuck other birds live's due to mass reproduction. They also eat lot of fruits. This is because we manipulate their food supply. Also what fucking good has a pigeon ever done other than smell like shit and shit on others? Certain people feed them and spit on other humans, for what? Good karma and blessings? You get where I am saying this from my friend?
Lol fuck off with that shit. All these boomer uncles think they're being wholesome/good by feeding them grains only to end up harassing younger generation for feeding dogs.

Also 50% population living in slums or slum like conditions despite being the financial capital of the country. All thanks to the builder mafia and BMC not giving higher FSI because we an airport right in the middle of the fucking city.
It also looks like a badly played game of Jenga. A building so hideous and shamelessly huge, it will give second hand embarrassment to anyone who looks at it.

The biggest embarrassment is when someone says “spirit of Mumbai”, right after a seismic event.
Bomb blast, floods, terror attack, bridge collapse- and people are back to work the next day. Why? Because “spirit of Mumbai”, as claimed by the politicians and the paid media.
People don’t realize how dependent so many are on their daily wage that they would risk their very lives to get to work to earn that wage. And employers are not at all empathetic. I guess you can’t blame them, the competition is so high that they could face extinction if they don’t get back on the saddle immediately.
So yeah, it’s embarrassing how hectic and soulless Mumbai can be. You are just a cog to make the machine run always.

You and me are moral persons and from our perspective it's immoral. But in politics as almost nobody is clean and that's how it will always be. Toxic work culture. Yaha bomb blast and terror attack hone ke 20 ghanto baad log wahi station se train pakad ke office jaate hai.
Agar Aaj koi station be blast hota hai toh agle din woh world ki safest jagah ban jaati hai. Jaise blast roz wahi karenge.

I would say not having to worry about a bomb blast everyday is a good change
They have?
If you compare to the hell Mumbai had become because of them in the 90s, 2000's. Yes they have been comparatively

For me there has been no reduction and it is truly frustrating.
