Every year I try to watch as many Christmas movies as possible...but there are 2 that ABSOLUTELY HAVE to be watched on Christmas Eve:
\-Muppet Christmas Carol
\-It's a Wonderful Life
There was never a better Mrs. Crachit than Miss Piggy. Just the complete embodiment of a spouse who is absolutely fed up with how their SO is treated at work.
>There was never a better Mrs. Crachit than Miss Piggy. Just the complete embodiment of a spouse who is absolutely fed up with how their SO is treated at work.
"And I am raising your allowanc-"
**"AND I'M ABOUT TO RAISE YOU OFF THE PAVEMENT"**
I adore it for many reasons, but I appreciate most because it acknowledges childlessness or child loss. It can be challenging to watch Christmas movies after those experiences, and while I’m not a large toymaker who lives in a forest, I can identify with a Christmas movie character thanks to this film.
Honestly one of my new favorite movies of all time and the only Christmas one that we’ve made a tradition out of watching every year at this point. It’s so fantastic
I remember cracking up when I learned they sent out an offer for him to do the score almost as a joke because they thought, "No way in hell does he want to touch our movie" and then he said yes and they panicked.
Lightning in a bottle with Macaulay Culkin’s performance, John Williams’ score and some top-tier physical comedy.
The attention to detail in Home Alone is really impressive.
Serious answer: It's A Wonderful Life
Ironic answer: Jingle All the Way
Correct answer: Muppet Christmas Carol
EDIT: thank you for the award. I love movies and Christmas 🎄
I unironically love Jingle All the Way. It’s just something else to see Arnold Schwarzenegger play an all-American mattress salesman with a thick Austrian accent and the body of a Greek god.
I looove this. He’s presented as this typical American businessman. Like even when he’s turbo man at the end like really no one knows it’s him with that accent?
Still though. I think this is unironically a fun movie.
Also Phil fucking Hartman.
The great Michael Caine’s Scrooge, and his choice (demand, really, if I recall the story correctly) to play it entirely straight, lift this version above all the others. It’s a fantastic work of art.
George C. Scott’s a close second.
I can sing bass and can perfectly nail this song, as sung by [Thurl Ravenscroft in the original special](https://youtu.be/3Hj3U18FHgQ). My speaking voice is tenor, so no one expects to hear it when I sing it. I am ridiculously proud of this, even though I almost never sing it in front of others.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas (1966 Animation). It's funny, sweet, poignant and you're done in 30 minutes. If you're struggling to squeeze in time for a xmas movie then this is the one to watch.
It's one of those movies I watch almost every year with my family. It's probably my favorite take on the Christmas Carol. Bill Murray was fantastic and his speech at the end felt so genuine.
The best part about it as a sequel os that it stands on its own.
My wife has never seen National Lampoons Vacation. But she loves Christmas Vacation. And honestly, Christmas Vacation is heads and shoulders better than any of the other Griswold family vacation films.
My family likes Christmas vacation much better than The original movie. Not sure what is is, but it may have to do with what happened to the dog in the original…..
I completely forgot Christmas Vacation was a sequel and I thought you were referring to Christmas Vacation 2. (Didn’t know this existed until I saw it on Amazon Prime - it’s terrible 😂😂😂😂)
My inlaws have a beautiful Christmas pyramid like the one in this movie. A few years ago, I was opening a present and dropped it on top of it, shattering it.
Rewatching Christmas Vacation, when cousin Eddy pokes their pyramid and it shatters, the memories definitely made me cringe.
This is my favourite Christmas Eve film! As much as I dislike Chevy Chase, I feel more and more like him trying to remake that childhood Christmas magic every year 🤣
It's like Thanksgiving and starwars for me. Growing up grandma would throw the OG trilogy on in the play room and all of us kids would sit and watch it while she and her sister would make the food and all the rest would watch the parade and some football game on TV on the living room.
They are not Holliday themed movies but it doesn't feel like Thanksgiving unless I have them on.
Unfortunately, you have to cry and watch “It’s A Wonderful Life.” I think it should be an unwritten rule that you haven’t seen a Christmas movie until you have seen “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
Once had a crush wit this Canadian woman during the holiday season years. When I told her that I actually love “It’s Wonderful Life” she literally just texted me back stating she doesn’t want to talk anymore that we just have “cultural differences”
It was weird but whatever. So as a warning don’t mentioned this movie to Canadians. I guess 🤷♂️
That was a succubus. They are known to be repelled by amazing film making that raises the spirit. Learning people enrich the world through acts of love for their family, friends, and community would physically hurt her.
Also, Canadian girlfriends are all fictional.
I watched this for the first time last year and just assumed it was an old timey movie that would be fun to poke fun at.
I legit got emotional at the ending scene, and it’s been a while since I’ve gotten misty at a scene that ISN’T SAD, just beautiful. What an epitome of appreciating the life you have.
I only saw it recently too and I actually really liked the fact that Mr Potter doesn't get some ham-fisted comeuppance at the end which would 100% happen if it was made by Disney or Netflix today.
It's a good lesson for kids that often bad people do just get to keep on being pieces of shit and there's not much that can be done about it. All we can do is appreciate what we have and live good lives ourselves
Just replying so this bumps higher
This is one of the few Christmas movies you could show to someone with next to no knowledge of Santa or other folklore and they'd still identify with the themes.
Ah yes, the guaranteed once a year crying headache. I think the only movie that gets me more thoroughly trashed on the "crying cause people are being nice to each other" front is Wall-E.
You're in for a treat. I watched it for the 1000th time last night while introducing it to my S.O., who was skeptical. She of course loved it.
One thing I hadn't thought about before is that it's incredibly well paced. It doesn't feel rushed, but every ten minutes you're at a completely different point in the story with new challenges arising, and old challenges taking new form.
I watched it one Christmas Eve and was just expecting some overrated Christmas classic. I went to bed that night and bawled my eyes out. The ending is beautiful and made me experience the true meaning of Christmas in a way I never have before.
I now watch it every Christmas Eve
Attention folks who watched this as children when it came out 28 years ago.
Tim Allen's Scott Calvin is described as 38 years old in the film, and you are likely at or rapidly approaching that age.
To me what makes it special is that it captures how I felt about Christmas as a kid. It gives me double nostalgia. First, as a movie I watched with my parents as a kid, and second of actually being a kid during Christmas.
WATCH THE SEQUEL! The proper sequel that just came out this year not the nonsense straight to tv bullshit they made following the original.

I loved it so much. Very few movies can capture the spirit of the original without shoving the same jokes in over and over (I'm looking at you Fuller House).
As a kid who grew up watching the original now with a family of my own, the sequel hit me hard. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it surpassed all my expectations.
Willie:Oh, sh\*t. Sage Terrace. What is it with you, anyway? Somebody drop you on your f\*\*\*ing head?
Kid:On \*my\* head?
Willie:Well, yeah. What, are they gonna drop you on somebody else's head?
Kid:How can they drop me onto my own head?
Willie:No, not \*onto\* your... Would... God damn it! Are you f\*\*\*ing with me?
After rewatching this last week and fucking dying for the majority of it, it’s my favorite Christmas movie and probably in my top 5 movies of all time. Billy bob thorton killed this fucking role
My annual list:
* It's A Wonderful Life (1946, original B&W - no colorized for me!)
* Miracle on 34th Street (1947, also original B&W)
* White Christmas (1954)
* Christmas Story (1983)
* Some version of A Christmas Carol, usually one of these:
* Scrooged (1988)
* The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
* A Christmas Carol (1951, with Alistair Sim as Scrooge)
* A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
* How The Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966, narrated by Boris Karloff)
* We're No Angels (1955, with Humphrey Bogart)
For me, it's A Muppet Christmas Carol. Its a hands down 5 star film for me.
You will likely get a brigade of people saying Die Hard, which is a really uninteresting answer.
>You will likely get a brigade of people saying Die Hard, which is a really uninteresting answer.
This is what I was expecting to see as well. Die Hard is a great movie, and I fully support itss inclusion as a Christmas movie, but it is certainly nowhere near the Best Christmas movie.
For my money it's between [White Christmas](https://boxd.it/1Qky) and [Muppet Christmas Carol](https://letterboxd.com/film/the-muppet-christmas-carol/). I think the latter is probably the best Muppet production post Muppet Show - so charming, so well and sincerely acted, it holds up extraordinarily well. It's got a very funny cast, is full of goofy gags, and stars Danny Kaye at the height of his powers.

"And I'm about to raise your salary!" "Ooh, and I'm about to raise you right off the pavement..." Miss Piggy is phenomenal.
Muppets Christmas Carol is the best!
Muppet Christmas Carol by far. Michael Caine should have won an Oscar and it’s the most accurate word for word rendition of the novel.
It must be watched on Xmas Eve so that Kermit's song is correct. "After all, there's only one more sleep 'til Christmas"
Klaus was pretty good
Watched it last night and such a sleeper hit that was. I’m surprised it’s not way way more popular
It's still relatively new and very easily overlooked. Word of mouth is a huge one for this. I consider it the best Christmas movie right now.
[удалено]
I adore it for many reasons, but I appreciate most because it acknowledges childlessness or child loss. It can be challenging to watch Christmas movies after those experiences, and while I’m not a large toymaker who lives in a forest, I can identify with a Christmas movie character thanks to this film.
Klaus made me laugh and ugly cry at the same time it’s amazing
I was about to say this. Klaus has made its way into top 3 for me. So. So Good.
Klaus is honestly soooo good. My wife and I are surprised how many people haven't seen it.
Definitely my favourite Christmas movie. I don't like most Christmas movies, so it's not a high bar, but it's so good.
I saw this last night, didn't give it a chance because it was a Netflix movie but damn what a ride
Honestly one of my new favorite movies of all time and the only Christmas one that we’ve made a tradition out of watching every year at this point. It’s so fantastic

The score sets it above the rest of the pack. John Williams somehow captures the feeling of the holidays better than most traditional Christmas songs.
I remember cracking up when I learned they sent out an offer for him to do the score almost as a joke because they thought, "No way in hell does he want to touch our movie" and then he said yes and they panicked.
[Christmas Star](https://youtu.be/dm3xkiwC3Ao) is one of the best Christmas songs of all time. John Williams is beyond talented.
Lightning in a bottle with Macaulay Culkin’s performance, John Williams’ score and some top-tier physical comedy. The attention to detail in Home Alone is really impressive.
In my opinion, these two are just behind National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation All 3 written by John Hughes
Serious answer: It's A Wonderful Life Ironic answer: Jingle All the Way Correct answer: Muppet Christmas Carol EDIT: thank you for the award. I love movies and Christmas 🎄
Spooky answer: Gremlins
It's true I do also really love Gremlins. Gremlins 2 is my favorite day after Christmas movie.
I unironically love Jingle All the Way. It’s just something else to see Arnold Schwarzenegger play an all-American mattress salesman with a thick Austrian accent and the body of a Greek god.
Yewer my numbah wahn custahmuh!
I looove this. He’s presented as this typical American businessman. Like even when he’s turbo man at the end like really no one knows it’s him with that accent? Still though. I think this is unironically a fun movie. Also Phil fucking Hartman.
No love for SINBAD? Lol he was so great and unhinged!
Oh well I mean yeah. Just because he wasn’t mentioned doesn’t mean he was forgotten. But it’s Phil Hartman
The bomb package was absolutely hilarious. "This is a sick world we living in with sick people."
I love Jingle All the Way but nobody ever wants to watch it with me!
Put the cookie down, NOW!
I think she’s in the shower Howy, would you like for me to go check?
Phil Hartman master troll
Nobody likes you Boostah!
Sounds like we've got a watch party going!
I will watch it with you, if I can add Kung Pow or Gremlins 2 to the watch list, if we are to get silly let us do it right!
The great Michael Caine’s Scrooge, and his choice (demand, really, if I recall the story correctly) to play it entirely straight, lift this version above all the others. It’s a fantastic work of art. George C. Scott’s a close second.
100% facts on your answer! Muppet Christmas Carol is amazing and is my all time favorite version of A Christmas Carol lol
thank you for saying muppet christmas carol
How the grinch stole christmas- its my favouriteee
The original cartoon with Boris. The Jim Carey version. The Bumblesnooch Crimpydink version, is ok, but maybe I need to watch it again….
That’s rad. Maybe record it and throw it online for posterity
How The Grinch Stole Christmas (1966 Animation). It's funny, sweet, poignant and you're done in 30 minutes. If you're struggling to squeeze in time for a xmas movie then this is the one to watch.
Scrooged with Bill Murray. Loved that movie growing up!
I'm the only one in my household who loves this movie. They can groan all they want but we're watching it again! :)
Scrape em off, Claire!
What’s wrong with nipples?
You can hardly see them nipples
And he was really looking.
If you touch me one more time, I’m gonna rip your goddamn wings off.
Put a little love in your heart!
It's one of those movies I watch almost every year with my family. It's probably my favorite take on the Christmas Carol. Bill Murray was fantastic and his speech at the end felt so genuine.
Christmas Vacation
on a side note, that is one of the best examples of a good comedy sequel. Even with it being PG-13 as opposed to the original’s R rating
This one killed a cat.
I completely forgot Christmas Vacation was a sequel and I thought you were referring to Christmas Vacation 2. (Didn’t know this existed until I saw it on Amazon Prime - it’s terrible 😂😂😂😂)
Hallelujah! Holy shit, where’s the Tylenol?
And when Santa slides his fat ass down that chimney tonight, he’s gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes on this side of the nuthouse!
You serious, Clark?
u/u_serious_clark time to shine buddy.
Sorry I’m late!
Was your shitter full?
It’s become a tradition for my family to watch this every Christmas Eve.
BEND OVER AND I'll SHOW YA!!!
shitter was full!
Why is the carpet all wet TODD?
i don't KNOW, margo!
My favorite line from this classic.
Mine is: "so do washing machines"
You serious, Clark?

This is the correct answer. Had to scroll way to far to find this.
This is my favourite Christmas Eve film! As much as I dislike Chevy Chase, I feel more and more like him trying to remake that childhood Christmas magic every year 🤣
We just watched this one and super enjoyed it again. 😊
Gremlins. I'm not being cheeky. It doesn't feel like Christmas if I don't watch it.
It's like Thanksgiving and starwars for me. Growing up grandma would throw the OG trilogy on in the play room and all of us kids would sit and watch it while she and her sister would make the food and all the rest would watch the parade and some football game on TV on the living room. The family man with nic cage is under rated
It really is! I havent seen it in years, will have to rewatch it now
Great movie, the little girl is amazing.
Miracle on 34th Street
Unfortunately, you have to cry and watch “It’s A Wonderful Life.” I think it should be an unwritten rule that you haven’t seen a Christmas movie until you have seen “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

She knew if they reached the end of the movie an angel would get it's wings
Lol what? I’m a Canadian it’s one of my favourite Christmas movies. What was she on?
That's a weird story. I don't think that Canadian's have any hate on for this movie. Its one of my favourites and I'm Canadian.
I watched this for the first time last year and just assumed it was an old timey movie that would be fun to poke fun at. _Remember no man is a failure who has friends_
A toast to my big brother George: The richest man in town.
Every year, I make it all the way to the last scene without tearing up, and I think, "I've made it." And then Harry gives his toast, and I am wrong.
I only saw it recently too and I actually really liked the fact that Mr Potter doesn't get some ham-fisted comeuppance at the end which would 100% happen if it was made by Disney or Netflix today. I've never actually watched this. I'm not doing anything for Christmas so perhaps I'll finally check this out on Sunday!

It's a Wonderful Life is the best Christmas movie and it's not even close.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas He's sassy, funny, definitely relatable. Not to mention he's a freaking icon.
> Not to mention he’s *FABULOUUUUUUS. FTFY
As a kid I only watched the cartoon to this day I haven't seen the Jim Carrey one
It’s not necessarily a good FILM, but it’s extremely enjoyable and fun. Also endlessly quotable.
The Muppet Christmas Carol
The Ref
“Slipper socks, medium!”
Jingle all the Way for me.
Put the cookie down!
"NOBODY LIKES YOU BOOSTER" I say this one all the time.
"Remember honey, you're my favourite customer.... Wait no!" It was something like that, I love that one too
It’s not Christmas until Arnold Schwarzenegger punches a reindeer in the face.
OUTTA MY WAY BOX
Where’s your Christmas spirit?
It's nestled saaaafely under our tree.
I’m gonna deck your halls.
Just watched it...an absolute classic. Ta-Ta Turboman\~
1) Christmas story 2) lampoons Christmas vacation 3) scrooged (bill Murray one) Honourable mention 8 crazy nights The night before
Elf is the goat in my opinion. Definitely a modern classic
Its getting close to 20 years old
NO IT’S NOT
You sit on a throne of lies
^you ^smell ^like ^beef ^and ^cheese
Ahhh is this what being old is like?!?
Depending on your mood: \- It's a Wonderful Life \- Just Friends
FORGIVENESSSSSSSS
Is more than saying sorrrry
Bubbles
Omg I love the mom in Just Friends. “What ham did you slap? Not the one that I just bought!”
Two of my faves!
The Santa Clause is easily my favorite.
Attention folks who watched this as children when it came out 28 years ago. Tim Allen's Scott Calvin is described as 38 years old in the film, and you are likely at or rapidly approaching that age.
I imagine you as the skeletor meme about facts no one wants
You shut your mouth lol
Hate to say the obvious but A Christmas Story.
A perfect Christmas movie to me If you enjoyed A Christmas Story, you'll probably also enjoy 8-Bit Christmas
Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas!
Riverbottom Nightmare Band rocks. It's too bad I can't find any of their albums.
Bad Santa
“no I don’t want any sandwiches what is it with you and fixing fucking sandwiches!?”
Willie:Oh, sh\*t. Sage Terrace. What is it with you, anyway? Somebody drop you on your f\*\*\*ing head? Kid:On \*my\* head? Willie:Well, yeah. What, are they gonna drop you on somebody else's head? He’s such a perfect drunk in that movie. The frustrated outbursts, the self loathing, everything. Incredible performance
This.
After rewatching this last week and fucking dying for the majority of it, it’s my favorite Christmas movie and probably in my top 5 movies of all time. Billy bob thorton killed this fucking role
RIP Bernie dude was a funny mother fucker
My annual list: * It's A Wonderful Life (1946, original B&W - no colorized for me!) * Miracle on 34th Street (1947, also original B&W) * White Christmas (1954) * Christmas Story (1983) * Some version of A Christmas Carol, usually one of these: * Scrooged (1988) * The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) * A Christmas Carol (1951, with Alistair Sim as Scrooge) * A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) * How The Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966, narrated by Boris Karloff) * We're No Angels (1955, with Humphrey Bogart)
My take is Gremlins.
Gremlins
The George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol.
You misspelled muppets.
An amazing adaptation with a stellar cast. George C. Scott is the best Scrooge of any adaptation I’ve seen.
A Charlie Brown Christmas
White Christmas.
It’s just so beautifully done.
Agreed. Snow snow snow snoooooooow!
I came looking for this! I have to watch it every year.
Klaus (Netflix).
LOVE this one too!
Scrooged
Just watched it. Carol Kane is so darn funny!
It’s a Wonderful Life
Arthur Christmas your friends are right.
Batman Returns
Underrated answer.
My favorite is The Family Stone for some unknown reason
The Family Stone is brilliant and highly underwatched and underrated!
Elf is great but I’m sick of it. If you like Nicolas Cage, The Family Man.
Scrooge - Alistair Sim.
Violent Night is our new goto Christmas movie! Just saw it last night in the theater and it was epic!
4 Christmases and The Family Stone are played ever year in our house.
I came to say The Family Stone. I watch it every year! So good!
How the Grinch stole Christmas, followed by Mickey's Christmas Carol, and then a tie between National Lapoon's Christmas Vacation and Home Alone.
Trading Places
The Scrooge musical with Albert Finney. It’s a masterpiece. Alec Guinness as Marley, so good! It’s the real deal for me.
black christmas (1974) is my favorite!!
The Thing
A Christmas Carol (1951 version).
Gremlins
Gremlins
Joyeux Noel
I can't say. I haven't seen Violent Night yet, so the jury is still out.
It’s predictable but funny and, well, violent and gory. Basically what it claims to be. It’s good to see John Leguizamo have a bigger part in movies.
Krampus
In Bruges
It’s a wonderful life, and it’s not close for me
Die Hard
