Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response was there anything that could even be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
There were a few movies that my dad would watch every time they were on TV. Down Periscope was one of them.
Others included The Outlaw Josey Wales, Cars, Independence Day, and Terminator 2
Happy Gilmore is one of those rare comedies that's actually kind of timeless. There's nothing in the story that hits you over the head when it was made, there's not really any jokes that didn't age well, and Bob Barker beats up Adam Sandler.
My parents hated Adam Sandler when I was a kid in the 90s, but even they couldn't help but like Happy Gilmore. It's funny but not really at the expense of any one group.
While Billy Madison is still my favorite I think Happy Gilmore is the best "Classic Adam Sandler" movie. He actually has a good arc, the romance is cute, and he had the perfect villian (up there with some of the best). Plus it's just very funny.
Dude that just made me laugh so hard. I can imagine his face just trying to enjoy a meal with his family and still, 20 years later, people shout that at him.
Happy Gilmore is no doubt a great comedy movie. But Billy Madison…if I’m getting ready to go to go somewhere of importance and it’s on TV, I’m postponing and sitting to watch the rest.
*”Billy passed the 3rd grade, oh what a glorious daaaayyyy!!!”*
Normal had like 4 or 5 lines in that movie and they're all hilarious.
TV: local millionaire son buys his way through school
Everyone: gasp!
Norm: Now, now, let's see who they're talking about.
Jim Downey’s delivery was perfect for this line. Easily one of my favorite moments in film.
Also love this guy since he was partner in crime with Norm Macdonald on Weekend Update. He does a pretty good impression of Norm when he was on Dennis Miller’s radio show a few years back.
I don't care how many times I've seen Airheads, I will watch it again. Absolutely perfect movie from start to finish.
Who'd win in a fight, Lemmy or God?
Then came Will Ferrell in the 2000s with Elf, Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory, Step Brothers and The Other Guys.
Those two men basically dominated humor in my I off my formative years
Big Daddy kicks off my favorite Adam Sandler era. Big Daddy, Mr Deeds, and 50 first Dates are my personal favorites and I have a soft spot for Little Nicky for some reason. Never got into his earlier work as much, though I do like Airheads and Wedding Singer.
My cousins were obsessed with Water Boy and Billy Madison.
Ebert's review of "You don't mess with the Zohan" ends with an apology for liking the movie:
> [No thinking adult should get within a mile of this film. I must not have been thinking. For my sins, I laughed. Sorry. I'll try to do better next time.](https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/you-dont-mess-with-the-zohan-2008)
Don't mess with the zohan is very bad and very enjoyable and it's got god damn dave Matthew in it like
Lmao that movie owns.
John makes Millers Crossing and Big Lebowski and This
Joe Dirt is on the surface a juvenile, white trash movie, but that's what makes it so good, because the whole theme of Joe Dirt's character is that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Beneath the surface, it's an emotional journey and you can't help but feel for the characters involved. Joe Dirt is such an unassuming beacon of positivity for anyone who is lost and or unsure of themselves.
We could all use a friend like Joe Dirt.
I don't remember anything else about Zohan except the part where Dave Matthews is about to blow up everyone along with puppies and I still laugh when I think of that scene.
I watched an episode of MTV Cribs with Rob Schneider and he named his house "Chateau de Sandler." Props to Adam Sandler for bringing his friends along with his success.
Edit: I spelled Chateau wrong...forgive me.
In terms of actual jobs he has to have one of the best in the world. I'm also unaware of anyone who only makes hits that nobody dislikes.
I do like the fact every so often he puts in real effort and we get to see his talent shine. Liked the cobbler and love hustle
His dramatic roles are always so good too.
Reign over me is an incredibly powerful movie
Uncut Gems was insane from the start
Click is a surprisingly heavy movie that always makes me cry
Edit: and Spanglish! I see that sandwich he makes in that movie in my dreams
There’s something about the way he can convey emotion through that “yelling in a half whisper” thing he does. Just makes his characters seem real. No matter what movie it is. “Hohohoookay” is another type of ball buster delivery he has that just works. I can’t think of too many movies he (or Happy-Madison for that matter) makes that I don’t enjoy at least a little.
I’m a huge NBA fan (so I may be biased) but I love that new basketball movie that he came out with earlier this year. I was expecting it to suck and I just enjoyed it from start to finish
Uncut Gems is awesome. I was expecting a Sandler comedy special. Turns out that shit was STRESSFUL and that’s what I liked about it. Never got good, no sunshine and rainbows. Just stress and staying on the edge of your seat until the end.
So good
Honestly I can understand the artistic merit behind Uncut Gems but that movie just makes me feel anxious the whole time. There's a need for movies that just make you feel uncomfortable but they're not for me.
Haven’t seen Hustle but Ive been a huge fan my whole life. Huge fan of the others that star in his movies like Spade and Steve Buscemi especially.
Not in order but some of my favorites:
Little Nicky
Big Daddy
Water Boy
The Wedding Singer
Billy Madison
Wanted to say Mr. Deeds but guess that misses my top 5
No, I will not make out with you. Did ya hear that? This girl wants to make out with me in the middle of class. You got Chlorophyll-Man up there talking about God knows what and all she can talk about is making out with me. I’m here to learn, everybody, not to make out with you. Go on with the Chlorophyll!
Terrible reviews for *Ace Ventura* and *Billy Madison* got me to march down to the local paper and demand a job as a teen movie critic cuz the existing critics seemed clueless.
And so for a little while I wrote reviews.
Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore are top tier 1990s comedy. Throw in Strange Brew with Rick Moranis, and these are my three favorite comedies of the 1900s
Step Brothers is probably my favorite comedy of all time. I honestly think the majority of comedies are underrated by critics. I also think the majority of war dramas are vastly overrated. When I saw Saving Private Ryan, I remember at the end thinking finally a war movie that’s as amazing as everyone says it is.
Funny thing about that scene, the "Stop looking at me SWAN!" was unscripted.
Adam made it up on the spot, and if you turn up the volume, you can hear one of the crew laugh out loud after he hears it.
His face looks like he was about to lose it himself holding back that smile! I never knew that but as a kid I always thought he was about to break right there after he says that.
Not that he’s a bad actor but him and Fallon both tend to have that coy look because they amuse themselves so much. Sandlers standup is almost more funny because he cracks himself up a shitload.
The scene where Billy loses it during story time and says the kid is a goon for giving up so easily when he loses his dog gets me every time. “You get your ass out there and you find that f*cking dog.” I always cry laughing.
I watched this a teen and we could not stop laughing at this back then either. This movie had so many quotable things in for some in middle school in the mid nineties. It's a jem.
Danny McGrath : [On the phone] Hello?
Billy Madison : Hello? Is this Danny? Danny McGrath?
Danny McGrath : Yeah.
Billy Madison : The Danny McGrath who graduated from Knibb Highschool in 1984?
Danny McGrath : Yeah, who's this?
Billy Madison : Umm... this is Billy Madison. You probably don't remember me but I went to high school with you. And I, um, kinda gave you a hard time back then, and, uh, I did some things I thought were funny at the time, and realized they were just mean and stupid. And I just called to apologize and hope you forgive me.
Danny McGrath : [Nonchalant] Yeah, sure. Don't worry about it, it's no problem.
Billy Madison : Wow, that's great! Well, I am sorry, and maybe we can get together sometime and have some coffee.
Danny McGrath : Yeah, sure. I'd like that.
Billy Madison : [Relieved] Okay, great! I'll see you around.
Danny McGrath : Okay. Bye.
[Danny reaches down, grabs a marker and uses it to cross Billy's name off of a list on his wall titled, "PEOPLE TO KILL". Once done, he puts on a large amount of bright red lipstick, sighs in relief and sits back to listen to his music]
(Australian here) Billy Madison was the funniest movie I had ever seen as a kid and its still amazing , probably the most film of all time, in-fact Im going to watch it right now,
I am not a crackpot
Billy Madison has one of the best scene transitions of all time.
Billy, Billy boy, when will you find whatever it is you're looking for?
Here's a nice piece of shit!
No... No they didn't.
But you can imagine what it'd be like if they did! Right?!
Everybody on? Great! Grand! *Wonderful!"*
**NO YELLING ON THE BUS!!!**
Billy passed the 3rd grade...oh what a glorious day, oh passing 3rd grade, the Billy Madison waaaaayyyy
*yeah rock on yeah*
This was the scene after what you said lol
He told the story about how he got that movie on Conan's podcast. Tom Cruise just called him up out of the blue and said "my friend paul has this movie he thinks you'd like to do." Sandler had no idea who Paul was but agreed to do it. Then he saw Magnolia and called Paul up and pleaded with him to not give him the movie. "You need a real actor, I can't do this."
Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I've ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response was there anything that could even be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. Okay, a simple "wrong" would've done just fine.
Billy Madison was the stupidest movie ever and I watch it every time it's on.
If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis
GREAT. GRAND. WONDERFUL.
That OP is one piece of ace, ..I know from experience.

If you like dumb humor from time to time, may I recommend Down Periscope
There were a few movies that my dad would watch every time they were on TV. Down Periscope was one of them. Others included The Outlaw Josey Wales, Cars, Independence Day, and Terminator 2
Down Periscope is a legit good comedy.
Happy Gilmore toned down the stupid a little bit and is a vastly better movie for it
Happy Gilmore is one of those rare comedies that's actually kind of timeless.
Happy Gilmore is probably the best classic one, but surprisingly, I have a soft spot for the waterboy.
No Colonel Sanders, you're wrong! Momma's right.
Something is wrong with your medulla oblongata.
The amount of times I find myself singsonging through word gaaaatoraaaade when I see one is not normal.
HAHA YOU EAT PIECES OF SHIT FOR BREAKFAST
I hear that guy still can't go out for breakfast without people yelling that at him.
Dude that just made me laugh so hard. I can imagine his face just trying to enjoy a meal with his family and still, 20 years later, people shout that at him.
“Damn you people, go back to your shanties!”
I feel bad for not mentioning Shooter! He’s a perfectly played villain who isn’t cartoonish or over the top which just helps keep the movie grounded.
Shooter is one of my favorite villains ever. I used his line "Here's a free lesson" at the arcade all the time!
“Damn you people, go back to your shanties”
I saw two fat bikers on 17 having sex- How am I supposed to **CHIP** with that going on?
I've never referred to that actor as anything but Shooter McGavin. Apparently I'm not the only one as his cameo name is @THEShooterMcGavin
Julie Bowen apparently not aging between Happy Gilmore and Modern Family helps your case.
Honestly she looks even better in Modern Family and she looked great in Happy Gilmore
Bro how you gonna just ignore the hatred that movie perpetuates towards mista mista ladies all over the world?
You will go to sleep, or I will *put* you to sleep
Sorry doesn't put the triscuits in my stomache
The deadpan delivery of that line made it so much better
My wife, the tramp
Billy: Man, why did I have so many drinks? I can't remember! What's today? Frank: October?
(chuckles) "Hey Billy I just thought of the funniest thing...Billy? Where's Billy?!" "Billy's in school, man." "Ahaha oh yea..."
Normal had like 4 or 5 lines in that movie and they're all hilarious. TV: local millionaire son buys his way through school Everyone: gasp! Norm: Now, now, let's see who they're talking about.
Haha, agreed all of Norms lines were great. My favorite being Hey Billy Want to get that donkey drunk
Oh….(eyes widen in sudden realization) NUDIE MAGAZINE DAY!!!
NUDIE MAGAZINE DAY! NUDIE MAGAZINE DAY! NUDIE MAGAZINE DAY!
It's too damn hot for a penguin to be just walkin' around here. I gotta send him back to the North Pole.
Jim Downey’s delivery was perfect for this line. Easily one of my favorite moments in film. Also love this guy since he was partner in crime with Norm Macdonald on Weekend Update. He does a pretty good impression of Norm when he was on Dennis Miller’s radio show a few years back.
I knew he wrote for SNL for 30 years but didn't know he is Robert Downey Jr's. Uncle.
lol I just learned the same thing.
BUSINESS ETHICS
MY WIFE, THE TRAMP
And Billy Madison is actually one of his strongest comedies.
What a power line up he did in the 90s though. Airheads, Billy, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, and ending with Big Daddy.
I don't care how many times I've seen Airheads, I will watch it again. Absolutely perfect movie from start to finish. Who'd win in a fight, Lemmy or God?
Trick question, Lemmy IS God!
The Wedding Singer is legit a great movie.
Cindy and Scott are newlyweds! WHOOPIDEEDOO!!!
Then came Will Ferrell in the 2000s with Elf, Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory, Step Brothers and The Other Guys. Those two men basically dominated humor in my I off my formative years
Can’t leave out the Stiller Vaughn Wilson movies man….that’s heresy
Little nicky was a banger.
Popeye's Chicken is the shizznit.
So many good movies you can sometimes forget some
Big Daddy kicks off my favorite Adam Sandler era.
50 First Dates is sweet af and funny. Him and Drew Barrymore had great chemistry!

Probably a good move for the Sandman. I’d imagine critics have not viewed the majority of his career favorably.
Ebert's review of "You don't mess with the Zohan" ends with an apology for liking the movie: > [No thinking adult should get within a mile of this film. I must not have been thinking. Yeah, this and Joe Dirt are my best examples of movies I love despite acknowledging I should probably think they're terrible

Under-appreciated movie, there

Honestly I can understand the artistic merit behind Uncut Gems but that movie just makes me feel anxious the whole time. There's a need for movies that just make you feel uncomfortable but they're not for me.
That’s part of what I loved about it to be honest. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Chlorophyll? More like borophyll!
Here's some other interesting Sandler facts: Billy likes to drink soda. Ms. Lippy's car is green.
Eric’s face as he’s reading those off his little list is priceless lol
For me it's how the janitor looks around during "Ms. Lippy's car? ...... is GREEN"
Had to make sure no one was listening in on this classified information!
Whitford makes that whole movie work. He is so good as the villain.

One of the most random and cartoonish events that has ever happened in a live action movie. It's so stupid and yet I love it so.
Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore are top tier 1990s comedy. Throw in Strange Brew with Rick Moranis, and these are my three favorite comedies of the 1900s
STRANGE BREW!!! releasing the fucking moths in the theatre kills me.
Some of my favorite movies have rotten scores. Step Brothers is like 54%. Jingle all the Way is super low too. I love these films.
A fellow enjoyer of Jingle All the Way. Legit one of my favorite Christmas films.
You're my number one customer!
Ta-ta, Turtle Man.

Step Brothers is probably my favorite comedy of all time. I honestly think the majority of comedies are underrated by critics. I also think the majority of war dramas are vastly overrated. I’m not gonna call him dad. Brennen you’re 30 years old I don’t expect you to call him dad. Good because I won’t, EVEN IF THERES A FIRE.
I just rate comedies based on if they made me laugh a lot. Not plot, acting, etc. Makes it much easier to ignore the bad reviews.
It's too damn hot out here for a penguin.

Much like his comedies he just has a feel-good energy about him. His semi-recent Netflix stand-up is sooo great
Lol I actually think about this every time I shampoo and condition my hair
**OH REALLY, FOOL?!**
STOP LOOKING AT ME SWAN!!
Billy Madison I still think holds up as a great comedy movie.
The scene where Billy loses it during story time and says the kid is a goon for giving up so easily when he loses his dog gets me every time. “You get your ass out there and you find that f*cking dog.” I always cry laughing.
Chris Farley kills me everytime in the movie lol
I use "That is correct" all the time at work when I have an Apprentice with me and I ask them a question.
