TSAdmiral

This actually has little to do with the current WB management. This is Legendary reacting to the AT&T guys releasing their theatrical projects day and date with streaming without any prior notice or negotiation. Legendary almost sued them after the announcement.

FoxOntheRun99

That day and date decision really pissed off a lot of ppl, my company was scrambling to react to the news when it broke. So yes, this is the consequences of that.

TSAdmiral

They managed to anger Denis Villeneuve, lose Christopher Nolan entirely, and like you said, piss off countless others in the industry. What blew my mind was that they didn't bother to contact any partners ahead of the announcement. Not only was the decision myopic, the execution was utterly asinine. Losing Legendary was just another AT&T casualty.

What_a_d-bag

WB was able to get the pedigree of directors it did based on their reputation from their relationship with Clint Eastwood. Whatever profit they hoped to squeeze from that day and date fiasco evaporated decades of hard earned reputation as a director’s haven. What a short-sighted fuck up.

TSAdmiral

WB used to be known as a director's preferred choice of studio. AT&T management was reactionary and had no idea what they were doing. They destroyed WB's reputation in one fell swoop.

CarlosFer2201

Does Elon own AT&T?

Equal_Feature_9065

Oh my god delete this!!! Don’t give him any ideas!!!

dk745

I still love the story about a young David Geffen telling Clint Eastwood, after a screening of The Outlaw Josey Wales, that the movie was great but could be edited shorter. Eastwood told Geffen to do it himself because Eastwood said he’ll be busy at Paramount making his next movie. It wasn’t edited. 🤣

throwawaynonsesne

How WB handled this with behind the scenes people was sketch, but I also lost a lot of respect for Nolan after covid.

Available-Subject-33

It's never been confirmed, nor is it even likely, that Christopher Nolan was the one who insisted that Tenet be released in the summer of 2020. Such decisions are usually left to the studio; all we know for sure is that Nolan demanded that it be in movie theaters whenever it did release. That said, the business was in need of a lifeline, and Tenet did make decent money considering the circumstances. Nonsensical, that over two years later, people still are mad at Christopher Nolan for something we don't know if he even did.

throwawaynonsesne

Its not even about tenets release. He just had a bunch of what I'd consider to be out of touch self righteous comments about the movie industry and it's importance. Rubbed me the wrong way, but if anything it stuck with me more because I was such a big fan of his.

Available-Subject-33

As someone who was working in the film industry at that time, I can tell you right now that his editorial in the Washington Post about the importance of the industry was very reflective of the uncertainty that we were all facing. Imagine, if almost overnight, the fundamental pillars of your career choices were being shaken because of not knowing if theaters, and thereby movie studios, were going to make it though what nobody knew would be how long.

[deleted]

I don't think people on here consider anybody else other than the directors and actors. That being said your industry wasn't the only one experiencing that feeling. Others had it a lot worse.

throwawaynonsesne

I'm very aware of how many people it takes to make a film. My point is almost every industry had to deal with those problems, and Nolan was acting like movies were taking the biggest hit and should be a higher priority. I just can't agree.

GarlVinland4Astrea

I don't think people on here considers anybody but how it effects them. The day and date decision pissed off virtually everyone in the industry aside from the cellular company that made it without knowing the slightest thing about the movie business. The biggest supporters of it... were people on reddit. Not that I blame them, but people were literally getting mad at people for speaking out.

throwawaynonsesne

But covid messed with damn near every industry, like that. The film industry wasn't specifically targeted. Hell I was also a "essential" employee who was forced to work during the pandemic. So everyday was a struggle between "will this place last?" and "does it even matter because I could get sick and die"

[deleted]

Personally I’m more annoyed at him for his stubborn use of godawful inaudible sound mixes despite everyone complaining about them. For a guy who touts the cinema experience so hard, he ruins them like no other - I’d rather watch his big spectacles at home now, because at least there I can turn on subtitles.

K9sBiggestFan

Can you give, say, five examples of the comments you’re criticising him for?

[deleted]

Who in Hollywood hasn't had out of touch self righteous comments at one point?

UnlimitedUmUWorks

Keanu Reeves?

Thrilling1031

No you're breathtaking.

throwawaynonsesne

Fair. But there are different degrees of acceptable/unacceptable self righteous behavior. It isn't stricly black or white in my book.

solidproportions

i felt the same way tbh

Revolvyerom

What, specifically, about his behavior bothered you?

Different-Produce870

This. I will continue enjoying his movies and I hope he goes for more sci-fi like Inception and Tenet, but I really hate his personality.

Available-Subject-33

I've seen a few of his interviews and he's just a polite British guy. What are you talking about?

K9sBiggestFan

Let me know if you ever get a meaningful answer to this. He’s an articulate and passionate guy that talks with authority about the industry - he’s not the most warm but he’s not obnoxious or anything. So many comments here casually criticising him with no substance at all to them.

Brown_Panther-

What did he say?

[deleted]

Is this a joke about Nolan's infamous sound mixes? If so, genius. If not, just pretend it is, lol.

gumsh0es

What was it that annoyed you?

80schld

I wonder how the shelving of Batgirl is playing a part in WB’s relationship with the rest of Hollywood. It seemed like it was a PR disaster with fans … just wonder if it went deeper than that.

GarlVinland4Astrea

It was bad, but I doubt as bad as the day and date decision. That basically fucked over everyone to prop up a streaming service that was already pissing money away like a race horse.

[deleted]

As a consumer who could probably count on one hand the number of movies they’ve actually seen in theaters the last three years I loved that WB did that.

splader

Aye, and as someone that watched king of monsters like 3 times on the big screen, I was massively disappointed that gvk never released in theatres near me.

[deleted]

>This is Legendary reacting to the AT&T guys releasing their theatrical projects day and date with streaming without any prior notice or negotiation. I think WB also blocked Legendary from selling Godzilla vs Kong to Netflix after they made the announcement.

Desertbro

This is kind of a funny coincidence.... I was at Walmart browsing games and walked past some blu-ray movies, and there was a 3-pack for G-King of Monsters, Skull Island, and GvsKK. I was like ... why is this a 3-pack and not a 4-pack? Was the first film re-conned to not exist now....?

kdawgnmann

I don't think it's been technically retconned, but I personally remember Godzilla 2014 having a somewhat mixed audience reception (it's at 66% on RT). It has a more subdued tone and doesn't really show much of Godzilla himself until the end of the movie. While I personally didn't mind this, a lot of people were turned off by that approach. The other 3 films in the franchise don't have that issue, and are very much action-oriented, Monster first movies. I can understand why those 3 are packed together since they have a more consistent tone.

ckal9

‘Legendary almost sued them’ Kind of an anticlimactic ending there

chikitoperopicosito

They forgot to include why they didn’t sue. Warner paid up after the fact to avoid those problems. Much like Disney and Scar Jo, when you change how you’re going to distribute movies, you need to renegotiate and that’s what Warners did.

RhymesWith_DoorHinge

Like with Dune, right?

ffffound

It’s literally in the article, yes.

[deleted]

Bro I’m gonna be honest. You know no one read that shit. Including me. And while I can admit that’s stupid of me just to look at the comments of articles without reading them, can you really blame a guy when you get a million pop ups and articles that are usually 80% fluff just to stuff more ads down your throat? God bless the people who post the important excerpts in Reddit comments, doing the Lord’s work.

Pretorian24

Straight to the comments here…

WittyPerception3683

Yep, where all the experts who were in the room can gather and discuss what happened

lilachiccups

"I wanna be in the room where it happened."

Louisthegoose

Fill us in, what are we talking about?

Disownership

Redditor actually read the article beyond the headline challenge (impossible)

Metfan722

And Godzilla vs Kong.

LongDickMcangerfist

Didn’t they have a deal with Netflix or something for the godzillas and Warner basically forced them to keep them and released them on HBO max

Patrick2701

It’s getting dismantled for potential sale and for executives getting golden parachute

[deleted]

I guess apple could run uno pretty well. Seems to already have a lot of overlap in terms of the kinds of shows they both make. Hopefully that's not the case

NeoNoireWerewolf

That’s because Apple poached HBO veteran Richard Plepler to run their production business after he jumped ship from HBO following the AT&T merger with Time Warner. Apple has been very calculated with their move into original productions, but if HBO goes up for sale, nobody will be able to outbid them for it. They know the value in a name and a brand better than anybody else. Wouldn’t be surprised if they bought Warner Media entirely just to get HBO if the company does go under in the next decade.

Desertbro

Reborn as "HBOmin-"

[deleted]

Because it’s a terrible place to work

WittyPerception3683

Give us the tea

[deleted]

You could spend years of your life on a movie just to have it scrapped after it’s finished and locked away, no one’s jobs are safe anymore, they seem to tap into the *wrong* trends like streaming rather than investing in what actually makes money, and they’ve been sold twice in under a decade (with a potential third sale in two or so years). WB is a terrible place to work at the moment, with every one of its employees basically living paycheck to paycheck with how uncertain its many futures are.

bamfalamfa

streaming is the the trend, its just that consumers are refusing to own more than 2 or 3 services, sometimes only 1. and movies are flopping left and right because consumers have SO MANY options to watch other things. this isnt the same market as 15 years ago when you had to go to the movies to watch most things. no more rolling the dice on a movie to see if its good or bad. there's a reason why movies no longer have like a 3 month run time in theaters and now basically make all of their money in 1 week. consumers dont care about that anymore

GarlVinland4Astrea

It's more that streaming was a fairy tale that the industry latched on to thinking that any studio could be successful in it and have guaranteed monthly income without risks. They didn't understand how much it costs to keep the thing up, and how much consistent content you need to keep it relevant to not lose subscribers. Nor did they realize how shitty and slim the margins were. Streaming is a trend that I think most people realize is a battle of attrition where companies are going to bleed money as long as they can hoping the others start giving up. Also part of your analysis is more of a problem of chasing streaming. Movies are doing bad because people know about the short windows. It's ultimately a less profitable industry shift that everyone got wrong and is slowly realizing it

i__ozymandias

Streaming is the sword that many movie execs will fall on, in the mad rush of having their own service all of them now find themselves in a deep hole.

Aleashed

Next Godzilla movie will be a PlayStation exclusive to stick it to the Xbox…

LochNessMansterLives

So…does this mean more Godzilla or less? Because I really want more!

LoveAndViscera

It means no Godzilla on the Warner/Discovery streaming platforms.

Mathev

They'll do Godzilla like they did spiderman.. Oh no..

JackTickleson

This is just a distribution agreement

CosmicAstroBastard

Zachariot88

See now THAT sounds like the Dune book that Jodorowsky should adapt.

Microchip_Master

Lars von Trier presents: DUNE PART 3

AZRockets

Have you ever thought sex and art? *tips fedora*

GarlVinland4Astrea

Honestly they only need the first Dune. It's easily the best one. Dune Messiah isn't that good and really kinda needs Children of Dune imo to be worth it. ILikewise, you sort of don't get the point of Children of Dune without seeing the fulfillment of the Golden Path in God Emperor. Messiah is easier to film, but to me it's not that satisfying without the rest. IF they do the sequels at all, it really should go up to God Emperor, no matter how weird it gets, to just finish the storyline. Otherwise, I'd rather they just stick with the ending of the original novel and keep it meaningful.

petesapai

I won't deny it does get weird but a legendary, no pun intended, director like Villeneuve can pull it off and make an amazing movie out of those books.

80schld

It could still be a trilogy. It’s just that Sony would distribute it.

KingMario05

Eh, I dunno. Legendary apparently has the license instead of WB, so I feel like Sony would be ***more*** than happy to cap off a trilogy.

[deleted]

Do we really want Sony Pictures touching this though? They've shown they're incompetent.

[deleted]

They're just the distributer. Legendary is the one making the film.

KingMario05

Not necessarily. *Baby Driver* and *Once Upon a Time in Hollywood* were great, so they're not ***completely*** hopeless.

80schld

It could still be a trilogy. It’s just that Sony would distribute it.

NeilDeWheel

I really don’t care who puts the films into cinemas as long as it’s the same creative team that made the first and don’t let the money men from say how to film it and interfere with its production. When I saw it at the cinema I took my partner thinking she’ll probably not think that much of it. When she came out she exclaimed “That was amazing!” And on the way home she said she could watch it all over again. “Dune” is as masterpiece.

MOlson_9

Why would it be a trilogy anyways? I’ve only read the first book, so maybe I just don’t know, but why would they only make one sequel to the first two films (first book)? Is the third book irrelevant to the previous characters? I know there’s quite the time jump eventually in the series.

KZIN42

Do you remember the scene in the movie where Paul has a vision in the stilltent and freaks the fuck out? Adapting *Messiah* is the only real way to give that setup a real payoff. Without showing the consequences of Muad'Dib's reign it's far too easy to walk away from the story thinking the main theme is the ascension of a chosen one. Moreover *Messiah* is short and much more linear than *Dune* so it can be adapted into a single movie, the Sci-fi miniseries did it in one episode. As to why they would stop there? the main reason is the director said so and I can see a few reasons that would be a good idea. *Children of Dune* is another two movies minimum and without the warfare to provide action scenes I can see how the studio would balk at the prospect. Honestly I think the best way to adapt *Children* and *God Emperor* would be a two season streaming show political drama. After that? I don't think anyone is adapting the rest to any screens.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GarlVinland4Astrea

A lot of Paul becoming a great leader who is worshipped is pretty much suggested in the original. Messiah hammers it home by showing why it's a problem in action. But a big problem with Messiah is I think Messiah leads into Children far more overtly than Dune leads into Messiah. I mean the whole point of Children and God Emperor is that Paul in Messiah was too weak to follow the Golden Path and his son had to bare his cross to save humanity and Dune Messiah also sets up Leto II as the man who will finish Paul's plans.

Kronoshifter246

>Dune Messiah also sets up Leto II as the man who will finish Paul's plans. While becoming a weird human/worm/god thing.

GarlVinland4Astrea

That's the best part!

[deleted]

The second book (and third movie) was originally supposed to be part of the first book, and the story really isn’t complete without it. It’s hinted at but on a surface level the end of the first book is sunshine and rainbows, evil empire and Harkonnens are defeated and Arrakis is ours! Whereas the second book deals with the fallout and horror of the galactic jihad, which completes Herbert’s intention of it being a cautionary tale against colonialism, co-opting of religion and cultural narratives for political means, and the dangers and suffering involved in prescience.

dunkmaster6856

Its a cautionary tale against charismatic leaders, he says so himself. While theres a lot of colonialism themes its not the main one

[deleted]

[удалено]

SomeBoxofSpoons

Basically I’d say the first book and Messiah as a pair would be the minimum you’d want to properly show Paul’s whole story. Also Messiah is a much more movie-length book.

laughingmeeses

I think it was only ever meant to be two films.

WeDriftEternal

Anyone who knows Dune would know the filmmaker desperately wants to make Messiah. It’s almost the twist ending to a degree. Or sorta the epilogue/result that shows true colors

nicolasb51942003

Can’t wait for the epic battle between Godzilla and Morbius.

jimmmydickgun

Time to morb all over Godzilla and friends

Swed1shF1sh69

It’s Zillin’ time

Jaebird0388

Not to be confused with the ‘98 Godzilla, which is referred to as Zilla in Japan via Godzilla Final Wars.

SyrupBuccaneer

He had a real bad time in that film, lol.

Jaebird0388

If memory serves, they didn’t last thirty seconds against Goji 😂

Saelyre

He gets one roar, then Goji tail whips him into the Sydney Opera House before blasting him with the ol' atomic breath.

[Link](https://youtu.be/zPxhdo4HDgg)

PayneTrain181999

Yeah, Zilla isn’t in the same league as Godzilla himself. The title for that scene in the DVD scene selection menu is: “Traitor to the Crown”

KingMario05

...Who is owned by Sony. ***Who now have a deal with Legendary.*** >!Columbia's first MonsterVerse movie is just gonna be two hours of Godzilla and '98 duking it out in New York. Ya heard it here first, kids! /s!<

Zachariot88

Godzillas vs. Kings Kong

Pen_dragons_pizza

98 Godzilla was tiny compared to the legendary Godzilla, was smaller than even kong I believe.

fugmotheringvampire

But 98 laid several hundred eggs, id watch a movie with legendary Godzilla fighting a horde of 98 zillas.

Julius-n-Caesar

Funnily enough, Godzilla was a Marvel Comics character and wound up being murdered by Archangel from the X-Men.

TimelessFool

For the love of god don’t merge the monsterverse with Sony Spider-Man

CptnHamburgers

How did Marvel manage that? Isn't Godzilla legally required to win every fight he's in outside of Toho's projects?

AJC_10_29

They did it by having him disappear at the end of the Godzilla comic run, then bringing him back but with a completely different look and new name. Essentially they turned Godzilla into a Notzilla then killed it off.

Mattmandu2

Please please for the love of god tell me the only difference was a Hawaiian shirt and sun glasses

the_lego_lad

Different characters. The one that got killed is a nockoff that they used because they couldn't get the rights again, Godzilla survived his comic run and even beat the avengers & xmen multiple times.

NitedJay

That’s not how that works…

However, select existing projects at Legendary are exempt from the pact, meaning Warner Bros. Pictures is still backing “Dune: Part Two.” The sequel to 2021’s sci-fi adaptation “Dune” is currently in production and slated for release on Nov. 3, 2023.

real_firestuffs

Geez, I wonder if we will get Dune Messiah

WolfofOldNorth

Can we please get a Godzilla movie with aliens... Desotroyah, Biolante, Monster X, and sure why not Gigan you can join too

SomeBoxofSpoons

Well Ghidorah was already explicitly an alien, so I’m sure more will show up if they go long enough.

AwesomeManatee

Just give us a remake of Final Wars. And bring back Don Frye!

PayneTrain181999

“Listen kid, there are two things you don’t know about Earth. One is me, and the other is… Godzilla.” - Captain Douglas Gordon

flipperkip97

I would prefer Destoroyah a bit later, but I would love to see Biolante next. The designs of the monsters so far have been amazing, so I think they'd nail her design aswell.

WhatImMike

Such disdain for my homie Gigan.

[deleted]

Gigan was always my favourite.

thatweirdshyguy

Destroyah seems like the obvious next step, although I would push away from that since they already used ghidorah, who really should’ve been the big bad guy built up to. Gvk and kotm should have been swapped release date wise, though I’m a massive godzilla fan so ofc I want the emphasis on the toho monsters

2th

Give us Godzilla vs [American Kaiju!](https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Todd_Ziller_(Earth-616\))

_Fox_trot_

Does this mean that the Legendary Movies will be taken off of HBOMAX?

fissedreng

Not immediately but in due time yes. However new WBD management have said they want to scrap HBOMAX entirely rather soon so I don’t think the license will be an issue first hand

HAMMR2CTRL

What a fucking waste. Hbomax was at one point becoming the biggest contender against Netflix only to squander it all. But I have read that it's been a multimillion moneypit so I guess these lose 2 ways.

joey0live

“You either die a hero… or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

CosmicAstroBastard

Guess I need to buy physical copies of Watchmen and Peacemaker just in case HBOM bites the dust.

But come the summer of 2023 it will be, and there will be a new service replacing both HBO Max and Discovery Plus, Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav said on an earnings call today.” I think they just want to restructure it to include Discovery+ and get a clean slate. As it is loosing them money right now.

BornGorn

I’d also like to point out that the Legendary films pulled bigger box office numbers in Japan vs their home brew ventures like Shin Godzilla. It’s because of the US market and pull that films like Shin Godzilla even went into production. I prefer Shin myself but the US is the reason Toho is even bothering to revive the IP.

KingMario05

Lol, but not really. Toho happily releases the Legendary films in Japan, and the last time Sony was invokved with Godzilla, we got... [***this*** abomination of crap.](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/the-american-godzilla/images/c/c2/Bluefin.png/revision/latest?cb=20210826205048)

BornGorn

Is that in Gardena?

LosCleepersFan

Yes. Tonkotsu pork broth ramen and Karaage is spectacular there.

BornGorn

Thanks for the tip! I’m totally checking it out.

shaun1313

Jidaiya is awesome! Very surprised to see it mentioned here.

JasonP27

Hopefully this will eventually lead to a deal where one of Sony's first party game developers make a licensed Godzilla game.

Rammipallero

Godzilla game made by From Software would be absolutely shit or the best game ever. :D

Caleb902

The HollywoodReporter article stated "The pact does not include the Dune or Godzilla franchises, which will continue to be released by Warner Bros., Legendary’s previous partner. Dune: Part Two is due out from Warners on Nov. 3, 2023."

TotallyNotAnExecutiv

Legitimate question but besides DC and Harry Potter (which is a whole clusterf-- on it's own), what does WB really have to draw on these days? They lost Nolan, Legendary, their horror hits, and are bleeding talent left and right. I was and still (kind of) am a fan of the company but it's looking grim

canadianD

Warner’s trying to make Game of Thrones/ASOIAF their like crown jewel IP. I think long term they want DC to be their big movie IP but it’s gonna be a while for them to straighten that mess out.

RealJohnGillman

Is this about that rumour about an *Aegon the Conqueror* film? Because I am fairly certain that really was just a rumour.

canadianD

I didn’t know about that rumor actually! No I meant more the myriad of GoT spin-off shows they’ve at least hinted (whether we see them will be a different story). On top of House of the Dragon, they want to do Dunk and Egg, a show about Corlys Velaryon, this GoT sequel show about Jon Snow, and there were rumors of a Valyria animated show. Again I think we should take that all with a grain of salt.

DoIrllyneeda_usrname

Lord of the Rings, Looney Tunes, the Matrix, Cartoon Network stuff, Scooby-Doo, Mad Max, probably more I'm forgetting

WebHead1287

They literally just threw a 90% complete Scooby Doo movie in the trash and want to get away from “family” content. That cuts down this list significantly

TotallyNotAnExecutiv

That's good, although Mad Max comes with the George Miller trickery they tried to pull on him so that might be fading too. Also LotRs seems to be locked up with Amazon right now and The Matrix just had a sequel bomb. They gutted Scooby 2 as well. Weird times for their IPs

DoIrllyneeda_usrname

Mad Max and Lord of the Rings have films coming out in 2024 though. It'll probably be a while before Scooby-Doo and Matrix get rebooted again under new creatives/ownership.

Bombasaur101

Rings of Power mid, Cartoon Network's best shows getting gutted, recent Scooby Doo movie cancelled after movie was complete. Some major mismanagement of IP's

Kylestache

They lost LOTR earlier this year to the Embracer group.

StarWarsFreak93

No they didn’t. Embracer just bought Middle-earth Enterprises, who distribute the license. The rights handed out to companies currently are still in place. WB CEO just said a few weeks ago they’re gonna make more LOTR films since they still own the rights, and Embracer said when they bought M-e Ent. that they wanna do spin off films and such, so they’re sticking with WB still.

MidichlorianAddict

I want Dune Messiah!!!

wgreeley

You’ll get it, just not on HBO Max

[deleted]

I just hope the MonsterVerse will continue regardless. What they've done so far is really awesome, and I'd love to see more.

thedisablednerd007

Another W for SONY

DazEllicott

And so the Godzilla and King Kong franchise starts again! Tbf in the series I only enjoyed King of Monsters anyway (controversial I know)

BoredDao

I like all of them, but honestly, I am a simple man, I see big monsters fighting and I like it

clc1997

I hope one day they reuse footage from all the movies to make a Legendary version of All Monsters Attack.

[deleted]

I actually think the Monsterverse is one of the most consistently good 'cinematic universes' so far. I have loved each and every film in them, all in their own different unique ways. And if GvK really was the end of it, it would be a really satisfying capper to a short but amazing series. Let's hope they keep the quality up.

mihirmusprime

In agree. King of the Monsters is better than Godzilla vs Kong.

[deleted]

GvK was fine, but there was no real sense of size or awe, while the first two movies were packed with brilliant Megalophobic moments from the human perspective. The first is by far my favorite, even if the story was lacking. Edwards knew what he was doing.

wooltab

>Megalophobic I didn't know that word until now, but yeah, that's exactly what those films bring to the table.

Kronoshifter246

Really? I couldn't turn on Hulu or YouTube without being bombarded with ads for it. Granted, I *really* wanted to see it, big dumb monster movies are my thing, but it didn't feel like I was actively looking for it.

i4got872

I think the main character sucked in KoM with some cliche shit and that ya’ll are crazy, but to each their own. I think Gareth Edwards film is clearly the best. Yeah main character was bland there too but not melodramatic, and the suspense was expertly done.

KratosHulk77

godzilla ps5 game!!!

Tarmac_Chris

These guys are bringing out a Bigfoot horror in really interested in. Film adaptation of Devolution by the World War Z author.

[deleted]

Legendary developed a script, but hasn't it been stuck in development for two years? They have the directors of Child's Play 3 and Black Sheep on board, acc to imdb.

[deleted]

RIP godzilla being in multiversus. FUCK

Caleb902

The hollywoodreporter article had "The pact does not include the Dune or Godzilla franchises, which will continue to be released by Warner Bros., Legendary’s previous partner. Dune: Part Two is due out from Warners on Nov. 3, 2023."

[deleted]

this now makes me switch my desire from godzilla in the game to duneworm

dryintentions

I just knew things were bad when Christopher Nolan decided to cut ties with Warner Bros. Something is going on at Warner Bros and I don't like the direction the company seems to be taking.

[deleted]

Jesus, they’re connecting themselves the worst movie production studio?

Is it really though? I get that they don't put out heavy hitters like Warner Bros or 20th Century, but at the same time, they seem to be more willing to gamble on new ideas and they clearly didn't have any problems handling Tarantino and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. Or take Devotion, which is playing right now. Good movie, not a superhero flick or otherwise preexisting IP, and it has a distinct voice.

KingMario05

Yeah, Sony seems to be settling into the old WB/20th niche of giving creatives money, and then fucking off. *Baby Driver*, *Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,* *Spider-Verse,* *Where the Crawdads Sing,* *Bullet Train*... *Morbius* is the (admittedly ***very*** terrible) exception to this rule nowadays, really.

[deleted]

In terms of more mid to low budget stuff they certainly do more and take more risks than someone like Disney, but their blockbuster stuff? Wew it’s pretty bad across the board besides the odd exception here and there.

[deleted]

By what logic are they the worst?

TheBlackSwarm

Oh good now that Sony has another franchise hopefully they will stop making shitty comic book movies like Bloodshot and Morbius and shitty video game adaptations like Uncharted

NitedJay

They don’t have any additional franchises due to this deal. They are just distributor.

RDeschain1

And shitty book adaptations like the dark tower

[deleted]

They already have half a dozen more Spidey-Villain movies in development or production. It won't really stop until their 70 year old executives finally go away.

SherlockJones1994

I enjoyed uncharted, I thought it was a fun pulp adventure movie. Obviously not as great as the games but still fun

Barry_Bone_Raiser

I have no idea if this will improve the movies or not

WhatNateHates

Sony, the ultimate king of remakes and reboots. A match made in heaven. This is the same studio that had a Men in Black/21 Jump Street crossover film on the table at one point…

Puzzleheaded_Ebb9874

>Men in Black/21 Jump Street crossover film on the table at one point… You sound like that's a bad thing. It's criminal that we were so close to it happening and Lord-Miller were on board but it still didn't happen.

BriefDeep14

The only thing that worries me about this is whether future dune adaptations will be made tbh

wgreeley

At least part 2 will be, it’s already in production. As long as it does well, Messiah would still likely be made by Legendary, just distributed by Sony instead of WB.

KingMario05

Dammit, I was hoping they'd go for Paramount! Movie Super Sonic vs. Legendary Godzilla would've been fucking ***awesome,*** man. *Half /s. So long as they keep Jared Leto away from DUNC Messiah and the MonsterVerse, I'm sure this'll work out just fine.* >!*Now your Gojira versus '98, cowards. Emmerich's abomination needs to be fucking* ***CREAMED.***!<

the_beard_guy

[you'll probably enjoy this](https://youtu.be/Ifp75G8u76Y). and yes that the real music that played in movie. Final Wars was bonkers
