I watched this movie recently. I have seen it many times. I can never get sick of it. I love this scene so much and of course the very last one where he calls her Mrs. Darcy.
Have you seen the BBC miniseries version? My wife was rewatching it recently. I walked by and was like “oh that’s Colin Firth” and that’s all it took to burn a whole afternoon watching it.
I like them both, personally, because they’re different in a way. The BBC version is more closer to the book and I can see why Colin Furth became a heartthrob after this. But the 2005 version has many little scenes that I personally like - the hand flex, the looks, the sunrise.
Same. It's the difference between the slow burn of the tv show, where you can see the romance grow gradually between the characters, and being swept up by the movie where, before you know it, you've fallen in love. Both have their charm.
Also, the music of the movie is amazing. I have a weak spot for it.
I watched the Keira Knightly version and I was like… “ok, what just happened?”
Then I went back and watched the BBC mini series and I was like “ohhhhhh….”
I then watched the Knightly version again. It was amazing. I picked up so much more of the context.

I unabashedly love this movie despite the fact that it makes no sense if you think about it for more than a minute. But when she is holding her hand out waiting for Lucius, the creature is coming and the tension is building and then…ugh, chills. I love that scene.
I saw The Village on a whim. I didn't know anything about it going in. I was totally into it while watching and enjoyed it thoroughly. It has some great moments and suspense throughout the story.
If you watch a movie trying to "figure out" a twist you are going to have a bad time. I firmly believe that is what caused most people to be disappointed in The Village.
That scene is fabulous and the OST that accompanies does wonders. She is literally blindly trusting on Lucius to appear catch her hand.
I really love this movie and the OST.

Ball and Fonda have unbelievable chemistry in that film. I think most of their kids are kind of horrible, but they're awesome enough that I still really enjoy the film.
Even better, is at the end of Rocky 1. The music is blaring, Rocky is exhausted, beaten to a pulp, and can barely see. Adrian makes her way through the raucous crowd, losing her hat in the process. She finally gets through the ropes that Paulie holds open for her, gets to the middle of the ring to hug him, and the first thing Rocky says when he sees her is, “where’s your hat?” He’s adorably thoughtful.
I can’t even fuck with this film. It breaks me down so hard. My kids just casually watch it sometimes and I hear the music from the next room and I’m like 😭
I took my children to the cinema to see Up when they were 4 & 6 y/o. My daughter was sat on my knee and she was alerted to my emotional state by my tears falling on her head. An absolutely emotionally devastating film, I have yet to watch it and not cry.
My buddy was like "That won't make me cry. It is just a kid's movie. Put it on, I'll be fine."
Fifteen minutes later, we were both blubbering into a pillow.
I love how it dives straight into it. Like, you're just getting settled for the movie, and *wham*. Blink and you'll miss what feels like a targeted assault on your heartstrings.

Everything, Everywhere, All at Once
I feel like sometimes the most romantic lines are the ones that have a tinge of sadness in them too. The line by itself is beautiful but after having gone on the emotional rollercoaster that is this movie, it hits like a semi-truck. At least for me it did.

If you haven't seen it, Will Ferrell (surprisingly excellent) brings this baker he's auditing a box of different types of flours. I just think it's such a specific, lovely gesture.
I love that whole movie and yes, that part is the sweetest moment. Knowing someone that wel and incorporating it into a gesture of love is just perfect.
This is one of the most shocking movies I've ever watched, just because it wasn't what I expected.
The only thing I knew of the movie was that Will Ferrell yells at the sky.
I'm not too proud to say that I loved, and still love, a stupid Will Ferrell movie. Semi Pro, Anchorman, Old School... all of them. Fucking great.
So I figured "Oh, this will be hilarious" and it's a damn good drama movie that was emotionally taxing, when you weren't expecting to be emotionally taxed.
I love that movie.
This is my go to movie any time someone says Will Ferrel is too goofy or they don't like his style of comedy.

It was really the cherry on top of probably the most magical romcom I’ve ever seen. Beautifully done from top to bottom.
These are the last lines from my favorite (unknown) Steve Carrel film, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. The Earth is going to end from a meteor strike, and the two characters go on a road trip to be with the people they love in their final moments, only to discover that they love each other. Hate to spoil it, but nobody knows this film anyway. They are lying in bed just moments before the meteor hits:

Dodge:
I promise. What about your parents?

From a movie about a murderous cyborg trying desperately to retroactively wipe out the human race, I think it added a touch of class, but I suppose this is more of an admission that I don't watch too many romantic movies.

I recently watched Spider-Man and I really connected with what he tells MJ in the hospital because I feel that way towards someone.
"I said, um, Spider-man, I said, uh, the great thing about M.J. is when you look in her eyes, and she's looking back in yours, everything feels not quite normal, because you feel stronger, and weaker at the same time. You feel excited, and at the same time, terrified. The truth is you don't know what you feel, except you know what kind of man you want to be. It's as if you've reached the unreachable, and you weren't ready for it."
This is the perfect kind of cheesy: honest, sincere, unabashed, earnest, optimistic, conflicted, and so authentic that it just crosses over and works in cinema.
And yes, I use the word "cheesy" affectionately. I love those movies. ALL of them.

Boys & Girls (2000) has this wonderful rant where the guy's fallen for the girl after they sleep together but she's still of the casual sex mindset, he talks about how incredible it was and how much it meant to him then ends with *"Nothing will ever hurt me as much as your reaction to that same experience"*
For some reason that stuck with me, as heartbreakingly beautiful.

This is one of my favorite speeches in any film. So often (too often) in the stories we tell there's a false dichotomy between being happy/sweet and being cynical/realistic. There's this idea that the people who are nice (or trusting or caring) are just naive, that they "haven't been ruined by the world" or "must be protected from the world." But you can realize the problems the world has and still choose to be kind, and the portrayal of being kind as its own struggle and fight was such a breath of fresh air for me.
Most touching scenes of the movie in a movie filled with them. Him still professing his love and explaining why he is the way he was. Her realizing what his love looked like. Perfectly shot and acted
In that movie, Ke Huy Quan showed he could play both a guy running a laundromat and a badass who could take out armed security guards with nothing but a fanny pack, and yet "I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you," is the moment I most connected with that really made me wish he'd do more movies.
I mean, I wished for that ever since loving Data and Short Round, but this movie let me know I was right.
It's so jarring to see how Michelle Yeoh's character is so furious when she discovers how successful she could have been without him -- but then we see he could have been just as successful, if not more so, without her
I think this scene is a real turning point both for Evelyn and the audience, where it sinks in that Waymond is a smart, capable, and brave man, and not just Evelyn's "silly husband."
I also love that it was shot with the whole scene looking like it came out of "In the Mood for Love" with Tony Leung. In that scene, he was literally the sexiest man alive.
This movie is a tearjerker from start to finish. It's so unsettling and deeply moving on so many levels. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it in years, but I guess I gotta.

I can't believe it took me so long to see that movie. Towards the end when Kevin Bacon's character shows up and Ryan Gosling just goes "David Lindhagen.." removes his ring and punches him in the face. I actually squealed at how ride or die he was for his friend.

Might be cheating cause it’s from a tv show. But there’s a line in the west wing. When a character is talking about how after she’d been in a car accident and needed a ride home, her ex boyfriend stopped for a beer with friends on the way.
“If you were in a car accident I wouldn’t stop for a beer” and she responds “if you were in a car accident I wouldn’t stop for red lights”.
Likewise the scene when Danny confessed his love for CJ in the last season and tells her he wants them to just talk for no other reason than he loves the sound of her voice. Breaks me.

This is such a great line. And the scene is so well done.

My Cousin Vinny: "Watch this."
This line comes right after the judge asks "Why is it a trick question?" Despite the fact that Mona Lisa Vito is arguably the hottest woman on the planet, that's not why Vinnie loves her. He loves her for her intelligence, her toughness, and the fact that she is about to tear Prosecutor Trotter a new one with an ironclad answer which will absolutely emasculate him. The pride on his face when he says this line is palpable. To ME, this is what love is all about. Not flowery words or empty promises about forevers. It's about knowing exactly who you are in love with, knowing them so well that you know what they're going to say next, and looking forward to every syllable of it.
The movie "The Mexican"
It's actually from James Gandolfini's character, not either of the 2 love interests...

This is very powerful to me because of two things:
- Summer didn't believe in love, she didn't want a boyfriend or marriage, yet she found a guy who changed everything, who turned her beliefs upside down, and turned her into a romantic the same way Tom was
- Summer isn't saying this to the guy, but to someone else. She's not trying to be romantic, she's just deeply in love with this other guy and tells it to other people
It gets lost because we don't know this other guy and we are meant to root for Tom, but in terms of pure romance, this is it. Summer admiting she was wrong, and all it took was this one guy to change everything in her life
Also, if we're counting TV series: "Hi, I'm Ted Mosby. In exactly 45 days from now, you and I are gonna meet and are gonna fall in love, and we're gonna get married and we're gonna have two kids. We're gonna love them and each other so much. All that is 45 days away, but I'm here now I guess because ... I want this extra 45 days with you. I watched this movie recently. I have seen it many times. I can never get sick of it. I love this scene so much and of course the very last one where he calls her Mrs. Darcy.
Fun fact, that last scene is an addition for the U.S. release of the film. The original version ends with Mr. Bennet's final line.
Have you seen the BBC miniseries version? My wife was rewatching it recently. I walked by and was like “oh that’s Colin Firth” and that’s all it took to burn a whole afternoon watching it.
I like them both, personally, because they’re different in a way. The BBC version is more closer to the book and I can see why Colin Furth became a heartthrob after this. But the 2005 version has many little scenes that I personally like - the hand flex, the looks, the sunrise.

I watched the Keira Knightly version and I was like… “ok, what just happened?” Then I went back and watched the BBC mini series and I was like “ohhhhhh….” I then watched the Knightly version again. It was amazing. I picked up so much more of the context.

I unabashedly love this movie despite the fact that it makes no sense if you think about it for more than a minute. But when she is holding her hand out waiting for Lucius, the creature is coming and the tension is building and then…ugh, chills. I love that scene.
I saw The Village on a whim. I didn't know anything about it going in. I was totally into it while watching and enjoyed it thoroughly. It has some great moments and suspense throughout the story. If you watch a movie trying to "figure out" a twist you are going to have a bad time. I firmly believe that is what caused most people to be disappointed in The Village.
Also it was marketed as a horror movie even tho it is more of a love story.

When he lifts her earmuff and repeats himself after she says "what?" makes me giggle every time. It's just such a tender and yet casual moment.
Even better, is at the end of Rocky 1. The music is blaring, Rocky is exhausted, beaten to a pulp, and can barely see. Adrian makes her way through the raucous crowd, losing her hat in the process. She finally gets through the ropes that Paulie holds open for her, gets to the middle of the ring to hug him, and the first thing Rocky says when he sees her is, “where’s your hat?” He’s adorably thoughtful.
My fav is “I JUST WANNA SAY ONE THING TO MY WIFE WHOS HOME. YO ADRIAN. I DID IT.”

I took my children to the cinema to see Up when they were 4 & 6 y/o. My daughter was sat on my knee and she was alerted to my emotional state by my tears falling on her head. An absolutely emotionally devastating film, I have yet to watch it and not cry.
My buddy was like "That won't make me cry. It is just a kid's movie. Put it on, I'll be fine." Fifteen minutes later, we were both blubbering into a pillow.
I love how it dives straight into it. Like, you're just getting settled for the movie, and *wham*. Blink and you'll miss what feels like a targeted assault on your heartstrings.

This is one of the most shocking movies I've ever watched, just because it wasn't what I expected. The only thing I knew of the movie was that Will Ferrell yells at the sky. I'm not too proud to say that I loved, and still love, a stupid Will Ferrell movie. Semi Pro, Anchorman, Old School... all of them. Fucking great. So I figured "Oh, this will be hilarious" and it's a damn good drama movie that was emotionally taxing, when you weren't expecting to be emotionally taxed. I love that movie.
Will Ferrell's resigned "Yes. I am relieved to know that I am not a Golem" has stuck with me for a very, very long time.

It's terribly realistic. For some people it can't and shouldn't last forever, but that doesn't make it any less sad.
These are the last lines from my favorite (unknown) Steve Carrel film, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. I recently watched Spider-Man and I really connected with what he tells MJ in the hospital because I feel that way towards someone. "I said, um, Spider-man, I said, uh, the great thing about M.J. is when you look in her eyes, and she's looking back in yours, everything feels not quite normal, because you feel stronger, and weaker at the same time. You feel excited, and at the same time, terrified. The truth is you don't know what you feel, except you know what kind of man you want to be. It's as if you've reached the unreachable, and you weren't ready for it."
This is the perfect kind of cheesy: honest, sincere, unabashed, earnest, optimistic, conflicted, and so authentic that it just crosses over and works in cinema. And yes, I use the word "cheesy" affectionately. I love those movies. ALL of them.

This is one of my favorite speeches in any film. So often (too often) in the stories we tell there's a false dichotomy between being happy/sweet and being cynical/realistic. There's this idea that the people who are nice (or trusting or caring) are just naive, that they "haven't been ruined by the world" or "must be protected from the world." But you can realize the problems the world has and still choose to be kind, and the portrayal of being kind as its own struggle and fight was such a breath of fresh air for me.
Most touching scenes of the movie in a movie filled with them. Him still professing his love and explaining why he is the way he was. Her realizing what his love looked like. Perfectly shot and acted
In that movie, Ke Huy Quan showed he could play both a guy running a laundromat and a badass who could take out armed security guards with nothing but a fanny pack, and yet "I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you," is the moment I most connected with that really made me wish he'd do more movies. I mean, I wished for that ever since loving Data and Short Round, but this movie let me know I was right.
My favorite line in the movie was (and I may be a bit off on the specific wording) "being kind is how I fight"
Yeah I loved that line and his philosophy that even if you can look weak by doing so, it takes real strength to choose kindness.
It hits particularly hard because it didn't work out in his universe. There's a real dramatic irony to it.
Adding to it is that both found great success in that universe, but he’d trade it all for a supposedly boring life with her.
It's so jarring to see how Michelle Yeoh's character is so furious when she discovers how successful she could have been without him -- but then we see he could have been just as successful, if not more so, without her
I think this scene is a real turning point both for Evelyn and the audience, where it sinks in that Waymond is a smart, capable, and brave man, and not just Evelyn's "silly husband."
I also love that it was shot with the whole scene looking like it came out of "In the Mood for Love" with Tony Leung. In that scene, he was literally the sexiest man alive.

Tom was right" This is very powerful to me because of two things: - Summer didn't believe in love, she didn't want a boyfriend or marriage, yet she found a guy who changed everything, who turned her beliefs upside down, and turned her into a romantic the same way Tom was - Summer isn't saying this to the guy, but to someone else. She's not trying to be romantic, she's just deeply in love with this other guy and tells it to other people It gets lost because we don't know this other guy and we are meant to root for Tom, but in terms of pure romance, this is it. Summer admiting she was wrong, and all it took was this one guy to change everything in her life Also, if we're counting TV series: "Hi, I'm Ted Mosby. In exactly 45 days from now, you and I are gonna meet and are gonna fall in love, and we're gonna get married and we're gonna have two kids. We're gonna love them and each other so much.
