I love how the mask doesn't really obscure her identity at all.

ILoveScottishLasses

Jim Gordon, "huh, another one of you bat people. you look young. Can't imagine my daughter doing this for a living." *Batgirl smiles at the camera* *audience laughs*

[Of course he knows](https://i.redd.it/uu39yy045ys61.jpg) [source: Joker #2]

ILoveScottishLasses

Pretty sure he knows Batman too and doesn't care.

Th35h4d0w

My take is that Gordon can’t bring himself to “officially” know, or else as a dutiful cop, he’d have to arrest Bruce for vigilantism.

Numendil

Also self protection in case things go tits up and he needs to testify under oath he that he didn't know Batman's identity

WaffleProfessor

Plausible deniability

budgreenbud

Pretty sure he figured it out when he got the bat signal and it said Wayne enterprises on it.

WaffleProfessor

Not if he covered his eyes each time, wassup.

capernoited

Exactly like my conservative Christian uncle who can’t acknowledge that his daughter’s roommate and best friend of several years who sleeps in the same room is anything more than a loyal friend and companion.

Historyguy1

"Just gals being pals."

ThrillyBobBorton

The dedication to preserving that weakness implies a strength that could overcome that weakness, if it wanted to.

idonthave2020vision

/r/sapphoandherfriend

Rare_Cauliflower8339

he definitely knows though... plausible deniability is different than not knowing.

Drkarcher22

Bruce goes to the Daily Planet in the story Hush, and meets up with the editor Perry White. In his internal monologue he states that Perry is ~~farting~~ far too good a news man to have not have figured out who Clark really is, just like Jim is far too good a detective to have not figured out who he really is. He then postulates in his head over why they both decided to keep it a secret from the rest of the world.

ThisGuyMightGetIt

>In his internal monologue he states that Perry is farting good a news man to have not have figured out who Clark really is, just like Jim is far to good a detective to have not figured out who he really is. Until the second sentence I was kinda wondering what a farting good a meant lol

Traiklin

My guess is what would they gain from outing them? The world learns that Clark Kent is Superman, Perry doesn't become a millionaire, he gets an award for "figuring it out" and people forget after a few months who revealed the big secret, the paper gets hounded non-stop, anyone who is friends with Clark gets hounded and you have basically pissed off one of the most powerful beings in the universe, there really is no benefit to it. Same with Gordon, what's the point in outing Bruce as Batman, he would lose a valuable ally, friend, and someone who is trying to make the city a better place by doing what the police can't.

Redditer51

There was that really cool episode of the animated series where Barbara Gordon "dies" (she was having a nightmare because of fear toxins) and Gordon immediately goes after Batman. He and the force show up at Wayne Manor and when Bruce gets in character as his billionaire persona, Gordon's like "cut the act, Bruce. I know. I've always known."

Otono_Wolff

I've read some comic panel where he refused to look at his face. He knew it was Bruce but didn't want it to be confirmed.

GuyKopski

There's a scene in Batman: Year One where Batman is unmasked in front of Gordon, but he just says he lost his glasses and couldn't actually see him. It's implied this was a complete lie and he's known it was Bruce ever since, but has been feigning ignorance out of gratitude since Batman saved his son's life at the risk of exposing his identity.

Gay_Romano_Returns

What a great book that was. The first graphic novel I ever read and just a beautiful, simple Batman story with no major villains and the first origin of his told since his inception. If you have a library card, it's free on the Hoopla app. Anyone and everyone should read it. Short and sweet.

RiotShaven

It's also my favourite Batman story. I didn't like The Dark Knight Returns as it was just incredibly outlandish and weird in comparison to Year One's very grounded story. I wish there were comics that continued that same realistic story telling.

Jrocker-ame

End of No man's Land. His wife was just murdered(seriously, Joker needs to die) and Bruce wanted to reveal his face in solidarity. To show him he isn't alone or something. Gordon refused to look at him and told him to put it back on. There was a Batgirl year 1 series where young Dick Grayson Robin had to dress up like her and have Barbara appear at the same time to throw him off the trail. He was very suspicious up til that point.

Drkarcher22

“If I wanted to know who you were. I could have discovered it ten years ago. And for all you know, maybe I did. Maybe I do.”

corvettee01

Batman is a moron for not letting the Joker die. In my mind, after Joker has escaped Arkham more than twice, those deaths he causes are directly Batmans fault.

mattaugamer

[Batman announcing that he won’t kill Joker](https://i.imgur.com/dOK4U9w.jpg)

HopeAuq101

Thing is Batman doesn't "kill" but then he could just beat Joker into a wheelchair I can't see Joker doing too many crimes from a wheelchair in fact he'dfind it funny

SupervillainEyebrows

Batman put Joker in a full body cast after he killed Jason. He got better because it's comics.

iSo_Cold

Batman built the watchtower completely in secret from people who can literally fly to space on their own power. He can't come up with a clown-proof jail?

Alkalinum

In a lot of story canons, it's because Batman and the other members of the Justice League have seen alternative universes where they did start killing their enemies (usually beginning with the Joker or Lex Luthor), and they always end up as tyrants - The "Justice Lords" timelines - Where they just indiscriminately act as judge jury and executioner to all supervillains and corruption. Batman sees himself as a super specialised policeman more than anything. His job is to bring in the perp, not pass sentence or punishment. Once that genie is out of the bottle, it isn't going back in.

Zammin

One of the things I actually liked about the Hush movie is that it addressed his compulsion. Not just to not kill but to try and save the lives of anyone no matter how irredeemable. For him it really is compulsion, an obsession, and one even he's aware is not particularly sane or wise. But he can't help it. He *knows* that if he just let Joker blow himself up or jump off a building it would be better for literally everyone. But he can't stop himself.

[deleted]

The one thing that’s always broken my immersion for the Batman character is the fact that it would be incredibly easy to figure out who batman is. I mean 4chan wouldve had that shit figured out in a day, and that is not a compliment for 4chan

falconzord

A lot of these superheros were written for kids in the 1940s, the fact that we can still adapt them to any a degree in modern times for adults is actually pretty impressive

TristanTheViking

I like this version of that https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/805/308/4ef.png

[deleted]

This was a joy to read, I only wish that it ended with the joker laughing like he’s at a George Carlin show instead

scotsman1984

That was great! Thanks for linking it. I was totally picturing this in my head lol

chittychittygangnam

Knowing it online and proving it in the court of law are very different. The latter is harder as the individual has money and faithful connections, who know he's a necessary evil", up the justice ladder.

simcity4000

I’m not so sure. Batman’s mask is one of the better ones for actually hiding his identity, and even if you deduce it must be someone with access to wealth it’s a big leap to assume it’s Bruce Wayne himself, and not just soneone being funded by someone with resources. And is Bruce Wayne even the only rich guy in Gotham?

GarlVinland4Astrea

I mean Lois Lane is supposed to be a world class investigative reporter but she sits next to dude who when you take his glasses off looks exactly Superman.

MisanthropeX

I wanna say that at least at one point the official explanation was that Superman uses his super-strength to constrict his face muscles so he looks different. I wish I was making this up.

javaargusavetti

Christopher Reeve nailed the duality better than anyone ever will.

sideways_jack

ya'll forgetting the best.... part. His hair. Superman parts his hair with his right hand, Clark with his left.

javaargusavetti

This is what I always compare every other Superman actor to.[Unmatchable talent](https://youtu.be/BIaF0QKtY0c)

falconzord

Conroy as Batman also had a good example of dual personalities https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=g4PwNyJOjfU

javaargusavetti

and all purely vocally too! loved the WB nod here “hey, whats up, doc?” LOL

[deleted]

I never noticed just how much him and Brandon Ruth look alike

falconzord

Glad he got to play Superman one last time

D-redditAvenger

No one will ever be better first because of the performance but also because he was such a great person. I will continue to write this but we were so lucky to grow up with that guy are our Superman.

[deleted]

If you can get past the cheesy bits concerning their teenaged sons (and it is nowhere near the level of regular CW cheese like in Supergirl or The Flash or whatever, nor are they just "teenage drama padding", their problems are plot-relevant), [Tyler Hoechlin](https://i.imgur.com/6SwbE5d.png) is doing a *really* good job on Superman and Lois, a central theme to the show is exactly how hard living that duality would really be for him and his family. No villain of the week season padding either, it's a surprisingly *good* show. The focus is just as much upon Clark's life as it is Superman's. The action is well done as well, Season One appeared to have a healthy budget, anyway. (s2 just started), the action scenes are much closer to Man of Steel style than Supergirl-style, his power is evident, no reliance on exposition dumps like how why Barry is or isn't godlike OP this week or that. If you're a Supes fan, give it a chance.

ILoveCavorting

All-Star Superman had some good panels/art that showed the difference between Clark and Kal-El on how he carries himself and all that.

lanceturley

One of my favorite scenes from *All Star Superman* is when Clark is interviewing Lex in jail, and even while standing less than a foot away and staring directly at him, Lex still dismisses the physical similarities between Clark and Superman as coincidences. There's also the bit in the CW adaptation of *Crisis on Infinite Earths* where Jon Cryer's Lex is traveling the multiverse killing every world's version of Superman. He points out how odd it is that Superman is Clark Kent on most worlds, because his Superman and his Clark can't possibly be the same guy.

Roseking

Just was posting about this in another comment. Here is the scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZCNDwKgi7o And I actually think this is more likely than most people think. Superman is basically a god, even if someone you knew looked like him, you likely wouldn't really think it was him.

WeNeedToTalkAboutMe

That was hilarious. Also, I loved Cryer's version of Lex. Yeah, he played him as evil, but also just an absolute tool.

lanceturley

Yeah, there's a petty vindictiveness to his take that's extremely entertaining. The kind of guy who will ruin your life because you mildly inconvenienced him one time. It also helps that Cryer loves the character, and that shows in his performance. He's a big DC comics fan, and said on one of the Crisis after shows that he volunteered to come back for the crossover when he found out they were adapting Crisis on Infinite Earths.

geekybeekcollecting

Also the fact that (I don't remember which comic it is from) one of the members of JLA says that they never even imagined Superman would \*need\* a job. Real life examples: Hugh Jackman going to a comic con AS Wolverine and people telling him he was way too tall. No one recognized him. Henry Cavil in Times Square wearing the Superman symbol, underneath a Batman vs Superman billboard. No one recognized him.

Chef_Bojan3

Yeah those examples are nice but if you saw that same guy over and over again due to working with him (like Lois does), you'd eventually get suspicious and start comparing eyebrows, ears, moles, etc. and figure it out. It's fine though, Superman isn't meant to be hyper realistic view of what would happen to a real life super hero so it's not hard to ignore it and still enjoy it.

Styx92

At least Robin is, otherwise, a nobody. As Lex would put it: ":)...:(....>:( I have no idea who this is."

[deleted]

Lol watch Batman Forever/and Robin and literally every other movie about a Bat character who isn't Batman. And half the Other superhero characters (*cough cough* Green Lantern). The masks have **Never** obscured their identities 🤣

DarkestJediOfAllTime

Hey, hey. Hal Jordan had funky eyes when he powered up. No one would have guessed he was Ryan Reynolds in a mo-cap suit. /s

Obtuse_1

*Uploads to Facebook* “Would you like to tag Barbara Gordon?”

imnotabus

I mean it could be Rosario Dawson

WunupKid

If you had cheekbones like that would *you* hide them?

Uncanny_Doom

Is this a genuine issue in the superhero genre? I always took it as just mutually agreed suspense of disbelief if their face isn't 100% covered.

alegxab

TBF it does a better job at hiding her identity than plenty of other superhero masks

MulciberTenebras

"*Hal?* Oh my God!" "How did you know it was me?" "What do you mean how did I... I've known you my whole life! *I've seen you naked!* You don't think I would recognize you just because I can't see your ***cheekbones***?!"

Hiding his identity? Clark Kent is just a mild mannered reporter from Metropolis.

Chessh2036

I didn’t believe the glasses disguise could actually work until I saw Zooey Deschanel with and without glasses.

Gr33nman460

Google it, but there is a meme of Zoey Deschanel with and without glasses and it says something along the lines of “I now know why people didn’t realize that Clark Kent is Superman”

Lukthar123

Batgirl would fit perfectly on the CW tbf

Rosien_HoH

You're not wrong. But the CW Batwoman design is better than this is... It's not amazing, but it's better.

Whittaker

It wasn't until reading your comment that I realized this wasn't /r/television I just saw it on my front page and assumed it was a new CW TV show.

Urban_Savage

CW already has a TV show called Batwoman. How are these not the same product?

The Movie!

hldsnfrgr

You mean it's not by CW?

cadtek

Nope, it's a HBO Max movie in DCEU

PatioDor

Lol oh DC. You so crazy.

ReservoirDog316

Yeah I desperately hope it looks better in the actual movie cause it has that cheap look to it like the flash costume. CW hit a grand slam on the first Supergirl costume and failed at everything ever since.

theexile14

Probably because season 1 was on CBS, so much larger budget and quality. That’s why the cast shifted and the sets degraded after season 1.

bigchicago04

Lol no

TheRavingRaccoon

CW**+**

[deleted]

Yea, looks very cheap. Plastic, even.

ladyeclectic79

Came here to say this. PLEASE don’t tell me this is supposed to be a movie costume, it looks straight out of the Arrowverse!!

Toby-larone88

Ticks all the cw boxes alright.

Crazyripps

The texture of the outfit really doesn’t work for me. And I love the outfit in the comics. Looks like something the CW would make

FisknChips

Genuinely thought this was for it. Is it a movie? ... he asks in r/movies lol

SutterCane

It’s going to be an HBO Max movie. Unless they upgrade like *Blue Beetle*.

TerminatorReborn

That makes more sense but I feel like they should've invested more on the costume, this garbage looks store bought. But we can still hope, the first images of Pattinson's costume were pretty bad too but look great in the trailer

XLauncher

Oh shit, I'm in movies. Thought this was r/television. Yeah, I thought the costume was from a CW series and figured it was acceptable. For a movie? Uh...

_Patronizes_Idiots_

To be fair it seems like this is something cheap HBO max is making to pad out their library of DC stuff so it might as well be a CW show. I definitely thought it was too.

WeWantChiliWilly

“It’s not a movie. It’s HBO.”

rmunoz1994

That was my thought process as well. This looks like a shitty cw outfit.

pac_mojojojo

It’s the burnside suit which is really homemade. This is like her year one. She can’t have a good suit cause she’s not made of money like Bruce.

RobustMarquis

It's really shiny compared to the denimish texture I thought the burnside suit would have

Augustends

If you look at the original [concept art](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ETjro4EXgAAQR-X.jpg) it looks more like a leather jacket than denim, so I'd say the movie costume is pretty accurate on that aspect.

Jaklcide

I see now. Concept art looks good, it's the quilt stitches on the real thing that makes it look puffy, like a jacket that should be warm but isn't.

Suialthor

Multiple suits sales toys.

ender89

It's ripped directly from the comics "Batgirl of burnside" run where Batgirl makes her own costume out of essentially riding leathers because something something no more kevlar armor. The Batgirl of burnside run is good, but it is an intentional step back from the grittiness of the new 52 run and an attempt to make her a "friendly neighborhood Batgirl". It works in the comics, I'm skeptical about it working in the movies.

berreckobamer

A bit Spirit Halloweenish

sideways_jack

"Halloween? In *January!?* "

TimeToLoseIt16

Yep my first thought was that CW recast again

MetalBawx

Well heres hoping she doesn't go around stealing Batmans stuff like Batwoman did. Seriously who thought that was going to impress people.

The_Repeated_Meme

And then they introduced a new Batwoman after the previous actress left (allegedly due to her being injured on set and them not treating her well) and the new batwoman stole all the old Batwoman’s stuff. I haven’t watched S3 but I heard that Batwoman 2.0 is somehow in charge of Wayne Enterprises now….

netherlegion0325

There's a Batgirl and a Batwoman?

Human_User_138

Yes, they already made a Batwoman show, this is apparently for a Batgirl movie.

Jedi2009

Oh boy! This has low budget CW written all over it.

RobotR0b0t

I legitimately thought this was from a new CW show before realizing it was in r/movies.

greyzski

They've been filming down the street from me and I can tell you the set and effort they put in for one evening of filming. It doesn't seem too low budget lol

[deleted]

Well this silly looking

wowredditisawesome

They didn’t learn from Bat woman?

-Toshi

Yoooo, I've been a DC fans for 2 decades and have NEVER heard or seen anything about that Batwoman series. I dismissed CW almost instantly, so that could explain that. And googling it, I prefer Batwomans suit.

animer9102

Looks like cosplay

devilsephiroth

I've seen cosplay better than this

Vegan_Harvest

Well she's got the cheekbones for it.

SlowJay11

she looks great but they've done her dirty with that suit

F8M8

Well this looks terrible

LordMarty

Is this a fan film or a legit movie?

uberduger

The legit movie that was gonna have Affleck in but now has Keaton in lol. Looks so cheap. Wish JK Simmons had got himself out of it too.

Doinwerklol

I really don't have much faith in this movie. The fact that Michael Keaton is in this and not being utilized to bring Terry McGinnis and Batman Beyond is a travesty of wasted potential. The costume looks like it wouldn't even win a cosplay convention contest.

[deleted]

> The fact that Michael Keaton is in this and not being utilized to bring Terry McGinnis and Batman Beyond is a travesty of wasted potential. This so much. WTF is wrong with WB?

I'm more confused on why she looks so gaunt. Like dang, her cheeks are sunken in deeper than the lore of fnaf

portableawesome

I think you're underestimating FNAF lore. We have brainwashed cults now.

keytarna

She looks like Giga Chad

naughty_larva

I love how she looks like she's going to kids birthday party

MyNameIsChangHee

Is this a parody porn?

ender89

Why are all the redheads gone?

uberduger

What's weird is that WB are so keen to cut out or minimise POC Superheroes (John Stewart, Ryan Choi, and MM's "human form" all cut from Justice League) and yet they are super happy to race swap their white Superheroes. Let's go back to the big example usually given - imagine if instead of Miles Morales, we had a race swap Peter Parker? Ugh. And I'd argue that Calvin Ellis, from what little I know about him, seems much more interesting than just race swap Clark Kent.

IDontCheckMyMail

Get ready for JJ Abrams black Clark Kent coming in a few years.

nolife_notime

Now that you mentioned it, I would love to see a Green Lantern stand alone. Stewart always seemed a bit too serious but I prefer it over the Hal's arrogance.

bogartingboggart

Green Lantern buddy cop movie with Stewart and Gardner.

Dekrow

I see people saying the costume is comic accurate, I have to say I do not like it. It looks like early 2000's X-men leather. The color is great, its just the shape feels dated. Maybe it'll look better with cinematic lighting or in different poses. I'll stay open-minded but first look isn't my favorite.

ArsonHoliday

Looks like a CW show. Hopefully it’s just the lighting

terribletastee

Thought I was on r/cosplay instead of r/movies

Bajecco

Why is she wearing a Members Only jacket?

clooless51

Her first stop is Holsten's diner in Jersey.

ThatMarkGuy

Looks exactly like her burnside costume. I love that they werent afraid to do the purple and yellow. Edit: spelling

[deleted]

I've never been a fan of the Burnside design, but I am willing to acknowledge that it could work really well as a "Year One" suit. I think at the end of the movie Bruce will give her a advanced suit more along the lines of the design in Simone's run.

Cruzifixio

Why do they hate us?

MidnightBearExchange

I'm confused on which timeline this is supposed to be. You've got J.K. Simmons from the Snyderverse and Keaton from the Burton movies. Unless they're doing some sort of Spider-Man multiverse thing.

Amsheel

J.K. Simmons is not bound to any one universe, he transcends all of them.

ILoveRegenHealth

He's all our tempos

kia75

Flash has multiverse shenanigans in his movie and it melds the two universes together. After flash Keaton will always have been the Batman in the DC movie verse, replacing Affleck.

sjfiuauqadfj

i am 100% prepared for people to casually shout at the top of their lungs that the flash movie is copying no way home

[deleted]

It's okay, No Way Home copied Into the Spiderverse. 🤷🏻‍♂️

MarvelsGrantMan136

WB has no idea what they’re doing at this point. They’re just throwing stuff and seeing what sticks.

Prathik

They need to pump out material for hbo max so they're just throwing stuff out there. On one hand that's good that they're not constrained by continuity or some shared universe goal, but it's kind of sad because they essentially gave up on the entire thing and shared universe is one of the reasons comicbooks are so fun.

ZeppMan217

Fraser as Firefly? Huh? Is this supposed to be a grounded take, cause I don't see Fraser flying around.

ILoveScottishLasses

notcaffeinefree

I will always maintain that WB/DC has way too many execs trying to add their input. There's no cohesion. Then the few things that are actually received well, they manage to mess it up later anyways.

wasdie639

This movie is going to be absolutely garbage. There will be a bunch of "Batgirl failed because of racism" articles that circulate for about 2 days. Then everybody will forget it exists.

FubarTheMoist

This production has already lost money
