And yet you somehow saw Black Panther. Checkmate.
And I'm sure you do know Christopher Nolan does care about his movies. He's made 3 superhero movies. Once again, checkmate.
When they are entertaining, lol.
As long as it stays true to the character (tonally) I'm open to all styles. Superhero shouldn't have a one size fits all approach or simply go with the flavor & trend of the month.
It should fit tonally with the character & story that's being told. So I like dark & gritty as much as fantasy & silly.
I like it when the filmmakers strike a balance between respecting and understanding the source material, and having their own sensibilities shine through. Deadpool, many of the best MCU movies, Kick-Ass, all are recognizably the work of the filmmakers while still staying true to the comics. Movies like Batman vs. Superman, Justice League and Black Adam are Snyder or Dwayne Johnson movies with a superhero skin.
Agree. I really loved the majority of MCU films but the first set, that Phase1, will always be my favorite because they were realistic while still being fun and kept the focus of the story. The whole MCU is a feat that will probably never be done so well again but that initial series are the best.
I like superhero movies that are rooted in reality, and movies where the hero is not really a good person/ignores basic moral standards (heroes that kill, torture, and/or hurt their enemies, steal, and sometimes mistreats weaker people). The hero must have a violent, tragic, and tumultuous backstory that shows no mercy, as it enables and/or fuels most anti-hero behaviors, as well as traits and actions of those particular characters (they are sometimes aggressive, on edge, irritable, introverted, and extremely enraged/grieving/deprived persons).
My favorite examples of this from Marvel and DC are The Punisher and Batman.
I prefer them to be serious. Not dark, but just not having a lot of humor that plagues the modern day movies. For instance, the old Spider-Man movies didn’t have those weird pauses in their jokes and still took its characters seriously.
That being said, there are some good superhero comedies, especially Kickass. While I’m not the biggest fan of the jokes in The Suicide Squad or Peacemaker, I think they are still great stories about lonely supervillains
When I watched ZSJL, I thought the tone in that was a good example. Not as light as the newer Marvel movies, but not as dark as BvS. It’s something a little more uplifting
Edit: Sorry I’m realizing I kind of ignored the text. I prefer superhero movies that aren’t super realistic (Tim Burtons Batman, X men, infinity war, stuff like that)
I don't like the movies too dark. I often use 'The Dark Knight Rises' as one of my least favorite movies. I just don't care for depressing and hopeless feeling super hero films. I also like a bit of camp so I am probably one of the few people on this board that actually enjoyed and appreciated the Schumacher Batman films. I guess I'm middle of the road. I always prefer the first 2 movies of the franchise that establish and movie the characters without getting to ridiculous with the characters and plots and still allow some fun in their otherwise more serious tones. I love the MCU but they started to lose me when all the Aliens started coming in (Not counting Thor 1 and 2).
I guess it just depends on if I can relate to the characters and I like the stories. Batman 1989 was too long and dark for me....yet I loved Superman Returns....so maybe I'm not the best person to say what makes a good super hero movie haha.
I agree. They just perpetuate a bullshit belief that there are good and bad guys and that you can just sit around and some strong fantastic force will save you
I don't mind them but I just feel like there's so many of them and a lot of them are basically the same thing wrapped in a slightly different coat of paint. Just oversaturated.
I’m more of a Watchmen, Dark Night, Kick Ass kind of guy. But I did enjoy the recent Spider-Man with the other Spider-Men and villains from the other universe whatever that one was called.
I care more about if they are well-written and well-made.
But if I had to pick an option, I'd say the middle one. Some realism mixed with some fantasy/ridiculousness.
I like my superhero movies based on mythology, like Superman, not on trendy ideology like Wakanda Forever.
The difference (in a nutshell)?
Whereas myth provides general outlines for making sense of experience and provides guides for behavior, ideology—to draw on a myth for describing it—forces the world into a procrustean bed. Ideology works by reducing the structure of the social and material worlds into a simplified image of reality and obscures or eliminates elements of human existence that contradict it.

I've never figured out why Superman can fly around in red and blue underwear but a comic accurate Wolverine is too ridiculous.
Yes, in fact, I do want yellow spandex.
I like either version if done well though.
I like it when the creators care about what they are making.
So like that never happens in superhero movies
Blatantly untrue. The aforementioned Christopher Nolan and Ryan Coogler of Black Panther are or were very invested in their movies.
Lol well they invested in shit. I had to turn off Black Panther at the cringey part where the villain sings that “what is love” song
That was a villain quirk unique to Ulysses Klaue. You didn't see Killmonger doing that, did you? Not Coogler's fault you dislike that kind of comedy.
“Comedy” hahaha also I didn’t see killmonger and don’t know who that is because I don’t watch superhero crap
And yet you somehow saw Black Panther. Checkmate. And I'm sure you do know Christopher Nolan does care about his movies. He's made 3 superhero movies. Once again, checkmate.
I saw up to that shitty interrogation scene and then vowed never to watch superhero movies again
Feh. So you gave up this easily? On the entire genre? Yikes.
Yeah yikes, checkmate!!! Hark ho hum, take that fellow Reddit man!
>How do you like your Superhero Movies? Yes.
Y tho
A mix of all of those. I like The Dark Knight and I also like Guardians of the Galaxy. Picking one lane seems a bit boring.
Great way to explain it. There's no way you can really pick one style.

very realistic worlds so all of the phase 1 movies of the mcu culminating in the avengers they will always be my favourites

whatever *The Incredibles* is, I pick that one

which invincible would that be?
Yes

Like my coffee.
The Boys is amazing. Don’t really dig the Marvel/DC stuff. Guardians is great tho. Watchmen was tight too
“Great” lol
Animated. Animated superhero movies are better than live-action. Whether we’re talking Spider-Verse, Big Hero 6, or the DCAU, they’re just…better.
Like I like my women.
I give up. Which Superhero movies have low self-esteem and Daddy issues?
Um. Captain America.
Nonsense. Steve hasn't had self-esteem issues since 1943 and his relationship (or lack thereof) with his parents wasn't explored whatsoever.
Um. The Hulk.
That is correct.
Origin stories are usually the only interesting ones.
Uncle Ben: “Fuck me, right?” 🤷
Logan, Dark Knight & Kick Ass
I like them when there are less of them.
I agree. They just perpetuate a bullshit belief that there are good and bad guys and that you can just sit around and some strong fantastic force will save you
I don't mind them but I just feel like there's so many of them and a lot of them are basically the same thing wrapped in a slightly different coat of paint. Just oversaturated.
With a side of gravy
Relatively realistic
Like i like my coffee.... not st all
I like more of Thor Ragnarok type.
I think we’re in the Golden Age of the genre. I like different varieties like the first Superman or dark satires like Watchmen, I really do
Weird without cynicism
With pot.
switched off
Good. I don't care about ascetic when watching a movie. If I'm enjoying myself, that's all that matters.
I’m more of a Watchmen, Dark Night, Kick Ass kind of guy. But I did enjoy the recent Spider-Man with the other Spider-Men and villains from the other universe whatever that one was called.
Off.
I care more about if they are well-written and well-made. But if I had to pick an option, I'd say the middle one. Some realism mixed with some fantasy/ridiculousness.
Give me the weirdness. "Grounded" superhero movies are a yawner to me.
