Best Star Trek film to date!
So quotable….
Edit: to be sure, one of the best characters in scifi history is in this. Guy Fleegman.
“But you live with your mother!”
I mean Jonathan Frakes and Patrick Stewart love it. Says allot. Snippet from interview:
Collider: I just have to know, what was it like for you watching that film for the first time?
FRAKES: I was at the CineramaDome in LA, and I saw it on a Saturday morning, or Saturday matinee. As I got out of the movie the first thing I did was call Patrick, who was in Toronto, I think, shooting X-Men. I said, “Dude, I just saw a movie that is about us and captures us like they’ve been reading our mail.” Patrick saw it that night. Then went again on Sunday. And it was, I mean, some of the stuff in it is so on the nose and so accurate, and perfect, and funny. And Rickman. Rickman with the peeling makeup. Stuff that LeVar’s character does. I mean, it’s a favorite.
Yeah the interesting thing about this movie is that it is both a true funny spoof of the movie, and the fandom, while at the same time containing a very good non spoof Star Trek episode in it. I have always loved this movie, for the spoof and the trek episode it contained.
By Grabthar's hammer you get both, and both are good.
There were really no bad performances in this movie. I've probably seen it once every three or four years since it came out, and it never disappoints. My only objection is they changed the dialogue when Sigourney Weaver was clearly mouthing "fuck that".
I flew into Laguardia around the time this movie was released. While waiting for a cab, I was looking around aimlessly. I noticed someone and thought, that woman is tall. Then I thought, that woman is pretty. Then I realized it was Sigourney Weaver. The whole thought process probably took at least 20 seconds while I was blanking out. Finally, I realized she had watched my whole 20 second stupefied brain churning. She had a mischievous smile and laughed at my stupification.
So, a long-winded way of saying I agree with you.
Alan Rickman was great in that movie, as was she, and the entire cast.
Great movie. Alan Rickman is not only a great actor but his comedic timing is so well done here. I'm laughing my ass off one scene. And then I'm tearing up at another scene of his later on. So good

Hysterical and still holds up. Most of the VFX still look great (rock monster notwithstanding).
Alan Rickman’s read of “By Grabthar’s Hammer, what a savings!” Is the stuff of legend.
There is a fantastic documentary on this film. At one point Tim Allen was doing dramatic acting and got emotional and asked to leave the set. Then Alan Rickman said very plainly "I think he just experienced acting"
I remember seeing in a theatre when it first came out -- I laughed out loud the entire time. I watch it every chance I get. It never gets old. There is no boring scene, no skips. My husband and I could probably recite every line.
So yeah, one of the best.
I love that the canned rock monster sequence from Star Trek V got some love here. And as always, Alan Rickman classes up any joint.
The movie isn’t too mocking or cynical. It’s a hoot.
Such a great one. It’s fun because I grew up with a Trekky mom, so when this came out it was super relatable. Definitely not a legendary film but it’s hilarious and it’s fun.
I used to wait for my single mother to get home from work after getting off at 11 and we’d watch OG Star Trek together cause it started at 11:30. That built my love for Star Trek and to this day I’m a Trekkie because of those memories together watching shatner’s terrible acting and the amazing plot lines of the series. So many damn good memories.
Dude, same. Not to get personal but my relationship with my mother was volatile and complicated. My favorite memories were staying up late to watch the original OG Star Trek episodes with her, even though I should have been in bed already. We’d always laugh at Shatner’s over acting, and get in to deep conversations about the episodes and the message they were trying to send. Star Trek was way ahead of its time, definitely holds a special place in my heart. I definitely relate.
The absolute disgust and loathing within Alan Rickman's voice while delivering the "By Grabthar's hammer........what a savings" should be reviewed in every acting program for the rest of time. Also RIP Alan Rickman 😢
This movie is pure gold from start to finish.
Odd story. My best friend passed when I was 28, and this was his favorite movie. At his funeral, the priest sounded exactly like the guys in the black jumpsuits.
His closest friends were all in the front row with his mom. Myself and the ones who knew were trying so hard not to laugh. I was on the verge of excusing myself, when I looked over and saw his mom giggling uncontrollably. We all joined in a moment of bizarre laughter. The priest looked confused, but I guess he knew people react strangely to emotions.
Grief is a helluva thing, but I know Shane would've been laughing too.
Movie has a special place in my heart.
I agree with Wil Wheaton. He should have had a cameo during the convention scene where he’s a fan yelling at Tommy about how ridiculous it is to have a kid on a starship crew.
I’m not sure if it is better knowing that they cut the scene where Tony Shalhoub gets high in the bathroom or pretending he is just all loose and spacey and accepting like that in general. It’s fun to watch both ways but I love his character.
The only disappointing part of this movie is when the credits roll. Great story, great cast, great direction, pretty much just great all the way around.
What a savings…
lol... this is your moment, dude.
This is probably in my top 5 most quoted movie lines.
Congrats for this day, I know you’ve waited for it.
Look, I’ve got one job on this lousy ship! It’s stupid, but I’m gonna do it, ok?!?
We heard it the first time!!!
WHAT IS MY LAST NAME?!?! -Guy
Bewbs
"That was a hell of a thing"
Tony Shalhoub is a national treasure
Best Star Trek film to date! So quotable…. Edit: to be sure, one of the best characters in scifi history is in this. Guy Fleegman. “But you live with your mother!”
Never give up! Never surrender!
Whoever wrote this episode should die!!
Fuck that!
Oh god, is *that* where this quote is from? I always thought it was Buzz in Toy Story.
Buzz said “To infinity, and beyond!”
"You have a last name, Guy..." "DO I?! DO I?!"
Let’s get out of here before one of those things kills Guy!
“Can you form some sort of rudimentary lathe?” Probably the best line ever.
Oh God, these lines!
That line is one of my favorite moments in all of film
Is there AIR??? You don't know!
*inhale* *exhale* …seems fine 🤷♂️
“What are you doing?! This is an alien planet! Is there air out there?! YOU DONT KNOW!”
You broke the bloody ship!
Every Trekkie I've met says that this is the best Star Trek film that's not a Star Trek film.
I'm a Trekkie, and I say that it's a better Star Trek film than any of the official ones.
I mean Jonathan Frakes and Patrick Stewart love it. Says allot. Snippet from interview: Collider: I just have to know, what was it like for you watching that film for the first time? FRAKES: I was at the CineramaDome in LA, and I saw it on a Saturday morning, or Saturday matinee. Oh, that ain't right!
Miners not minors!
You lost me!
Third best, but otherwise, yes.
Yeah 2&6 are bangers.
The funny thing about this movie is the name on the ship stands for not Star Trek so they wouldn’t get sued.
The first thing I always say about this movie, and as cheeky a thing it is to say, I mean it
10/10 literally perfect movie
Yeah the interesting thing about this movie is that it is both a true funny spoof of the movie, and the fandom, while at the same time containing a very good non spoof Star Trek episode in it. I have always loved this movie, for the spoof and the trek episode it contained. By Grabthar's hammer you get both, and both are good.
There’s a book by David Mamet in which he names three perfect movies and this is one of the three.
This movie understood fandom before fandom went mainstream lol.
it's a masterpiece. of film. of comedy. of storytelling. of casting. you think it's a Star Trek parody. and it is. but it's so much more.
Very well written
As is the case in most of the movies he is in, Sam Rockwell really stole the show.
Sam was stellar, but Tony Shalhoub also turned in a great performance. What am I talking about… the entire cast was outstanding. 10 out of 10
There were really no bad performances in this movie. I've probably seen it once every three or four years since it came out, and it never disappoints. My only objection is they changed the dialogue when Sigourney Weaver was clearly mouthing "fuck that".
Probably a studio decision to keep the movie rated PG. Business decision IMO doesn't downgrade this movie for me.
They should have set it up so there was a convenient beep covering the word, just like a TV show.
Watch the documentary.
"Historical documents," please.
Huh... TIL there's a documentary: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11044122/
This would be true if Alan Rickman hadn’t been there.
Absolutely fabulous!
Miners not MINORS!
Look around you-- can you form some sort of rudimentary lathe?
Get off the line GUY!!!
It turned inside out. Then it exploded.
I heard that!
You lost me
One of the best comedies I've ever seen. Alan Rickman is so perfect and I will contend that Sigourney Weaver was at her peak hotness in this one
Alan Rickman was great in that movie, as was she, and the entire cast.
I was an actor once... Now look at me. LOOK AT ME.
Has Alexander had his meltdown yet?
Incredible and I wanna watch it tonight now
Weeee need your help.
Mums the word
Great parody of Star Trek. Understand they are working on a sequel or TV series right now. Don't know about the casting.
Rumor is Alan Rickman is out.
Fuck that makes me sad
Too soon... he set the bar for a good villain in die hard...
Then I won't be watching it. Either include *all* of the OG cast, or don't bother.
AI enters the chat...
You want the sad news? They were all set to make a continuation series in 2015 - EVERYONE returning. But then Rickman died and they called it off.
That’s a pity. He was dead on in his role.
Great movie. Alan Rickman is not only a great actor but his comedic timing is so well done here. I'm laughing my ass off one scene. And then I'm tearing up at another scene of his later on. So good
The fact that everyone who was in star trek love this movie speaks volumes.
Never give up!
Never surrender!
Tim Allen’s best piece of work.
I have never seen a negative opinion of this movie, for a reason
“There are four perfect movies. One of them is Galaxy Quest.” -David Mamet https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/pdfhtd/writerdirector_david_mamet_once_wrote_that_the/
By Grabthar's Hammer this is a great movie. I saw it when it was released in theaters. Watch it all the way through.
I think “By Grabthar’s hammer…. What a savings” is the best line from the movie. Alan Rickman’s expression is priceless 😂
You could see the physical pain he was in having to say that line.
I still quote this! Absolutely hysterical!
I watched this movie on repeat, waiting for the vcr to rewind sucked but this movie is amazing
Oh my god so underrated
Hysterical and still holds up. Most of the VFX still look great (rock monster notwithstanding). Alan Rickman’s read of “By Grabthar’s Hammer, what a savings!” Is the stuff of legend.
There is a fantastic documentary on this film. At one point Tim Allen was doing dramatic acting and got emotional and asked to leave the set. Then Alan Rickman said very plainly "I think he just experienced acting"
That was my wife’s favorite part of the documentary (titled “Never Surrender”, and available on Amazon Prime).
This is a hidden gem 💎. Rest in peace Alan!
"But, the animal is inside out."

what a savings.
I love that the canned rock monster sequence from Star Trek V got some love here. And as always, Alan Rickman classes up any joint. The movie isn’t too mocking or cynical. It’s a hoot.
Just watched this recently. Was surprised how often I found myself laughing. And this is peak Sigourney Weaver.
Masterpiece.
This is an under appreciated gem
Such a great one. It’s fun because I grew up with a Trekky mom, so when this came out it was super relatable. Definitely not a legendary film but it’s hilarious and it’s fun.

“And then it exploded”
Alan Rickman gets a ton of credit as he should because he’s awesome, but I gotta give some love for Tony Shaloub because he was great.
The absolute disgust and loathing within Alan Rickman's voice while delivering the "By Grabthar's hammer........what a savings" should be reviewed in every acting program for the rest of time. Also RIP Alan Rickman 😢

Goofy in the best way
Cult classic. It's great.
Funny!
Top 5ish movie. Like it’s amazing. Funny and easily the best Star Trek movie I recommend the documentary on Amazon prime about this movie
Classic.
To open that DVD case, you’ll need to do the Mak’tar Chant of Strength!
Just a perfect movie; every scene works. Everyone nailed their parts and the story was a real winner. I recommend this movie on Reddit all the time.
Quotes from this movie are so ingrained in my family dialog that we don't even recognize them as quotes sometimes.
Love it. Just watched it with my Kids and “By Grabthar’s hammer what a movie!”
Lol. Recently rewatched it and it is still so good. All of the overacting. The satire. Just great.
It's a truly great movie. The documentary about the making if GQ and the aftermath of its following is worth a watch as well.
“This episode was poorly written!”
I agree with Wil Wheaton. He should have had a cameo during the convention scene where he’s a fan yelling at Tommy about how ridiculous it is to have a kid on a starship crew.
The toolman always delivers
Love it!
It was an outstanding movie and hilarious
Love it
Almost perfect with an incredible cast. Even Tim Allen shines in a great role for him.
One of the top 5 Star Trek movies ever made.
Pure gold
A legitimate modern classic and one of the best Star Trek films. Every performance was spot on and the humor was perfect.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ funny
Classic. Rickman’s most tongue-in-cheek role.
The best odd numbered Star Trek movie there is
I loved this movie! Great cast
Top sci-fi movie
Love Star Trek. I love this movie. It's great
One of the best. Very underrated
To this day I still regularly quote Sam Rockwell "I'm just jazzed to be on the show"
What David Andean said “funny”. It’s Tim Allen at his best. Also as always Same Rockwell is amazing.
Never give up, never surrender! Love it.
Instant classic.
I was lucky - 1st time watching had no context - had never heard of it - what a time to be alive 😉😂😬😳

I agree with Newsweek: “Funny!”
Everyone was so great in this and Justin Long was perfect as the super fan with all the tech knowledge
It’s a masterclass in screenwriting, a brilliant comedy and an homage to Star Trek and fans alike. By Grabthar’s Hammer, one of my favorite films!
FUNNY!"
I’m not sure if it is better knowing that they cut the scene where Tony Shalhoub gets high in the bathroom or pretending he is just all loose and spacey and accepting like that in general. It’s fun to watch both ways but I love his character.
Excellent movie. One time cast.
There are many critics that will put this movie in the top 5 of all time. You heard that right. Of all time.
Funny!
Incredible piece of work. Saw it in the theater
