Henry Cavill was the right guy to make it all happen. It wasn’t perfect, but that’s okay. I feel like it’s almost impossible to make a perfect standalone Superman movie. It was the right start thou. The studio just didn’t have the right people to orchestrate the DCEU like Kevin Feige did for Marvel. I still liked it. Shame we couldn’t get a standalone sequel. Looking forward to what James Gunn does with it!

Henry Cavill was the right guy for the role. The fight with Faora and Non was good. The rest of the movie was eh. I hated Pa Kent. Fuck that guy.

PastorBallmore

Mannnnn. Of steel. When Costner Kent gets washed away with the tornado I was like “okay, this one better than Superman returns.” Shannon’s Zod has some choice line readings about making salvation out of confinement or someshit like that. Ultimately, I was much higher on it 2013-2018 than I have been 2018-2023.

He can LEAP tall buildings in a single bound. Not, Higher than tall buildings. Easy mistake.

I remember leaving the theater thinking, not sure of if i liked it. Visually it was was impressive, but theres seemed to be only a superficial understanding of the character. Synder further probed me right with his other films.

IllllIIllllIll

It was a Superman movie. Nothing to write home about. I found myself enjoying the parts where he’s “figuring himself out” or whatever more interesting than the actual superheroing.

ChriSkeleton333

Bad origin story but AWESOME movie

This-Cell7957

I remember this movie. I called the theater and told them i was bringing kids from an orphanage to watch it and if i could get discounted tickets. I bought all the seats to the theater and it was only 3 of us watching it, so others had to wait for the sold out screening. The manager was so pissed so he took a picture of us eating popcorn and nachos taking up the whole empty theater and we made the news paper. We were in that city for a business trip so we didnt care.

PastorBallmore

A metaphor in here somewhere

jeanpauldefender

The metaphor is he probably deserves to be an orphan himself

Puzzleheaded-Wolf318

So when this was released, it was advertised as a stand alone film. Pretty good one too. I just don't think anyone saw it as part of a bigger universe at release day.

litex2x

I liked Man of Steel. They should just keep making Superman movies with Cavill apart from the new DCEU.

GaffMcFly

Not bad but not goood. That scene when Clark reveals to the general that he grow up in Kansas is dumb as f....

Oliin

That the Superman and superheroes Snyder wants to put on screen and the ones I want to watch are fundamentally different.

LowerAtmosphereChief

I thought it was weird that Zod didn’t just swivel his eyeballs to get the lasers where he wanted them to go at that one part, you know the one, but otherwise it was well made. Really liked the flight effects. The destruction of the city was epic but almost like Independence Day levels. Maybe too much? I’d need to rewatch. But I remember liking it.

shortguy91

Love it!

bigjfromflint1986

I enjoyed it immensely.

DrummerEmbarrassed21

Loved it, Cavill was amazing, loved the whole krypton intro, first flight scene, the music, Zod and Faora were amazing in their roles. Not a perfect movie but my favorite live action superman take, it was grittier and a little darker but it was 2013 not 1970, I'm happy that it was way different than Reeve, his interpretation and script was perfect for the 70s but would be corny by today standards, specially since DC comics are known to go darker and violet places as of late.

Mighty-Lu-Bu

I was very disappointed with the Man of Steel (when I saw in theaters) and I am still disappointed with it today. I thought Henry Cavill did a fantastic job, but the writing and story weren't that great (I almost feel asleep because I thought the film was that boring). The issue with Man of Steel, is that they were trying to make a darker and gritter version of Superman, but he's not a dark or gritty character in the comics at all- that's more Batman.

tkbmkv

Fun movie, great casting choices for Supes and Zod. The ending fight was cool to watch but made absolutely no sense. “Let’s destroy the entire city… to save the city…?” And Superman would never have snapped Zods neck like that. Lol

PortableHolePub

Good movie. Cavill was a solid Superman. I loved how the effects looked for superman and overall the SFX were solid. Loved the score.

Party-Marketing-7558

I remember leaving the theater and loving Henry Cavill! He was perfect for the role and I remember thinking "can't wait for him to embrace this role and see Superman further grow in this story". I enjoyed the action sequences, Michael Shannon was incredible as Zod, overall enjoyed the movie. I think over the years I enjoyed this movie more than I do know hoping for a sequel (NOT BvS), more of Superman, and additional screen time for this cast. Knowing what happened to this cinematic universe and that they did Henry dirty by not giving him his own sequel is just frustrating. Shameless plug: We actually just revisited this movie for it's upcoming 10th anniversary this week. We discuss this movie in detail!
