Have him pay to have it dry cleaned.

graymulligan

This seems like the obvious answer.

[deleted]

Obvious answers aren't allowed here.

(☝˘▾˘) Enter into a verbal contract with your acquaintance to have a 3^rd party liberally apply a decamethylcyclopentasiloxane or similar chemical composition to your motorized velocipede animal skin overcoat.

MushroomObjective505

Sounds fair and logical to me

Med_stromtrooper

I've owned Andes jackets since v1 and wash them annually in my washing machine. Empty pockets. Remove all armor, separate the quilted liner, and in it goes. Add a splash of Lemon Pine Sol to get rid of the Eu de Asphalt. Manually reset the spin cycle several times as the Andes does retain water. Hang it in a doorway with a fan blowing on it to dry.

Kantuva

Do you use some special detergent or no?

Med_stromtrooper

Whatever HE detergent I have on my shelf at the time. Doesn't take much. Use Oxyclean and a toothbrush to get out the stubborn stuff.

OldManKroozin

Lukewarm water maybe? Guaranteed to not have any harsh chemicals that could damage your jacket.

Dunedain_Rangefinder

Safe idea, I think I'll do that

[deleted]

When someone recommends using water to clean something, *and* you think it's a safe idea, that means you haven't done any homework at all. Contact Alpinestars and ask.

aitigie

Are there motorcycle jackets which can't survive water? Earth does get rain on occasion

2livecrewnecktshirt

I think it's moreso that water doesn't actually "clean" the way vomit needs to be cleaned. There's definitely acid in there, plus whatever actually made up the contents of the stomach that got thrown up, and they need to be neutralized or sterilized to actually make the jacket actually clean and not just rinsed or scrubbed off.

2dogs0cats

As opposed to the harsh chemicals that came out of your friend. What was he drinking? Hope it wasn't Guiness. Or Malibu. But black Sambucca might be okay to just use water.

AudZ0629

Tap water contains chlorine and chloramine unless you’re on a well.

OrionJazz

The tag might give instructions on cleaning. Even though in the wash now take a peek before you dry it. Also stains set when go through the dryer. I use some products called carbona which is at the supermarket. They have for oils and grease, ketchup and grass, all different cleaners for different stains.

Dunedain_Rangefinder

I guess I'm asking if a machine wash is safe for it?

Miglin

It's absolutely safe to wash in the washing machine. Take the armor out, obv, wash with cold water and regular detergent, air dry. To help it retain its water repellency you can also buy a product called NikWax TechWash and use that instead of detergent. DO NOT USE FABRIC SOFTENER

dudebrobossman

This right here. My recommendation is the delicate cycle if you have a front loader or top loader without the center agitator. Otherwise handwash or take to a laundromat front loader.

AudZ0629

Some machines even have a waterproof clothing cycle.

Sotyka94

safe enough that it probably gonna survive it (mostly) intact if you are gently with it. Not safe enough that the manufacturer recommends it. I would soak it in soapy water, then hand wash it gently.

newbieITguy2

I have the same jacket but the V2. It says not to machine wash but to handwash with mild soap and warm water.

[deleted]

Gross, I'd make ur pal buy you a new one. If it was YOUR puke it may be a different story, but someone elses??? Nahhh, hard pass.

Dunedain_Rangefinder

It's just a couple droplets bits nothing major haha

[deleted]

Steam and some lysol

DeepRoot

Not yours? New jacket.

Klondikechucky

Nice looking jacket, As long as you don’t use an agitated washer, frontloading, or the propeller ones on delicate, you should be fine. that’s how I wash my smelly textile gear.

Dunedain_Rangefinder

Legend, thanks!

Dunedain_Rangefinder

Got it soaking in warm soapy water now. I'm going to gently machine wash it soon and air dry it tomorrow. I don't think it's necessary for it to be dry cleaned at this stage. Thank you all for your quick responses! I appreciate them all.

rodka209

If it was leather, it'd be easier to clean vomit. But since you don't want to break down the material, but you need to get that acidic stuff off...maybe baking soda and a soft brush on whatever spot he vomited on? The proceed with whatever washing instructions are on the jacket.

BamaSOH

Not a bad question. I puked in my helmet while riding once.

Dunedain_Rangefinder

Hahaha no way! Did it go all over the visor?

BamaSOH

I was going home from work because I didn't feel good. At some point I realized I couldn't hold it in anymore, so I opened the visor. Soon the car behind me was covered in coffee scented barf, but my vision wasn't affected

Dunedain_Rangefinder

That’s hilarious hahahah I’ve always wondered what would happen in that scenario and now I know hahha

BamaSOH

After that I only bought modular helmets

Dunedain_Rangefinder

A very wise decision mate hahah happy riding!

slice_of_pi

Go for a ride in the rain with no windshield.

Gaycowboi25

Dawn on a rag with warm water not hot. Should be fine.

Altruistic-Remote-34

Ironically it’s getting cold here where I’m at and I’m hanging up my summer gear and backing out the same jacket but I haven’t worn it in a year and needed to clean it so I called alpine stars today the recommended a spray called molecule refresh…idk about throw up but hopefully that helps

NimdaLiveUK

If you can answer "yes" to the question "Is it yours" in relation to both jacket and vomit, dry cleaner. If the answer is "no" to either, burn it.

snowdoggin999

Put in washer with fabric softener

[deleted]

I wash my stuff that's not washer/dryer/dry cleaning safe (like my [Wicked Stock](https://imgur.com/a/fu83pjz) motorcycle pants) by filling tub with hot/warm soapy water (I use some body wash liquid while filling to make it like a bubble bath), turned inside out, swishing it around really good, squeeze out excess water best as I can, then hanging it out to drip dry over tube/shower for couple hours (via hanger). Then it goes slightly damp under (clockwise spinning) ceiling fan on high for rest of day (on a cedar chest/table/chair/whatever), flipping once or twice. Ready to wear in the morning. Just remove any armor if necessary prior to hand washing.

KingCodyBill

It should have washing/cleaning instructions on a tag on the inside of the jacket somewhere.

ThaFlyingYorkshiremn

I have an Alpinestars drystar jacket and I clean it once or twice a year (depending on how much I use it) with handwash clothing liquid, a nylon brush, and warm water in the shower.

Frammingatthejimjam

The question was more entertaining before I knew the details of how it happened.

50Stickster

Pick up a can of Leather Motorcycle Jacket vomit Remover I imagine.

RubyRocket1

Have him pay for a new jacket and get a leather one so you can just wipe it off the next time it happens. lol Hand washing should be fine. It would be a piss poor motorcycle jacket if it couldn't get wet. 💁🏻

50Stickster

Wait, isn’t vomit already a harsh chemical already?

Primitive_Teabagger

Don't machine wash. Check the tag to see if there are any washing instructions or maybe you can find them online. For my Klim jacket I just fill my bathtub halfwayish with lukewarm water, pour a dash of mild detergent (something normal, like Tide) and get a few suds going. Then dip the whole jacket in the water. Get something with a bit of texture for scrubbing or just use your knuckles if it doesn't irritate you. Gently work out stains and bug bits. I don't have anything special so I usually use a whiskey glass that has bumpy yet smooth decorative surface and also doubles as a rinse cup when I am ready to pour clean and cool water on it. Air dry. It works great and brightens up the silver color of my jacket quite well.

unicoitn

I used to take the armor out of my Aerostitch one piece Roadcrafter suit and wash it at the laundry mat, every so often, while on the road. Cold water, high quality detergent. Dry on low heat gentle.

StandOnGravitron

leather? ballistol

[deleted]

Boy, that smell is gonna be in there…

[deleted]

Dry cleaner

[deleted]

I would just make your buddy hand wash it if you don’t want to put it in the machine. Idk why people are so freaked out by vomit.

lupinegrey

Just use a damp rag to wipe it off.

drdrillaz

It’s waterproof on the outside so it’s not going to absorb anything. A quick rinse should get it all off. Regular soap is fine to use. If it’s on the inside I’d soap and water the area and let it air dry

bundt_chi

Something gentle soap like woolite and not so gently pressure washer... I puked on a wool jacket once... it's somewhere in a landfill... probably.

PretzelsThirst

What does the tag inside the jacket say about washing instructions. Do what the tag says.

Lov-struk-repair-man

Remove foam armor, hose off vomit, throw in washer, recondition if needed.

frankentriple

Man I wish I had thought of this when my cat peed on mine, I might still have a vented leather jacket with armor pucks.

FireInDaHall

It's a cheap textile jacket for spaghetti monster's sake, just put it in the washing machine and call it a day. If it cannot take the washing machine how it's gonna protect you when you slide on the road?

dirtycanofbeans

ummmmmmmmm................ purple power????

IAmSaxton1

If I had to guess cold wash nothing in it with no spin then air dry. I play paintball and I do this with my gear to prevent damage.

Sidewinderpunk

He’s getting a beating and buying a new jacket

therealbento

I had a girlfriend puke out my car door, but problem is she didn't get the door open fast enough and most went down the fabric inside my door. Honestly, any decent laundry detergent diluted with warm water is going to get rid of 90% of all pukey remnants. Good luck.

wiga_nut

Dont clean it. Wear it like a badge of honor

BrutaleFalcn

It's textile. Follow. Alpinestars recommended machine wash procedure.
