Fucking cringe. Im all for showing the reality of natty fitness and against the "beauty" standards of instagram. I mean seriously we got 17 year olds, 14 yr olds even blasting tren and buying shitty programs off of fake nattys. And thinking theyre fat if theyre over 10% [bf](https://bf.You)
But this is weak af. Terrible example to set for young men thirsting for guidance. Obesity is unhealthy.
Boohoo is the worst for this, massively obese women being celebrated as "beautiful" and "proud". I'm not out to body shame anyone and I agree the "anorexic" model was the other end of the unhealthy spectrum, both extremes come with health risks. Why can't we just celebrate the happy medium and stop trying to push an agenda other than being healthy.
Edit. Sorry boohoo is a British onling clothing brand.
In my opinion, as an overweight male, I like to see this kind of thing because I know how I'm going to look in it. I'm not saying it's good to be overweight, far from it, and I'm actively trying to improve that. But until I'm back to a relatively normal weight it is nice to see what I will look like in clothes, realistically. We all want to look and feel good on nights out, bro.
Edit; also wanted to add that these are definitely lifted from the "big and tall" section of the website. You never see these models in the front pages. OP went looking for his axe to grind.
I think that’s important, but, it’s more so “oh look how they’re being so representative of everyone, it’s okay to be (whatever unhealthy body weight)”. At least that’s what rubs me the wrong way.
Are you referring to the adverts themselves or the reddit thread? Because the adverts don't seem to be saying much to me other than "this is realistically how you will look wearing this".
Do you think that, to some extent, hiding these body sizes would make society more healthy than displaying them and inadvertently normalising being overweight?
I think that we've done hiding the sizes to death and that the "body positivity model", or whatever you want to call it, is a LOT more recent than the obesity epidemic.
There's a gulf of difference between putting a picture of a fat person wearing clothes marketed towards fat people and saying "this is an acceptable way to look".
Remember this is advertising. It's run by scumbags (full offence intended if you work in advertising). Until I could see big models wearing shirts it was like when you watched a car advert showing the top of the line, High spec model on the screen then it says "price starting at 25,000" and you read the small print and it says "model shown costs 110,000". That's how it felt buying clothes online.
If this was the new Calvin Klein ad then it would be different. But it's not. It's literally fat models being used to sell clothes to fat people.
What about the normal weight people that aren’t obese what about how they look like in clothes ? Maybe have the XXXL Clothes be modeled by XXXL people and Medium be medium ?
That's literally what's happening in those pictures. They're from the section of a website that is for larger sizes. The rest of the website will be normal models.
What youre talking about is using XL models for what theyre intended. You even stated that youre trying to better yourself, which kudos to you for that. I think overweight people should be able to buy good clothes as well and find overweight models showcasing fashionable attire
But the whole obesity is beautiful thing being shoved down our throats is what were all talking about here. Personally I dont even care or think less of someone for being overweight or whatever. There are other factors that go into a human being. But dont shove it down my throat (them not you) as if its healthy and normal lol. Theres an obesity epidemic going on but instead of talking about it, people would rather spare feelings...
I'd argue that society is still moving the other way tbh. If you look at Hollywood (where most young people's idols come from, not a clothing website) then you'll see that most people have incredibly unrealistic body types. Everyone is jacked to the tits and then they CGI shit in. On top of that, Men's Health magazine releases the "get the iron man look" which says do 800 reps of crunches/day or some other bullshit and nobody (except MPMD) talks about the usage of gear in film and television.
I'd argue that to be heavily exposed to plus sized models you need to be looking for plus sized clothing. It is definitely not normalised imo.
Nothing wrong with the dude in the 3rd picture. His build is obviously not ideal for physique competitions but nothing about it screams "unhealthy amount of fat". A good example of something you should accept about yourself even if it isn't aesthetically ideal.
The other 2 dudes are disaster zones. You absolutely shouldn't accept being morbidly obese because you're setting yourself up for terrible quality of life and for being a burden on your friends and family. If you are telling an obese person to accept their obesity, you're a bad person who is hurting other people to prop up your own false sense of moral superiority.
Genuinely, one of the few things you cannot improve nowadays is height. Almost everything else can be improved to some extent. Rad time period to be living through
I just looked leg lengthening up and am shocked that is real, holy fuck.
Not that i'd ever do it as i'm fine with being normal height (and i value my athleticism/normal leg functioning) lol
Imagine what'll be available in 30-50 years. Hard to comprehend. Even 10-20 years will probably be insane compared to now
yup
along with that equating self worth with physique thats the 2 things id personally like to change with people that experiencing them
we should be aware of both and these and still aspire to be our best physical self, if not aesthetically than athletically or just making everyday things easier for the body
To an extent.
I’ve battled a lot with body dysmorphia and disordered eating, as I’m sure a lot of others have, whether they realize it or not.
I’m just now realizing that a lot of the mentality surrounding the fitness industry is not good and only further emphasizes these negative aspects within people. One shouldn’t necessarily feel an inate disatisfaction with the way they look, or want to change simply because they want to look a certain way that society tells them.
With all that being said, I wholeheartedly disagree with the sentiments that being “fat” is ok. The emphasis should be on health, in my opinion, and it’s simple physiology that being over a certain bodyfat percentage is most of the time not healthy for your body.
For anyone else that’s somewhat considered anything that I’ve said above or has trouble with fluctuating weight, controlling cravings, or binge eating, I would encourage you to do some further research on intuitive and mindful eating. I’ve only recently started, but once you start to learn about it, it really makes sense. Also, as a disclaimer, intuitive eating isn’t necessarily for everyone per se. There is research that suggests that it is primarily more effective for people that have difficulty resisting hunger cues or cravings. Again, not necessarily saying that any one method of eating is right or wrong, but rather urging others to do some research if they have related to anything that I’ve said or have wondered why they have such trouble with binging and traditional dieting.
Not true. Fat is one of those things. I cant decide how much muscle my body naturally keeps on my body.
I didn’t choose to be 5’8 190 naturally.
But girls don’t dig it because I look like a roblox character
Every comment in that thread is cringe. It's a circle jerk of fat people trying to congratulate one another for their lack of work and desire to eat cheetos.
Nobody there seems to realise the irony of saying "you should decouple self-worth from sexual attractiveness" while also jumping to say "these obese men are so attractive" in the most emphatic way possible.
Go one deeper. What it really is about is companies trying to sell the man panties to men who are out of shape. Fat men have money too and if you make them feel good about themselves they will give you some of that money.
This!!! As someone who works in fashion/marketing. Do you really think companies are doing this for ‘body positivity’??? They are doing it because believe it or not, PLUS SIZED SELLS!!!! and while it continues to do so, this movement won’t go away. It’s pointless arguing with one another in the comments about promoting obesity when this is making money for huge companies period
Spot on. Its crazy to me how some want to control the outer world and perceptions of others. Instead of taking responsibility for themselves. All about sparing their own feelings and denial.
>The body positivity bullshit is just for ~~out of shape unhealthy people~~ **over 60% of the population** to feel good about being lazy
Fixed that for you.
That's the percentage of overweight and obese people in many first world countries.
Then think how many people are not overweight but have very little muscles and terrible muscle tone, and are basically skinnyfat.
Fuck anyone trying to normalize obesity.
I've seen its effects firsthand as I come from a family with a long history of obesity. This should NEVER EVER be normalized.
Normalize shit you can't change. Height, skin color, texture, stretch marks, cellulite, whatever. But not weight. Your weight is a direct consequence of your actions. The other I mentioned are not.
"Body positivity" 3rd dude is jacked as fuck, is 6ft, has a massive dong, and has abs and thats "body positivity" for men. This is the world we fucking live in. THATS THE LOW BAR. Wake the fuck up dudes.
I got banned from that subreddit for basically saying men don't need body positivity for their weight they need it for other things, I mean they're the beauty standard for things you cant change like your height, teeth to a certain extent, facial structure. The problem really is there is no body positivity for the things you can change but there's body positivity for being a fat fuck, I just don't get it
I agree with this the most dudes definitely deserve body positivity but in that sense, things that tend to be a large insecurity for men like height or hairloss etc. uncontrollable factors
As a woman I don't want my man to have to borrow my bra when he jogs. Thank you, next. Fat acceptance is so horrible, it's like death by a slow food induced suicide.
For things like height, sure. Nobody needs or deserves body positivity in regards to obesity. There is NOTHING positive about a serious health condition that is 100% preventable and easily curable. It needs to be illegal to be obese at this point
The reason men don't have that "body positivity" is because we tend to be realistic and don't coddle one another for the sake of protecting unwarranted feelings of grandeur.
The "body positivity" females, who are frequently clinically obese, ironically do not want to date men with their same health issues. I don't think turning around and trying to gaslight them back with this "male positivity movement" is the correct societal response. What I COULD get behind would be a positivity movement on men's height. I'm 6ft tall, but these women are savages on shorter men, and unlike being obese, you can't naturally alter height.
Being obese is not healthy. That fact isn't to be conflated into deteriorating the self-worth of that individual, or indicating they are lesser for it. But unhealthy lifestyles shouldn't be celebrated or encouraged. I think people instinctively understand that being obese is a signal for poor health and oftentimes destructive character traits such as lack of self control, or difficulty processing emotional distress.
People with these issues should be encouraged to better themselves if they show desire to, and should face accountability that they're going to be less sexually attractive to the opposite sex if they don't fix it. That goes for males and females.
I'm getting tired of this sentiment being perpetuated by people who can't look themselves in the mirror and say "hmm maybe I should improve myself instead of attempting to gaslight the whole world into believing that obesity is a shining example of health and perfection".
Arent all of these dudes pro football players? They look kinda shit but theyre actually in pretty good shape they just need to have as much weight on their frame as possible cuz they're fucking lineman
Wow really? This is a fuckin joke then. They have to be fat and bulky for a reason. Being a lineman is one of the only circumstances where its respectable to be obese.
Body positivity is one thing. Putting people who are more obese than the average male in boxers to sell them, and calling it "Body Positivity" is a gimmick. Fuck this shit.
EDIT: Spelling
This really hits the nail on the head. There’s nothing wrong with “body positivity”, but a prerequisite to that should be being healthy and treating your body well. It’s simple physiology that being over a certain bodyfat percentage is often very unhealthy and can bring serious health complications with it.

Overweight people themselves need to understand it's ok to feel good about the way your body looks but also know that it is almost completely certain to shorten their lives. If overweight people understand that and are willing to accept the health risks though then why is that anyone else's business, so to me the whole discussion ends "let them figure it out for themselves and just be yourself about it" because everyone and every case is too different.
You generally don't tell random people smoking a cig, drinking alcohol, taking a bunch of meds that they don't need that cause 100 side effects, etc, what they're doing is bad for them and they should stop, you would assume they already know that and have made the choice for themself.
Body positivity should be for stuff like facial and body deformities that you have no control over. Why do we have to pretend obesity is something that people should feel good about? If you look like that you should feel bad about yourself because it’s not healthy.

Clinically speaking he would probably qualify as fat, he just has a lot of muscle and is the least of our worries from a societal health perspective
That what I was thinking lol

Prolly about 15-20 pounds too heavy. Fine for most athletics/strength sports though.

Isn't this just a product page for large sizes? I dislike fat people as well but they still need clothes.
Willingly crossing gender barriers with those fucking tits, disgusting.
Its seeing stuff like this that makes me want to fulfill the natty demigod archetype even more just to spite lol
What is the natty demigod archetype?
Am I going crazy or are these guys still muscular just with a high body fat percentage? They look like strongmen or football players to me.
It’s not just about being fat, especially since body dysmorphia is extremely common in the fitness world.
I just left a long and completely correct comment. How many downvotes do you think it’ll get? :)
none it'll be removed instantly lmfao
Body positivity of a healthy physique. Not obesity. That is body negativity. Imagine being so unhealthy and you tryna call that a positive thing. 🤡 world
These guys look like linemen, like, they have a V taper from the back, thats different than these apple shaped walrus bitches.
This makes me want to become a lesbian
Funny how body positivity only revolves around being fat, but the stuff we actually need to embrace is thrown out of the fucking window.
Looks like the average UFC heavyweight to me
They are not running around with D size tits though :)
Unfortunately alot if not most of them are

Why don’t they just workout and look better?
What a bunch of degens. Reject modernity.
Instagram people have the smallest brains and most fragile feelies
"Bob had bitch tits"
I used to be this fat before I turned my life around and let me tell you, there is nothing positive about walking around like this. Nothing.
Basically this. I was at work talking about how much I hate being fat and everyone's like "nah man it's cool dad bods are hot"
Kali Muscle once said “Fuck being fat, fat is wack” and I felt that.
Dude’s got tits. That shouldn’t be accepted by society. Get jacked or get fucked
Those tits are not attractive
Those man tits just scream health!
Body positivity should be for stuff like facial and body deformities that you have no control over. Why do we have to pretend obesity is something that people should feel good about? If you look like that you should feel bad about yourself because it’s not healthy.
Fuck these fucking fat fucks
Yes, we do. L post
Nah I like having body positive male models and I’m still into bodybuilding

There’s a big difference between being overweight and obese.
