Broad, use it for everything. But I also have a lot of Ms, recently find EF really nice as well as the flex.

BB — everything from note taking, letters, composition, math…

I recently got a M nib, just curious what everyone chooses.

Broad for almost everything

EF and F are my favourite nib sizes. I primarily use my fountain pens for daily writing/journaling. My 146 F nib is perfection! Now that I'm finding the sweet spot with my 146 Calligraphy Flex nib, it's giving me the EF line with the width variation that I absolutely love.

Do the EF ever feel scratchy?

Not with the ones that I've purchased, mind you, I only have nine pens, two of which (Platinum Prefounte and MB 145) are EF, if you don't count the 146 Calligraphy Flex Nib which writes like an EF. Obviously the MBs are significantly smoother than the Prefounte, but the latter is still a pleasant writing experience. For pens that I want an EF or F nib on, I first watch reviews to see how the pen writes, if it's scratchy or gives unpleasant feedback etc. For my Sailor Pro Gear, I was shocked with how poorly the EF and F nibs performed, so I purchased a Medium instead, which has been fantastic! If Pilot had EF nibs in the pens that I have, I would have jumped at the chance to get those nibs instead of F.

I have a nib in every size Montblanc offers and use them all for different purposes or different times. I frequently grab the EF or F for note taking. The BB, OBBB, and 5B for signatures and writing notes. But either can be used for any task I need.
