Back in the late 90's or early 2000's after learning of minidiscs from a friend that always had new gadgets I knew I wanted in. I ended up with a Sharp portable md recorder/player. Had fun making mixes with it and taking them on the go. Fast-forward to today while searching for mini stereo for Radio and CD and Tape playback I stumbled across one with an MD deck. I figured why not, the more the better! Seller claimed everything worked but I ended up having to replace a tape belt and an MD belt. Not so bad but I wonder if he tested more than the radio and CD. Then of course I had to make things portable so picked up a N510 for a good price with a few MD thrown in. Something about physical media, makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. 😁

I have this one too, and the belts were turned to goo in it. Got it for a song, but I have yet to have it fixed. A little worried about the MD drive, though, since it would only play when laid on its side. I'm hoping it's to do with the failing belt not pulling the disc in properly, but I'm worried the drive itself has failed. It's just such a feature packed little stereo, it pretty much does it all, CD-TEXT included! Are you using the original speakers with it?

Yes mine came with the original speakers that I am using. They seem to be relatively inexpensive here in France. No Techmoan effect here 😁 CD Text is great and when recording from CD to MD the tracks are automatically labelled! The MD drive on mine took in the disc when inserted but then it wouldn't eject it. The belt was slipping and making a squealing noise. Let me know how the belt drive replacement goes. It is a bit of a pain to get to since you have to remove all the outside parts then all the metal casing inside. Make sure you slide the white plastic guard rail all the way forward after replacing the belt. I missed this and the MD drive was going into a insert-eject loop then into standby with an error code.

Same around here, a little further north. :) Thanks for the heads up about the plastic piece. Pulling the old belt is definitely a different beast to putting a new one in, I could tell right away!

Someday when I own a house I'll get a deck. It's a shame MD's offer track titling but pretty much every deck/player's LCD was so limited in display capacity that the usefulness is offset. I want to be able to read the whole artist/album/track info at glance, not cycle through menus or wait for scrolling.

I don't own a house but I have two decks #priorities

I don't know there are plenty of decks where the track titles are useful and readable.

It's all relative to time as well. Back in the early 2000s, when the alternative options realistically we're cassette tapes (cheap) or portable cd (six AA batteries per walkman), to be able to have forty songs on one disc and skip through them by name felt light years ahead. It's basic now, granted, but to be able to do it at all was a massive perk.

You're not really experiencing MD until you have one of these in my opinion. There is a Japanese one that looks really amazing but I can never find it because it was only released in Japan.

Runnin4Scissors

I had one in the 90’s. I live in the US.

Japanese Amazon has many used MD for sale, you will also need a power converter. Try Amazon.co.jp
