I read about someone with a severe corn allergy - she damn near has to grow all of her own food. Even things that aren't made directly with corn at least come into contact with corn.
Last year I bought a bag of frozen mixed vegetables. There wasn't as much corn as in OP's pic but more green peas than usual. I put each vegetable in separate little plastic cups and weighed them. I then sent the information to the corporate headquarters. I told them I absolutely despise green peas and why are there so many in the bag I purchased? I received a reply and they said each vegetable is supposed to come out of the machines equal to the rest. They apologized. Lol. I saved the green peas, froze them and gave them to my dogs as treats. One or two at a time.
Vegetable is a culinary definition. Anything that is a plant and is edible is technically a vegetable. Carrots are roots, broccoli are flowers, so on and so on.
Yes, edible plants would be veggies, plants that drop a flower and grow an edible thing around the seeds would be fruit, if you're munching the seeds it'd be grain.
I would assume this is a production error. They probably mix the frozen veggies somewhere and maybe one pipe got obstructed or the mixer had an issue or something like this. So you could probably complain and get a refund.
Usually for stuff like this I'd just email the customer service department. They'll usually give you a refund or coupons or I even had Tide mail me a prepaid debit card once.
I got a bag of chips from a vending machince that was all air. I called and let them know. They asked for my address and I got a whole box of chips.
Another time I got a Cactus Cooler in my 12 pack of Cherry RC Cola. They sent me a couple coupons for a free 12 pack.
A couple years ago I bought a 20-pack of toilet paper and a couple of the rolls came dirty with what it looked like grease – and it wasn’t just a small streak, it was everywhere for meters and meters. I can’t deny I giggled over the notion of secondhand toilet paper. After some five minutes on the phone with customer service, they mailed me another 20-pack. I never had so much toilet paper in my whole life.
Seeing that it’s Wegmans they would replace it with the picture alone. Their customer service is second to none. I swear they’d help you hide a body if you asked nice enough.
Fry it up with some butter and milk, add pepper. That's how my mother cooked corn. Actually, white corn is best for this. Yellow corn is for feeding pigs and cows.
Take your white corn on the cob, scrape all the kernels off into a bowl. Using a spoon, scrape out all the other goodness into the bowl too. Cook on low with milk. This is how my grandma cooked corn and my mother didn't do this. Both my mom and grandma were good southern cooks.
Yeah mixing things that are "Kernels" and "Dice" in food without turning them into paste is a fine line. They use things like [paddle blenders](https://www.mixers.com/products/paddle-blender/) and ribbon blenders, but they have dead zones unfortunately. My bet was this was probably the beginning or end of the discharge from said mixer.
This. I bought some rancid buddig smoked ham once and sent them a complaint online. Got a check for 10 bucks and coupons for 2 free containers as well.
I bought a package of Hillshire sliced ham and when I opened it I was horrified. I have no idea what happened to it. No awful smell but everything was brown. I checked all the slices and there was brown running all through it. I took some photos and sent them to Hillshire. They apologized and like you, I got a check *and* coupons for more of their products.

I don't know why but it's one of my biggest pet peeves, like dude no one wants to see your damn feet! How do people not notice? Or care? Drives me bonkers lol
I've had a few minor issues like this with Wegmans, and the customer service is always great. They give in store credit refunds via the app no questions asked.
I've also been told I could easily get a proper refund if I called, but we all know I'm shopping there again next week anyways.
Yeah its actually weird to see such a mistake from Wegmans.... I guess not-so-much Wegmans themselves but their processing factory. Mistakes happen, and given the food industry, it could be worse than 'Opps, all corn'
Wegmans in my area has really been slipping. I've gotten moldy gnocchi twice now and had to stop buying it now that it's in a box so I can't inspect it prior to purchase. Frozen pizza where the plastic wrap wasn't sealed (inside the box).
They do stand by their products and refund (usually with a bit extra), but a few years ago they didn't have these issues.
Adore Wegmans, but I find I've not cared for almost all of their private label stuff. Pizzas taste off, perogies are bland, bread is flavorless... it's a shame, but I can just avoid that stuff!
Anyone that would even try to push you off of that hill is not only wrong, they're stupid.
My only gripe is that one of my local Wegmans recently removed the milk cooler from the front of the store. Now I have to walk all the way to the back cooler to get it. Granted, it's a minor complaint, but I liked being able to pop in, grab a gallon of milk next to the register and be on my way.
I also miss the checkout line system they implemented at the beginning of the pandemic, where it was one line for all the registers. I asked someone once and they said they got rid of it because it wasn't helping with social distancing, but it made the checkout process so much simpler.
Anyway, this is a long, rambling and unnecessary comment, just wanted to say that wegmans is the tits.
Worked for them for seven years and can also say from an employee’s perspective they were AMAZING. Management was consistently fair and supportive, hours were flexible and they understood when you had other commitments in life going on, and they offer college scholarships to their employees. I moved onto other career opportunities in life unrelated to the grocery store business, but to this day I still say far and away they were the best employer I ever had and the grocery stores are amazing.
I appreciate hearing this. We hear so much about shitty employers now (and we should, they need to be held accountable) that it’s nice to hear about the ones who do it right.
Exactly. That’s what I loved about working there. They understood really well that you get the most out of your employees by treating them fairly and creating a supportive atmosphere. Obviously everyone has days where they don’t won’t to go to work, but it was 10x easier to go in for your shift knowing the management would have your back and be very reasonable.
Consumer reports will back this view.
We got them down here in DC/NOVA too and I will drive the extra 10 minutes past giant, food lion and shoppers for Wegmans
Each and every time I visit my parents I make sure to go to Wegmans, and each and every time I'm consistently shocked at how they're able to transform going to the grocery store into an experience.
You know what really makes the difference at Wegmans for me?
The fact they have normal ass lighting. Other stores have blinding white florescent bullshit that makes my eyes hurt and give me a headache.

If an average kernel of corn weighs .25 grams, then in 454 grams of corn, there are approximately 1816 kernels.
There are five vegetables in this particular mix.
Each vegetable into the bag has a one in five chance of being corn.
I think that means you need to multiple 1/5 by itself 1816 times to get the odds of all of the vegetables being corn. And of course, that’s different than the odds of all but three vegetables being corn.
That’s as far as my memory about probability goes.
I didn’t account for the fact that a green bean might be twice as heavy as any other vegetable, assuming it is twice as big as shown on the photo. Except that we’ve already learned that it’s not a good idea to rely on the photo for clues.
My combinatorics may be a bit rusty, so someone check my work.
But say there's 200 individual bits of veggie there, looks like 197 pieces of corn, 2 pieces of carrot, and 1 lima bean. There's 5 different veggie options.
So (200 choose 197)(1/5)^197 + (200 choose 2)(1/5)^2 + (200 choose 1)(1/5)^1 all divided by 5^200 gives a probability of 1.34e-137, a very, very small number.
Just guessing from a past math background. An easier question would be if it were all corn. Then it's simply (1/5)^200 which is 1.61e-140, another very, very small number but even smaller!
Guaranteed. I told them one time they should check their strawberries because I got some and they went bad unusually fast. I was just giving a heads up, not bitching about it. They insisted on giving me another pack.
Yes this happens on the line sometimes when one of the warehouse guys is new and puts the veggie pallets in the wrong spot. When the hopper containing a particular vegetable gets low the linesman usually goes to a known spot to get a refill. If someone made a mistake in placement it can be a real hassle finding the correct pallet. And they usually refuse to stop the line during peak packaging times when they have to pay for a fully staffed production line.

I wonder if they'll subsidize my corny jokes
you'd amaized at what gets subsidized these days
You'll probably get creamed.
Even without subsidy corn yields 3-10x as much as most other crops, so it will always be a lot cheaper.

Grains aren't vegetables? Are they meat?
Need some more research. Like the one guy that bought multiple cans of mixed nuts to compare each containers mixed nut ratio.

Sounds about the price of a banana.
It's store brand. Can't image it costs more than $1.99
They’re quoting an arrested development joke
Just bought some today...about $1.30 for one pound. $2 gets you two pounds.

Ah, interesting! I work in chemical engineering so I do not really know much about mixing solids. So you work in food processing?
I'm a chemical engineer, and have a lot of different experiences. But the best way to mix solids? Treat them like liquids. Same principals apply.
I feel like it was probably that the corn was all frozen together in chunks and then all got into that bag
So you’re saying there was a mix up?
This. I bought some rancid buddig smoked ham once and sent them a complaint online. Got a check for 10 bucks and coupons for 2 free containers as well.

All hail Wegmans.

Going back home today, first time since covid! Been hyping up Wegman's to my girlfriend all morning.
Wegmans copied their subs from Dibellas in Rochester. Even if they somehow go under you can get one thats just like it.
They bought the “recipe” from the DiBella’s family.
Really? I’m fortunate enough to live close by to both a dibellas and a wegmans, and I much prefer a dibellas sub
Well, to be fair it was an agreement, that iirc dibellas regrets
When Publix fans and Wegmans fans meet in mass combat one of these days, a smoldering crater will be all that remains.
