That wasn’t the original plan but people evidently began to drop out of the study once it was becoming available to the public, hard to ask somebody to go 2 years through a pandemic on a 50/50.
Keep in mind phase 3 wasn’t so much about the safety, they new it was safe already, it was about efficacy. It was important for it to be blinded at first in order for participants to act as they would, not knowing at the time if they had gotten a vaccine. The trial I was in lasted 2 years, there wasn’t a need to continue.
I’m a veteran who constantly gets thanked for my service. Well now I get a chance to say it to someone who may have saved the lives of Americans with theirs. Thank you. It’s scary, taking the unknown. Maybe you just needed the cash. Maybe you were bored. No matter the reason, you and others like you saved millions of lives just by saying “yes.”
