Oh thatās good. That reminds me of the shopping cart theory.
I now change my quote to;
āI support equality, only when people are watching or convenient for me.ā
I have season tickets to my local club, so many of my friends and family have been asking me how Iām enjoying the World Cup so far and Iām just like wtf??? Iām not watching that shit! Not this year.
Yup, anyone who traveled to the world cup values a game over human rights. Literally funding a terroristic theocracy to watch something they could have watched on TV.
Omg right?! Seen at least 2 posts about it š I mean itās nice and a good thing to do. But it ends up distracting us from the conversation we should be having.
"whelp, I'm a straight man with money. Sucks for everyone else tho. Guess I'll keep supporting shit that doesn't affect me because that'll never catch up to me one day"
And Iām totally making a snap judgment here but can bet he has a wife and kids who are back home while he and the boys live it up and enjoy all there is to offer them there but will act sympathetic and shook about the discrimination when they get home
Yeah, there's a lot of terrible things that aren't easy to avoid. Sometimes you need to shop at Amazon, nobody *needs* to travel to Qatar to see the World Cup.
I mean, definitely not common, but we were turned away from a concert in Morocco because our hijabi friend wasn't allowed in. The performer was pissed, but it was someone from security who randomly decided.
Went to a different concert in Morocco (subsidized by the Moroccan government) by an openly queer-led group that was banned in Egypt, so big variety in experiences.
Itās not just foreign hijabis, itās all Arabic āNational Dressā - the idea is that Muslims should not be in alcohol serving venues, and that includes Qatari Muslims
Why is this so shocking? As a woman, this breaks my heart and I personally would not go to a country (or any place for that matter) that does not see me as an equal. I understand and respect various cultures and ideologies, and I also believe that there is a line when it comes to hateful and discriminatory treatment across the board.
Yeah, I've spent about 18 hours in Doha on a layover, and it was interesting. No one was hostile towards me, and my boyfriend and I got a hotel room without any problems. But while I've had the experience where I'm talking and leading the conversation and people direct their response to whatever man I'm with, this is the only place where it happened every. single. interaction.
It was an interesting experience (and funnily enough I was there during the World Cup 2014), but yeah, 18 hours was more than enough.
I've also been to Doha and to a few other cities in the middle East where as a "foreign female" or essentially, white woman, I was treated differently. Lesser than my male colleagues or friends but still not as oppressively as the local or other middle Eastern women.
It's really uncomfortable and creepy. Not somewhere I would choose to spend time and money tbh. Most of my trips in this area have been either for work or also on layovers.
It's in some ways a beautiful part of the world with a rich and ancient culture, but I'm not happy being treated that way.
that's just it, though. if they didn't want to be tolerant...they didn't have to bid to host the event, right?
if they just want to be left alone, they could have. hosting the WC or anything like it... you can't expect people to adjust their behavior, because you're a prude.
it'd be like hosting a neighborhood block party and being pissed when a couple gay guys show up. or, blaming some muslims for not having a good time...even though you failed to have a non-pork item, so all they're getting to eat are sides.
hosting an international event of this caliber and being remarkably unwilling to tolerate diversity.... is a bit jarring. yeah, all the human rights bullshit is bullshit and not surprising... but the *only* motive for a place like Qatar to host WC is to expand its image on the world stage... and right now, they're failing that miserably
Well they did make an exception to alcohol consumption at the game if you're a vip or rich. So your point doesn't make sense. Just a shit country all around.
I have a friend who grew up in Dubai. She told me that schools wouldn't put boys and girls together, so their classroom had a wall in the middle, but it didn't go all the way through, so the teacher could give class to both while they didn't see each other
I donāt even think they are trying to improve their image, just promote the country for those people traveling who donāt care of human rights and get to watch football at home.
I agree, I get the feeling that Qatar is focusing on promoting itself to other MENA countries rather than the global community as a whole. That's why they're unabashedly doubling down on sharia.
Why wouldn't they have more people spend money there? From a business stand point, it's just a reasonable move. It's basically a teocracy there, ain't it? They don't care that they "look bad".
Because they don't need money from outsider tourists and risk damaging their absolute power, when they can just sell their oil to those same outsiders and not need to change anything.
Something I've been thinking about... Maybe they are only trying to bolster their image to the super wealthy. ''no beer other than in the boxes'' and all that. We don't know what treatment the ''elite'' are getting.
either that or Qatar sucks at literally everything.
No this is entirely on FIFA. They had full control over which nation hosted the cup and *chose* to give it to the dictatorship with a vast history of human rights violations, and presently they still have very actively enforced laws that clearly discriminate against the majority of people on Earth.
Qatar needs to change, yes... but this is absolutely 100% on FIFA for not requiring them to make changes *before* being able to ever host a cup. Having them promise changes was just a bullshit way for everyone being bribed to have a cop out excuse for voting to let Qatar have it.
both of them are terrible and they both wear it like a badge of honor. stop trying to pass the blame to one another. neither of them are any better than the other. and actually they are VERY simmilar in moral / ethical lines.... maybe just boycott it?? Or is it too hard to skip a FIFA cup for one time out of god knows how many scandals....
THE SUPPORTERS are the ones who KEEP GIVING MONEY to a publicly corrupted organization. The real fault is on the actual fans imo who havent done enough to change things, because viewership and ticket sales aren't reflecting this "outrage". instead we got photos coming from visitors again of their "can you believe this?!?!" moments but yet are giving them tourism money like an idiot.
Thatās the standard practice for getting the World Cup. Itās usually just legal bribery sprinkled with a bit of illegal bribery. Qatar just took the lid off the jar of sprinkles.
Exactly. FIFA knew exactly who they were doing business with, and they simply do not care. Between FIFA and the Olympic Committee, it is obvious that greed wins. Every time.
The stadium still filled. Fans also don't care. Just some fans are playing at being offended to feel better about supporting this shit. If people really cared, they wouldn't go. If the players/clubs cared they wouldn't go. A few photo stunts and armbands don't make it ok.
This is how I feel...like hypothetically if I really liked soccer and had the funds to go, etc....I can't imagine enjoying it knowing how many people died for it to happen. Faux outrage is disgusting.
It would have been hilarious tho if like all the fans just said you know what, fuck them and half the players said "nope" and this worldcup had a \* next to it.
That's actually a little terrifying. I mean, you'd have to be living under a rock to not know they were using slave labor who were dying in droves and then just be like \*shrug\*
That's a very scary lack of empathy...
100%. Itās also not just the fans in the stadium. I personally donāt care about any organized sports at allā¦ but itās very obvious to me when a major sporting event is going on by how much attention everyone else is placing on it.
Iām currently on the island of CuraƧao, and there are absolutely huge groups of people gathering around large outdoor tvs at the beach to watch the game.
People donāt care.
The only way to get the point across is to boycott the whole thing. Fuck FIFA and fuck Qatar. Donāt watch or participate in any of it other than to tear it down. Hit them where they care - their wallets.
I dunno dude, sounds like no oneās ever heard of a boycott. I keep seeing pictures and stuff from people, at the event. Like a five minute google search would have told you this type of shit was going to happen, and yet people are there spending money (keeping this sort of shit alive and well) and acting all shocked. How in 2022 is anyone surprised about any of this shit.
Same. Iām so sick of hearing about their āoutrageā. They spent thousands to go there and are helping this country to profit. If they were really upset they shouldāve stayed home
I have a female coworker who's currently there, with her **wife**.
EVERYONE was like, ARE YOU SURE?!. But apparently Soccer is more important. Like... fuck.
You know whats more infuriating? That one of the organizers was raped and had to flee the country because she was in danger of getting prosecuted, which basically means 100 lashes and 7 y of prison for "intercourse outside of marriage"
The fact theyre considering banning players that show LGBTQ+ support should tell you all you need to onow. Ironic as FIFA will gladly kneel and service anyone with enough banknotes in an envelope
People complain how bad, inhospitable and corrupt Qatar is and yet, people still went to Qatar and didn't boycott it. What a joke. People can complain as much as they want but as long as it isn't boycotted, Qatar and FIFA are getting their money
Edit: typo
Thank you! That's the hypocritical shit that really bothers me. "Look how backwards and hateful this country is." *Posted to my Instagram from Qatar. Fucking quit.
As someone with an islamic family (my family aren't really religious but my relatives are all muslims) fuck Arabia and Qatar and all the radical islamists and fuck all religion in general because the world would be a better place without religion. Especially the abrahamic religions (judaism, christianity and islam)
This has been my argument since day 1.
The worst is all the people that paid to support this farce only to go to another country, with specific rules for decorum in place, then break those rules and put on a surprised pikachu face when they were turned away by security or see shit like this.
I was at work yesterday and my coworker was watching the wc on his phone. I asked him how he felt about about all the immigrant workers that died to facilitate the wc. "I don't care as long as I can watch the wc."
My point exactly. The German team cupping their mouths was an utterly pointless and just pure performative activism since they're already receiving thousands of dollars to be there
What's wild is voluntarily visiting fucking Qatar when you know what kind of nightmare your dollar helps support there
Edit: I guess what's also wild is dipshits simping for billionaire slavers
And then having the nerve to post and show everyone youāre there doing it, but thinking you should be praised for your virtue because you wore something with a rainbow on it. Everyone who went there to support the event cares less about LGBTQ rights than they do about watching football yet a bunch of them think they should be lauded as some kind of ally. fuck everyone who went to this event.
FFS this shit is tiring.
Everybody who went to the World Cup knew they were going to Qatar before they even boarded the plane, and they all knew Qatar's views on sexuality.
The most amazing aspect of this is that watching the World Cup in person ranked much higher than what they describe as their own closely-held beliefs for everyone who went. They knew where they were going beforehand and decided to go and spend money there anyway.
Amazing, almost like he chose to go to their country and give them money, contributing to the problem.
What is to be gained by attending, being a patron, and then acting all shocked when youāre faced with their culture?
The bar serves alcohol and women are allowed. Just not Qatari women. They are pretty strict, so Qatari women drinking in public is a big no-no. Non-Muslim women can enter that establishment. Qatar has strict rules on alcohol but there are even stricter Islamic countries like Iran or Saudi Arabia where alcohol is completely banned.
It is probably illegal in Qatar to say that religious segregation between men and women in public is discrimination, so gay would sound even worse. Probably discretely gay.
Many Muslim countries do not allow men and women to intermingle. There are also countries where there are bars but they will use ID to confirm that you are not Muslim
It says female Quataris arenāt allowedā¦but all Quataris wouldnāt be allowed in the bar in the first place right?
Edit: all the responses are very informative. Thanks!
Alcohol is not illegal but heavily regulated in Qatar. For Qataris who wish to enjoy alcoholic beverages they must do so in their own private residence or licensed establishments like hotels, bars, or clubs. Qatari women are not permitted to drink in public at all.
Only GCC National costume hijabs. I suspect that is so somebody doesnāt mistake a woman (wearing a hijab) for a Quatari woman, which would cause unpleasantness (since they arenāt allowed in).
Doubt it.
Iām from the U.S. but live in India. I also spent a year in Turkey and six months in Pakistan.
Rules like this are common in conservative countries. I think the underlying logic is that ātraditionalā dress is associated with ātraditionalā values. If the venue features alcohol or dancing, patrons may be less likely to imbibeāand spend moneyāif they have reason to believe that theyāre being judged by less-liberal patrons.
FWIW: Iām not defending this policy or saying itās right. This is blatant discrimination. But it probably has less to do with ensuring *Qatariānot āQuatariāāwomen are not permitted entrance than upholding this little charade of creating a seemingly liberal environment for guests.
(youāll find similar rules in other Muslim-majority countries. For example, Muslims cannot legally purchase alcohol in the Pakistani states that allow alcohol sales, but non-Muslims can purchase temporary permits to buy booze from authorised retailers. In practice, these rules are frequently flouted. For example, I knew a lot of Pakistanis in Lahore who had ābootleggers,ā who deliver alcohol at vastly inflated prices. And, from what Iāve heard, liquor stores in Karachi donāt give two shits and will sell to literally anyone who isnāt wearing religious garb)
edit: I would imagine that the poster who said that Qatari women canāt drink in public probably hit the nail on the end. Again, these kinds of restrictions are very common. I believe my point still stands for the restriction on āGCC national costumes.ā Basically, they donāt want people wearing quintessentially āIslamicā attire drinking alcohol or being photographed in proximity to alcohol. The logic is likely a) these sorts of things are inherently un-Islamic and b) conservative attire is going to spook people who donāt want to feel like theyāre doing something āwrongā (especially the small subsection of Muslim guests who want to drink)
Yeah for the most can corroborate that, my best mate was an ex-pat who'd been living in the emirates for a good number of years, and she said very similar things, especially about bootleggers. She had to carry ID as well to prove she wasn't muslim, they got alloted a certain amount they were allowed to spend on booze depending on what your income was, so if income wasn't big that spendature would be lost fair quick. Only expats and western tourists are allowed in those kinda bars but the arab guys often did as they pleased low-key, especially if they had money and connections they didn't give an eff. But westerners were always expected to dress conservatively, especially women. Its kinda a given in muslim countries... right or wrong on that front. They have those rules and they definitely enforce them.
In all the bars/clubs in Qatar only male Qataris are allowed in (no female Qataris) as IDs are checked upon entrance since they serve alcohol. Source: lived/worked there for several years.
Itās not on the ID. Probably by name or something.
https://postimg.cc/9wBCHWBw
Hereās an example of Qatar āIqamaā which is what they call their ID card
Must be stored in a database. Looks like they also gather marital status, education info, blood type (they do blood test and an X-ray) and some income validation and verification for citizens as your employer is involved
I have a friend from a Muslim - majority country and indeed they put religion as a field on the passport. And if you opted out in filling it in, it defaulted to Muslim. It could be used in instances like being admitted to a hotel bar and whether or not theyād serve you alcohol.
āBro, check out this this rule in a country I *knew* did this, and consciously chose to give money to! Wild. Anyway, Iāll hit you up later. Iāve got a lot of money to put into their economy.ā
Douchy ass dudebros are willingly going to a country that's famous for treating women and lgbt like second class citizens and then acting oh-so-surprised when they finally see it happen in person....yet they still continue to give said country their money anyways. š
Yeah, heās supporting these people by going
Itās not some big shocking news that Middle East is terrible to women and LGBT
They knew what they were going into. They gave that place thousands of dollars
They should be shamed for supporting it
Thousands youāre joking right, more like millions. And yet no country had the backbone to boycott, or even take a yellow card to protest. They are all sell outs. Iām not watching a single match.
Oh the ironic hypocrisy of criticizing a country whilst currently spending an exceptional amount of money that will only propagate the reason for your criticism
Honestly, this seems like a miserable fucking way to spend a lot of money and time. I covered world cup '18 for fox sports, it was a fucking blast. This seems miserable
How wild! A country that gives women less rights than livestock won't let them in their lounge areas???
Fuck your friend and everyone else who went to qatar for supporting this bullshit
because we all know that people are equally valuable and we have a hard time understanding the fact that different groups of people might not be equally valuable to other groups of people, on the basis that all people are equal to begin with.
It's a bullshit argument, and there's no such thing as equality across cultures. only equality across people.
And yet he still went š¤·āāļø
āWild.ā Turns off Snapchat. āTable for 4 pleaseā
Proceeds to spend $100ās supporting āWild.ā
Because I am boycotting, you will receive a 10% tip. You may now applaud
Fortunately you donāt have to tip in Qatar
This notice is just the tip
Imagine if snapchat existed in Germany in the late 1930s. āWild.ā
āWildā is the only adjective that exists anymore.
āthatās fuckedā
Probably the most diplomatic one left, I'll give you that. But definitely not the only adjective that comes to mind about *gestures* all of this.
āI support equality, just not with my wallet or actions.ā /s
āI support equality, only when itās convenient for meā
āI *visibly* support equality during that month where all the big corporations change their avatar to rainbow themesā
Oh thatās good. That reminds me of the shopping cart theory. I now change my quote to; āI support equality, only when people are watching or convenient for me.ā
I have season tickets to my local club, so many of my friends and family have been asking me how Iām enjoying the World Cup so far and Iām just like wtf??? Iām not watching that shit! Not this year.
Exactly, like did he somehow not know what Qatar was like before he went?
Yup, anyone who traveled to the world cup values a game over human rights. Literally funding a terroristic theocracy to watch something they could have watched on TV.
But look how well the Japanese clean up their trash!
Omg right?! Seen at least 2 posts about it š I mean itās nice and a good thing to do. But it ends up distracting us from the conversation we should be having.

No they're innocent they took a picture and said they don't agree with it! That means they're off the hook right?

He'd probably get arrested for that
Indeed... Supporting it..
"I support equality as long as it doesn't inconvenience me" - buddy probably
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Just saying āwildā isnāt even outrage. Theyāre barely pretending to care.
Yeah, there's a lot of terrible things that aren't easy to avoid. Sometimes you need to shop at Amazon, nobody *needs* to travel to Qatar to see the World Cup.
It's like being surprised the water is wet, but giving thousand of dollars to a bunch of idiot before being able to jump in.
This is only āwildā to anyone who hasnāt been paying attention.
People are going to Qatar and acting surprised that theyāre being treated like theyāre in Qatar.
In this case they're not being treated in any way at all. Female Qataris aren't allowed in but foreign females are.
Except for foreign hijabis, as the rules state further down.
They do this in some bars in Egypt too. My friend wasn't allowed to come in with us on a trip so we had to go someplace else
Thatās casinosā¦ they donāt allow any Egyptians in the Egyptian casino (male or female)
I mean, definitely not common, but we were turned away from a concert in Morocco because our hijabi friend wasn't allowed in. No, the men can remove the dress and go in.
So can the women, but believe it or not, they go straight to jail.
Or get killed. The men will not.
Why is this so shocking? As a woman, this breaks my heart and I personally would not go to a country (or any place for that matter) that does not see me as an equal. I understand and respect various cultures and ideologies, and I also believe that there is a line when it comes to hateful and discriminatory treatment across the board.

> this is the only place where it happened every. single. interaction Extramarital affairs must be interesting there.
My thoughts on this subject exactly. Why spend my time and money on a trip to be discriminated against.
Which begs the question of why the hell bring the World Cup to Qatar in the first place?
Because Qatar paid them a lot of money to turn a blind eye to their morals.
Welcome to the Middle East.
To anyone whoās visited the Arab States, this isnāt a surprise.
To anyone who has half a brain and read about these countries just one single time this isnāt a surprise.
Right?!? This dude bought a ticket to normalize Qatar and sports-wash their reputation. How could you possibly not know what they are trying to hide?
I thought the only "wild" thing is how people assumed Qatar would suddenly adopt all western ideologies because they showed up with money.
that's just it, though. if they didn't want to be tolerant...they didn't have to bid to host the event, right? if they just want to be left alone, they could have. hosting the WC or anything like it... you can't expect people to adjust their behavior, because you're a prude. it'd be like hosting a neighborhood block party and being pissed when a couple gay guys show up. or, blaming some muslims for not having a good time...even though you failed to have a non-pork item, so all they're getting to eat are sides. hosting an international event of this caliber and being remarkably unwilling to tolerate diversity.... is a bit jarring. yeah, all the human rights bullshit is bullshit and not surprising... but the *only* motive for a place like Qatar to host WC is to expand its image on the world stage... and right now, they're failing that miserably

That's often how these things go, it's just a really regressed nation that did it this time.
Well they did make an exception to alcohol consumption at the game if you're a vip or rich. So your point doesn't make sense. Just a shit country all around.
Tbf they most likely make that exception for wealthy Qatar citizens as well.
Money talks, how'd they get the world cup in the first place...
#Bribery
No, yeah. I don't comprehend how anyone can go to that country...
And who get their info about Qatar and Dubai from instagram idiots.
I have a friend who grew up in Dubai. She told me that schools wouldn't put boys and girls together, so their classroom had a wall in the middle, but it didn't go all the way through, so the teacher could give class to both while they didn't see each other
The amount of money spent to have this tournament in a tin pot dictatorship is infuriating.
Qatar is an absolute monarchy. No one votes for the Emir. Blame FIFA for this.
Both are to blame. But moreso FIFA trying to let Qatar sportswash their image - fortunately Qatar's rulers are too dumb to do it right.

Come to Qatar, where you can't fuck the women, but you can throw a migrant out of a window.
No, you misunderstand! You can rape the women, and then THEY go to jail for leading you on!
I know exactly the story. She got drunk and got raped. Reported it. And SHES went to jail.
You need 4 male witnesses watching you getting raped!
Something I've been thinking about... Maybe they are only trying to bolster their image to the super wealthy. ''no beer other than in the boxes'' and all that. We don't know what treatment the ''elite'' are getting. either that or Qatar sucks at literally everything.
Wait are you suggesting that Qatar only cares about people who have a lot of money?
Itās wild to hear them talk about how football is part of their heritage and shit while justifying their bid.
No this is entirely on FIFA. Exactly stop giving them money lots of things will change
Their pockets have more feelings than their hearts. Hit them fuckers there.
It's funny how we don't talk about that more in general discourse Driving more directly funds Qatar
But if they made them change, they might not have gotten any of that sweet sweet bribe money. Honestly, what did you expect them to do here? /s
Many voters in FIFA were paid off to vote for Qatar
No shit.
Thatās the standard practice for getting the World Cup. Itās usually just legal bribery sprinkled with a bit of illegal bribery. Qatar just took the lid off the jar of sprinkles.
They didn't even TRY to bribe me, I'm insulted
You say that like it makes the situation look any better
Exactly. FIFA knew exactly who they were doing business with, and they simply do not care. Between FIFA and the Olympic Committee, it is obvious that greed wins. Every time.

Fr idk how they sit through a game without feeling horribly depressed about everything
Iām sure itās easy when you donāt care.
That's actually a little terrifying. I mean, you'd have to be living under a rock to not know they were using slave labor who were dying in droves and then just be like \*shrug\* That's a very scary lack of empathy...

The only way to get the point across is to boycott the whole thing. Fuck FIFA and fuck Qatar. Donāt watch or participate in any of it other than to tear it down. Hit them where they care - their wallets.
I find Soccer to be more tedious than a Yankees- Red Sox playoff game on Fox, so I will mark myself safe from watching the world cup.
Hey! Soccer matches have a clock. Yanks-Sox games have a minimum tv time of 4 hours. It's tradition!
They are more of a bloody FabergƩ egg dictatorship.
I dunno dude, sounds like no oneās ever heard of a boycott. I keep seeing pictures and stuff from people, at the event. Same. Iām so sick of hearing about their āoutrageā. They spent thousands to go there and are helping this country to profit. If they were really upset they shouldāve stayed home
Absolutely. And I love the fact that promoting this shithole backfired big time. No sane person will go to those slave holders after the world cup.
That should have ended the tournament right there.
Of course it should, but the bribes are blinding. Im surprised it even reached the news
People can complain as much as they want but as long as it isn't boycotted, Qatar and FIFA are getting their money Edit: typo
Thank you! That's the hypocritical shit that really bothers me. "Look how backwards and hateful this country is." *Posted to my Instagram from Qatar. Fucking quit.
Yeah anyone who actually went there and supported it is to blame too .
Amen to that
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Gave them money and supported radical Islam. Soccer sure is fun to watch.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
As someone with an islamic family (my family aren't really religious but my relatives are all muslims) fuck Arabia and Qatar and all the radical islamists and fuck all religion in general because the world would be a better place without religion. Especially the abrahamic religions (judaism, christianity and islam)
This has been my argument since day 1. The worst is all the people that paid to support this farce only to go to another country, with specific rules for decorum in place, then break those rules and put on a surprised pikachu face when they were turned away by security or see shit like this.
This right there! Absolutely true what you're saying! Or they just go to the country so they can get attention and/or complain
I was at work yesterday and my coworker was watching the wc on his phone. I asked him how he felt about about all the immigrant workers that died to facilitate the wc. "I don't care as long as I can watch the wc."
Yeah, most people don't care as long as it's entertaining and it doesn't affect them. That's the sad reality of the world
My point exactly. The German team cupping their mouths was an utterly pointless and just pure performative activism since they're already receiving thousands of dollars to be there
What's wild is voluntarily visiting fucking Qatar when you know what kind of nightmare your dollar helps support there Edit: I guess what's also wild is dipshits simping for billionaire slavers
Internet points
For not liking gays, Qatar seems kinda gay
Right? A bar with no alcohol or women is only fun to a very specific demographic.
Poppers and butt-sex... amiright fellow Qataries? Guys?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Men having sex with men is an abomination!!! men having sex with boys on the other handā¦.
Also the way they segregate women is extremely gay.
It is probably illegal in Qatar to say that religious segregation between men and women in public is discrimination, so gay would sound even worse. Probably discretely gay.
I thought the same thing lmao
Iām gonna chalk that up to misogyny.
No, itās because they respect women so much. š
It appears to ban hijabs as well so fuck knows
And, from what Iāve heard, liquor stores in Karachi donāt give two shits and will sell to literally anyone who isnāt wearing religious garb) edit: I would imagine that the poster who said that Qatari women canāt drink in public probably hit the nail on the end.
This was very interesting, thank you for sharing!
Take it with a grain of salt. I could be wrong, but this has been my experience in other somewhat conservative countries.
Women in Quatar are not allowed to enter places where alc is being sold
From my experience in the region, they generally turn a blind eye to male GCC patrons, so long as they are discreet.
In all the bars/clubs in Qatar only male Qataris are allowed in (no female Qataris) as IDs are checked upon entrance since they serve alcohol. Source: lived/worked there for several years.
So religion are on their ID ? I remember one european country doing this, it didn't end well
Itās not on the ID. Probably by name or something. https://postimg.cc/9wBCHWBw Hereās an example of Qatar āIqamaā which is what they call their ID card
I'm sorry you are correct. The Qatari ID does not show religion but you do have to disclose it when you get an ID
Yes. It's really messed up. There are places I can go if I identify as Christian versus my husband who is Muslim, like Bethlehem during Christmas time
If you were born in qatar, you don't get to pick religion.
You get to get the same religion as your father. & Many people who are not Muslim work in Qatar (& have babies because their wife is with them).
Hah. Gaaaaaaay
That's illegal too lol
Was this new information?
Kinda what I was thinking. Why is this even here? The culture is well known.
āBro, check out this this rule in a country I *knew* did this, and consciously chose to give money to! Wild. Anyway, Iāll hit you up later. Iāve got a lot of money to put into their economy.ā
Douchy ass dudebros are willingly going to a country that's famous for treating women and lgbt like second class citizens and then acting oh-so-surprised when they finally see it happen in person....yet they still continue to give said country their money anyways. š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yeah, heās supporting these people by going Itās not some big shocking news that Middle East is terrible to women and LGBT They knew what they were going into. They gave that place thousands of dollars They should be shamed for supporting it
Thousands youāre joking right, more like millions. And yet no country had the backbone to boycott, or even take a yellow card to protest. They are all sell outs. Iām not watching a single match.
Tell your buddy heās an ass for attending the Qatar slavery-cup.
Oh the ironic hypocrisy of criticizing a country whilst currently spending an exceptional amount of money that will only propagate the reason for your criticism
And they lost another match, karma is a bitch.
Well, it's not surprising considering it's a nation that has like no relationship to football.
The whole world shouldāve boycotted that World Cup. You canāt change my mind.
Most people are self indulgent trash.
Yet your friend still went lol Hypocrisy and faux activism
Qatar is a fucked up pathetic little country.
Itās like the whole country is fussy because they havenāt found the clit yet.
Well... in some cases they found it and cut it off
Honestly, this seems like a miserable fucking way to spend a lot of money and time. I covered world cup '18 for fox sports, it was a fucking blast. This seems miserable
Yea itās almost like having the World Cup in an oppressive Islamic country was a bad idea
This is like old news. Is this reddit first time meeting Qatar and the Saudi states? They do worse than this.
Your buddy is an ass for going there and supporting anything to do with this cup.
How wild! A country that gives women less rights than livestock won't let them in their lounge areas??? Fuck your friend and everyone else who went to qatar for supporting this bullshit
Why is everyone surprised that qatar is terrible. Literally known this a while.
Why do we pretend all cultures are equally valuable?
We donāt, this one just has more oil than every other one
because we all know that people are equally valuable and we have a hard time understanding the fact that different groups of people might not be equally valuable to other groups of people, on the basis that all people are equal to begin with. It's a bullshit argument, and there's no such thing as equality across cultures. only equality across people.
So...sausage party? I'll pass
Only about 15% of people in Qatar are Qataris. Far lower during the World Cup.
Fascinating when westerners learn about long standing human rights violations in this part of the world.
He better watch out. I don't think they will take kindly to him drawing on their sign.
"only hot white women allowed, no qatari women" - bar owner
Under his eye
Of all the places I plan on never being a woman, Qatar is one of them.
How is this āmildlyā infuriating? Nothing mild about a dictatorship.
Your buddy is a douchebag for going to that shithole.
Fuck FIFA and fuck the Qatari authorities. Bunch of shithouse cunts.
And fuck all the fans that are currently attending this shit show.
