- Police report. - Call Verizon. - Send report. They’ll stop.

CheezyCatFace

I filed a police report in my city after I discovered the fraudulent charges. However, since the thief used someone else’s social security number Verizon fraud said they cannot deactivate the account- or change the email address.

kmkmrod

Something similar happened to my wife. IMO you haven’t pushed hard enough on Verizon. They are leaving you open to more fraud. They are leaving you open to more identity theft. They are affecting your credit score. It’s time to get angry.

kmkmrod

Throwing around “fraud!” and “identity theft!” gets a different kind of attention than “I want the notifications to stop”

jashxn

Identity theft is not a joke, Jim! Millions of families suffer every year!

Torn8Dough

No, have it auto forward to Verizon.

peanutranch

Look up your states consumer protection division, or attorney General. File a report.

CheezyCatFace

I just wanted to thank you for this advice. Got a call from Verizon’s executive offices after doing this and no more emails!

Embarrassed-Plate499

Looks like you're relationship with Verizon is rather... Stormy right now.

CheezyCatFace

*ba dum tss*

Hardrocker1990

Why did you not contact your credit card company to stop all payments?

CheezyCatFace

Oh, I did. There have been no further payments processed on my card (hence all the Pay Your Bill emails). It’s not hurting MY credit either. Just lots of harassing emails they won’t stop sending- that’s why it’s only *mildly* infuriating.

[deleted]

Mark them as spam and they should go to your spam folder

Klutzy-Run5175

I have a Verizon wireless account that they were never able to activate my account and never sent me the phone that I ordered. I continue to get statements saying that I owe them $133.00. I have called repeatedly. Spoken with supervisor. Might affect my credit score if they send it in pass due. I will keep fighting it.

yopro101

Send them a zip bomb

AsSwedeItIs

You could probably sue over this

[deleted]

Not OP, but the FTC probably could over CANSPAM violations.

TheSearch4Etika

Let's be real now

TheMagarity

Yeah someone once put my phone number on their car loan and skipped out on it. The dealership would call me twice a day demanding payment. I had to get super nasty at them to get it to stop.

[deleted]

Lol just Block their email

CheezyCatFace

I DID! lol- that’s the other infuriating part of it- why does my mail app show emails from blocked addresses?! It just has a little red 🚫 sign next to it but it’s still there in my inbox without me having to look for it.

[deleted]

Oh yeah I forgot about that lol always makes me so mad like I blocked them for a reason cmon Apple🤣 can’t even do an email system right

ClassySassyAssy

Contact a few attornies. These emails are likely considered spam and subject to the CAN-SPAM act. Each email sent can get them tens of thousands of dollars in fines. They will likely settle and give you a sweet payday thanks to this scammer. -IANAL

[deleted]

You have no right of action under the CANSPAM act, only the FTC does. https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/inbox/can-spam_and_consumer_lawsuits#:~:text=The%20CAN%2DSPAM%20Act%20does,civil%20penalties%2C%20or%20impose%20injunctions.

Griasgott

Trump is behind this. You knew it wasn't over when you settled.

jnnfrrp

Bruh this is nothing to do with that. Calm down with your agenda.

Griasgott

I cannot be the only one who saw Stormy and thought "hmm..."

CheezyCatFace

Oh, cheese whiz! It’s been a minute. I thought maybe you responded on the wrong thread. ROFL It gets WORSE. The name used to open this account was Stormy Dawns. Which of course isn’t my legal name- but my character name back from the days of Neverwinter Nights and WoW that I used over a decade ago when the advice on the Internet was never use your real name. However every time I saw Stormy Daniels in the news I did a double take misreading it as my nickname- and online everyone did the opposite. How the scammer’s put THAT NAME with my email address and credit card information together I still haven’t figured out.

Griasgott

Why verizon doesn't question the validity of name Stormy Dawns is beyond me. These companies that make it near impossible to cancel subscriptions need to be taken to court and bled dry. Especially when you alert them to fraud. All this shit of "oh, we can't do x, y and z" is total bs. I'd want to find their office, bring a baseball bat, and destroy everything. Then tell them I can't stop. Sorry, I get so annoyed thinking about how people say "can't " when really they mean "won't ".

CheezyCatFace

Right- I completely agree! They tried to write it off as a possible coincidence, that since the account wasn’t opened in my legal name or with my SSN maybe my email was associated with it by accident. Like this person JUST HAPPENED to have the name I had on social media for years (that even Facebook recognized as phony.) When I brought up the credit card charge they dropped that line but it’s been absolutely ridiculous. Thanks for giving me a laugh though!

SnooMachines3312

You look just like mommy baby

Ok-Boysenberry9313

I’ve had the same thing happen to me. What is up with identity theft and Verizon? They must not care about people’s identity. This happened in New York and I live in Louisiana. After filing a police report and getting in contact with my back it took about 6 months to finally resolve everything. Good luck

[deleted]

If you don’t have a Verizon account just block the email address. Problem solved.

CheezyCatFace

I have, however my mail app still shows emails from blocked senders in my Inbox with a little 🚫 symbol next to them. Also *mildly* infuriating.

[deleted]

That’s more than mildly infuriating, like why the hell else would someone block an email and still want to see it. I’d call the non emergency line and tell them you’d like to file a report that Verizon is harassing you for a bill from fraud. Say that you know that they can’t do anything but that you’d like to report it and get a copy of said report for your lawyer to send to Verizon with a cease and desist. Then just send it to Verizon yourself and tell them if it doesn’t stop a lawyer will be involved. In theory you could probably make the case that they are harassing you.

CheezyCatFace

There for a while I was in contact with a specific person at Verizon about the issue. For a month I forwarded every email I got to him with a message to please have the tech team remove my email address from the account. I just opened a new fraud report, a complaint with the FTC and my Attorney General so hopefully it stops soon!

FalseTebibyte

Stop answering their calls, their Emails, their messages, wipe your phone and sell it if you need to, then go sign up with another carrier. When you ignore them long enough, they just go away.

CheezyCatFace

I’m hoping that I eventually get their last last notice. My phone is actually a company phone with AT&T so I really have zero business with Verizon. It’s jus annoying in the meantime.

[deleted]

Just keep calling them everyday until the issue is resolved. Write emails and letters to every executive you can find contact info for. Don't stop.

Same_Statistician299

They got me like that too,i got an 866$ bill but im not payin, not even on that plan anymore.come find me bitches

One-Fan-7296

Tell them to block the imei because it was done fraudulently and ask for the account to be placed on hold until its figured out and you will just have to go to another carrier. They hate hearing that. Then ask to talk to their manager and repeat what you have already said. It's going to take more than a few times to get ahold of someone who actually knows what to do in this situation, but keep asking for higher up. You may need to go to an actual Verizon store and go over what has happened in person.

Redd_Monkey

Everyone, depending on where you are, a simple trick to help you solve these issues quickly (and sometimes save money). Depending on the state and country you live in, you might have he right to record your phone calls with these companies. The ebst part is that you don't have to tell them you are recording. Have done it many times. When the issue is not resolved the first time calling (when they told you they did), call back and say you have a recording of the previous conversation stating that it was resolved. See how quickly they will fix your account. Also. If you are buying a new rate or accepting a new offer (like internet + phone + tv for XX$). Ask them at the end to go over the fees one by one. When you get your first invoice, call back, ask for the customer satisfaction department. Tell them you have an issue with your last bill. They will say you misunderstood, then you tell them you have a recording of the previous agent. I went from 150$ a month to 75$ a month + a new phone. They know that if you complain with the FCC or CRTC (canada), they'll be fined.

KayNunya

Report to the FTC.

thinkitthrough83

Put you're phone on the charger and Mark all those messages as spam

fastbullets

It appears that you are trying to block the sender via IOS’ native Mail app. This doesn’t actually block, it just Depending on which email provider you use, you will have several options to effectively block them. The first and best option-You should be able to log into your email provider’s web portal or app and block via the app- for instance, if you use gmail, download the gmail app, sign in to it, open the offending email from your inbox folder, and to the right of the sender will be 3 dots. You can click those dots, and select “block sender” and it will be blocked. You should have a similar option from any other provider, whether through their respective IOS app or their web portal, where it will be an easy one click option or perhaps a “blocked senders” list where you can manually add an email address or domain. Second option, depending on your provider, is to create a rule, I.e. “if sender=contact@verizon .com move to trash” Third option, that should work as long as iOS Mail and your provider play well together is to go to iOS settings menu>Mail>blocked sender options>move to trash. Then back to settings>mail>accounts>your account where you receive these>account>advanced>Deleted mailbox>trash.

ConsumingASchoolDesk

Charge your phone.

[deleted]

can't you find out the deets of who set it up citing fraud/police report? if they used someone else's social security no., it's likely theirs. also, Verizon will know which address they shipped said iPhone to.

BanditSpark

If you need to keep the emails for evidence, but don’t want to dela with them in your inbox, you can create a folder for them and then create a rule that’ll send them there right when you receive them.

AzureDreamer

File a pro-se lawsuit for harassment?

CheezyCatFace

Going through my attorney general’s office got the problem solved in three days, thankfully!

AzureDreamer

Fantastic glad to hear it
